I've been sick for a while...mostly depression but hadn't been able to eat drink or sleep for 5 days. I made 2 trips to Blake er and got great service even tho they had every bed filled! I had the best nurse named Priscilla. she was an angel she took my hand when she saw me crying and I have never felt such kindness and understanding like that from a stranger. Every hospital is getting bad raps for something...it's nice to know that at Blake hospital you get treated by angels Thank you Priscilla. Food sucked,patients yelling and screaming, medical staff was yelling at patients, freaked like a piece of @%*^.

Sat in ER waiting areas for 5 hours before being transferred to a room. Nurses were responsive until today. It took two hours for a nurse to respond to me or my roommate who was in distress and calling for help ( from 8:00 am 10:00 Am I limped to the nursing station to let them know about my roommate and they said they would send someone. No one showed up. Aboit half hour later the hospital's rapid response team swarmed in to provide care to my roommate. Tho place is loaded with traveling nurses who are not responsive to patient calls or take 15 or so minutes to respond. Spmuimrs they don't respond at all. God forbid you have an emergency event. Do not go to this hospital if you think may need an emergency nursing or doctor response of any kind. The Calvary is not coming to save you or showing up too late to help you read more

I remember when Blake Hospital used to be the gold standard in quality care in Bradenton. As of last year, they still have a top-notch trauma center, but if you're waiting in the ER with anything less than an overdose or profuse bleeding (because God forbid you get blood on their floors, don't you know?) then you're in for a long, excruciating wait. As I sit here, my husband is waiting to see an ER doctor for the sixth time in an astonishing three week period. Why? Because they don't seem to care enough to figure out why he has constant problems. They certainly didn't care enough to ask if he had a latex allergy before they installed a latex indwelling Foley. He suffered for 10 days before they figured out why he had severe pain. That was visit number three. The last time we were here, on Thursday, April 11, my husband wasn't even examined by the doctor, despite having documentation of a critical level of yeast in his bladder. Instead, the doctor "threw" pills at him and sent him home. Is it any wonder why we're back here again? No, no it's not. I wouldn't even come here with my husband, but Bay Pines in St. Pete is too far away for us to travel. So nice to know Blake Hospital staff treats our veterans with such disdain. read more

Blake Hospital deserves ZERO stars.I was admitted with a severe asthma attack with pneumonia. I was a dropped off into a room with no oxygen. I had to yell out into the hall for help. I also asked for a breathing treatment to which I was told,"Its change of shift right now" I could not breath, panicked and had to call a rapid response on myself.This hospital does not give good care, I DO NOT recommend this hospital to ANYONE. Do NOT go here. I was charged $10,000 and never got out of the waiting room. They did a blood draw, flu and covid test and gave me an IV in the waiting room for $10,000!!! We left after 4 hours because we could no longer wait. Also, I never wanted a flu and covid test because we just returned from Urgent Care. Now I have been on the phone for over an hour and a half trying to question my charges and am not getting through. read more

I went in because I've been having chest pressure and pains for the last couple weeks and my normal blood pressure (I've never been diagnosed with high blood pressure) was 162 over 110. After 5 hours waiting and blood test and x-ray they told me I was not a risk for an immediate heart attack and sent me home. Also they tried to draw blood for me multiple times and blew veins in both arms. They put an IV in in case I needed medicine and that even hit a nerve. All of the women nurses were really mean! The men seem to have a bedside manner. I would not go here unless you are dying and need immediate help. read more

i was EXTREMELY hesitant to go here because the HCA hospital in reston, virginia is AWFUL in every way (and has been for years; they don't care and nothing ever changes.) however, everyone in the ER yesterday around 5 pm (sunday 10/20) was really great. i wish i remembered names, but i was in and out so quickly (six stitches and instructions to return if the bleeding didn't completely stop, which i appreciated as opposed to them forcing me to stay there for hours to see a hand surgeon on a sunday night) that i did not catch anyone's name. everyone were quick, professional, friendly, and calmed me down when i was freaking the hell out. i hope i never have to come back here, but if i do, i feel confident that i would be in good hands. thank you to those who took care of me!! one more thing - i see a LOT of negative reviews on here from people who are coming here over and over and over and over. that's what a primary care doctor is for. the reason you're sitting in the waiting room for hours is bc this is an EMERGENCY room. they are there to make sure you don't die. they are not there to manage your chronic conditions. have a nice day! read more

While the nurses are hardworking and pleasant, the dr my mom saw paid no attention to her diabetes. He ordered a "heart heathy" diet. The hospital serves her pancakes for breakfast, mac'n'cheese for lunch. I called the dietitian (who never returned my call) to complain. The Blake Medical Center has an in-house Hospital Rehab Center located on the 2nd floor of Blake Hospital, a dedicated wing for rehab patients. My dad went there after an eleven-day hospitalization stay for a punctured lung and broken ribs. At age 96, he wanted to be at home rather than rehab, but as he began his rehab stay of 8 days, he realized this rigorous program was doing him a world of good! He came away from the experience more knowledgeable and stronger than ever! If patients get approval from the nursing staff, they can ride the elevator to the courtyard with family! A little fresh air and green space is healthy for healing! The staff on the rehab floor is kind to the whole family and involves them in the healing process, whenever possible. Nurses and doctors quickly attend to patients' needs and, importantly, are sympathetic and understanding to their well-being. My dad's rehab was a four-piece collaboration between nursing and doctor care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and patient's desire to get better. Dad's therapy was rigorous - 4 times a day. We could observe his therapy sessions, which we did a couple of times. The OT and PT gave us helpful hints to use at home. He gained great confidence and strength during his rehab stay! Menu choices are very appealing and arrive to the patient on time - fresh and hot! He enjoyed his meals very much, especially the chocolate cake and the carrot cake. I just had surgery (9/22/23) at Blake Hospital. I have unfortunately had many surgeries (11 total) and at some of the "best" hospitals in the USA. NY, in particular. Thus, I am very experienced at making this rating. ***** Blake Hospital gets 5 stars because its staff is the best with experience, expertise, patient care, friendliness, caring and so much more!!!!!!!! Dr Sarah Simmons is an amazing surgeon! if you saw my incision, you'd know she's the best surgeon!!! I a feel like I hit the lottery finding her and receiving her care! The Op. team gave me an IV. I always have a massive bruise from it. NOT THIS TIME! You couldn't even tell I had IV lines in my veins!! I HAVE NEVER HAD SURGERY WHERE I DIDN'T LEAVE THE HOSPITAL ALL BRUISED UP!!!!!! My wife was scheduled for a pace maker at 12:30pm. The night before we received a call moving the time up to 10:45am. We arrived on time and 4 hours later we were still in preop. When we inquired what the delay was we were told the error was that patients were told the wrong times to show up? Not that there was an emergency that bumped us back which we would have understood. There was another patient that had been there since 8:00am (6 hours in preop!) We signed up for their Informer Program which is supposed to give you and your family updates throughout the day by text. Never once did anyone receive an update. Why have a system that you offer that no one oversees? When I went to get something to eat I stopped at the bathroom at the main entrance (probably one of the most used bathroom in the facility) there were no paper towels. I stopped at the front desk to let them know and there were 4 people behind the desk chewing the fat with the security guard. No concern for preventing infections. Absolutely disappointed with the lack of care and professionalism one would expect from a health care(?) facility. Seriously go to Manatee Memorial instead. Avoid this place. PS don't bother calling the phone number 941-798-6052 that whoever responds to the reviews gives you. They never called me back. What a joke!!! Update: Sara called me back today and left me a message to call her back to discuss my wife's experience. Sara, instead of taking the time to respond to the reviews with some BS response about how your org wants to make things better, how about reading the reviews and contacting corporate to ask for help in making things better? Just say no. Many nice nurses, but poorly run, inexperienced staff and understaffed, lack of transparency and communication, especially from administration, and lots of mistakes. Do not recommend. Not the same hospital it once was--especially ER and ICU. read more

If I could rate this hospital as a negative 5, I would. I worked as a nurse for the company for 1 year. Initially working was pleasant until I started getting bullied by a Hispanic older woman who worked as a patient tech. I was assaulted by this woman, slapped in the face while in a patients room. She how had expressed having feelings of jealously towards me to other employees. I went to the police and have an active police case against her. I reported the assault to managers. directors, ethics committee, human resources, and eventually the CNO and assistant CNO. No efforts to keep me safe from this employee were made. She stalked me while working and bragged to other employees about striking me in the face, right in front of me. She bragged about wanting to hit other employees like she had hit me. I was afraid to be at work because of this employee, I no longer parked in the parking garage or left my drinks unattended because of her. I felt I always had to look over my shoulder while working and became very paranoid. I begged the company to keep me safe from this woman, but they didn't care at all and made no efforts. She continued to work with me, stalking (which was confirmed by my manager), bullying, taunting and harassing me up until the day I was no longer with the company. Many sleepless nights and nightmares resulted from this incident. Several employees including registered nurses wrote statements describing the nastiness and cruel behavior displayed by the employee when encountering and engaging with her. There is even record of her striking and assaulting an elderly women with dementia. In addition to working in fear every shift, I was promised bonus pay to pick up shifts on days the floor was short of nurses. I was never given the bonus pay that I was promised. I spoke with HR and my director on countless occasions to receive my pay, but they always told me they were waiting for approval. I produced written confirmation of the bonus pay I was promised but they refused to pay me. HR eventually recognized my number from all my follow up calls from me wanting to get paid, and stopped answering my calls. I took pride in going above and beyond for patients and would fight for them when they felt the most vulnerable. I didn't deserve to be treated like this and dismissed like trash. They offered no accountability for those who bully in the work place. They offer no accountability for their staff who ASSAULTS employees and patients. I will never work for HCA again as long as I live. It truly breaks my heart to think of the way I was treated, because I simple didn't matter to them. I will forever be traumatized from this experience as I had high expectations for a company that had to regards for my commitments, funds, safety and mental health. This was my experience with HCA as a brand new nurse. read more

Can't move without knocking something ovet, machines the nurse brought in didn't work, bed didn't work, worst of all when sheet was unfolded there was a glob of something awful looking inside. If I could give negative stars, I would. I started at the standalone ER in Riverview and was transferred to this facility at 11:00 pm. Reason for the transfer was concern related to blurry vision after I fell off a ladder (and subsequently fractured two bones in my face). It is now 3:00 pm and I have been seen by a doctor once today, yet am still waiting on specialists. If there was such concern and requirement to remain in the hospital, I should have been seen by now. My only option is waiting until the specialists arrive this evening or checking myself out AMA. I have requested food several times, but provided none. I tried to shower, there is no hot water. The head nurse has not helped at all and has actually been quite combative (although Anne Marie and JyLyah have been lovely!). They did the same tests here as Riverview...and honestly this all feels like a money grab. If I'm saying I'm fine to be released and was cleared by PT and OT, I'm really at a loss of why I'm still sitting here ...very hungry read more

Okay, you tried your best to have me die with indignity through sheer mortification and hygiene denial awhile back, but I am still here. Still traumatized, but here. You'd think I'd learn. But then my husband ends up there and what do you do? Say a bunch of good sounding stuff and then send him off to nursing care with no mention of his conditions. Hello? Insulin? They had no idea he is diabetic. Don't feel too bad though: one of the nurses at the new place said, "Nobody looks at that stuff anyway, it's never right." ....and here I was scrambling to find some conduit of care for an immediate need. EVERYTHING was amazing, from food, organization of pre-op, attention to detail. On Saturday 08/19/23 I was at Blake Medical visiting Ms E. Harris along with her daughter, on the third room 336 when we encountered an issue with the Charge Nurse Vickie and her Aide Shatrunda if I am spelling it correctly, this was on the 3-11 shift.The Aide was changing Ms Harris another time when we witnessed Ms Harris complaing about how the Aide was hurting her and the Aide was yelling at Ms Harris and degrading her. As we did enter the room we both asked the Aide and the Charge nurse Vickie why were treating Ms Harris this way when she is 85 years old and cannot help herself. We then asked for a paper to write a grievance and Vickie refuse to grant our request and told us to write it on a piece of paper. This behavior should not be tolerate This will be reported to the elderly abuse if not dealt with immediately. read more

We were happy with the speed of care (X-ray) and the kind X-ray tech, as well as the RN who triaged. The reception desk was staffed with an unfriendly and apathetic woman and the insurance registrar was in that same category. It was an unsettling experience but nobody died. read more

In August of 2022 my husband, 82, diagnosed with Parkinson, was taken to this hospital by 911. I am his wife of 84 years old, married for 60 years. Even though he did not walk well, we did with him puzzles and sudoku, watched serials etc. I called the emergency, because he could not get up and I was not able to help him and he had history of mini strokes. I told so to emergency squad but they very quickly answered that they did not find stroke. When I went to the hospital I saw him laying down on the table naked squirmed from cold like a chicken taken from the freezer. I told them that I read how Nazi kept Jews before sending them to gas chamber. Immediately after that the sent some nurse to do so called assesment and dressed him warmly. Pneumonia they found in him did not surprise me. The other day they told me that he had no signs of covid and moved him to rehabilitation Casa Mora. I was with him and my caregiver there - they are my eye witnesses.The bed there was low but very narrow and I am not surprised he fell down from it. The lunch was standing on the table to which he could not walk and nobody even tried to feed him. It was all called. But that's does not matter. The most important is that he talked before this facility and when I took him home he did not talk and did not open his eyes. I believe he had a stroke which they missed. My caregivers and physical therapist can confirm it. In two days after the rehabilitation he died. Now I can tell all people I know to avoid this hospital. My first visit to Blake began in the ER due to a cardiac issue when I was playing pickleball at GT Bray. Joe, who helped me with intake steps was courteous and efficient. That pleasant introduction to Blake was followed by another positive meeting with Doctor Ritchie. She listened well, was reassuring and clearly committed to helping me navigate my ER experience. Next, I met Nurse Connor who collected parts of my medical history. Those welcoming and affirming moments continued with meeting and talking with Dr. McLane. She somehow found some food for me even though the kitchen was closed. We walked to an exam room where I stayed for the night under the care of Jesse, Bethany and Chelsea, nurses who went the extra mile to make my stay as comfortable as possible. After a rather interesting night, Kandi showed up mid morning to transport me, with the skill of sports car driver, from the first floor to the fourth floor room (several elevators were being repaired) where I stayed for the balance of my second day. In 420 B, LaRonda, Lindie, room management techs, Dr. Fritz, Dr, Behran, and Dr. Daniella Rodriguez and ECG tech, Gloria, were nothing short of amazing. Each was professional, efficient, and thorough. While I am not necessarily looking forward to returning to Blake during my 80th year, should that become necessary, I know I will be in responsible and competent hands. read more

My grandfather was admitted to Blake and received wonderful care; however, his body just wouldn't respond to recover, and he unfortunately had to be transferred to hospice where he passed away on Aug. 29th, 2022. We loved all of his doctors and nurses that took care of him! I do have to say we also had a gut-wrenching experience with Megan from Tidewell that works on-site at Blake. My grandfather suffered from severe anxiety for many years and Megan went to talk to my grandfather about him needing hospice while he was in dialysis... while he was ALONE! My grandmother and I were at the hospital with him every day but were not allowed to go with him during dialysis. It is truly heartbreaking knowing that he received that news without any of his loved ones around. My family did not know this happened and when we got into his room after he returned from dialysis, he was completely broken and crying. He had to sit alone with that information for hours getting his treatment. I cannot express enough how that never should have happened! Megan, I beg of you to please do better in the future... check with the family first! read more

On 1/23/18 I went to Blake medical at around 11am. I had another heart Stent put in at a Wisconsin hospital and my cardiologist Told me to go to emergency room if I had any problems. Unfortunately I went to Blake. Big mistake! I got there with heart pain and Short of breath & high blood pressure. After taking my blood and telling they would take another draw in 2 hours. Sent me to another waiting room. After 3 hrs, I asked why I didn't get the 2nd draw. Oops More issues there . Told I was going to be admitted for observation, wasn't told I would have to pay more for monitoring. Fast forward to next day Didn't see a doctor, had an echocardiogram no results given. I Finally said I am leaving. Left around 6pm. I let my regular cardiologist know went back To get all medical and discs from echo and mailed them. Still working on getting my bill reduced. My elderly father was recently a patient at Blake, his stay lasted 2.5 weeks. From the ER physicians and support staff to the Ward, and then Rehab, everyone we came in contact with was most professional, kind and above all, knowledgeable and efficient. He is now out and feeling like his old self! His hospitalists, specifically Dr. Daniella Rodrigues and Dr. Faiz were the very best. In Rehab, Dr. Tsai was truly amazing. We felt that they were family! The nurses, physical therapists and all supporting staff was simply outstanding. Thank you. read more

My mother came in due to being found unresponsive after having a blood sugar of 41 mg/dl. We arrived and a student nurse is attempting to start an IV. She didn't recheck the BS or acquire vital sign until a nurse approached to do it about 25 mins later. My mother is then sat in a hall and we have no idea who her nurse is or what the plan of care is. Like I stated before my mother is a diabetic so I approach the front desk and ask when the nurse for my mother is going to come and assist mind you this is about an hour later. The charge nurse responds to me and I quote, "she will be there we have other patients who need to be cared for" I'm a nurse so I already know all patients need to be cared for but what I was not okay with was the lack of equity, just because my mother wasn't as sick as the other patient doesn't mean she didn't need to be tended to. I was appalled because what if I had not been there would my mother have received a tray to eat, would her needs be addressed? The health care system is seriously crashing and now more than ever we need compassionate individuals not folks who are just looking for a check. read more

The burn, wound, & Laser clinic & hand & plastics center is RIDICULOUS !!!!!! If you set an appointment up don't be expecting to been seen until 3 hours or more. Also plan on having the WHOLE DAY OFF because these people taking their precious time!!!!! If your appointment is at 11:15 just know they love taking lunch at 12 on the dot and you won't be seen until 2-3 in the afternoon . This is no joke & im serious ! Take the day off lol read more
