Recently was in Albany for a family event and we decided to get some chicken. I don't know why but its really hard finding businesses that sell whole fried chicken wings. This place does it all justice. I don't know what of grease, breading they use but their chicken always comes out golden. Not burnt or dark but golden. They add lemon pepper powder I believe on top of the chicken as well. Delicious. Once you get that food in the car its hard not to start eating it right away because it smells so dang gone good. The first time couple of times I went to Hip Hop I wasn't a huge fan. It was good but it wasn't to the point that I had to come back. But when I started dating this guy, all he talked about was Hip Hop Fish & Chicken. I thought he was crazy until I tried it again. From that point on I was addicted! I love the seasoning and flavor of their fried food! Every time I go to Hip Hop I have the wing and shrimp combo basket that comes with fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw is hitting too, by the way. But I have had their tilapia before and it was crispy on the edges and flaky in the middle which is how most people like it so you'll enjoy it. The only thing is, if you go expect a wait. When you go through the drive thru there is a sign that's reads this is not a fast food establishment. They literally cook your food when you order it so everything is fresh. Albany has some neat food places and it's a plus that they stay open late. If you get a chance I would definitely suggest giving this place a try. read more

Ordered from here last night. Here is a recount of my experience. Pros: The food here was tasty, a bit too much of whatever seasoning they sprinkle on everything making it a tad too salty. Cons: I was grossly overcharged. I purchased 3 meals averaging $10 each, and 3 sides at $2.99 each. My total was $60.42. I was talking to other passengers in my car when I paid and it didn't occur to me to look at my receipt until I got home and glanced at it while eating. Partially my fault for not paying attention, but why was I overcharged to begin with when the lady at the window confirmed my order? Where's the integrity? Anyway, I have been trying to contact a manager or someone who can assist me with making it right since last night when I discovered the error. Today a man finally answered the phone and told me there was no manager on duty (possible but highly unlikely) and that he couldn't help me because he was too busy. I asked when a manager would be available and was told he didn't know and that someone would call me back. Note: he never asked for my number for the call back. I have a feeling a resolution wail not come easy if at all. I'll update soon. read more

This place was on point. I wanted fried fish. I got it. Freshly cooked, crisp, flaky, outstanding. They had run out of coleslaw, which was a bummer, but I'm not taking off a star. Only thing consistent here is the grease. An order of fried chicken from hip hop will "perfume" your car for several days.

Service at Hip Hop on North Slappey is very bias. Went thru drive thru to placed an order. Before I could drive around to the window the one of Albany so called finest policeman swirled around to the window and proceed to place his order as though there wasn't a line. Everyone else is using the intercom system so he should have not been allowed to skip the line. Then they wonder why no one has ay respect for them. Hip Hop Fish & Chicken have some fairly good food. I used to eat at the one on the East Side until it converted to a Fish Fillet. Obviously, this place serves chicken and fish combinations. I particularly love the seasoning that they use for the catfish. The place has $4.99 lunch specials on Monday through Friday. The building itself is a little rundown but they have started minor renovations. Cashiers are OK if a bit unprofessional at times. But I will continue to eat here. It hole-in-the-wallish but us black folks don't care as long as we have some excellent grub to satisfy our appetities. read more

Sigh.... So we drive up to the window and the cashier told us our total and confirmed our order .we told her that we didn't order that and she became snappy and closed the window in our faces . Then can back seconds later and gave us the correct total -with an attitude... I understand that she probably has had a hard day but there isn't a reasonable excuse to give poor customer service. I've worked In customer service for over 10 years and have never treated a customer this way. The customer service there is completely terrible. I honestly have never experience anything like the terrible customer service I have received at this particular restaurant. Not to mention the food wasn't really all that great. My fish was overcooked and the fries were soggy. To top it all off they drowned it in seasoning to try and cover up the fact that the fish was overcooked and the fries were soggy. I'd say this restaurant is a no go. Place looks a little rough from the outside and honestly the inside too but stick around and give it a try anyways! The catfish, shrimp, and fries had some good season it and everything was cooked just right. Even the sweet tea was made how it's suppose to down here in Georgia.
