I ate here twice with friends while in town on business. The first night I was overcharged for a side order of food that I ordered, the waitress delivered to one of my friends with his meal, he asked if it was his, and was told yes, so he took several bites out of it before I discovered my side wasn't arriving with my food, and asked for it, and the waitress told us it was mine. She then said that the food was right there, and I could eat it if I wanted to...? I had to get the manager to take the charge off the bill. Seriously...? The 2nd night, I only ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo. It was merely ok... a bit bland if you must know. There are some great BBQ places in town... I won't go back here. read more

It's fried. This place has fried crab claws (smaller blue-colored claws, don't think snow or king crab), fried okra, fried pickles, fried fish, fried oysters... fried, fried, fried, fried, fried. Even the napkins and forks are fried. As a seafood place it is a tad better then Long John Silvers' which isn't saying a lot. The saving grace is that you can ask for, and get, your seafood broiled. This is a more flavorful way to go than drowning it in batter and slam dunking it in grease. Frying has it's place but there is such thing as too much. The hands down winner on the menu is the the Bar-B-Q'd pulled pork. Get it "chopped" and you wont regret it. read more

Amazing sweet tea and the waitress was wonderful. The food was not good at all. we have lunch Mullet and Ribs with mac & cheese, french fries. All seems to be cooked the day before and were lukewarm as best. the waitress returned the Mullet for catfish. The catfish was better but we will not be returning to this restaurant anytime in the future. I suggest you find another restaurant before you go to this one. read more

Oh....my.....gosh, your ribs are the best I've ever had. I was in town on business and stop in for dinner on a coworkers suggestion. I was very very pleased. My 32oz plastic cup stayed full and the staff was very nice. Grew up coming here, before it was at this location!!! One of my favorite stops when I come home... Since moving, they have added BBQ!!! All I know about is the seafood... Fried deliciousness!!! They used to serve the sweet pickles, onions, and crackers as a free starter, but now you have to ask for it... It's a local thing, I think!!! But I love it... The food is good. The variety of choices are superb. The service is good. But there is one continuing annoyance with this place that we cannot get resolved. We have spoken with our wait persons and we have spoken with the shift managers to no effect. Our problem is with the food runners. During the cold and flu season you don't want people peppering your food with their spittle. Yet, every time they bring our food they engage in a question and answer session with us with our food only inches from their mouth. I will applaud this place for hiring high schoolers. But this place is a prime example of why food handlers should be required to undergo a mandatory class on the do's and don'ts of food delivery. They season the food very well here. I don't need the extra flavoring of their employees' spit in my food. Food runners who do this and carry food next to their hair are huge pet peeves of ours. read more

We've always loved coming here when we visit Albany, but after our last visit we will not be back. Shortly after our food was brought to us, the server brought the check. We remarked that maybe it was a sign that she wasn't going to give us good service. We were right. She never offered us refills on tea, and came to our table once and asked if we were "okay". She never came back so we finally took the check up front to pay, and she appeared saying she could have taken it for us. I told her it would have been nice to have had drink refills, to which she replied, "you could have asked when I asked if you were okay ". I had no answer so I just paid and left. read more

Stopped for lunch on a Sunday. Delicious food, large portions, super friendly service. Our group had the brisket platters and a shrimp poor boy. Everything was home cooked and delicious. They have two BBQ sauces on the table and Crystal hot sauce. Our waitress offered to bring a hot BBQ sauce from the kitchen which was also good. The place is quite large. My wife and I stopped by for an early dinner, no wait and we were seated right away. This is not our first time here and we knew what we wanted to order. Unfortunately, it did take the waitress a little longer than usual before she came by to take our order. We noticed that there were a couple more draft beer options, or maybe we just didn't notice...either way we ordered some Shock Top's. One of the reasons we come here is for the fried green tomatoes and the St Louis style ribs. With the tomatoes, it's a hit and miss, but mostly hit and they come out quick. They use a tasty batter when they fry them up so give them a try. The ribs are also good with a couple of sauces on the side to lather them up. I like the vinegar based sauce as it has that kick to it. We haven't tried the other food options there, especially the fried fish, but maybe if we can break away from the ribs, it'll be an option. read more

To put this simply Black Beards has been around too long... The food is generally good but they have decided enormous portion sizes justify charging ridiculous prices. Seriously $20 for a catfish plate, that's laughable in small town Albany. There was a time when Black Beards was a good deal for good food but we won't be back. Literally every time we come there is a new menu which ALWAYS means the prices have risen again, I can get fried seafood in a lot of places for much less; get back to your roots Black Beards and treat this community like you care not just like you want every last cent they have. $90 is not an "average" for 4 people to eat in Albany Georgia read more

They also have a seafood gumbo, they let me sample it ... yummy it was hard to pick of the three soups. Since I sampled two and could not sample the oyster.. I got the oyster stew! The Catfish ---ummmmy! The Fried Green tomatoes cut on the thicker side - not like paper thin cuts, fried to perfection! Portion sizes AMAZING!! Wasn't super hungry, so I just got a basket of fried pickles and a bowl of oyster stew. Pickles were inedibly salty (and I don't have a problem with salty stuff). Oyster stew looked great, but was badly under seasoned (maybe they were trying to balance out the pickles?). Once it was seasoned, it was fine, but nothing special. Sweet tea was good. It looked like it was rotten. Our sides were cheese grits and okra plus it comes with a complimentary side of gumbo. They gave us 2 cheese grits, which were runny. We got no okra. The hush puppies were soggie. My girlfriend ate the gumbo and said she swallowed something hard. We also ordered the boiled chemo with green beans and creamed corn. Again, the hush puppies were soggie. They did not give her creamed corn, they gave her cheese grits. We ended up with 3 sides of cheese grits. The green beans were gritty and we'll undercooked.
