This hair spot is on the corner at 331 and doesn't have a sign that says blast but it's right out there next to a cute eatery and it's up some stairs. It doesn't look like the pictures i see here on yelp at all. To my surprise it was pretty empty. Inside was a lady who told me I was in the right spot. I was greeted politely by the front desk lady and Toni. I sat down and offered a water. It's a cute little spot. Toni was the best part tho. She was warm and friendly and funny. She did most of the talking but I had told her via an email appointment what I wanted and when she turned I was amazed. She did this cool zig zag curls with the flat iron and she put a lot of spray on that will hopefully keep my hair but yet it feels soft. She also put lashes on me For not much. We will see if they last but I loved the experience and loved the look at the end. I totally recommend this place and Toni! I'm glad I didn't base my appointment from help Reviews because this visit was great and I will totally go back if I am back in MSP for something. Thanks Toni! I get a yearly Brazilian blowout to help tame my long hair for a reprieve. They are one of the last places to still have the original Brazilian blow out formula and not the zero(which does nothing for my hair). There is usually a Groupon available for the blow outs or the Brazilian blowouts. Honestly once my hair gets past my shoulders I'm to lazy to do anything more than air dry so if there is an occasion I need to get ready for there is a high likelihood that I'll be going to blast for my hair. The only down side is that the makeup application on a brown person such as myself did not go well. Came here and on a Saturday and made my appointment the morning of, despite it being a busy day. I was in town for a wedding and although it was raining, I wanted to get my curly hair straightened. I didn't know with whom I would end up and when my name I was called and I looked up at who it was, I knew I was in good hands. I thought twice about paying this much outside of Chicago - typically everything is more expensive there. But I wanted to give the place a shot. I really wanted to like this place. Really. But it was a subpar experience. Definitely not worth $35. The decor was chic - white everywhere, pretty chandeliers, clean lines, etc. The man at the front desk (not sure if he was owner/manager?) happily greeted me when I walked in. I was early so I had no problem waiting. However 5 minutes past my appointment time, I was still waiting. He reassured me my stylist would be with me shortly. 15 more minutes pass and nothing. Finally he told me he would get me started by shampooing my hair. I found this confusing because there were 3 stylists standing around doing nothing while I was waiting for someone - anyone - to start my appointment. I don't know if he typically does the shampooing but it was pretty lackluster. My stylist was nice. Not overly talkative, which I like. She blow dried my hair and proceeded to start curling it. I thought this was extremely odd because at no point did she add any product before blowdrying, curling, etc. All I got was hairspray at the end. This explained why my hair, which normally holds a curl very well, fell fairly early in the evening. I was very disappointed with my experience at Blast. Management was poor and no one seemed to know who was doing whose hair. And using product for a blow out seems like it would be Styling 101. If I were in town and wanted a blow out again, I would definitely try another spot. read more

We had an appointment for three of us...you would expect they would set us up all together to Share and enjoy the experience but no. I went first because the lady said the my hair would had take less time. She was obviously in a rush to get out of there and when I mentioned I wanted waves she was not thrilled with the idea. She worked super fast and pulled my hair multiple times. I have curly hair, before you do anything, you need to brush and untangle! My friend said her stylist was rude too, and she kept pulling her hair. My other friend had the nicest lady ever: she took her time doing her do, and did a marvelous job. I was completely underwhelmed by the whole experience. Overall, the salon didn't seem organized or professional. There wasn't a dedicated receptionist. The salon wasn't very clean - when I went to sit down there was hair all over the chair, and the floor, walls, and furniture seemed dirty. The stations weren't very neat either, and my stylist kept walking around to different areas to get products. Also, the air conditioner was broken, and being a hot and humid summer day - not the best for getting your hair done. I booked online with a certain stylist, and when I showed up I had a different person do my hair - which is fine, but not a great way to set expectations. When I sat down she asked me what I wanted, and I had never gotten a blowout before so I just sort of explained a style - but I never saw a menu of different styles and she didn't really talk about different options. I guess their menu of styles doesn't mean anything. My stylist wasn't very talkative, but she also seemed totally disinterested, and at one point yelled at me out of nowhere "where do you part?!" At first I wasn't sure what she said, and the stylist next to me turned around and said "huh?" because she thought she was talking to her. But then my stylist yelled "excuse me! where do you part your hair?!" The other stylist was like, "oh I thought you were talking to me, haha." It was really weird and awkward. When she was done she asked me if I wanted hairspray (which she had to go walk around to get). Really? Um, yes, I want this style to last all day. I went to Blast in the Mill City District because I wanted to treat myself before going out for my birthday dinner. I chose Blast because they were able to fit me in last minute on the weekend. I got a blowout and before we got started my stylist gave me a wash and scalp massage which was awesome. I was really happy with all the Moroccan Oil products my stylist used which smelled amazing and really gave me a light hold with shiny finish. My hair looked absolutely amazing for the dinner and the next day too. I would return for another special ocassion, but I not regularly as the price seemed high at $40 for a blowout. I guess I had expectations of an experience similar to my hair salon since I don't consider $40 for a half hour to be a "bargain". It started with the bored receptionist who checked me in and pointed for me to sit down in an area that was darker than the rest of the place. The woman who came to get me simply said my name, didn't introduce herself, didn't make small talk. I don't need someone to become my best friend but a smile and feeling welcome certainly goes a long way. Washed my hair, wrapped it in a towel and sent me to the chair. Asked me what I wanted and got to work. I have naturally curly hair, starting with a comb to brush out the tangles would have been helpful and made the experience a little nicer. She round brushed, put in a few curling iron curls and I was out of the door in 30 minutes with a hairstyle I could have done myself, it just would have taken me a little longer. Checked out with the same bored receptionist who didn't speak I had to ask, "am I done?" and she nodded, maybe she had laryngitis? I had heard stories of how your hair holds the style for a couple of days. I would have been happy with a couple of hours! One side of my hair went straight almost immediately and had to be fixed with my own iron. Long story short, I'd only go back if I had NO time to do my own hair. I am a frequent of Dry Bar salons in other cities, but decided to try Blast while I was in Minne for a wedding. I thought the salon was super cute and trendy, very clean, had nice music, and a good atmosphere overall. I also really liked my stylist Selena - very friendly and helpful, and willing to tame my long, thick mane! The appointment did take longer than quoted but I'm pretty sure that's due to my massive hair. All said and done, it probably took me about an hour for the wash, dry, and style. Bonus points to the salon for using really great quality products, and providing "no dent" elastics as you leave. :) read more

I'll follow up when I actually get my service, but my initial contact was substandard. If you are trying to book a Brazilian Blowout online- forget it. It doesn't work. The booking online has a time slot set for 3 hours which might be part of the problem. When I called the gal on the line today, said the service is 90 minutes to 2 hours, which sounds right. Turns out it's a known issue that the shop has complained to the owners about, but they haven't done anything. The girl on the phone is apparently so sick of hearing people complain she's turning her tired frustration into a calcification and coldness towards people who report the problem. You are the sole human face of my experience with your shop so far, and you left me with a bad impression. So let me give you some (golden rule) customer service verbiage: "I am SO SORRY that you are having trouble with our online booking! You are not the only person that has had this problem. We've reported it to the owners and they are working on it! Now, let's not waste any more of your time- when would you like to come in? Or, would you like to me to give you the first available times? Thanks for calling and sticking with us!" The second issue is that the site only searches ONE DAY AT A TIME, leading to an inordinate amount of time trying to find an appointment. I recommend to the owners to check out Hairpolice's booking site. You can search on service or stylist and it shows a calendar that reflects available dates so you are not shooting blind and wasting a lot of time. And yes, the functionality of your website counts towards your customer service. The fact that the owners neglect to fix this problem is a huge negative. You are your booking vendor's customer and I'm sure you pay money for this service. Get them to fix it! It is undoubtedly affecting your bottom line in the negative. You almost lost me and now I have a tinged experience with your business- and I haven't even been there yet. Lastly, The 2 stylists for Brazilian Blowouts have VERY LIMITED HOURS. 7AM (7 AM? Yes.) to noon. Who books anything "beauty," at 7AM?! Unless you have a major event like a wedding, absolutely ridiculous. You have to be the only salon I've ever heard of offering an appointment at 7 AM. When I asked about other locations, forget it. Totally unhelpful girl to the non-rescue again. Your customer service online and on the phone leave a lot to be desired. Hope my experience in the shop is better than this. I'll let you know. read more

We had a group of 9 women for a Girls Night Out and decided to get blow outs. Half of the group went to Blast and the other half went to Blow Dry! in uptown. The experience at Blast was really not good. They made various of the party wait while others arrived because the others were written down first in the appointment book (strange since all of the appointments were at the same time). The thermostat was set to 81o and there was a big sign saying not to change the setting. The heat caused everyone's hair to fall. Two of the women wanted curls and had to have their hair straightened before they left because the curls had already fallen. All five women said their hair looked better going into Blast than leaving. That being said, there was some appreciation for excellent scalp massages. If you want a blow out that is going to last, I would go to Blow Dry! instead of Blast (which is super sad for me because Blast is opening up in Woodbury - where I live). read more

I usually like this place, but yesterday I got this brand new person who barely knew what they're doing! Cut half my hair wet and the other half dry! Also mind you this place specializes in blowouts, they charge extra for blowouts with a service, and my stylist used a paddle brush for 5 min and called it a blowout ! I can't take another blowout with a paddle brush combing only over the top part of my head! I don't get it, how are you a licensed hair stylist and you can't tell that for different hair textures, different brushes are required! Is this a Minnesota thing? read more

I came here as a model for a free blowout and I couldn't regret it any more. The social media manager was pretty rude on Facebook with scheduling and they were not thrilled once I was there. The stylist used a blow dryer on a hot setting and the curling iron was at 440 degrees...my hair smelled burnt when I left and still smelled burnt after two washes. I have lots of flyaways and my hair feels like straw. Needless to say I have bad heat damage which will take deep conditioning and haircuts to correct. Never again. read more

I wasn't expecting to stay as long as I did and needed a place close to the hospital so I went to Yelp for a search of salons in the area. I'm surprised this salon only had 3 star reviews and usually go only to the highest rating but because of its proximity decided to give it a try. It's beautifully decorated and Taneisha was a terrific stylist. Products are high end, shampoo bowls comfortable and the scalp massage so great. Bad day at Blast! Arrived 15 minutes early for my 11:45 appointment but stylist was running late. Ended up in shampoo bowl at 12:05. When asked how I wanted hair styled, I was told by the gal in charge.....we don't do it that way. (Hmmm...first time that's ever happened to me.) The next client arrived and was told the stylist was running late. She seemed to be in a hurry so I offered to let her get styled which she appreciated as she was headed to a wedding. Got back in the chair at 12:55 and shortly after the salon received phone call from next client (I know this because gal in charge took phone call and carried on conversation for all to hear). The client was running late because of severe rainstorm and was trying to reschedule. The gal in charge was very unprofessional in her handling of the situation and eventually got the owner on the phone. Don't know how it was resolved cause I was eager to get out of the salon. Because I appreciated how my stylist handled herself, I left a 20% tip of $9.00 but was charged $18.00. Yikes! I called around 9:45 and scheduled an appointment for 10am but told them I will be late because I'm not from the area and I may get lost. I'm from California and it's my first day driving alone around here. I pulled up and went to reception where I was sensing some hostility from the African American girl with the red braids and bifocals. She seemed upset that I was about 15 minutes late. She was definitely rude. Lauren did my hair and she was very nice, a sweet girl. I didnt like my hair when I was done but could tell she was in a rush as her next client was waiting to be seen. My hair was still frizzy and the crown portion of my hair was still wet. I told her my hair was still wet so she dried it as quick As possible. And I could see that African American girl giving her a look as she was taking too long with my hair. I really didn't like this girl, she could have been the manager or whatever but atleast give each client quality and consider quality before quantity. When I was done, I was not satisfied at all. Toni does an excellent job - I have gone to her for YEARS and every time I have been pleased. She is incredibly thorough with her technique. I have long, thick, coarse, curly hair that takes me approximately 2-2.5 hours to style without processing. That time is reduced to a half an hour after my Brazilian Blowout. Toni is a professional and as such she has limited availability - I book through the online system and confirm with her. I have never had an issue with my appointment time not being met. I HIGHLY recommend her - especially if your hair texture is similar to mine. I always leave with manageable, shiny, and flowing hair. read more

In town for a family wedding so not from the area. After booking my appt I checked out the Yelp reviews and got a bit concerned around the 3 stars. After my visit I'd say that's about right, maybe generous. My stylist didn't even know how to dry my hair without having to put down the hair dryer after each piece to setup the next piece in the brush. My hair wasn't even wet, just trying to add volume with the dry shampoo. He said it wouldn't look greasy but it still did. I had to take the hair dryer from him and tease the grease out myself. I took my friend here for her birthday on a Saturday. The decor is super cute, however the service terrible. The person doing my hair was late because she was on break. I waited 20 mins, by then, my girlfriend had nearly finished her hair. My girlfriend complained that the women servicing her was so rough that she burned her scalp with the blow dryer and sprayed her entire shirt wet while washing her hair. In fact she pulled out her earring because of how rough she was. Lastly, my hair was fine. I asked for loose waves but instead got tight curls. I was hoping that they would fall more but ended up just wetting mine down and saw that the customer next to me was also complaining of the same thing. Wow, just wow. I was in Minneapolis for a wedding and decided to try a blow out. My last experience, in NYC, was not good, and frankly, I did not have high hopes for how it would turn out here. I figured I'd get a blow out and could always pin it the way I wanted if it looked bad. My stylist of Nakea and she knows exactly what she's doing! I gave her a basic description of what I wanted and showed her a picture. She washed my hair and gave a great scalp massage (and the chairs were also noticeably comfortable - something that's usually not the case for me because I'm short and getting my hair washed usually results in a neck ache). Then she went to work drying and curling. She warned me that my curls would be a bit tight in the beginning but promised they would fall into place by the wedding and she was exactly right. By the time of the wedding (a couple of hours later) my hair looked perfect. Even more impressive, it stayed perfect throughout a night of crazy dancing, and even looked good the next morning! I was very disappointed in this place. We went in a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday morning as part of a wedding group. The bride to be and her mother had went in two weeks prior for a trial run. However, when we came to the appt, neither of the stylists that had participated in the trial run were there. This was very upsetting to say the least, not to mention the salon appeared to not understand the issue with this. The managers response was simply, "we have other people here to do your hair." The point is why would you have ppl come in for a trial run, if you are not going to have those SAME ppl there the day of the appt. Common sense you would think!! read more

This review pertains the Woodbury location. When I arrived I was greeted by one of the girls who seemed to be the one managing the salon at the time - she was really nice, and offered me water and coffee. Iooking back, I wish she had been the one working on my hair....The girl that I ended up getting could not have been less interested in my hair - her job - or conversation. She brought me over to her station she asked what I would like - which I replied that I wanted a traditional blowout with more wave than actual curl. I was never offered a menu and there was nothing listed in the salon stating the different styles. She washed my hair then brought me over to her station and began blow drying. All of a sudden she goes, "where do you part your hair?" she parted it, spun me around to the mirror in her station and asked what I thought. I could not believe it what I saw - I was honestly speechless. The only thing that had been done was my ends were curled under - my strands were straight - ZERO sign of anything that even resembled a wave. I could've done a way better job at home, and it would've been free.... also - I have no idea why, but my hair felt extremely gunky. Not sure if she used too much product, but my hair was so gross and looked dirty. It had the same feeling as if you were to not wash out all the conditioner in your hair. As for hairspray - she didn't use ANY. Or even ask if I wanted any. Look - I get that we all have days at work where we may not feel like giving it our all, but when someone is paying you directly for your service you NEED to at least pretend like you care. My stylist honestly didn't even try to hide the fact that my hair was clearly the lowest priority on her list. Try the WOW Bar in Edina instead! WAY better experience! read more

Came to Blast Blow Dry Bar to get my hair done because a new stylist needed to get more hours of completion in. Parking is an absolute MESS here and there were no spots available in the so called "parking lot" of theirs. My appointment with the stylist was at 6 pm and I was asked to wait for a bit. The stylist was very friendly and talkative. So I did not get the "full" blow out (no wash or blow dry) so I have no clue how this person was going to assessed for hours of completion. So I asked for BIG voluptuous curls. The service was pretty speedy and I didn't feel there was much "quality" effort or work into it. In the end the hair looked OK - I feel it was styled as well so therefore the hair started to get flat. The service ended up being complimentary because I was being used for practice, so I am very pleased with that! Would I feel comfortable paying $39.00 for this, probably not. The space of the salon was GORGEOUS, absolutely beautiful and CLEAN. Lots of styling chairs and space. read more
