I've lived in the area for several years and I have never encountered such a rude staff at any other liquor store. If you have a car, go to The Wine Gallery at Cyprus and Rt. 9 or take the T to their other location at Kenmore square. They will treat you like an actual human being. My main beef with Blanchards was that I was treated like a second-class citizen and like it was a real privilege to even be allowed to walk around in their store. When I checked out, the cashier looked like she was about 12, and she was obviously loving this newly acquired power she had over the customers. I understand that a large percentage of your clientle is college-aged, but I do not think that is justification for treating all customers as if they were kids trying to get away with something. When I approached the counter, the cashier asked for my ID. While I was getting my ID out, I asked her if she would be able to put my purchase on two separate cards, because I had recently been given a gift card. She shrugged her shoulders at me, looked annoyed that I had even asked and said, 'Uh, no, we don't do two cards!' When I asked if there was any way she could do this, instead of just being nice and apologizing, she repeated what she'd said to me already and looked at one of her co-workers and they both looked at me like I was an idiot for even asking. Feeling like I should justify my question - after being treated like an idiot - I pointed out that there are other stores that have this capability and that it was not an unreasonable thing to ask. The cashier looked at me and said, 'Oh, really? Like where?' So, I said, 'Like the grocery store-' and she interrupted me before I was able to say 'and your competition - other liquor stores in the area'. When she interrupted me she blurted out, 'Well, we're not a grocery store!' ZING! She then looked at her buddy co-worker and he repeated, 'Yeah, we're not a grocery store'. ZING! ZING! I felt like I was stuck in some dark corner of the blogosphere where angsty college-kids treat legitimate customers like crap and think it's appropriate to make a joke out of an every-day Joe's weekend trip to the store. I do not recommend Blanchards under any circumstances. There are too many other liquor stores within walking distance - some of them you can even see - for it to make any sense to give this place your business. read more

This is a good place with lots of selections, from beer to wine, to hard liquor. The price is fair, especially being in a college area, this is really not bad at all. There's also parking so you don't have to rush shopping for your booze, most places in the city don't offer you that. I don't think the customer service is as bad as some make it seem. It's a liquor store in a college, so you can't expect it to be some fantastic six star service where they pour wine for you to try and walk around with you. Most people already know what they want, come in, browse around, grab their drinks, and be done. So I don't expect much from a liquor place. I always end up finding exactly what I need here and they have never given me any trouble. One thing I do have to say is that they've put up some cement blocks to divide their lot from the public lot next to them. I have to say that was kind of a bad move because it creates inconvenience for those that are trying to access the public parking lot. When I come in to shop, I always have to wait in long line because those cement blocks are creating such a hazard! I understand that Blanchard's is probably sick and tired of people parking in their lot and not shop there, thinking it's a public lot. However, you can't create traffic just because of that. It really inconvenient the shoppers that are trying to park, as well as those that aren't shopping there but want to park next door! Blanchard's, you should remove those annoying blocks. read more

Customer service is DISGUSTING! I recently witnessed one employee make fun of a customer to another employee, before she even checked out! I don't know their names, but the Asian cashier chick was upset that she had to wait on some lady. I don't know why, because throughout the entire transaction, the lady was nice. However, the cashier was looking off, grunting when she spoke and just plain RUDE! This is not the first time I saw her rude to people. But ... she is very nice to either the college kids or the guys. So much so, that she is too busy talking, to do her job and get to the next customer. She seriously needs to be fired! I am not going back to Blanchard's and if I see that lady again, I will tell her what happened so that she won't either. And yea, I have told many people not to go there. WELL, I used to not mind this place. I would stop in to grab something if I was driving home, cause hey, they got a parking lot! I recycle all my empties here, and that's probably about all the business I will do with them from now on. I'm sure most Allston folk have seen or heard about the animal abuse that occurred here not too long ago. An employee posted YouTube video clip apparently details the owner crushing a beagle puppy in it's cage. Whatever the store behind it, they will not be seeing me standing in line again. KEGS KEGS KEGS. I support Blanchard's because of their access to quality keg beer. My roommates and I always have a keg of Tremont chilled in the refrigerator and ready for consumption all thanks to Blanchard's. And it doesn't get too much more convenient as it's a short walk from Harvard/Comm. Prices aren't the best but I pay for convenience and save on gas (I don't own a car - don't need one). I'm not a big wine drinker but have been told their wine selection is stellar. Don't crap on me if that's off base. read more

I used to come here all the time for my "party supplies" etc, but when that awful youtube video of the owner abusing his son's dog came to light, you can bet I'm going to head a block over to Marty's instead. The service here is usually rude and there is nothing amazing about it, just a convenient location. Walking an extra block won't kill me, and I shall do just that to prove a point. The staff is by far the worst. The scrutiny over IDs is ridiculous. They treat everyone as if you are a little teen trying to pull off a fake. They need to RELAX. It's the most annoying experience walking in there. Only go there if you are desperate. read more

Honestly, I think Marty's is cheaper, but this place is more roomy and probably more popular with the older crowd. The wine selection is better, and overall the prices aren't bad. read more

Great liquor store in a great location and has parking too. They had exactly what I was looking for.

It's a large liquor store, so it's got a good selection. Not much else to say really.
