I have made several trips to Blenheim (correctly pronounced blen-em) and have been extremely happy with their wines. I am not much of a wine fan but I find the white table wine and Chard to be good/excellent. The staff and the Winemaker&General Manager Kirsty Harmon are very easy to talk to and very down to earth. Not a bit of pretentiousness here at ALL! Dave? Dave who? but seriously...take away the superstar owner and this wine stands on it's own... I visited on the afternoon of Sep 1, 2012. My server was very distracted, uninterested, unfriendly, unenthusiastic during each pour. She and her fellow server would strike up a conversation and turn their backs on me as seen in the picture I uploaded. I had a few questions, but her answers weren't substantive and was delivered quite condescendingly. I'm not sure why that was. If the experience was better I may have enjoyed the wines a little more. read more

We came here after visiting Monticello and I must say it is definitley out there so print directions. The facility is very nice and the view is spectacular. Per the review below, we did not need an appointment at all; it is open Wed-Sun 11-530 so just stop on in. Because they're a newer winery I would say their wines are pretty young and so not too spectacular right now. They're still working on increasing their vineyards. Of all their wines, the Star Label Chardonnay (love french oak) and 2008 Cabernet Franc was the best. Look for their label at Total Wine stores. Very friendly staff. We didn't see Dave :) read more

One of the best, if not the most accessible of the Charlottesville wineries. They grow a few of their own grapes but also buy grapes from vineyards around Virginia and produce them with their own twist. Their Ox Eye chardonnay, named after the vineyard that produced the grapes, is the only chardonnay that I have and probably ever will eagerly fork over $20 for-- very clean and focused, with well pronounced apple notes and no oak. I also enjoyed their meritage. The standard chardonnay is so-so. About inaccessibility- it's a small operation, so tasting and tours are available by appointment only. If you can get one, it's absolutely worth it though. Brad McCarthy, the winemaker, is brilliant, eccentric, and very generous-- he gives the tours and isn't afraid to pour huge samples, get drunk with you and tell you all about about biodynamic farming. read more

Pros: Affordable tastings, nice souvenir glass, beautiful building and views. Cons: I only really liked two of the wines- the painted red and white (2011). On the plus side, those are their two house wines and both were fantastic. I didn't really like any of the others; my friend liked the chardonnay we sampled. Our server didn't really explain any of the wines and seemed rather bored- I asked a few questions but we definitely felt rushed and were out of there in under 15 minutes on a Thursday at 3:30pm- it was empty inside! Don't be fooled by the outside-we saw the building roof sticking out of the ground and it was an odd design but when you went inside I was impressed. The unique feature is when you walk in, the plexiglass floors in the center allows you to see the wine processing in the basement. The wine bar has a wonderful view behind it. The server was fantastic! $7 and keep your glass and tasting-good deal! All wines were dry and wished they had some sweet. read more

The winery overlooks lush valleys and vineyards. There are at least three tasting bars and multiple other smaller tables where they will come to you to provide tastings. Five tastings for five dollars just can't be beat. There are multiple outside seating areas some with fire pits some with heaters some picnic tables and one area that is right off the main tasting room with incredible views. While they are very very busy the staff was attentive and quick to refill our glasses. They offer detailed descriptions of each wine. Full glasses of wine are only five dollars and the pours are very generous. A neat touch was the fact that they had a food truck on the premises. The truck had a wide and varied menu, great staff, reasonable prices and very good food. The one negative about this winery is they just don't have enough bathrooms. There were always long lines. All in all this is a great winery to come enjoy the views have excellent wine at reasonable prices and spend time with friends and family. read more

I feel like the appeal of this vineyard is that it's owned by Dave Matthews. Architecturally it was the best vineyard I visited on my tour, but that was it's greatest draw. The wine tasting is limited to 5 wines, 2 of which are blended table wines. It is cool that Dave Matthews designs the labels for the blended wine, but I think it's a bit of a gimmick to get the lesser quality wines sold. The atmosphere is nice, nothing was bad, but as a wine lover I was really hoping there would be something I love. If this is on your route (and with multiple wineries nearby it likely will be) it wouldn't hurt to stop in, but I don't think it's worth going out of your way for. read more

Blenheim has both one of the most beautiful tasting rooms and one of the best views I have ever seen from a winery. It's on par with Sterling Vineyards in Calistoga, but you don't need a cable car to get this view, just a decent map. They have a nice porch you can sit and enjoy some meats and cheeses with your bottles and just take in the view. As it's a bit out of the way, they seem to avoid the larger crowds and cater more to locals, who actually recommended us. The girls who work here seem to be having as good a time as the customers. As for the wine, they definitely are rooted in the Virginia varietals: they make Voignier and Cabernet Franc, grapes that do well in the Blue Ridge. But also take a shot at Syrah, which isn't as common in Virginia wine country as it is in California, and it has a really unique taste for that type of wine. All are very reasonably priced, and I also love the fact that you can grab snacks, relax and spend a few hours enjoying the view and some good wine. Blenheim is definitely poised to be one of the better vineyards in this booming area that could definitely be "Napa-East" in 5-10 years. Hopefully, more wineries will do it the way Blenheim does. read more

I must say, the fact that this is owned by Dave Matthews was a draw to get me there. My expectations were not high, but I was extremely impressed. $5 tasting, and while it is only for a few wines, they were all done extremely well! Seating is slightly limited though, considering the huge draw/crowds but the view is spectacular! They offer any glass for just $5 if you want, and there is cheese & sausages to purchase to snack on. They even offer espresso shots for $2, which is pretty awesome, especially after a day of drinking! Bring a snack, pray for clouds for shade, and enjoy your afternoon here! read more

Basically went to Blenheim because it was on our route we were driving...it's a cute winery...inside they have a "glass" floor to get a peak of the cellar. Nice outdoor space with a back deck with a great view. Did the tasting outside, staff was super nice and informative. Enjoyed most of what we tasted...heard a lot of chatter of people waiting for the Blended White to be released in a few weeks. Def worth a visit...bring your own food if you might get hungry:) read more

I was planning to write a very poor review. What other say about their rules are correct. We told one of the parking Nazis that we were a group of 8 and they said we needed reservations. They radioed ahead and we were told we were 8 ( not 2 groups of 4) by a door Nazi. Even though one of us had no plans to drink/taste, that didn't matter. The fact that it wasn't all that busy added to the insult. That said there were two redeeming factors: 1. the two bottles that we did by ( rose and vigonier blend) were very good-- among the best in Virginia 2. the manager, who must have heard some grumbling, found an excuse to bring two free glasses to the table, and then two more. She was clearly trying to do a save and she did manage to do it. read more

Drove two hours to check this place out. Got there 90 minutes before closing and was told by parking attendant that because the car behind us was with us, and we were more than 7 people (6 adults and 4 kids) we were not allowed in. Not even to buy a couple bottles to go. But the 10 cars that came after us were allowed in because their party wasn't more than 7. To top it off, parking attendant was extremely rude to our friends in the car behind us. We've been vacationing to VA wineries for years and this was by far the worst experience we've had. read more

I really don't understand the less than stellar reviews. For me, Blenheim is one of my favorite wineries. It has it all. The wines are excellent. I have been back several times and top to bottom the wines are all incredible. On occasion the tasting room does get a bit crowded but it's designed well and handles the crowds without making it feel industrial. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. We bring our glasses back and receive free tastings. We never leave without purchasing several bottles. The grounds are picturesque and on occasion they have a food truck on site with good eats. Whenever I come to Charlottesville, Blenheim is on my must visit list. read more

Once in awhile you'll come across a winery that doesn't strike out in one of those areas - this was one of them, people. Yes, it is a bit crowded on the weekends, but what winery isn't (the good ones at least). Blenheim is a really cool spot with a rustic look and an amazing deck to sit on and enjoy views of the Southern side of Albemarle County. I am not a wine snob, and really any glass does well for me, so I'm not the best judge of the "quality" of wine. I am a total table wine type of girl, so I can say that their house/ table white and red do the trick for me! The only time I got an odd vibe at this place was when we brought a large group from our school (I teach near here) and they asked if there were many more people coming- as we were only leaving a couple of tables left for others on the deck. I feel like a large group at a winery should be a welcome thing, but I understand that for some reason, it sometimes isn't. Either way, we didn't have more people coming, so it all worked out well and we all had a good time- it was just for a moment that I felt less-than welcomed. I've come back several times since that, though, and have loved the relaxing view and the great wine every time! If you want a less expensive tasting and some great house wine, come to Blenheim. If Dave Matthews is in town, he might even make an appearance there, too! read more

What a great time, even without the visit from DM! Our group was treated to a million laughs form our hostess with the mostess AliQ ! She made sure we stayed under control, but at the same time helped us have a fantastic time enjoying very good wines! The entire team is there to ensure you have a memorable visit for sure. My only comment for what it is worth is there is not a tour of the production facility, though few are different from each other. I only comment so if this is something you are looking for, visit another vineyard as well, but DO NOT MISS Blenheim. If you have only one stop to make this is well worth considering!!! read more

We drove an hour here for a bachelorette party after being assured a group of 8 would be accommodated. After driving all the way here, we were turned away due to the "capacity" of the one room at the winery. This doesn't make sense to me because regardless of how many people were inside the room, they said we could not have 8 in our group. Very frustrated that when we called, no one told us this rule. We were told we couldn't make a reservation because it was St Patrick's Day, but that we would be perfectly fine. If we had known this rule ahead of time, we would not have come here. Needless to say, we did not get to go to this winery and we will not be returning. read more

This place is gorgeous with a nice scenic view of the vineyard. It's owned by Dave Matthews which made me want to check it out. The tasting room is spacious and beautiful. There's a nice deck in the back where you can sit and take in the scenery. However it was too cold to enjoy. As for the wine, I wasn't impressed. I got to try 5 wines for $6. They were all too dry. The girl pouring our wine didn't tell us much about the wines but it was also busy. Overall I enjoyed the tasting but not enough to purchase any of the wines. read more

The manager is absolute dumpster juice. Our group of 7 went to the winery to celebrate a birthday and we were basically runoff the premises by the manager and his donkeys rear personality. As soon as we entered he immediately began harassing our group about the number of people included and where they were, then after a short period stated our group was "too big" and that we needed to leave (despite being one below their 8 minimum). I DO NOT understand how this company continues to employ an employee, let alone a manager of this standard. I normally wouldn't review a business without fully experiencing it beforehand, but this is quite an exception. I didn't get a chance to try the wine, but truthfully I never want to try it (or will on principal) after the experience here with this manager. F this manager and the horse he rode in on. Big fan of the winery when I went. Being a wine nerd, I was surprised at the level of knowledge from their general support staff. Excellent service. The wines were good, but were lacking a sense of terroir. Empirically excellent wines but they had the overwhelming feeling of being manufactured in a lab. There was no perception of identity. The views were picturesque and my date couldn't have been happier going to Dave Matthews winery, but I expected a little more rock and roll that what I received in the glass. read more

I was so disappointed with Blenheim. There were several wines that were 2005 and older - and they were not amazing. This winery was full of groups of college students - some of them were actually laying out next to a table at which a tasting was being conducted. Really? While the wines were nothing impressive, I did enjoy the tasting. We sat outside and had a staff member pouring for us and another small group at another table. Our pourer did point out which wines were by their old winemaker and which were by their new winemaker. I could not see a difference in quality. The building is beautiful, but was loud because of all the groups that were there before us. When you walk in, there are several openings to the cellar below where all of the barrels are kept. read more

Had a great experience here on a Wednesday early-afternoon. My wife and I had a great pourer who had no hint of pretentiousness. We spoke for a while and she mentioned that the harvest from 2 years ago came at a time of heavy rains and it really affected the grapes (explains previous reviewers comments regarding a watered-down experience). This year's harvest was excellent however and it really showed at the tasting. Aromatic fruit notes in the Rosé, and a splendid Table White with a 2/3 Viognier and 1/3 Chardonnay blend. The 2010 Painted White was just served at The White House for the G8 summit. If you didn't like your visit the first time, try it again. The tasting room is beautiful, and the mountainous views are as picturesque as they come. read more

Blenheim Vineyards caught my attention after seeing it all around Charlottesville! I'm not from the area, so when I was deciding what winery to visit, Blenheim seemed like the obvious choice. It didn't disappoint, its popular for a reason! They have several different wines and I enjoyed each one. My friend and I did the wine tasting, which was a great value. The inside is very cool, there are glass bottom floors that show the wine barrels in the basement. They also have a small porch overlooking the property. It was pretty but I will say there are other wineries that have prettier land. But if you're going for quality wine, go here for sure. The staff was friendly and helpful. I just wish they had food. Stopped by here earlier this week. It's only $5 for a tasting, and I thought the wine was pretty good (bought a Chardonnay), though nothing spectacular. The staff was friendly and insightful. Despite the fact that it's owned by Dave Matthews, which could be a draw for some, I really wanted to go because I was hoping for some nice views of Blue Ridge Mountains. The tasting room is nice (didn't live up to my friends' hype), but the view is almost completely flat! I would definitely recommend going to the Afton Mountain area or up 29N. read more

Came here Thanksgiving weekend with my family and my boy friend. The views of the mountains were fantastic. It was still fairly warm at the time so we sat on the back deck to enjoy some more wine and snacks after the extremely reasonable $5 tasting. The staff were very friendly and I was impressed with the wines. I would definitely put this as a stop on any area wine tasting tours. read more

The vineyard is beautiful, has a great modern barnyard look and it's spacious. The staff was courteous. The wine it self is not impressive at all. However it is the best wine of the area, so extra points for that. For $5 you also get to keep your wine glass..which is nice. I assume that this place is gorgeous in the summer. read more
