Brand new facility (nestled behind the BEST BUY and Kohl's). At first you may miss this location since is is directly across Michael's Crafts. Oh yes this is the location that I have been waiting for. I am hammered by the ease of joining and the fact that it is on a month by month basis, of course you do have to give them a month notice if that's the case. I like the fact that is is a 24 hour, 7 day a week, 365 day a year open facility. Yes, the workers have informed me that even on Christmas they stay open. This location (as well as others) have a sauna (*more like a tiny 4 wo/man fish tank display in the restroom), Four Showers, a first floor (bulking up area) with Tanning facility (2 tanning booths to be exact). For the person who really doesn't want to walk up the stairs, they do have an elevator (personally this takes away from the whole experience (but then again someone who can't climb stairs will love this), but I digress about this. The second floor is pretty good. They have every kind of equipment at the bigger gyms but their equipment actually has televisions to watch healthy shows or news. There is also a dock per machine for your ipod but of course you have to provide your own set of ear phones, which of course is not a bad deal. Now, for the ladies, on the second floor there is a section of machines that only you will be able to access. Yes, ladies your own private gym! This should be good for those who don't want to fuss of having guys oogle you. But this can be a good thing too for motivation. (purely a joke haha). So far the only fault of this gym is that the workers have very little knowledge when it comes to questions. I know they have Internet Wi-Fi but every time I have asked (5 workers so far), they have no idea how to answer me. It seems of course they will not be offering the WI-Fi option, but other gyms have this. And I am really good with the cracking of the passwords so I am sure I will be having it soon. And ladies (or some men) they do have babysitting on the first floor for those of you who insist on bringing the little brats..... Oops my bad, the little bundles of heaven sent angels with you to the gym. I really think its cool that they have noise proof windows because one thing I don't want to hear is the screaming of those "heaven sent angels" again I digress...... (HAHA).... Also, if you go with their platinum version you get to enjoy the follies of their classes. So far they are not up and running but expect them so, Pilate's, yoga or Zumba much? Enjoy the gym but remember to follow the rules and one is (#5 on their board), NO GRUNTING! Due to this being extremely annoying. Last time I went to blast fitness... Years ago. I had friends I knew that I knew years ago from high school that worked for them and liked working for Blast. This place was great because it was better than Charter fitness when that place was there in Oak Lawn but I came here with a friend today and wow! What has happened to this place. Alot of the stuff is gone. The bathrooms are atrocious, staff isn't too interested in what's going on. This whole place is dirty. Gym equipment still has sweat and body oils over everything. Don't sign up with this company. They say no contract but if you try to cancel the membership for ANY reason they make you jump through hoops and try to force you to continue being charged by the company. They will not let you Cancel over the phone they want you to come in person so they can pressure you into keeping the contract. In the process of speaking with my contact at ABC-7 Investigative team to do a story on this gym. They have numerous complaints of not letting customers cancel out of the 'contract' and continue to charge months after the several meetings it takes to Cancel a membership. This is plain theft and unscrupulous business practices which deserves some media attention to inform the public about these mischievous gyms. read more

I have been with this gym for almost 2 years....I was JUST charged in May and June for Maintenance Fees and my sister's gym (she's on the account) in Lombard, closed down (via their Facebook page) and my boyfriend just drove up to our gym in Burbank and there is a sign on the door that says Temporarily Closed, but the gym is cleaned out. Read this before applying!!! So at first glance your like okay, basic gym needs. Weights, machines, treadmills. Fine. Used to be 24 hours and now they significantly cut down their hours. Probably because people have realized its a dump and business has gone downhill. O did I mention that all their lighter free weights and bars used in the classes are all locked up? Yep. O and no medicine balls. Also, most of the machines upstairs have TVs. They also mostly don't work. When I first started going the air conditioner, showers and water fountains were ALL OUT AT THE SAME TIME. Absolutely ridiculous. To get out of the agreement you have to jump through hoops. I moved all the way across town and have to go to the gym to personally get a waiver. Fine. I go and it has to be signed by a manager who is conveniently not there. Drive an hour to come back tomorrow? Dont think so. Can they just sign it and fax or email it to me? "Ugh I don't think he knows how to do that." Basically, they're idiots. Besides this you have to pay 60 to cancel and it conveniently has to be 30 days WRITTEN notice. First of all, everything about this company is in the stone age. Hand written note? Are you kidding? That's why we have the internet and email. O and 30 days? How convenient. Just enough time for them to get you to pay for another month of membership that you're not using the gym. Fabulous. Per the agreement, if you've moved more than 25 miles away they can waive that 60 fee. What, I've only moved 23.5 miles away? Can't help you. Are you kidding? This gym is an a complete scam. They draw you in with the low monthly rates and then make it so hard to get out of it that you almost just want to pay the 20 just to not have to deal with it. There are definitely better gyms out there which makes me want to rate this place a three, but considering I pay $21 ($19.99 for the Platinum membership and $1 for the multi-access club pass which you have to pay) a month I really can't complain. You also have to pay a $49 annual fee, but the good news is they take your monthly dues and this annual fee around the same time. My monthly fee of $20.99 is deducted on the 14th or 15th of every month and then my annual fee of $49 is deducted every year on February 14th. I want to say that the annual deduction date is the same for everyone at the club. Cardio is on the second floor and while there is an overabundance of cardio equipment, most of the equipment is spoken for during the peak times or at least when I get there around 7:30 and 8pm. Cardio equipment is as follows (based on my guesstimate without actually counting): 25-30 ellipticals 25-30 treadmills 15-20 stationary bikes 2 stairmills (where the stairs move) 5 stair climbers (stand there and move your legs up and down) 3 mountain climber machines (the motion feels like mountain climbers from gym class) Free weights are plentiful, but much like the cardio equipment it is often in use. Their dumbells only go up to 70 or 85 lbs. at the most, so if you're one of those big meatheads throwin up hundo dumbells you'll need to either tweak your workout or seek elsewhere. The crowd is ok. I feel like there are a lot of high schoolers here as a lot of the kids are running around in their sports memorabilia from their high school. So either they're still in high school or they just graduated. I don't have a problem with working out next to kids, but some of them roll pretty deep and it can really take up a lot of the equipment. I saw one group with like six people. Still, everyone seems courteous and I haven't had any problems with sharing equipment yet. *knock on wood* The hours here are Monday through Friday 5am-Midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 5am-10pm. Daycare M-F is open till 8:30 or 9 and only till 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. They used to be 24/7, but stopped doing that for whatever reason. As a little nugget of information, this place has been dead the last few times I went here on a Saturday around 7pm. "Supplement Discount." This is hands down the shadiest part of this gym. They try to sell their platinum membership as this exclusive club by including that we get half off of their "supplements." Now here's the head fake... They have an automated cooler on the first floor stocked with all these supplements, but you don't get a discount on those supplements. You only get a discount on the water in the cooler behind the front desk. So if you're a Platinum member then you get a liter of water for $1.50 rather than the $3 they charge everyone else. Contracts. This was a big deal for me because I have war stories involving gyms and contracts. I really dragged my feet from getting back into bed with a gym and the auto-debit (which you have to do to be a member), but I made them point out and highlight that if I am ever dissatisfied with the gym or I just don't feel like being a member, all I have to do is come in with written notice and give them a thirty day notice. Not bad considering with Bally's you basically had to move to Mars to get out of your contract. In summary, if you can deal with the large crowds during the peak times, you can be flexible with your workout (as your equipment is highly likely to be in use when you need it), the head fake advertising, and you can get over the auto-draft then this place is well worth the $11 (Gold membership) or $21 (Platinum membership) a month. It's really more like a 3-star gym, but the ease of getting out of the contract and the price you pay per month knocks it up to a 4-star gym in my opinion. ***UPDATE*** I knocked them down from four stars to three because I'm just tired of all of the kids here taking up equipment they're not even using. I sound like an old man when I say that, but a lot of these kids come there in groups of 4-10 and take over all of the equipment. The good news is that they have another location around 79th and Harlem and it gets A LOT less crowded there. This gym has a lot of potential and is close to home, but there's just too many kids here working on their beach bodies rather than serious lifters. read more

I've been coming for a few months and every time i come there is something broken, missing or filthy. You could reply and say you get what you pay for but charter fitness is the same price and never had anything close to this gym. Things that are messed up; Lockers are half broken. Hinges doors missing etc. Dumbells missing weights 70- 100 . There is a spot for them so it's not like they never had them. Asked about it and got I run around reply of I don't know I just got here. Bathrooms are always completely destroyed. Use your imagination. When a machine breaks it will stay broken for a long long time. .. Elevator has been broken for as long as Club has been open. Yes I know it's a gym I do take stairs. Thats all I can think of as of the moment. As soon as my contract is over I will be Changing. For ten dollars it's A-ok with me. ( I have the 20 dollar platinum though) Does it look like the pictures up above? Sort of. It is clean and the people there are friendly. Good luck finding a machine with a working t.v. I am not going to complain though; For the price and you want to workout it works. The classes are super fun though. Always on time and a good number of people that attend it, never crowded in there which is awesome. I haven't used the babysitting, but I plan to. Awful personal trainers. Booking a personal trainer has been a disaster! It took me a week to get an appointment scheduled- that should have been the giveaway. Then I get the online receipt that shows they charged me for the wrong thing. 5 days of calling and leaving messages and I still can't get my call returned. So I show up for my first session and, low and behold, the gym is closing for the long weekend. At this point I've: 1. Been billed inappropriately 2. Can't get my money back 3. Can't get a personal training sessions 4. Can't get a trainer to return my call, despite countless messages The people at the gym are nice enough but don't have anything to do with the trainers, they can just take messages. read more

Ok, honestly I usually come alone. Having Tv's on the cardio machines was definitely a nice perk for me to join. I know, I know I'm there to work out not to watch tv. But, like I said, it's a perk. I really like that there is a women only area. The sauna and the variety of machines. Now the bad. Tv's never work!!! Just static. Maybe 1 out of 30 work. :( so much for my perk! It's a pretty good gym. While there are plenty of treadmills and other cardio machines, they lack in other equipment. The women's area is usually missing a few yoga balls and they only have about 3 yoga mats. No biggie since I have my own but still. There always seems to be an issue with the paper towels and disinfectant spray!!!.. Not sure why they can't seem to get that together :/ (gross!!!). The crowd is o.k. Typical gym atmosphere. You have the meatheads, and the people who just want to keep in shape. Went to the gym for about a year on and off. Thought the staff was nice and pleasant and enjoyed the woman's only section. I wish their locker room was connected to the womens area like the Bridgeview location though. Two issues I ran into which lowered my review: 1. My bank information was hacked so I called to let them know. They asked if I could make payment another way but I do not have any other credit cards. I informed them once my new information arrives I would call them and they still charged me for late fees. I had to call repeatedly to remind them of my situation. The person I spoke with acted like it was my fault that my info. Was stolen and try continued to try and charge my cancelled card. Eventually they did erase the late fees. 2. I tried out the free personal trainer session. I was on the heavier side and the trainer was very rude. She constantly reminded me that she was 14 years older than me yet had less body fat than I did. Also let me know about when she had ACL/MCL surgery and only gained 4lbs. During her recovery period. That's great for her but not everyone has the same body type or metabolism etc. I found it to be very discouraging and rude for her to constantly compare lifestyles and body types when she should have been encouraging me to keep going to be who I want to be, not her. She told me to call her for more sessions, but I never did. I don't find motivation in being insulted. I enjoyed the rest of the gym, only canceled my membership due to a gym opening right next to my work and made it more convenient. read more

If you join this gym just keep in mind that while it is only $10-$20 a month, there is equipment that is always broken. I would rather spend a few more dollars for a better gym. When I joined this gym it was open 24hours. All of a sudden, it wasn't 24 hours anymore and they didn't even send me a letter or give me a call. I just happened to go around 12am-1am and there was a letter on the door stating that the gym is no longer 24 hours. The next time I went, there was a lady standing at the door holding a paper up that stated the whole second floor was shut down because of the rain. So I basically was throwing away $20 a month. And I thought it was a good deal because it included tanning but the tanning machines are the crappiest tanning machines EVER and I never used them, I never brought any guest, I never even got to go to this gym because I normally go after midnight but it wasn't even open anymore. Canceling this membership has been hell and you better update you payment information if you lose your credit/debit card because they will send you a letter after they have charged you a $30 late fee. If you send them a cancelation letter, make sure you send it certified because they will keep charging you and say they never received the letter. This place isn't even worth $10 Oh, and sometimes they'll have paper towels and cleaning solution to wipe the equipment down, and sometimes they won't. read more

I give it four stars because it's inexpensive, well equipped, has a women's private area, is open 24/7, and has free babysitting. Other than that, the place usually has machines that spend days, if not weeks, broken and/or out of order. The same goes for the water fountains and the toilets (well, at least the women's bathroom). Also, not everyone is good about wiping down their equipment. The tvs at each cardio machine have not been getting much signal as of lately, making them basically unusable unless you bring in your own ipod. As you can expect, the place is also packed at peak hours, w/ the free weight area getting a bit crowded. Went to this location for the first time on Saturday for a RIPPED class. The instructor was great and she defiantly kicked my butt! However, I don't think the floor had been cleaned in a week! There was hair from someones weave all over the floor along with dirt. No paper towels to even wipe our mats down with. Not the best experience. Other locations seem to be maintain better. read more

I been coming here since this location has been opened. I love coming here because of the price and how close it is to my house. The classes here are also great. My favorite is the cycling class! I also bring my daughters here and drop them off at the daycare that they have. The staff are usually friendly and welcoming and Kurt is awesome! He is always so welcoming and helpful! The only complaint I have is that they use to have a sauna but I guess they took it out. I really wish and hope they can bring a sauna back into the gym! This gym is usually very clean as well. They have plenty of machines to do all my workouts. They also have a weight section with good enough free weight for me because I'm beginning. But the only thing I don't like is that the machines are not well kept. They are dirty and instead of towels there only paper towels to wipe down. The place needs some TLC. Even the sinks in the bathroom are falling apart but either way I'm just going for the workout. There's a women section upstairs as well which is nice for those who want privacy. They have tan booths but I wouldn't get in them because they are like those port a potties. read more

It is a new fitness gym that recently opened. I was expecting less since the membership fee is 10 bucks a month, but they do deliver. The gym is two floors, with cardio workout & women's workout area on the second floor, and the strength machine & free weights on the first floor. They also have an open gym in where the host group exercises. The children day care is also on the first floor. The staff is friendly and the crowd so far has been good. Member for a bit over a year now, slowly things been changing. No longer 24 hours and no sign of it ever will be again. Sauna in men's room disappeared...no sign of that making a come back either. Finally, the platinum member discounted drinks...GONE! Just hope the whole building doesn't disappear anytime soon. The tv's on the main floor poor quality picture most the time, 2nd floor I find myself having trouble finding a treadmill with a working TV at times so I go for the one already on so there's no surprise. This is a pretty decent gym if you really just want to hit some weights or hop on a treadmill. Outside of a couple aerobic rooms there really isn't much here. It works for because i can get a good run in and watch tv at the same time before work and they're open 24 hours. Membership is cheap but like i said there isn't much else here except a play room for kids if you have them. You won't find a pool or a basketball court or anythng like that. Don't expect an all-star lineup of energy drinks or things like muscle milk. They also seem to run out of towels pretty fast too so bring your own just in case. As far as the price for membership goes its one you really can't beat.... only $10 a month and for another $10 a month you can bring a friend everytime you come to workout! read more

I signed up with a promise from them that i can cancel at anytime with no fees. What they didnt tell me is that the annual fee of 50$ is due in 2 months. I decided to cancel my membership because the equipment is old, only one pair of dumbbells per weight...and the staff is unfriendly. As it turns out it was too late for me to cancel because it was 3 weeks before the annual fee and not the 30 days. I was told by 3 separate employees that i can cancel a anytime for free which was complete bs. I wouldnt be writing this if they wouldve told me about the annual fee. This gym is always crowded, I think they should have a sign-up limit. To top that off, most of the members are just too busy texting while just sitting on the machines "resting"................. Hello, we are all members, we are ALL entitled to the machines!! The gym has floor rules which nobody follows, a few examples: 1-No work boots while exercising, I seen a few culprits wearing work boots while exercising and nobody says anything. 2-No gym bags on the exercise floor, there is always at least three people carrying their bags and tossing them in front of the equipment as an indication of "Reserved Just For ME" sign and nobody says anything. 3-Wipe down ALL equipment when done using, other than a few hardly ANYBODY does this but once again nobody says anything. Nothing fancy just a plain old gym with lots of equipment. This place is also not the cleanest. They have one disinfectant spray bottle for one entire floor which is outrageous, cheap paper towel roll that you are supposed to to use to wipe down equipment which people never do, needless to say there are balled up pieces of paper everywhere. The women's bathroom is very dirty, and mom's you may want to reconsisder using their day care facility. The floor is just nasty in there to have your baby crawling in there. Shoes should not be allowed in that area. Overall the entire place is dirty! read more

The bathrooms and locker rooms are pretty bad. Would not use toilets or showers if u payed me. No paper towels in workout area or baths. That's gotta b some kind of health code violation. This location was very convenient at the time of my membership. I liked it because it had a women area and wasn't very crowded. I saw that some of the employees were lazy. Sanitizer spray and paper towels weren't always available to clean off machines and it didn't appeared that no one cared. Some of the exercise machines were broken down for a long time and never fixed. There's a sign posted with rules and one of those rules were no profanity or something like that but yet they played explicit music at the time I was there that made me feel very uncomfortable. I mentioned it to a female worker and she seemed confused with my reaction. I finally canceled my membership because I didn't like the way they charge my debit card on top of other fees I couldn't keep up with. One thing I can say though they are very good with the "bring a friend" option more than other clubs. I still would recommend this club but don't expect a lot. read more

Bottom line, you get what you pay for!!! The equiptment is second rate, and there policies suck!! Ive been in the gym game since 91 and ive been a member of Bally's , Quads, and L.A. Fitness, so i have a little experience. I go to the Blast In Dolton, IL. I pay for the Platinum membership, which offers you free Xroom workouts, conducted by their trainers. I dont want to use there trainers, but i want to utilize the room when its not a class in session. They told me i cant utilize the room unless i attend a class! Ive never been to a gym where i cant utilize the entire gym! The only exclusion is usually the spin rooms, only because they have bikes on the floor to use. They told me if they let me use the room, then everyone will want to use the room!! Arent we paying for that?? Then they said you pay additional money to attend the classes and can use the equiptment only with a trainer in the room. I said i dont want to use the equiptment, i only need the space to do burpees, jump rope, do suicides, etc.. They told me no!! Who does that? Either let us use the room, when class isnt in session, or build another room, for people who have their own routines, because the gym isnt big enough to do those types of workouts on the main floor!!
