My Experience with Allen & Dahl Funeral Home I feel obligated to share our experience with Allen & Dahl Funeral Home because families deserve to know what they may be dealing with during an already heartbreaking time. We recently had my father's cremation handled through Allen & Dahl, and unfortunately, our experience was horrible from beginning to end. We were initially charged $1,800 more than what we should have been charged, which we had to address ourselves. Communication was also extremely poor. We were never contacted when my father's remains were ready to be picked up. We had to find out and make the effort to contact them ourselves. What was perhaps the most upsetting part was the complete lack of compassion and empathy shown to our family. We had just lost our father, and at no point did we feel like we were being treated with the care or understanding you would expect from a funeral home. I also explained from the beginning that I work out of town during the week and that I could only pick up my father's remains on the weekend. I was told I would need to make an appointment. When the time came to make that appointment, the response was essentially, "Good luck. You can call and see if anyone is here." This is someone's father. Someone's grandfather. Someone's loved one. Families should not have to chase down a funeral home for answers, worry about unexpected charges, or feel like an inconvenience when trying to bring their loved one home. Losing my dad has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. The last thing our family needed was additional stress and frustration from the people we trusted to help us through this process. I would not recommend Allen & Dahl based on our experience, and I sincerely hope other families receive the compassion, communication, honesty, and respect that we did not. read more

This is the most uncaring funeral home I have ever seen. They were unhelpful and just want to give us a sheet with their prices. My family member is a veteran and deserves the upmost respect. Very unprofessional and disrespectful. I had appointment, I showed up on time, I was escorted to a room filled with urns, and pieces of caskets on the wall, and left sitting there for 20 minutes! No one ever came back to talk to me, I left. I was grieving the death of a loved one and was treated terribly! Not to mention they are extremely expensive! $2,900 for cremation!!! My mom passed away in November, we used Allen's and Dahl for her cremation. While we were in there to talk about cremation, she showed us the jewelry we could get of her fingerprint. We decided at that time to get three necklaces for myself, my sister, and my brother. It took three months to get the necklaces with us calling to see if they were in know one gave us a call. After receiving them they were horrible quality the finger print was just squiggly lines no real fingerprint. We called them over and over with them telling us they would see about the matter. They decided to try again on the fingerprint again saying they would call me back. Week later I called back. Same situation looked horrible. So we called and called no one calling us back for weeks. This is now July , they finally agreed to give money back for necklaces. It's been a major runaround. They have horrible communication skills and I don't think I'd ever go back there. I don't ever leave bad reviews. But somebody that preys on your Grief is somebody that needs a bad review. read more

DO NOT use Allen & Dahl!!!! They are very unprofessional, communication is horrible, they absolutely do not care about your loved one and have zero compassion for you during such a difficult time. The entire process for cremation took just under 6 weeks, and likely would have taken much longer had we not called and complained. For weeks following our loved ones passing, we called and were just told to "call back the end of the week for an update." We would call the end of every week and were told they would pass off a message to someone else. We filled out death certificate information within 2 days of the passing and called to confirm they received all the information needed for the certificate, and they informed us they had. Weeks went by and zero communication from them. We call to complain nearing week 6 and were told, there was one question on the death certificate application that needed to be verified (our loved one's occupation 30+ years ago). Totally sounded like and excuse because they knew they dropped the ball, and in 2 seconds we verified the information (which was exactly what was on the application, no changes necessary) and surprise surprise our loved one was cremated within 2 days. There is absolutely NO reason that this should have gone on as long as it did. Multiple family members have had to pause plans (some living across the US) to attend a service while we were being played by the staff for almost 6 weeks. It is disgusting that these human beings working at this establishment can show up to work each day and have complete disregard for another human being and their family. You all should be ashamed of yourself. read more

We had a pleasant experience with my Aunts service. We would most definitely chose Allen and Dahl again. Every person was extremely helpful and attentive to our needs. My Aunt was so well taken care of that when we came in to do her makeup and hair she looked as if she was just sleeping, her skin was beautiful, we barely had to apply foundation. Her hair was clean and soft ready to be done. As a family we appreciated how much they cared for her. The ladies not only cared for her but us as a family as well. They took special attention in getting perfect fingerprints for our necklaces and made sure we received them by email. I have had the unfortunate experience of working with this group 3 times. They do not care about you or your family member, only their profit. When planning my dad's funeral we were forced to pick an immediate day and then they jacked up the price of the casket by $2000. When another family member we died and made sure arrangements were simple and inexpensive they took no care and and did the death certificate incorrectly requiring an amendment and causing 6 months of hell. Other family members picked them again for another family member. I go in the funeral coordinator wore no mask and was clearly coughing and sneezing. I went back a few days later to confirm the death certificate information- which again was incorrect! By now the woman was hacking and coughing still no mask and during a well known Covid surge. Now all of us have to test. So inconsiderate. read more

My friend lost a loved one and we went to Allen and Dahl for a cremation. After she paid over $2000. for the cremation, they wanted another $50.00 for a plastic urn to take the remainder of the ashes home after we paid $200.00 for a small ceramic memory urn. Louise said you must buy the $50.00 urn as it is a state law. Allen and Dahl is out for every dime they can get. I wouldn't take my dead cat there. read more

I do not and would never recommend these people. They do not have any follow thru with any aspect of communication. They do not do what they say. And with no remorse. Let me preface this review with saying: I do not normally leave reviews. But I felt that writing a review would: 1) help me to release my frustration and anger caused by Allen & Dahl's treatment of my grieving family and 2) to advise any family in the future seeking a caring and compassionate funeral home--RUN, DON'T WALK, TO ANY OTHER FUNERAL HOME IN THE AREA! For us, the entire process was unsatisfactory. The staff were not helpful. Not compassionate. Not expedient. Not caring. And above all: Not communicative. It makes me feel that most of these reviews are fake. Instead, they appeared disorganized, inept, and unprofessional. After a death, a family needs help managing what comes next in a timely manner. Families need to be able to plan memorials, services and burials. Allen & Dahl was not helpful producing this other than eventually providing our loved one's cremains, 6 WEEKS later. From the start they were unprofessional. Their team was late picking up the body. They gave us an initial appointment at their office 2 business days later. They did not offer condolences. The paperwork process felt like buying a used car. It took an inordinately long time. The process to get the death certificate was a comedy in errors by them. Then they misspelled our loved one's name, causing further delays. We had to follow up on every step ourselves, and each time the people who worked there didn't know anything about what was going on. Finally, after 4 weeks of back and forth, we were informed the cremains were ready for pick up, but when we went to get them, they forgot to include the urn we ordered. We had to follow up with them ourselves. Two weeks later we went ahead. and picked the cremains without the urn because we were tired of waiting and not hearing any idea of a timeline for delivery. Total time to finish the process: 6 weeks. They did finally return the cost of the urn to us, but only after we followed up yet again and requested it. At no point in the entire funeral services process did anyone working there maintain communication with us. Allen & Dahl dropped the ball at every turn in this process. My family expected compassion and understanding when we hired Allen & Dahl. Instead we were met with disinterested and callous treatment. I personally, don't think Allen & Dahl should be allowed to continue providing these services to the public, but that is not my call. I can only advise any other grieving family to make the wise decision to use the services of another funeral home in the Redding area. read more

would never recommend this funeral home. I only went to them because my father ( who is the reason I dealt with this funeral home) told me that I was to go to them when he passed. He told me that his life insurance thru the VA was with them, and that they would take the expenses out of the life insurance and then send me the remainder. That didn't happen, but that isn't why I'm so upset, I'm furious that my father who is a Vietnam veteran with a Purple Heart as well as other medals did NOT get the proper service that he deserved, due to the negligence of Amanda at Alan and Dhal. I wanted my father to have volleys at his service, first I was told that he had to be high enough rank to get them for free, but that she would look more into it. Then she came to me saying that he wasn't at a high enough rank and that I would have to pay $200 to have the volleys done, so I said I will pay that. I received a call the morning of the service from Amanda to let me know everything was confirmed and that the volleys would be done. However when I got out to the Igo cemetery for my father's services no one showed up to do the Volleys. Apparently the Anderson VFA had called Amanda prior to this day to inform her he didn't have a team to be able to do the Vollys and that the Red Bluff VFA would be able to do it. But Amanda NEVER called to make sure with Red Bluff if they were in fact able to attend my father's service. My father served this country not once but twice in the Vietnam war, he had a Purple Heart for being wounded in this war. After all was said and done, or should I say not done, all's I got was I'm sorry, and the run around of who dropped the ball on this situation. Alls I wanted was the very best service for my father, and I was willing to pay for everything, even tho he laid his life on the line back in that war. That was definitely the hardest day of my life, besides the day he passed away, and it was ruined at the hands of this funeral home. No Veteran's family should have to go through what I went through!!!!!! It's not like my dad gets a do over of dying. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would, I did not receive one single phone call from them with status updates for the cremation of my step dad, I had to call them, I would have understood if they had been honest with me, they avoided it at all costs, then finally I speak to a manager and we finally get my stepdads remains for his internment, she promises that since the death certificate is not ready that she would personally ship it to me overnight, a week later I call them AGAIN, and was actually lied to by someone saying that it was ready to be shipped out overnight, this was on a Tuesday, by thursfday I call back, guess what, still hasn't been sent out, again I'm promised it will go out overnight, I will update you on when or if they ever send it out. Giving you a time line, my stepdad passed March 28th. I went to them on March 30th. today is April 29th 2021!!!!!!!! Save yourself some heartache and frustration. read more

So my father passed away on March 27, 2018 and I went to Redding on March 29,2018 and paid for the cremation and shipping of my dads remains. I was told maybe a week or 2. I planned a memorial service for April 20, 2018 and my dads ashes we're not at the service and to make matters worse he was never cremated until April 19. And to add insult to injury the funeral home had promised for the cost of $150 that my dad would be shipped to San Jose first class mail and I would have to sign for his remains they would not be just left out on my porch I was told that I would receive them Monday or Tuesday, April 23 and they came on Sunday, April 22 and the only reason I know they came is because when I was on my way out of the house I found The box laying on my porch I have no idea how long my father's remains laid out on my porch in the sun there was the possibility that someone could've stolen them who knows what could've happened thank God I found them out there before anything happened. I am extremely disappointed in the care and the respect that this funeral home offers. You are dealing with people who are in grieving and to treat them that way and to treat their loved ones remains with such disrespect is just disgraceful!!! read more

This funeral home is the worst. When you entrust someone with the responsibility of taking care of your loved one you expect them to take the utmost care of all the details. We had a very simple request and was assured it was part of their normal procedure. We confirmed twice that it had been done. Weeks later and many phone calls later we find out they didn't do it. Too late now. There are no "do overs" here. Terrible service. I felt when I called that the manager didn't really care. They had offered to send some little keepsake to make up for it.
