An attractive pleasant dining spot with outdoor seating and modern interior. The menu of food and drinks is vast, especially the latest trend in mixing non-coffee drinks with fruit flavors. There is also a cooler with sodas and real root beer. Some sandwiches have a little spice, not to worry, even some Scandinavians would be able to brag of having "just a little smear", so as not to feel decadent. Needed a pick me up on this dreary day and stopped at Blackwater Coffee & Cafe.My go to coffee to try at a new spot is the Caramel Macchiato.I ordered a medium Macchiato with oat milk.The coffee was okay.It lacked flavor and all of my syrup and coffee sat at the bottom of the cup.The service was quick and lots of smiles from the order taker was a nice treat! Really bad location. Dangerous curve in the road makes caution your top priority in exiting. The gal at the counter needed me to repeat back everything I said to her due to having a headset on and probably being distracted by it. It was around 10 a.m. on a Friday morning and the drive through was humming, though only a couple tables inside occupied. There were 3 gals working the counter and their attitude was cursory, not warm and friendly. I chalk this up to them being busy and at least one of them must've been new as things weren't flowing smoothly. Everyone apparently orders ahead as I waited for my counter order as others came and went. The Dirty Chai was expensive (even for the small size and one shot of espresso). I knew from the first sip in the car I didn't like it. Way too watery, not near enough milk. Worst I've ever had. Got home and dumped it down the drain. Won't be back. read more

This place is adorable inside! Lots of tables and booths in sunny yellow tones that invite you in to stay awhile! My group got a turtle mocha and then two seasonal drinks (valentines themed). They were all delicious! There are only two bathrooms at this coffee shop, which is normally plenty- but this place is rather large and seemed busy, the bathrooms were busy the entire time we were there, which was the only downside to this place. Right when you walk into Blackwater, you can tell that they know what's up. The atmosphere is modern, furniture minimalistic, and prices pretty darn good. Service: Nothing outstanding here, but the gentleman who helped my friend and I was kind and helpful. Spit shields, face masks, and other COVID-19 precautions are clearly taken here. Atmosphere: The furniture is absolute dynamite. Enormous umbrellas found on the outside tables are funky and get your attention right away. The booths are a bright yellow that pops against the wood-grain tables. You feel cool sitting in this place, and it makes you want to return. Food: I ordered the Breakfast Burrito with Sausage. It came pipin' hot in a tomato basil wrap, sliced in half... and was darn good! The gooey cheese provided an impressive bridge of texture and flavor between the sausage, egg, and I think salsa too. If you like any of those ingredients, you gotta give this menu item a shot! Drinks: Coffee was bitter, but not in a bad way. It had a unique depth of flavor that was almost fruity, and I would be down for another cup any day. I am not from the area but decided to try out the Minneapolis location with a friend. The service was excellent and the food was excellent! I got the White Chocolate Mocha and my friend got the Thai Milk Tea, both were wonderful! For food, I got a danish and he got Thai chicken wrap. The peanut sauce on it was to die for! First time here, and while my company was great, the cafe itself was just alright. I ordered an almond milk mocha and a croissant egg sandwich. The mocha wasn't very chocolatey, but the egg sandwich was pretty heavenly. I'm not one to usually care what baristas/servers wear, but the baristas were looking a little concerningly unkept and were kind of rude too. Nothing special here. The best I can say about the sandwich is that it didn't come in plastic! I got a tuna melt that they didn't grill. All it had was a blob of tuna salad in the middle of the bread, (loosely called salad since all it was was tuna and mayo), a thin slice of American cheese and for an extra charge of $1.50 a pickle and bag of chips. All for a mear $9.69 w/o tax. The reuben was $10.75, but it cost more because they were giving so little meat the person asked and paid for extra meat. So for the price - there's no deal here. I use to be a former employee so I am aware of how things are made both drink and food. I went in there expecting good quality , sadly I was let down. The latte I order was burned espresso and I could barely taste the flavor I asked. Also the employees were very loud when talking each other about how I requested my food. Very rude. Stopped in to order dinner, which we have done often. A big fan of the Blue Beef sandwich. I recommend that sandwich. What made this visit different was the face that when a mistake was made on the order, the other employee picked up the mistake by the first person, worked on fixing our order and making the situation right. Big shout out to Jordan who knew how to fix a mistake. After the employee that made the mistake found out what was happening she apologized and gave me a credit on my sandwich. I don't expect every visit to be perfect but Jordan made a mistake into a positive by taking things into her own hands. Nicely done! read more

Highly recommend not having food here. I had heard good things so went with my motherinlaw. I ordered the Cuban because, well Cubans are awesome. Working in Maple Plain means limited lunch options nearby. After eating my fill of Subway, I tried Blackwater and am sure to return when I need a good change of pace. They offer very good sandwiches (wraps as well which I have not tried). The pricing is a little spendy and the service can be slow but they offer take out, which works great. read more

I'm impressed they had highlander grogg available. Nice variety with food, coffee drinks, and even beer. I noticed two giant speakers mounted high in an open area, so I'm assuming they have live music once in a while. They make a great dirty chai. I tried to like this place, I really did. I've been here on 3 occasions, and on only 1 trip have I actually enjoyed my drink (i got an iced tea on that visit). I stopped today for a latte with almond milk, and it was undrinkable. It was, hands down, the worst almond milk latte I've ever had, and I've been drinking them for years. Almond milk is a diva when it comes to heat compared to other non dairy milks and it has to be heated slowly compared to regular cows milk. The latte I got today was far too hot and tasted burned/scorched. I had to throw it away. Really, they earn 2 stars solely because their iced tea is delicious.
