Wonderful atmosphere here in a converted old house. The porch area in the late afternoon, early evening is splendid and a perfect spot to enjoy some suds. Most everyone here is ready to give you a cheers. The beer is fine, nothing special for me and too IPA heavy. But its worth drinking and enjoying the brewpub. read more

House + Beer + Music = House Party. And that's what Blackrocks is like. Even the bartenders are having a good time, and there's nothing better than being at a business where the workers are happy, too. I paid on short visit here during a trip to Marquette, and enjoyed it immensely. I tasted a few of the beers and settle on the 151 IPA. It was bold and prickly with hops, and thirst-quenching. We sat at the bar, but there is also an outdoor patio in front and a nice big bright space upstairs which gives a view down to where the musicians perform. Something I have not yet seen in a brew pub is the mug club, where there's a "locker room" of private mugs, each which will give you a good German-size brew (a little extra for your money,) if you pay to join. I'd like to be the potter, 'cause his mugs are everywhere! There's no food but they are happy to show you a booklet of menus from local restaurants and you can order in. In concept and execution, it's one of the best micro-breweries I've been to. read more

Great Place. The folks at Blackrocks really make some outstanding beers. My personal favorite that I just tried is the Roast Charger (or was it Roasted Charger) it was described as a cold pressed coffee brown beer. Another fav is the Honey Lav. The atmosphere there is also great. An old house converted to the brewery. You go here for great beers and conversation. No 50 tv's showings all the sports games, just good old conversation with people. Blackrocks is always a place we stop in several times when ever we get to visit Marquette. read more

What a unique, fun atmosphere with DELICIOUS beer...! But the bartenders??? HORRIBLE!! Traveling from Wisconsin I was over the moon to finally see the brewery that my fiance has been raving about. Every time he comes up to the UP he stocks up their beer to bring home. To make a long story short....We walked into the bar on Saturday (2-22) and I had asked the bartender for a specific beer and he rolled his eyes and practically threw me two samples at me... ok??? I'm bartender. I get it. You're probably having a shitty day...but you and I both know how you should suck it up. I ignored it. Then my fiance ordered and it was the same attitude...Ignored it. He even commented how delicious the beer was right off the tap. BOY-- shouldn't have done that!! The bartender then began to argue with my fiance about the taste and how it wasn't any different... Ok... it's not. whatever. We're sorry? It was a compliment. Again-- Ignored it. Maybe 5 minutes later we were talking about the beer (my fiance and I) and the bartender chimed in again. I had it. I'm done. This is suppose to be my mini vacation and he was ruining it. I tossed him a tip (why?? I couldn't tell you) and we walked out. Unfortunately we won't be back to this establishment ever again, nor will we tell our friends about it. You're the face of this company. You should probably remember that or get out of the industry. read more

Every time I'm in town I stop by here. Excellent beer and the crew working it really know their stuff. All the local Marquette folk come here too, you can see their custom mugs on the ceiling. They're always trying new flavors. Definitely one of my favorite breweries. read more

A small but very cool place to have a drink outside while the weather is nice. The Grand Rabbits is a solid and refreshing beer, but I thought the Coconut Brown was phenomenal--very smooth to drink with a bit of sweetness added in. It reminded me (and compares favorably to) Maui Brewing Co.'s CoCoNut Porter. I also hear very positive things about their limited release Classic Pilsner but was unable to get a taste for myself. Blackrocks is definitely a destination for beer lovers passing through Marquette. read more

Stopped here on a suggestion from a friend and loved it. I was visiting the UP for the weekend and wanted to spend a day around Marquette during which this was our first stop. From the outside it looks just like all the other cute downtown houses but inside its a brewery. The beer was good too, I've recently discovered a store in the metro detroit area that carries the IPA I tried while there and I cant wait to go buy some. The vibe was also very mellow and nice. Definitely a place I will go to again should I find myself in the Marquette area again. read more

20 years ago I moved from Michigan to California... where the beer is almost as good. Every few years I make my way back "home" and am pleased to find the food and drinks get better and better. Blackrocks is no exception. I swung through Marquette this summer, and stayed with my friend who conveniently lives only a few blocks from the brewery. I had quite a session and managed to taste just about all they were pouring. Impressive! Most beers were really solid, well developed, and top in class. A couple were a noble attempt at something unique. The bar is in an old house, and has a comfortable living room feel. Weather permitting, the porch is also a good option. Check out the beer taps, each handmade from a different stray piece of sports equipment: golf club, bicycle chain ring, lacrosse stick, and no bar in the UP is complete without at least one hockey stick. My visit was atypical, so I can't say much about the usual scene. I stumbled into an afterhours session with the brewers and barhands. Great guys! It may be years until I get back to Marquette, but when I do... I'm making a beeline for Blackrocks. read more

WOW. how have we just discovered this place within the last year?! This is hands down our favorite brewery in Michigan. The grand rabbits is AMAZING and also coconut brown. Blackrocks is one of Marquette's hidden treasures. The renovated house turned nano brewery is a flat out good time. From the early days of "Open till empty" to the expanded brewing operations and hours, the iconic watering hole has come along way in just two years. The owners are passionate and friendly and look to be having a blast running this business. The atmosphere is excellent, but expect to stand elbow to elbow with fellow beer lovers. The beer taps change frequently and you never know what to expect from them each week. I lost track of the number of different brews that have flowed from the taps, but it has to be nearly a 100. Eight brews are on at all times and you should find something you like. I would have scored five stars, but a couple drawbacks are limited space, consistency and tap breadth. I don't know if they continue to tweak their recipes, but several brews I've enjoyed have never looked nor tasted the same as the original. At times the individual taps are too similar and although I love seeing 4 IPAs on tap, tap breadth can be improved. read more

Great place for a beer, though the selection is sometimes spotty. You can always rely on the types they sell in cans: Grand Rabbits, Coconut Brown, etc. Read the descriptions on the stairs - helpful and sometimes funny, too. Go early if you want good seating! read more

Blackrocks just gets better and better every time I stop in. This is by far the best brewery in the Marquette area and one of the best I've had the pleasure to drink at. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff can answer any questions you have about their brews. They also have an awesome house band playing during the week sometimes! read more
