This salon was recommended to me by a friend and I'm so glad I finally made an appointment. Tracy was recommended to me by my friend and wow, she really listened to me and I got exactly what I was hoping for: a light cleanup of too many haphazard layers from a different stylist at a different salon (the irony here is that I had gone to this other salon to fix an even more botched up haircut from a totally different salon!). Anyway, two haircuts with Tracy and I seriously cannot say enough positive things about her. I went shorter the second time to even out the layers and the result was a super cute bob. Sassy! I love how she suggested going slowly with the length but I was like, "Nope, cut it shorter" lol. She was game and I loved it. Heading back again soon. Excited. The salon is adorable. Check out the paper lanterns hanging toward the back. Sculptural and pretty. All the stylists are fun. And...if you are in to non-alcoholic libations, walk through to the other side to browse a huge selection. Oh, first appointment was in late winter and parking can be a bit challenging when there is a ton of snow and you have to walk across ice. So that's the only pain point. I've been to Honeycomb a number of times over the last 8 years. After moving back to Minneapolis again, I'm glad as they're still as charming as I remember. Great decor and has a very boutique vibe. Always very welcoming. They even offered me sparking water! I was desperate to get a previously bad bob fixed up, and it was my first appt with Erin. She was very personable and took the time to understand what I was looking for while understanding my hair type. Loved the cut. Bit pricey for Minneapolis @ $77, but you definitely get what you pay for. Also I found out she was the owner of the salon. She straightened my hair to give me a dry cut with a wash after. I have been seeing Danielle at Honeycomb Salon for over three years and have loved every haircut that I have gotten there. Danielle really knows what she is doing. I am always complemented on my haircuts and also find that they grow out much better than past cuts I have had at other salons. In addition, Danielle does not try and sell you products like other stylists but, every product she has ever recommended to me has ended up being one of my favorite products purchased. Honeycpmb is dangerously located close to a lot of really good restaurants that might tempt you to take your fancy new do for a night on the town! So I followed Danielle, my very awesome hair stylist, from Sweeney Todd's to Honeycomb about a year ago. She gets 5 Stars and is still worth spending two hours on the bus each way for my haircuts. I would still go to her if she worked out of a dark, dank basement. Luckily Honeycomb is a super cute salon. It is bright and airy and they sell fancy products and always play great music. They also offer complimentary Bit-O-Honey candies and tea, wine, and beer. My main/only gripe with the salon is that there is only one bathroom stall (which may be shared with the business next door) and it has horrible dim lighting and a strangely "foggy" mirror. Older reviews state that payment in cash or check only are accepted, but this is no longer the case. I pay with a card every time. But they use Square, so you don't get a hard copy receipt. Some other reviews also comment on pricing... I am fairly certain that each stylist sets their own prices, so you can shop around if price is your biggest factor. If you book online it tells you up front how much a service is with a particular stylist. I love the convenience of booking online, and that I get email confirmations and reminders. Honeycomb is next door to a tavern (Pat's Tap), a vintage clothing store, and something else in the building, and there is a restaurant (Hola Arepa) across the street. I like to go up the street to Five Watt Coffee before my appointments. That area around Nicollet & 38th has its own cluster of bars, restaurants, salons, and other businesses. What a place. I was in the market for a new stylist and it didn't take long after my first visit to fall in love with this place. My stylist is Emily and she is fantastic. She was very accommodating, kind, a great listener and patient. She took the time to figure out what style would look best and she did a really great job of keeping a light-hearted conversation going. As a part of Honeycomb (or maybe sharing a roof with it, rather) is "Marigold" a non-alcoholic drink shop. It was really cute, a nice selection, and there's a little bar area to hangout at and try tastes of things. They also have THC drinks (actual delta 9) in 5-12mg amounts. It was fun to feel like I could think about my drinking differently--the selection ranges from a non-alcohol gin or absinthe to a blueberry fizzy soda. It's on the pricey side, but for me it was worth it to try something new, delicious, and (for me) a step in the right direction for my health. I went here to get a much needed cut/style for my medium length hair. I've been working on growing it out for a while - doing my own trims because I'm cheap. Usually, when I go to a new salon, the person who cuts my hair asks what I typically do with my hair, what kind of time I have, etc. I was surprised that I wasn't asked this. I told the stylist what I was interested in - something nice, but not face-framed (way too much of that in my past). My haircut turned out fine, not too short or strange, but the two things she told me I could do with my hair, were totally things that I would never do - not me, not my style. Like most Yelpers, I read the amazing reviews about Sarah so I decided to book a hair cut with her. My hair was extremely long; almost down to my booty. I requested a simple trim with layers to help get rid of my damaged ends. Mind you, I like Sarah, I really really do. She was very nice and had a sweet smile on her face the entire time. BUT, she chopped my hair off. Not literally but to the point where I almost had to choke back a few tears. My hair is now about mid-back length. Which to me, is an awkward length; not too long and not too short. But too short for me! Sarah knew she chopped off too much, she even said so. But I'm not one to make a fuss about it because its not like I can pick my hair up off the floor and glue it back on. Whats done is done. Furthermore, my cut and layers were a bit choppy. I gave her simple instructions and I have NO idea what she did. I watched her masacre my hair and b/c I believe that you can't judge something until the end I didn't say anything. I left crying with the most horrid hair cut of my life. It is a short style...so you can't have one side longer than the other. I never anticipated I'd give a wax experience five stars, but my wax at Honeycomb Salon was as good as waxing gets! I was offered a beverage (which I never take because I'm a freak and have some weird fear about "WHERE WILL I PUT THE CUP WHEN I'M DONE? BEST Brazilian wax I've EVER had.. Thank you, Daniella Mendez! I recently moved to Minnesota from Michigan and was in the market for a new Esthetician. I enjoy getting a Brazilian wax once a month, so finding the right place, with the right staff, at the right price was paramount to my decision making. I chose Honeycomb Salon based on other Yelp reviews and booked my first appointment with Daniella Mendez on 05/20/2014. Daniella is such a gem! I felt extremely comfortable with her the entire time and absolutely LOVED the immaculate results she produced. Trust me when I say, not one single hair was left behind, front to back! I was SO pleased with my experience, as well as the affordability and overall value of their prices, that I've already booked my maintenance wax for June 17th! I'm an experienced waxer, so there was absolutely no pain or awkwardness for me, but I can assure you that even a "virgin" waxer would be completely at ease here. Daniella is meticulous in her techniques and did not rush the procedure at all. She even applied a layer of Finipil to my skin post wax, to insure against rapid regrowth and irritation, and provided me with my own 2-3 day supply packet for my at home after care regimen. When one gets alerted 36 hours before one is to meet the Once and Future President face to face, there are certain things that become priorities. Dry cleaning, for example. And getting a haircut. NOW. I frantically called two of my regular places but to no avail- so went onto Honeycomb's website and VOILA- you can actually schedule an appointment online. Bingo. The space is gorgeous and well-designed. The waiting area was full of arty zines and interesting design and fashion magazines which I always appreciate. The lady at the front desk was very nice and hooked me up with tea right away. I ended up getting my hair cut with Melissa, who did an OK job. It's not my favorite haircut- even three days in it still looks kind of awkward and there's something slightly 1950's school girl about it. I don't think I would go out of my way to go back, because $42 (with tip) is an expensive meh haircut, but it was clutch in a pinch! I do my research, and this is a good deal in the Twin Cities. The vibe of the place was adorable, I'd like to take up residence there. I met with Daniella, and she put me at ease. She talked to me the whole time, distracting me from the pain and humilitiation I was experiencing down below. She had great tips for after-care too. I would really recommend this place. I just wanted to update my review. I lied and didn't go back from my last wax until December :( HOWEVER I've faithfully gone in monthly since then. Per hubby's request I've upgraded to the full Brazilian, and since he's paying for it I'm not complaining. Anne Marie is still awesome and we always have a good time swapping stories. I'm in and out in about 20 minutes or so, which is great as it means I can come here during my work lunch break. A couple things to note: they did bump up their waxing prices. What used to be $30ish is now $45. Considering how inexpensive that was compared to other places (and it's still a great deal) that's fine with me. Also since my last review, you can now schedule your waxing appts online - these were one of the few services you used to have to call in. I save myself the effort though and just book my next appointment now when I'm paying for my previous. And yes, they do take credit cards! As a diver who spends a lot of time half naked in front of a bunch of dudes, it's good to know I won't have any hair-mistakes to embarrass me ;) read more

Having heard other great Yelp reviews about blondes having great experiences here, I too had a fabulous experience with Emily. After checking out each stylist's prices online, Emily seemed the most affordable considering all of the services I would need. Wanting to go incredibly blonde (I told her I wanted the Khaleesi blonde---A+ for everyone who knows who Khaleesi is) and walked away extremely satisfied with the color. Emily was very honest and combined my wants with her best judgement of what would not only look best for me, but what would realistically work best for my hair. Emily was incredibly sweet, and definitely the *most* proficient, funny, relaxing, and enjoyable stylist to share the 2 hour coloring process with. Emily asked if I wore my hair up very often, to which I said yes, and made sure to perfect the color at the bottom of my hairline--something no other stylist had ever bothered to concern themselves with in my previous experiences. She also made the brush-out process after the wash tolerable, understanding the life of a girl with thick, thick, THICK hair and to NOT use a thin comb like I've been accustomed to. The trim I wanted was shorter than desired, but at least she told me straight up how much she wanted to take off, as opposed to other stylists who hack off your hair without notifying you how much they actually plan on taking off. Straight forwardness and practicality in a stylist is something every girl who is serious about the care of her locks should deeply respect. And Emily has that respect. Honeycomb itself as an established is stunning. It has a very cozy modern/urban appeal to it. All in all, if you want a stylist who knows her, ahem, *shit* when it comes to coloring and styling, while also saving you from having to pay the more expensive costs of the other two stylists, Emily is your woman. My curly haired mom has been going to Amanda - following her from one salon to the next - for ages, so I finally gave in and made the journey to Honeycomb. It'd been a while since I'd gone to Amanda and I wasn't disappointed, she knows exactly what to do with my curly hair. I came in with super long and heavy layers, what I called my "puppy dog ears", and she trimmed them up into adorable layers. It was renewing! She Deva cuts, and I got it cut dry without a wash (my preference, because no salon knows how to style my hair curly and that's just a fact) - because of this, I did return after I washed it because a layer needed attention. But no worries, Amanda did a little snip snip retouch and I was sent away in 5 minutes with the best hair I've had in ages. Sweet, upbeat and awesome salon! And I found it on Yelp, too! I went in for a cut/color from Sarah and an eyebrow dye from Daniella. Just to give you some perspective, this is the first non-Great-Clips hair cut I've had in 15 years. So not only did I not know where to go, but I wasn't really sure what I was going for, other than something that wasn't too different from the hair I've currently got, but updated for my age and the current decade - and please cover the greys. Sarah was super nice and friendly as was everyone else in this sweet, clean, awesome salon! I couldn't be more pleased! The color looks outstanding - like mine, but a little better and the cut was near perfect! I say near because after Sarah cut it, I told her it looked a tiny bit too intense and had her cut back the front a little bit - and now I kind of wish I hadn't done that, because I dry it pouf-ier than she did, so now it looks a tiny bit short - but this is 100% my own fault. Emily Angelo used to rock it out at Fox Den. When she mysteriously disappeared from their roster, I was at a complete loss. I spent almost 2 years hopping from chair to chair trying to find that special mix of talent, confidence, and flavor that Emily provided, with no luck. Little did I know that she was buzzing away at the Honeycomb the whole time! Emily has always been a comfortable, laid back presence and an honest hair partner. She listens to what I want - whether it's a specific picture or a general idea - and she mixes it with what will ultimately look best on me. She knows how to make funky doable, and how to make more "classic" styles just the right amount of edgy. She knows how to walk those lines and can comfortably exist at either end of the spectrum! If you're looking for someone to chat your ear off, look elsewhere! Emily is chatty enough, but I don't feel like I'm being interviewed by the local morning news team, as I do with some other "friendly" stylists. She lets the convo flow where it needs to and spends more time focusing on your cut than on your life. She has helped me grow my hair out gracefully after I shaved my head, and she helped me chop it all off again when I got sick of it. She has given me a soft and natural looking perm that scared the last bit of poodle-head back into the 80s. And she's helped me work with my naturally straight hair by cutting it to have more texture and movement. She is great with naturally curly hair, as well as fine hair like mine. If you're still salon hopping, or just looking for someone new, head on over to Honeycomb and let Emily help you out! She's my absolute favorite, and I am so glad that I found her again. The convenience of Honeycomb's online booking means that at 11pm on a Wednesday night when you are just absolutely DONE with your hair, you can comfortably make an appointment in your pajamas. Honeycomb is getting pretty popular, so expect you might have to make appointments 3-5 days out, but know that there are those odd moments when you can literally get a same day appointment. The staff at Honeycomb is also really friendly, so if the phone is your thing, go right ahead! Additionally, I once accidentally emailed them for an appointment, and they answered! Super props for being responsive, Honeycomb! The absolute only downside is that Emily only accepts cash or check. So just bring your "rent-payer" aka checkbook or stop at the ATM beforehand. This is a salon where each stylist rents her own chair. So things can vary quite a bit (price-wise and everything else-wise) from stylist to stylist by a lot. They all seem like a talented bunch, though, judging on what I saw while I was there. That being said, Emily did a great job on my hair-color. She was prompt and not intimidated by my mass amounts of hair. She was good at setting realistic expectations (I want to go back to very, very red hair, but I had dark brown plus about 2inches of regrowth going on). She also tackled my blow-out with enthusiasm. I had been putting off a haircut for months before I finally scheduled time with Sarah (based on her excellent reviews here!). I am usually fairly non-specific in what I ask for when getting a haircut, mostly because I like to see what a hairstylist will do without prompting. I usually just tell them that my hair is very thick so I need it thinned out a lot otherwise it gets heavy. Sarah listened to me and then asked "How do you style it usually?" ... to which I replied...."um. i wake up and i brush it" **AND THIS IS WHEN I KNEW THAT I HAD COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE** - to which she says "Oh yeah, me too. Look at my hair, you can tell that I slept on it." !! !! She proceeds to give me a razored layered cut that looks fabulous no matter what I do to it. I mean, seriously, I'll go into work having only run a comb through it and people will tell me they love my hair. I even had discussed the possibility of bangs but in the end decided that I wasn't ready. She suggested that I come in for a bang trim if I change my mind (for free! no reservation needed!) seriously, i love my hair now and I'll definitely go back... just know that you should come armed with cash! read more

I got my hair colored (bleach/tone technically) with Danielle. It was pretty reasonable in price ($90 + tip) and she was efficient and nice. A little rough while combing it out after a wash (and I'm used to tugging a brush through tangled hair!). It turned out differently than I had hoped, but my hair was in quite a state - uneven color, overgrown roots - so overall it turned out well. The salon is cute and airy, and the online appointment scheduling is definitely a plus. I felt a bit out of place not being stylish and slim, but their clientele are a little more diverse. It had been at least two years since I received a Brazilian wax so I was very nervous about finding a new esthetician to do the deed. I had previously been treated by a wonderful and painless esthetician who had to move out of the state. However, shaving has just become way too much of a nuisance for me and my skin. She is a master of her craft and considering I have been shaving for the past two years I barely felt a thing, nothing was left behind and no sensitivity resulted. Decided I needed a haircut, and instinctively went to book an appointment at Rocco Altobelli. Then decided to check yelp. I am so glad I did! Sarah is awesome! I have just started a new job and am the youngest person in my office. I wanted a haircut that would be professional but wouldn't sacrifice my personality. Sarah gave me an awesome haircut that has also stood the test of time - it's been a couple of months now and it still looks great! This place definitely has a hipster vibe - after reading the other reviews on yelp I didn't quite get that impression and brought my mom.
