Might seem odd posting a review for a mortuary, but I've unfortunately had to deal with others before and Blair's was far and away the best experience in this unpalatable enterprise. Not only are they one of the most economical in terms of cost, but interacting with the whole staff from start to finish was a real pleasure. They were professional, thoughtful, organized, considerate, and compassionate. Heather did an absolutely fantastic job guiding me through a difficult process and anyone else I worked with (Garrett, for example) were also friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Obviously no one wants to be in a situation where they need a place like Blair's, but if you find yourself there, they are definitely the ones to go to in Redding and/or Shasta County. read more

My mother recently passed away. She had a prepaid cremation plan in another state that she purchased in 1986. When I called them I was told they had no record of her plan because it was so long ago. I had minimal paperwork. I took the paperwork I had to Blair's Direct Cremation and Burial and talked to Mike the Funeral Director. He made calls and kept me informed with updates on what he found out. Thankfully he found the bank where her money was being held and it paid for almost all of her cremation. My brother passed away and he wanted to be cremated. Blair's had the beat prices and worked with my family. This place is only for cremations, if you want more frills go somewhere else. This business has our family members' ashes for 7+ months. They have refused to release him to his mother, children, sisters, or uncle. The family paid for the cremation 7+ months ago! There is no wife or registered domestic partner. The business is holding him hostage without offering any proof or reason. I am sorry to resort to this online comment, but we have tried every reasonable avenue to resolve this issue. We just laid his mother to rest without the comfort of having her son's remains. My husband, the family patriarch who helped raise his nephew has asked nicely and was told that "It will all work out." We are hoping that this truthful review will help nudge this business to do the right thing. read more

I will be contacting them Monday and below is the message i sent them. If you have any requests before they cremate your loved one make sure you stay on them or else they wont do it. Complaint: My Mothers mother (my Grandmother) passed away and was taken to your facility to be cremated. my mother talked to a woman over the phone and asked for a lock of her hair before they cremated her. My mom was assured that a note would be placed in my Grandmothers file. My mother called a few days later and she talked to a man that said paperwork was holding up the cremation. She brought up the hair again and again, she was reassured. The hair was never saved or given to my mother and I am looking into what happened. This is completely unacceptable and something you can't ever rectify. The Incompetence of your staff has taken away something that my mother can never get back. read more

If you buy a preplan, make sure you ask them about the transportation cost. The company they use only transports 75 miles or more. If your loved one is close to the funeral place you pay for nothing. Then they tell you it's your fault. My mom passed away and the nursing home sent her to the wrong place, so because this happened we are at fault and forfeit the $499 trans fee. SHAME ON YOU!!! We used Blair's Direct's newly opened Red Bluff office, and this review is about our experience with that facility. The sole staff that we met was very efficient and accommodating. Just four days after picking up my mother, they were able to provide the urn and certificates of death, about four hours before the memorial service. I've heard that it can take 10 days for the certificates, but they were able to work with the doctor and the county to make it happen (they cannot cremate the body without a permit). They have a flat rate package that includes the permit, one certificate of death, a simple urn, transportation, cremation, and a $140 cardboard box which the body is to be cremated in. Not sure why they need the box, but I did not argue about it. As of this writing, they don't have a crematorium in Red Bluff, so the actual cremation was done in Redding. My mother's ashes must have been sifted prior to being placed in the urn, as there were no bone fragments, and the jewelry we had placed on her was also not in the urn. Overall recommended. Better than my previous experiences with funeral homes. read more

I would NEVER recommended this place to anyone, there was No compassion for my family or myself. Communication with the family is key when it comes to losing a loved one. They never called my brother n law to let him know they received my sisters body from the corners which they had for 3 days. Then the day we were going to view her body, again they never called to see if we had a certain Dress or outfit we would like her to be wearing, My niece called to ask how and what they do for a viewing, she shouldn't have to do this she just lost her mother. Again no empathy or compassion what so ever for the family, We went to view the body and we did ask if they can cut a little piece of her hair, and they agreed to do that, but when receiving the hair INSTEAD of them saying her you go I hope this may bring you some sort of comfort we got well this is all we can give you because where they did the autopsy the hair is saturated in blood and I didn't what to give you bloody hair...REALLY WHO DOES THAT to a family that just lost a loved one WHO, that is so NOT human. Thats ugly not to mention to only thing that I think about. I do not recall the guys name nor do I care at this point. I wanted to wait at least one week before I wrote this review to let my anger and outrage settle to make sure that I am writing a clear and accurate testimony to the incompetence of the Blair Direct Cremation & Burial Services. The staff was very friendly when I first met them to pay for the services for my sister's cremation. However, the experience ended poorly. They did not complete her cremation within the 15 business days that were agreed upon services. And when they did complete it, I went to go pick up my sister's ashes with my mother at their Red Bluff location. When I arrived with a mother grieving for her only daughter, we were told that they did not have her ashes at the agreed location. So, with my emotionally torn mother, I had to drive another 30 minutes to their Redding location. Due to the ineptitude of the management, Blair took what was already a painful, stressful experience and amplified it to make this situation even worse than it already was. Do not hire Blair Direct Cremation and Burial Services to handle the remains of your loved ones. read more

Very disappointing service received from this company. We had our loved one cremated thru Blairs. Part of the service paid for was to have the remains delivered to the National Cemetery for the scheduled service on 11/14/16, with the remains the certified death certificates were also to be sent for pick up. Our service was scheduled at 2:00 PM. We arrived early to the cemetery and my sister in law wanted to pickup the death certificates so we went into the office and the staff asked if we had brought the remains. We told them that they were to be delivered. They called Blairs and said they would be there. The staff instructed us to head to the chapel and at 2:00 PM we were instructed to sit inside. Military personal came in and placed the flag and we all sat. The tension in the room was increasing as we just sat, no explanation just silence. 30 minutes later the remains arrived and the service began. After the service my sister in law went back into the office to pick up the death certificates and they were not there. At that time I phone Blairs and asked for the manager, Erica came onto the line and said they were at the office and said she would mail them. She also said it was a good thing someone called about the remains because this service was overlooked. Really, this is your business and you created a lot of stress for many individuals because of your overlooked process. I would recommend you search for another company if you are expecting to have a smooth transition. One star is being given because you can't post with zero stars. read more

I am so very grateful to have found Blair's! My father in law passed away a couple of weeks ago so my husband drove up from Sonoma County to take care of everything. He called me in a panic and told me the funeral home the hospital had sent the body to wanted a ridiculous amount of money for cremation. Not only that but the guy was rude and unwilling to work with him. So I found Blair's and talked to Erica. The price was close to half of what the other guy wanted and it included everything, even transportation of the body. Erica was really sweet and kind and easy to talk to. What a relief! So I gave my husband her name and number and they met and took care of everything. She really put the entire family at ease! Blairs is great except for the death certificate was incorrect for my husbands birth date. This caused a lot of issues. When someone dies the paperwork needed for federal, Banks, insurance agencies is incredible, so when I noticed that the birth date was incorrect I had already sent several of the documents out. It took 2 weeks to get this re-registered and get a new amended documents. Whoa what a drag!! Shasta Co. Health would not replace the wrong documents that I had printed at Shasta Co. Health. I will have to pay again -$16.00 ea chg. I had already put out $80.00. Everyone please check your org. copy thoroughly. This is a hassle that I just didn't need at this time.. I have to resend all the documentation out again. The people at Blair's are nice but beware of the paperwork. read more

Blair's is a great mortuary! It is the most inexpensive mortuary in Shasta County. The service is great and they do what ever they can to make it the most easiest service around town. Even if you live far away from California or Shasta County you can call and use Blair's Direct Cremation and Burial Service. They are the most loving and understandable people! I would hope that anyone looking at these reviews in their time of need will strongly ready the negative reviews and take them to heart. I have sadly had to deal with many funerals in the last 20 years and did have wonderful care with the mortuary I was using, which was in not in Redding. BLAIRS is the worst so called mortuary I have ever dealt with and absolutely no compassion at all! Erica is the most rude inconsiderate person I have ever dealt with in any business and certainly not the type of person to be in a funeral business. When faced with a death of a loved one we can be beyond upset and devastated and need compassionate understanding people. Someone as kind as dealing with your minister in a time like this, and sadly far from that was Blairs, especially Erica! I will not leave a review in regards to the legality's and wrong doings in detail, but they handled things wrong and of course once someone is cremated its permanent. Sadly the worst experience ever and makes me feel so in creditably hurt my loved one was brought to this horrible place. read more

Communication could have been better. Eleven days after a family member passed, I had not received notification of cremation. I call Blair's to find out the hold up is at the doctors office for the death certificate. I am assured they will "not leave me hanging". I believed they would notify me when the death certificates arrive and the cremation is completed. Twenty-two days after the death, I call again. The cremation took place six days earlier. I never received a call. Very disappointed as we had family members here the previous weekend. Due to this, Blair's did not charge me for the plastic box. read more

Our loved one passed away yesterday and we had everything prearrange with Blair's. When they came by to pick up her remains, they were very kind and compassionate. We were told that nothing further would be done until we contacted them. This morning, the next day, a death notice was put in the local paper without our notice or authorization. We started calling close friends to let them know what had happened only to be told that they had read it already in the paper. One was in tears asking us why they had to find out so impersonally from the paper. We called Larry Blair to ask what had happened. Admittedly, not our finest hour to have such conversation, but the hostile and aggressive behavior from this guy caused a major blow up over the phone. Fortunately, Larry, at his diplomatic best, hung up on us. Very unapologetic, very unprofessional. We cannot in any good conscience recommend this business for any service.
