Our second visit to Chameleons, and we couldn't be more glad that we returned. Our dinner experience was tremendous again, and this place will be on our must do when in Parksville. Our dinner mates were unfortunately very much under the weather so we were dining just the two of us. The degree to which they take care of you is so spot on, the decor is subtle again with local artist works adorning the walls. There is no rush at all which we appreciate. The food was spot on again, my ribs fall off the bone, and the mashed potatoes so good. K's Chef's Special was also so good. Dessert again was the sticky date pudding with ice cream. Sublime? We went to Chameleons the other night for my birthday dinner and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The service is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is warm and cozy. I started with the flavorful lemon merengue martini. Yum! The wine selection was pleasing, and we able to order both a chardonnay and a cabernet. My husband had the potato leek soup and I enjoyed the stuffed mushroom caps as our appetizers. They were both delicious! For dinner, he had the special of the day - stuffed chicken with Mashed potatoes and vegetables. The chicken was perfection and the mashed potatoes were incredible. I had the seafood crepe with garlic bread and vegetables. I'm so glad I tried this! It was rich and savory, without feeling too heavy. To finish things off, we shared the sticky date cake - a dessert that is a must-try. It's clear that they take great pride in their food, beverages and service. An absolutely fabulous meal. This spot is an absolute must try for everyone. The service was great, but it's the food you NEED to go for. As of May 25, 2021 the province has lifted restrictions, and the restaurant is available for dine in meals. (Which is how I ate) The food was hot, the presentation was phenomenal, and the taste was divine. I cant highly recommend this place enough. Please stop by for a delicious meal sometime! read more

The other people who have eaten here must have entered the food under the wrong restaurant. There's a reason this place is empty every night. It's not that it's a bad location, the food is terrible and one of the worst meals I've eaten in my life. I threw it up in the parking lot. I had the Swordfish which was the "fish of the day" with butter herb, carrots, potatoes, and squash. The swordfish arrived with a slab of cold butter on it. The swordfish wasn't warm enough to melt the butter, which doesn't make sense as the fish itself was overcooked except for the almost frozen part in the middle. The fish itself was drenched in butter (but the slab on top hadn't melted yet) and basically inedible. The potatoes were like eating wet sand, the carrots were drenched in oil (judging by the sludge underneath them), but the squash was nice. Since i can't give less than one star, you get one star for squash. Go to McDonald's, avoid at all costs. read more

Chameleons is deceptively good. There's nothing to the actually room itself, but you'll get some of the best service and tastiest food you've had in awhile. We were looked after by Jim (I think it was). Not only did he make great recommendations on the food (BBQ Beef on a Bun, and a Chicken BLT Sandwich), but he also provided some great sightseeing directions for us as well. Located in an unsuspecting condo building on the ground floor, Chameleons was a bit hard to find but worth it. The owner greeted us and our server was also lovely. We ordered two appys and two mains. Red curry prawns and Salmon stuffed mushroom caps were both delicious. My wife ordered the Seafood Crepe for her dinner 4/5. I ordered Chicken Cordon Bleu 5/5. Side vegetables were perfect and an excellent compliment to the mains. Proportions were very generous for the mains. Prices very reasonable. We'll be back! read more

This restaurant is a little hard to find if you're just driving by on the highway as it's tucked inside a small shopping strip, but inside it's very cozy and the food is excellent. They make everything in-house and the hostess said they source 70% of their food from Vancouver Island. Locavores take note! I was amazed to hear that included the bison in the Bison Stroganoff (which was excellent and very different). The mushroom risotto was very flavorful and a little peppery. This review won't speak to the food here as we didn't eat here. We did look in as we were trying to find somewhere to eat as a family. It looked great, but did not have a children's menu. The hostess was extremely helpful and told us where she likes to go with her kids and steered us to a much more kid-friendly establishment. She was extremely helpful and polite. This was by far the best meal we had on our vacation. The waitresses were attentive and friendly. We ordered soup to start and had the chicken Neptune and the Cordon Bleu. The serving sizes were very generous. My daughter can be fussy about cooked vegetables but these ones were done just right. Hot with a little crunch to them; not soft and mushy. The service was absolutely awful. Our server complained about us ordering the "Fancy" drinks because she didn't have time to make them (a cocktail and a Bloody Caesar). Once she dropped them off, she stated that her other table probably needed her attention because of how time consuming our drinks were. On top of this, the food was quite mediocre and the portions were small. It seemed like any request we had (food modifications, etc) was met with a complaint or a snarky comment. Everything we had from appetizer to dessert was great! Stuffed mushroom cap and the bisque were lovely. The pork back ribs and lamb shank melt in your mouth and had great flavor. On BC Day 2018, we tried several restaurants, but they were all closed. We ended up choosing Chameleons mostly on their being open and our being nearby. Our kids, 8 and 9, didn't want to go at all. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated promptly. Service was excellent. My apple-basted ribs were outstanding. My wife's salad was very good. There is no kids menu, but they were happy to whip up a pasta dish, which even our grumpy kids said was their best meal of the trip. A decadent chocolate dessert topped things off. The price was very reasonable. Parksville has a relatively poor selection of good restaurants, but Chameleons was the best we've had on any of our trips. We'll certainly be back. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant when we spent one night in Parksville. Restaurants seem to close early there, so when four of us walked into this one at 8:45pm, and the owner said "yes, we're open" with a bright smile, we were happy. The owner came to our table and engaged us in very great conversation. The place was clean and well laid out. The food was absolutely delicious, the sauteed/roasted veggies were perfectly done. Salmon perfectly seasoned and cooked. The veggie stir-fry was well thought out nicely prepared and seasoned (not just a pile of bland veggies). The fall-of-the-bone sticky ribs were delicious. The owner was a delight and his service was warm and friendly. This is a good restaurant. Recommend: better signage to draw attention to it. read more

Saw the good reviews on Yelp and decided to try this place while we were in Parksville. Glad we did. First of all, one of the owners, a bubbly young lady greeted us with a smile and the service did not disappoint throughout the night. Very attentive to details. We didn't have any appetizers, just the lemon caper salmon for my wife and a half rack of ribs for myself and a couple of caesar drinks. Drinks were perfect, ribs were to die for...fall off the bone delicious. Even the vegetables were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The rib sauce...awesome. My wife's salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned as well. We shared a sticky date cake with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream with a raspberry coulee which was awesome. Overall, a perfect meal...when do you ever get that! With excellent service and conversation. Although, it was a pretty slow night and they had time to chat. But definitely give this place a shot...the chef definitely knows what they are doing. Oh, and the price...downright reasonable. They could definitely charge more for what you get.
