These guys are total professionals, and fast. I take all my vehicles here. A lot of fun to talk to, too, some pretty interesting characters that work there. I recently took my RV to Alaska and back and it about shredded my tires and alignment, and you name it. They had me back together in record time, discount warranted out two tires, and consulted with me on a lot of things that I could be doing better. They even fixed the electric step on the RV, which doesn't look much like a tire to me! I have lots of vehicles and they all go here. Weren't able to take care of my leaking tire the first time and blamed the leak on the temporary patch that was in the tire before they had the tire the first time it was there. Slight difference in opinion. If you are not knowledgeable about tire treads and tire life they probably would convince you into buying tires that you don't need yet. Be mindful of the nonsense that they're trying to convince you of. Luckily Before I previously had a wheel alignment and inspection done and I was fully aware of the tire conditions. read more

I discovered at 5:00 pm, before I was to leave on a 6 hour trip that I had a bulging tire. Called them, they close at 5:30. The man on the phone was so nice, Che Jed to make sure they had the tires that I needed, wrote up the ticket so it would be ready for me first thing in the morning. My experiences have been the worst Ever(Carolina Beach Rd). I called and asked about getting an oil change, a cabin air filter and a engine air filter. I was told it would be about a hour and a half. I dropped it off and came back an hour later. I waited a total of 3 hours. At the 3 hour mark, i asked about how much longer it would be. I was told, that they didn't know but that they were working on my truck. I informed them that, that couldn't be the case because I noticed my truck hadn't moved and was still in the place I parked it. They couldn't find my ticket that they wrote for my trucks wanted service. At that point, I informed them that I had to leave. They found my keys and offered no apology or appeared to even care about the lack of professionalism, and show any empathy for the inconvenience. read more

My daughter and I were on a road trip when we had a serious tire issue. The belt in one of the tires broke, and it needed to be replaced ASAP. When I went in the shop, the guy at the front counter was very polite, and said I would have to wait probably 2 1/2 hours. As I really had no choice, I said I would wait. He could tell that meant I really needed help as I had to be in Asheville the next day. The waiting area was very clean and open. We settled in for our long wait, only to discover they were able to replace my tire more quickly than originally thought. I'm someone who really notices behavior, and all the guys there- the technicians and the gentleman working out front seem to really get along. They were kind, respectful, efficient, and helpful. A simple oil change costing me $6,000. I got my oil changed on Wednesday. On Friday my car engine seized up and threw a rod. I towed it to the dealer and was told that Blacks left the drain plug loose and the oil had drained out. There was oil all over the drip shield under the car. According to the Honda mechanic It threw a rod because there was no oil or at least very little oil left. Blacks claims no responsibility saying the thrown rod has nothing to do with them. According to Cole at Blacks, we are to believe that the engine blowing up less 48 hours after the service has nothing to do with the loose drain plug. read more

Don't bother to book an appointment, they don't honor appointments. Booked an 8:30 appointment, my car sat forever...while others who came in after me were taken before my car was even moved. No offer of explanation, usually Blacks is pretty good, but they failed to honor appointments. Customer service is lacking, cold and uncaring front desk help. read more

I've been bringing my 2006 Acura TL (now with 235,000 miles+!) to this location for years, and I wouldn't trust it with anyone else. Carl and the rest of the team are knowledgeable, friendly, and always focused on keeping my car safe. They never upsell unnecessary services but let me know when something will be needed soon. I usually wait while the work is done, and I really appreciate that their time estimates are always accurate. If you need something straightforward like an oil change, I recommend getting there at 7:15 to get in and out. I was told by another tire shop that this nail in my tire could not be patched, and I'd have to buy not one, but 2 new tires (so the axle would be "even"). Luckily a friend of mine told me to get a second opinion at this Black's tire location. The whole experience was great from start to finish, the front desk staff were very friendly and personable and said they'd take a look to see what could be done.. When my car was ready they told me the nail hadn't even punctured the tire, it was just wedged into the tread. They just pulled it out of the tread. It took a few minutes, and was a simple fix, but they wouldn't even charge me a dollar. Not one dollar. I went from a 475.00 quote for 2 new tires to no charge, it was completely unexpected but much needed. This is my new tire shop. They told me an hour and half wait or come by first thing in the morning. Left and came to Mobil BSI in Monkey Junction. Said they wd charge me abt $13. Customer service is excellent, the facility is clean and comfortable to wait in-- with coffee service--and I'm always treated with the utmost respect and kindness. These guys are honest and won't try to sell you something you don't need. I'm from California and was a patron of America's Tire for many years. Another name for America's Tire is Discount Tire, which is only located in Raleigh, so I had to find another company in Wilmington. I am very, very pleased with my choice. My tires are in great hands, I get excellent service, and competitive tire prices. The only thing I wish Black's had was the warranty service that America's Tire and Discount Tire provide, even on new vehicle tires. It's like $20 per tire. It covers any damage to the tire whatsoever, and they replace the tire. You just pay another $20 for the new warranty on the new tire. It's pretty cool. Too good to be true, which is probably why Black's doesn't do it! read more

I was traveling with my girls and my pup and was five plus hours away from our destination when the tire pressure light came on.... I stopped at Black's Tire and Auto Service as a walk in and they took great care to inspect my tires, fill the tires, and recalibrate the sensor -- and sent us on our way home -- feeling super safe, all at no charge, because there are still really wonderful amazing beautiful people in this world. I am super grateful for their honesty, kindness, and generosity. I cannot recommend these PROFESSIONALS enough if you need tires or auto repair. Don't Trust or take your vehicle to the Blacks Tire in Wilmington on Carolina Beach. Twice I've been there, always take forever and the last time they damaged my 2 year old truck. Incompetent workers. See my review below. It started with a simple task. Just remove the rim off my 2018 Dodge Ram 1500 patch the flat and reinstall a tire on a new Rim as the mounted rim had curb rash. I supplied the new rim, it was clean, brand new in the rear seat. I explained to the tech to put the old dirty rim in the bed of the truck not inside the cab. Well he took the new rim and damaged the paint finish while installing the tire. Took him forever so I walked outside just in time to catch him trying to put the old dirty rim on the seat in the back cab when I stop him and asked him again to put it in the back bed. Got home and I noticed the paint damage on the rim, I immediately called the manager Greg. He made arrangements to replace the rim after he saw it. So now, 2 weeks later, I head back to get the rim replaced, they were doing it on the side of the shop as I was hauling a trailer with a car. After they removed the wheel, I noticed the tech running something through the threads of my studs. It was a die. I asked what are you doing and he said well the threads are a little off here so I'm chasing it. So now it seems the old Tech when they replace the rim also damaged a stud! My truck has 21,000 miles and it has the OEM rims and tires never been touched. But a die doesn't chase threads a dice straightens and cuts them. I'm a 35 yr exp aircraft mechanic, you can only cut so much before the studs strength is affected. Not to mention that it will now be easier to cross thread and or strip in the future. I'm watching as he's doing it incorrectly without oil, forcing the die, trying to do it in one pass. Long story short the nut would only screw down halfway before it felt resistance. The manager came out and I asked him replace it. You're cutting into too much thread and it's going to weaken the stud. So he told the tech to replace it. The tech came back, pulled the caliper off hit the stud with a Sledgehammer. Took the stud inside then he comes back 15 minutes later installs it and I asked him let me look at it. It's the same stud! I told him you're not leaving that stud in there, replace it with a new one! He says it was the nut, that he has a new nut, and it threads all the way down. I said no, it wasn't the nut as I tried the other nuts on it and they all stopped half way down. I said you ran the die all the way down when you took the stud inside, I can see the threads shiny and cut! I tell him nicely and say hey the way you were chasing it you were doing it incorrectly you were trying to straighten it and Chase it all at one shot and wasn't using any lubricant he walks away from me as I'm talking to him! Now he comes back with a new stud and installs it. He brings pliers and I see him tugging on something. Well it seems when he hammered out the old stud he hit the rear metal dust shield behind the rotor and bent it! So now he's straightening this out with a pair of pliers and I just can't believe it. Finally I get the wheel and rim installed and I'm ready to leave. I inspected the replacement Rim before installation that I got at Black's and while it appeared with no damage I know it was resurfaced remanufactured or something because it had data deeply scribed on the inside. My old Rim did not have that and it was a new unrepaired OEM. I'm so disgusted with this whole experience. I'm out to buy a new rim and have this one replaced because I don't trust them. This was the Black's Auto Tire located at Wilmington Carolina Beach. I lost a days work and a nightmare. I'm disgusted. I can only imagine if I were not looking. Lost a days pay and now I'm flipping for a new rim. I did hear back from a rep who said he would make it right if I took down my review. He got my info and I never heard back so my review goes back up. Will stay up! read more

Black's Tire on Carolina Beach Rd is hands down the best. I've been taking my car to them for many years and they never cease to impress me. Years ago I was told by another shop in town that I REALLY needed new brakes and internally questioned it but said "ok, I'll make sure to do it next time". Figured I should still get a second opinion since I didn't 100% believe it so at my next oil change decided to take it to Black's instead simply due to the proximity of their shop to my house. When I dropped it off I told them I was informed that I needed brakes too and to go ahead and do that while it was there. They called a bit later and assured me I was nowhere near needing new brakes and they just didn't feel right changing the pads unless I was having issues. Many other shops would've just taken my money and not thought twice. I haven't taken my car anywhere else since. They are an honest shop that does superior work - if I ever have an issue (doesn't happen often) they immediately try to make it right. I always leave more than pleased with the customer service that I receive. I will continue to recommend them to anyone looking for a solid automotive shop. read more

These people will rip you off given 1/2 a chance. I needed brakes done on 2 wheels. I was charged 89.95 for a diagnostic fee. There was a anti lock braking light that came on that they did absolutely nothing with so whats to diagnose. I told them I needed brakes.. seems like I came up with the Diagnosis. Shop supplies added another 25$ which was not specified. And of course I was told immediately that I needed rotors even though they did the work 3 days later after saying they could do it by Friday. Grand total 562.49 for brakes for 2 wheels. I've had brakes done in the past on 4 wheels for hundreds less. Diagnose me as stupid if I ever trust these Shysters again. read more
