We decided to build our own charcuterie platter and was the perfect amount for the 3 of us. We all tried non-alcoholic drinks and were also very happy with our choices. Even though my friends & I didn't have any alcoholic beverages, we all commented on the vast options. Parking is plentiful in front & back of the hotel & you can access from either side to reach the cafe. The bathroom is on until hotel side and probably one of the nicest public bathrooms. The cafe is well laid out with varying sizes of tables. We quite enjoyed our Christmas visit & all agreed we'll be back again. Hopefully earlier in the day or for the full supper menu. I asked the hotel desk person for an Italian restaurant. She told me that there was not one and had suggested a place that does sell pasta but it is not an Italian restaurant. We went to the restaurant on a Monday night at about 7 p.m. and it was closed! Several of the businesses in the area were closed which was kind of shocking for so early in the evening. However, thanks to Yelp, I was able to find this German restaurant. The exterior of the building is very fitting it looks like something straight out of Bavaria. You walk into the doorway and you're in this little cubicle with a curtain. couldn't understand why that was the case until I was sitting in the restaurant. When you're sitting at the first table by the door and the sun is setting, it hits you right in the face. So the management has put up this curtain to walk through that cuts down the glare from the sun! We did not have a reservation and I strongly suggest that you come to this town you get one in advance! The waitress was absolutely wonderful I assumed she was also the manager because she was on top of everything and everyone! She found a seat and my wife overheard her telling people that she just hates to turn people away and she gave us the last seat in the house. The majority of the people in the place were elderly but then a group of ladies came in who had a mixed age range. The ambience was magnificent! The walls were decorated with plates and memorabilia from around Germany and there were flags from around the world. I've been in a few German restaurants in my time and this one even though it was small and had lots of memorabilia, it had an extreme cozy feeling. As one would hope, it had an assortment of schnitzel on the menu. I had to the traditional wienerschnitzel with spaetzle. There were two full size pieces, the side accompaniment, a salad and I could not finish it! I am no small eater by any means! My wife had the chicken cordon bleu schnitzel and it was equally as tasty. She had the home fried potatoes and love them! I think one of the more pleasant surprises was that despite this being a small town, clearly a very popular restaurant, and large portions of food, my dinner was only $17! So if you're ever in the town of Port alberni Canada you have got to make it a point to go see the folks in this wonderful restaurant! The local people heard us talking and people were chit-chatting us up without trying to intrude on our dinner. this was the best meal I've had since we've left home and honestly I think it is one of the best meals I've had in months at a restaurant. The schnitzle although good was half the size it used to be and the price had gone up almost double from a couple of years ago. The manager continues to swear at me and threaten me I'm front of every other patron and my child, I tell him he is out of line and this isn't acceptable for a business owner or any person at all. He continues to swear at me and threaten me. I tell him to stop talking as I'm paying my bill and he leans over the counter and tries to punch me in the face. I am flabbergasted. We came in from tofino to do Christmas shopping and have a lovely dinner. Instead we find a staple in our food and ask them about it, get verbally assaulted, threatened with violence and even swung at by a mad man who supposedly manages the place. For dessert the special of the night was a flourless chocolate torte served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. That was delicious, not overly sweet and had a nice chocolate flavour and texture was nice and smooth. The service was impeccable, water was always filled and the manager or another server always asked if every thing was alright and or if we were happy. But also you can see with how busy it was they would go off to tend other tables. That being said the fact they take the time to ask and make sure you are taken care of is awesome.
