I don't shop here that much but it seems like they have a bigger selection than Marty's down the street. Not the tidiest place but if you look pass that you can find pretty much all the booze type and brand that you're looking for - at least for the college crowd. VERY VERY VERY strict selling policy. I went to Blanchard to purchase beer/liquor for my birthday party with my Boyfriend (both of us are in our mid-20s) and left my 14 year old sister in the car so that there won't be any issues. Being that she was in eye-view of the cashier (even with all the balloons in the back seat with her) she asked that my sister also come inside and show ID (reminder: she's 14). They wouldn't sell me my party booze because she's not 21 and was in the car. This threw me off track and made me late to my own party! BOOOOO BLANCHARDS! read more

They are pretty strict with ID's but I think that is a good thing because of how many college kids in the area. Besides the hardcore security checkpoint with sniper tower in the front they have a great selection of booze and the staff members are friendly. The prices are competitive and their beer selection in particular is very solid. We have friends that live within walking distance of this place so we usually go there to load up on goodies before heading over. The store is clean and well organized so there is nothing to not be a fan of. I am a fan of Blanchard's for sure. read more

Problem is I was a customer. I bought tons of liquors from you for my bar tending lessons. Why was my car still towed?

While Blanchard's seems like a mega store full of booze in Boston, it's not my first stop when I need to buy some beverages. They have a very impressive array of spirits, beer and wine. If you're not sure what to get, you could easily get lost in the aisles but beware they will tow your car from the lot if you spend too much time here! Moving along, there is always an employee checking ID's at the door. This puzzles me because they still check ID's at the register. The other issue is the staff. Whenever I've been here, it looks as though the place is staffed well. BUT I don't think anyone who's worked here has ever asked me if I needed help finding something. Instead a fellow customer gave my friends and I a tequila tutorial. It all comes down to what you need. If you want someone to help you select the perfect wine for dinner party or a night in, head over to Trader Joe's but if you're just grabbing a case of beer and some vodka this place will definitely work. read more

Kegs, kegs, kegs. They took back kegs that no one else would. We had 2 kegs with no stickers or identifiable markings on them and they took them back for 20$ a piece. They were actually left behind at the place we just moved to, so we clearly bought another keg with that money. Anyways back to the real stuff this place is great the prices are much more reasonable then say bottled liquors and reservoir liquors who mainly jack up their prices because they bank on a lot of the BC kids not having cars or transportation to get them outside of that area for their booze. This place is also great for grabbing some quick nips before hitting up the surrounding bars, you know the game of saying your the DD and getting free soda to then season with delicious nips... don't claim you don't do it too. Have been coming here for years & have never run into an issue. There is ample parking & unless you are here on a Friday or Saturday night, the check out process is relatively quick. The beer selection is good & the prices are even better -- cheapest 12 pack in the neighborhood. read more

Blanchards, Yes. It's the closest place to Cambridge that sells kegs and at reasonable prices. They have a large selection of liquors and a smaller section of craft beers. Their wine staff is knowledgeable, but prices are higher than neighboring suburbs. Their is no competition in Allston for Liquor stores, so if you are here without a car, this is really the only place you can go for full alcohol selections. This store gets no stars from me (but I couldn't post without giving at least one). DON'T SHOP HERE! They don't care about their customers! My car was towed within a half an hour of being in the store and after spending $300 to boot. When I went back in to speak with the manager I was called a liar and treated deplorably. I was kicked off the premises and had to pay $129 to get my car back (plus a über trip to the impound lot). I am still in shock about the entire situation. Do not patronize this store. In fact, warn all your friends and families (and maybe even your enemies) about the unethical business practices and callous behavior of these people. They don't deserve to be in business. This really gets 5 stars for their enormous beer collection. And I'm not talking about the crap you find at your standard liquor store. These are quality local, national and huge selection of international beers. I can't go too often or I will probably end up broke. Every time I go, I practically start crying from happiness at the selection. It is a bit overwhelming, but I try to pick out beers I haven't had before. Ah! I knew I shouldn't have reviewed because now I want to go again! Wine selection seems slightly better than average. They have a decent selection of liquors, some that are familiar and some that aren't so familiar. But like I said, I only go for the beer. Also, the JP and Revere Blanchard's don't have quite this selection of beer. But I still wouldn't pass them up either. Also, I love their selection so much, that I'm willing to forgive their slightly inflated prices. Although it does make me miss the selection and incredibly good prices I paid in Michigan. read more

I've had a great experience with the local manager there which earns the five star ranking, Jeff went above and beyond to make sure I was happy at the end of the day. I thought the prices seemed high (about $1 more on everthing). I don't buy much beer these days, but I buy plenty of wine, and the selection here is large and excellent--better than at Brookline Liquor Mart, for one local example. The staff knows what they're talking about. I've seldom been disappointed by one of the discounted staff recommendations, They post helpful Parker numbers next to the wines. And now that Marty's is sadly gone, they've got the best prices in the neighborhood hands down. And their bourbons (my other vice) are well priced, too, though I wouldn't say they stocked a wide range. (The late great Marty's again.) Still, its very respectable. I purchased a can of that new alcoholic whipped cream, and it wouldn't come out of the can! They took it back and gave me a full refund with no hassle. They completely understood that this is a common problem with the manufacturer. However, I will say that it is annoying that when its busy, they card you when you ENTER the store, AS WELL AS when you pay. Why twice? Just card me once and be done with it. read more

This place has competitive prices and a good selection for the area. I found the strict ID checking a little excessive, even though I understand why they do it since there are so many college students in the area. I'm not sure the wall of fake IDs adds any classiness to the joint, though. Also, I was a little disappointed in the their selection of bitters (haha) and other specialty botanicals. Don't know why they've gotten so many 1-stars. I've always received good service. Employees have been somewhat knowledgeable (as much as a 23 year old can study about liquor). Prices are reasonable, some items are definitely marked up. They'll deliver a keg for you quick and easy. DO NOT SHOP HERE. I live (unfortunately, but , mercifully, just for the moment) in Allston and Blanchard's is conveniently located to my apartment. Yes, the hooch is cheap but not even that much cheaper than at any of the other boozeries in the area. They're rude, the owner apparently likes to jump on dogs and, oh yea, they stole my credit card number and used it for $4500 in France. I think the right word is skuzzy? Seriously, they card you at the door, they card you at the register and they give you guff both times. Spend an extra dollar for your dignity and your credit card and don't shop here. I have been shopping here for a long time now. I think a lot of the reviews are overly harsh, and not representative of the store. 8 times out of 10 Blanchard's has the best prices, and you can't beat the selection. They have everything, I usually come to buy my boyfriend's favorite craft beers - which by the way have recently made its way into a cooler to keep some cold! Occasionally another store might be cheaper by a few cents on an item, but I wouldn't even waste my time because I can never find everything I need. The last time I'll do a special order with these guys. Last two times they had no clue of the special release stuff I requested. I asked them to get me a case or as many as they could. When it came in they told me I could only have one because the stuff I told them about has now being asked for two months after I asked about it. When a place that doesn't have a clue screws you twice you don't go ever again which I won't. These guys don't deserve your business as they don't respect customers nor are they fair. read more

The wide variety of things they carry is nice, but the elevated security platform with all the monitors and getting ID'd twice makes me feel like I'm picking up booze at a guarded fortress.
