LOVE this place! I have super thick hair and was very nervous about finding a place for my wedding this past September. I went in for my trial with Laniesa and was so impressed at how my hair stayed curled the entire day. My makeup looked great too, aside from super thick hair I'm extremely fair skinned and was terrified I'd look like a clown with all the makeup on, but it looked so natural! My bridesmaids, flower girls, mom and mother in law all got our hair done here the day of the wedding and everyone loved the experience. I was in MN for a photoshoot and found Blast to be exceptional for the look I was going for. I had actually used them twice in the same week and was extremely satisfied with my experience and look both times. Selena was great in listening to my suggestions and visions. I could not be more happy with her work. She made sure I was satisfied and did not make me feel like I was rushed in and out. The only things that could use some work is the gift cards online system, which does not work, and forces you to call in. Also after I purchased a gift card, at both of my appointments the person collecting my payments could not find my gift card in the system. This caused for an unnecessary delay and an unnecessary use of an additional credit card. The girls were good about updating me on the issue and correction, but this should not have happened twice. read more

Had a regular blowout with TaShonta and it was great. My scheduled appointment started on time, the scalp massage during the shampoo was good, and my hair looked great. I went to Blast! Downtown to have my hair and makeup done for an engagement photo shoot with my fiance. I would definitely say that it was a pleasant experience. The decor was nice, the music was fun 90s pop, and the hair products were pleasant-smelling. I'm guessing that the overall quality of your experience depends on which stylist works with you. I LOVED my makeup artist. She did a flawless job, and explained certain makeup-y details to me (for example: cover concealer with a yellowish powder to look less tired). The hairstylist did a fine job, too, though I had one wonky section of hair that needed a little coaxing once I got home. I definitely felt that the experience at Blast helped make the photos feel even more special. read more

This was my worst experience ever with a dry bar. I booked my appointment online for the mall of america location because we were coming from Dallas for a wedding at the Radisson Blu. I booked my appointment for hair and a full makeup application and both were awful! I ended up paying 100 dollars. When I was finished and saw my friends they couldn't even tell anything was different from when I went in which really stinks after spending that money. I think both my hair and FULL makeup application took 30 minutes total to do. I felt the girl doing both was rushing and didn't even care. I don't even think the person I booked to be with online was the person I got. My full makeup was not what I was expecting....there was no contouring or anything special. She didn't even take off the makeup I had on previously or use primers. I did not even get any eyeliner or mascara....I was like are you kidding. . As soon as I was done I went back to my hotel room and had to do more makeup myself. My friend went to nordstrom for hers and it looked beautiful! I had another friend who went there too the same day and had a similar experience. None of my friends could believe I paid for it because it looked so plain! I would would have been better doing it myself. I have experienced great dry bars.....this is not one of them! I am not one to complain which is why I didn't speak up while at the salon but this was really really bad! I just wanted to get out of there! read more

I used Blast the last year. My stylist was amazing but the business was less than. Blast does not value their customers & customer service from Blast was not good. I was charged for two months of membership but not given my blowouts. I didn't report them to the BBB- but probably should have.Two of their stores have already closed in Woodbury & Mall of America. Some stylists are better than others, but almost all of them have been very rough while styling my hair, pulling on it hard and probably causing a lot of damage pulling out my hair. I usually just get a simple round brush blowout and sometimes they manage to screw that up so it doesn't look professionally done (the ends aren't as smooth as they should be- looks like I did it myself). The stylists aren't very friendly and seem to hate their jobs. I still tip decent but I'm not sure why for such lousy service. I have a gift card to use up and I might use it for products instead because of the bad service. read more

I wanted to try this place out to receive my first blowout. I was super excited about it! My friends and I went for one of our friend's birthdays. When we arrived the employees were not very friendly, they acted like they didn't want to be there. After my hair wash, I was waiting for my stylist to give me my blowout. She proceeded to blow dry my hair normally. She said my hair wouldn't hold a blowout. Very disappointed to say the least. Seemed like laziness on the stylists part. What a nice place! I'm on vacation in Minneapolis and flying home today I wanted to have a fresh blowout so I didn't have to do it tomorrow morning for work. I walked in and they took me right away, it wasn't busy because it was a Tuesday. Heather did a great job on my blowout. I got exactly what I wanted. Nothing fancy just a roller brush blowout. Locally in Los Angeles I go to Drybar periodically and this place was nearly the same, except they use regular name brand products which I think is a plus. I think some of the Drybar products leave something to be desired, but they have to use it because it's the house brand. Honestly this is a better blowout that I've had half the time at Drybar. I don't understand the low ratings... they did just fine. Something to keep in mind when you get a blowout simple is usually better! I think you run into problems when you start asking for fancy curls and waves, just something to note from experience. Go check them out, especially if you are staying at Aloft. I booked blowouts and makeup for a friend and I this past weekend and unfortunately we had a very bad experience. I should say that I was satisfied with my blowout (although my roots were flatter than I would have liked, the curls were gorgeous). My friend's style was ridiculous, and she was close to tears. After an hour and half of styling she was left with stringy limp hair that was loaded in product. She immediately had to wash her hair when we got home! I felt bad for her stylist because she obviously felt bad, but at the same time, she should be trained in how to properly use a curling iron (another stylist had to take over and recurl everything because she couldn't get it right). My main gripe was my makeup application. They advertise full face makeup for $35. I kid you not, my makeup was done in less than 5 minutes! It consisted of liquid foundation, blush, eyeshadow, and mascara. That's it! When she was done I looked in the mirror and I had to ask for concealer, eyeliner, and LIPSTICK! There was also no moisturizer, face or eyelid primer, contouring, highlighting, curling of lashes, or finishing powder. She had a ton of products to choose from so I don't know why she didn't use them. I thought it was a joke when she said she done and asked if I liked it. The eyeshadow was very unflattering to my skin tone (she chose a shiny copper/bronze and I have very fair skin), I had a visible line where the foundation stopped, and when I asked for eyeliner, she applied some and there was a clear gap between my lash line and the eyeliner! I pointed it out and she filled it in. After having her "fix" a few more things I gave up and just wanted to get out of there so I could wash it all off. They gave me $5 off each service because they could tell I was unhappy...but wow, I still can't believe I paid for that makeup! I could tell that the man running the place was embarrassed and felt bad for us because he kept apologizing, but there is no way we should have been asked to pay for that. I still love the concept of a blowdry bar, but I will read reviews first! Thankfully I didn't have a wedding or somewhere to be right after! At least we have a funny story that came out of this, and hopefully whoever reads this will save themselves the trouble and find a different place! read more

I've gone here a total of 5 times now for a blowout and the first two times left with AMAZING results. I felt like I received exactly what they were claiming to offer - a fantastic blowout experience with great volume and, for me exactly what I asked for, round soft curls. The best part - I had a hair style that continued to look great for another two days. After those first two experiences, I was HOOKED and started telling all of my friends about it. I've returned three times since then and am so sad to say that I left each of those times extremely disappointed. At first I thought it was a fluke and maybe I had just gotten a new and very "green" stylist. I basically had my hair washed, dried and then curled with an iron. I decided to give it another try and this 4th time wasn't any better - possibly worse as the stylist barely greeted me and looked at the style I had chosen for maybe a nanosecond before she quickly ushered me in for my wash. Wash was fine enough, but she put off this vibe like she really did not want to be there or could care less about styling my hair. This time again, the process was the same - dry hair, hardly any round brushing then curl with iron. Top near my crown was really flat and then I practically had spiral curls halfway down my hair. I asked her to add volume and to try fixing it - but quickly realized she just wan't skilled enough and didn't know what she was doing. Frustrated, I told her just to leave it the way it was and left. I ended up going home, showering, and did better with my own hairdryer and curling. So . . . this is where I am a complete idiot because . . . . I decided to go back for a 5th time! I was just hoping against all hope that maybe I could find that same experience I had the first two times. Short story - no. Same thing happened: lackluster service, wash, dry with blow dryer - hardly any round brushing and then curling iron. Left with same flat hair and some curls hanging halfway down my hair. I don't know what has happened since my first two experiences here. The first two times my hair was styled completely with just the hairdryer and round brush. I LOVED it! In fact, both stylists each time said that is exactly what the blowout should be like and that a curling iron should hardly ever be used. It seems like now all they have are "stylists" who are extremely inexperienced, have no prior training and, iI am pretty certain that any one of my girlfriends can do a better job. I'm so disappointed. Having been to dry bars on east and west coast - I thought I had found something good here in MN. Sadly, I will no longer be returning. read more

I've never had a blow-out before but decided to try this place out since it was on my way home from work and was offering a groupon. I usually style my hair with a blow dryer and was expecting my waves/curls to come from the actual blowout but all my curls were created using the curling iron. It looked nice for the night and looked good for 3 days afterwards, but all the heat on my scalp was a bit irritating and my hair, being dry already, did not mesh well with the application of hot tools and not enough product. It was okay for my Valentine's date, but I don't think I will go back based on the damage to my hair that was done. read more

I have been to the Aloft location twice. The first time I was disappointed with the results because I asked for big, soft curls, and the woman used too small of a curling iron. I ended up looking like a pageant contestant. I received a gift card, which is why I went back. I saw Lenisha (spelling?) and I loved her. I've been a customer of Blast on Washington Avenue since the summer of 2015. I had a great experience whether I choose to have the full blowout or just the retouch, which is not the shampoo. I read a lot of complaints but I think it's an individual experience. For me, I really appreciate they are open as early as 7 AM as that's the time that a lot of business women get their hair done and head to meetings downtown. I had a regular gal that did my hair but she left the company and now I work with Alexis. Experience is just fine but you need to use your voice and tell them what you need. Make sure you talk about where your part is, talk about if you need your roots lifted up, tell them if you want your hair curled or flat ironed. The experience gets even better, as they always have Groupons you can buy that are worth a lot more than what you pay for them. My personal favorite is to buy the three month membership, which allows me six services over three months including haircuts, waxing, and blowouts (and the best part is you can purchase this particular groupon up to three times). I find the salon to be inviting, cool in temp, modern, clean and the staff are always friendly. It's super easy to book the appointment online but don't forget there's a 12 hour advance cancellation policy. read more

I am in love with this place. I tried it out with a Groupon. I am so glad. I have had two stylists but Shushan is the ultimate best. I have very damaged bleach and toned hair. By the time I leave her chair my hair is healthy and looks like it hasn't been damaged at all. Its like magic. She has a great personality and is so nice. I love her mix of talking and then being quiet. I really enjoy blowouts to me they are so relaxing and I would pick a blow out any day over a massage. Shushan has some magic hands to turn my unruly damaged hair into shiny bouncy healthy beautiful hair. I am going weekly now and plan to purchase the monthly package on my next visit. The shop has very nice , inviting employees who are friendly and go out of their way to be welcoming to you as you enter and leave. The salon is kept very clean and they have some wonderful products for sale. They are not pushy about trying to get you to buy products either. I love this place and will keep going. read more

I came into blast for blow out and the stylist was not there. She had another stylist tell me she was not coming. I asked to speak with her and she said there was a "system error" and I should not have been able to book my appointment online since she wasn't available. Then she proceeded to tell me that she would not have been able to do my natural hair in the time allotted any way. Wait...so now your apology for a fake system error turns into shaming my hair texture. WOW. How about just say sorry what can we do to make this up. Be honest that you weren't feeling well and didn't want to come in and didn't update your status in your system in a timely manner. Don't turn around and blame me. It's unprofessional, disrespectful, and makes you look arrogant. I actually needed my hair done today for an important presentation. The last minute cancellation was frustration enough but you added insult to injury with how you handle this. I will never go back here. I went for a Bridal Consultation and it was terrible. The hair stylist didn't do what I had wanted and she said you can worry about getting it right when you come back for the wedding. She then curled my hair, which that looked nice (for my evening out but not for my wedding day). Make up. OMG. Okay first i had to tell the Sylist that part of this wedding pakage i was paying for inlcuded make up. She kept saying you are done. Then she had to find her (she was out smoking) when she came in, she did someone else and I had to wait the whole time. When i finally got to see her.. she took about 2 minutes, no foundation, no lipstick. I got the airbrush and I looked hideous!! She told me that it needed to set. I got home and there was blotches all over me.. patches where you could see the line. I had to wash the entire thing off and do it myself for my evening back. I will never go back here. A friend and I made appointments here before a wedding downtown. Since I work with most of the people at the wedding, I wanted a hair style that was a bit different and special. My shampoo was good and included a good massage. But from there is where it all kinda went downhill. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, which makes holding a curl difficult. I described to my stylist what I do in my normal routine to help it hold body and some curl. She didn't listen to any of that and clearly just went about her basic training to do a blowout. I ended up with hair that was somehow flatter and limper than my daily basis. But my friend had the real joke of an experience. Starting with her shampoo, where she got water sprayed IN her eyes multiple times and ended up with a shirt collar dripping wet. I then watched as her stylist was more interested in choosing the next song to play than on her client. Including some moments where she held the blowdryer straight at my friend's forehead while looking at her phone. Not to mention the fact that my friend arrived about 10 minutes after I started and finished about 15 minutes before me. This was my first dry bar experience, and I'm pretty sure I won't waste the money again. read more

I arrived early for my appointment and decided to go get some coffee. When I came back they were able to get me in early. The woman who washed my hair did it very hurriedly. After I sat back down she mentioned that somebody's car was getting towed. It was mine! I ran out to the Parkin lot and was told they saw me walk off. I literally had been gone 15 minutes. I was so humiliated after I came back in. I regret now that I just didn't walk out. I was offered some "coupons" on future visits. My friend and I were at the SLP location last night, it was the worst! Not worth the time or money! Full make up application was terrible, no glam or glitz. Skip it and do your own make up at home. The mascara was in green and pink tube you can buy at Target. Appt was at 4pm, they started my friend at 4:45! Our hair was flat and stick straight with no curl or life within 2 hours!! I wouldn't recommend going here. A group of us went to get our hair done for my sister's bachelorette party at the Mall Of America location. We all got the "Refresh My Look." The 2 people working were very crabby, not talkative at all and acted like they didn't want to be there. There were 5 of us that got our hair done, 3 of the 5 of us said their hair will hold for days if they didn't wash it...all of our hair fell out within a few hours. When we were asked how we liked our hair, we had all asked for more hairspray; their reply was, "There is enough in there already..." While getting my hair done, the lady burned my head! (See picture) I still have a sore, blistered spot where she burned me! 2 members of our group had asked for some of their hair get pulled away from their face, one was told it would an additional $10 to put a tiny braid in her hair and the other just didn't get to have anything. The person never even attempted to pull anything up the workers obviously don't know how to listen to anything the paying customer wants. All of us said it was not worth the time and money, so I wouldn't waste yours either! read more

I went to the Woodbury location for the bridal package which included a trial airbrush service. The eyelashes were popping off within a couple of hours and my face was shiny, there is no way this would have lasted ALL DAY. I had to call twice for a refund. At first they would only refund me the difference of an airbrush application ($40), once I expressed my concerns, I received the remaining refund ($60) and was promptly hung up on. I am not impressed with any of their services, being hung up on is very rude and disrespectful. Bride's save your time, energy and money and go somewhere else!! read more
