Regardless, walking into Pub Dunn we came in from the cold, in more ways than one. A good bartender will listen to a couple of youngsters with a story and seem interested. Whether or not it's a good story is immaterial - with a great bartender you'll never know the difference. So, we decompressed for a while over pints of local beer and some fantastic venison sausage and pie, and, a couple hours later, crunched our way through the snow to our hibernating, rear-wheel-drive symbol of jingoism and imperial hubris. A week later we were back in L.A., where the only snow was relegated to the peaks on the horizon and the sand on the beach would burn your feet. At that point, I realized that probably more people here than there refuse to speak English, and random people still treat you like you peed in their Cheerios. And here, there's no Pub Thomas Dunn. We're less for it.
