The building is wonderfully designed, including the glass floor that lets you see the wine production room. For $8.00 we sampled 5 wines and got to keep the glass. I'm not sure why they didn't have these the first time I was here, but we were here this past weekend and I was very happy to see ample amounts of seating! There were tables and chairs set up in the tasting room with fresh cut flowers as centerpieces and there were tables and seating in between the tasting room and the barn right when you walk up if you want to sit outside in the shade. They have also added lots of great artwork to the walls that is available for purchase. The staff was super friendly, just like last time, AND we either we bought so much wine, or they heard us talking about how much we like the band, that they threw in a couple of Blenheim Painted Series Vol 1 cd's with 3 acoustic DMB tracks with our purchases. Decent winery but suboptimal seating during Coronavirus pandemic. We went to Blenheim on a Sunday afternoon, and, even though there was no one sitting on the patio with the scenic view, we were shuttled to a comparatively drab outdoor seating area. This was likely by design, so the staff wouldn't have to toil in the hot sun as much. However, it doesn't make for a very pleasant experience for the guests especially compared to the other wineries in the area. I probably will not go back to Blenheim vineyards. read more

Great wine and beautiful property!! They were proud to say that all the grapes they use in their wines are Virginia grown, whether they are grown on the property or bought from other local growers. The guided wine flight was amazing, thanks to Lisa. The cheese pairings were perfect and we liked (if not loved) everything we tried! Despite the rain, the view from the tasting room was incredible. Beautiful tasting room, fantastic view, decent prices. I came here on a Tuesday afternoon so it was quieter and more peaceful. There is limit seating indoors, but plenty more outside on the patio and the balcony. They have some gas lamps but it was still too chilly outside for us. We did a tasting of 5 different wines for $7 and got to keep the glass, as well. The bartender was knowledgeable about the vineyard and answered all our questions in detail. I really liked the Blenheim Chardonnay- it was crisp and fruity and had a nice, aromatic aftertaste. Wasn't a fan of the reds though. The Rosé was amazing, but it wasn't produced by Blenheim, it was Cardinal Point. We ended up buying a bottle of the Cardinal Point Rosé. Highly recommend it! They have food trucks here on certain days and they also sell some crackers in the tasting room. Picnics are welcome! Overall, a nice, relaxing winery, but not my favorite around the area. read more

Went here for a girls celebration weekend and it was perfect! A very chic rustic-modern feel Ina huge open barn space, with perfectly serviceable wines at great prices. They have glorious outdoor lounge spaces and firepits outside, with food trucks to keep the munchies at bay! It was quite busy on a Saturday afternoon. Blenheim Vineyards was at the top of my list of wineries I wanted to visit in Charlottesville, and it did not disappoint! It is incredibly picturesque, situated quite a ways back off a path leading to the parking area. Don't be fooled when you pass Trump Vineyards; just keep on going and you will eventually arrive at Blenheim. The tasting room itself is gorgeous! The entire south wall is made of glass windows and there are several skylights allowing maximum light to shine through; so much so that they do not use electricity in the summer to light the tasting room and only in the winter once the sun goes down. While there are outdoor tables and couches before you walk down into the tasting room, the tasting room itself also has a few tables set up, however, the highlight of the seating areas is the outdoor deck attached to the tasting room. There are several tables out there plus two "bar areas" on either side of the deck with a plentiful amount of stools. We were so enamored with the view from the deck that we bought two glasses of wine (which we were not planning on doing as we were trying to visit other vineyards this day too) and a block of cheese to enjoy outside. The tasting fee is $6 per person and includes a glass. If you bring your glass back on future visits, your tastings are free. Our wine server was extremely knowledgeable and friendly with her service, and helpful in offering additional tastings before we decided on glasses to enjoy outside. As far as white wines, I really enjoyed the Painted White (whose label changes each year and is personally designed by Dave Matthews) and the Chardonnay. The Chardonnay was less oaky than a typical Chardonnay with apricot and apple undertones. The Painted White was a tad sweeter and had melon accents. The Painted Red was my favorite red wine with both spicy and fruity flavorings. The Merlot was also very good with distinct blueberry notes. While most of the wines were served in a bottle, they did offer both a white and a red on tap. Since there is no on-site kitchen, they have a rotating food truck that parks out front on the weekends. If you are just looking for a snack, they sell hummus, various meats, and a variety of cheeses in a small fridge near the register. They also have a range of Blenheim Vineyard merchandise ranging from t-shirts to Frisbees. Currently, if you spend more than $50 (it can include wine) you "Painted Series Vol. 3" an EP with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds featuring 3 live performance songs. Although I'm a Dave Matthews fan, I would suggest anyone (whether a Dave fan or not) visit Blenheim as it is extremely picturesque and a perfect place to while a couple of hours away. read more

This is Dave Mathews's Vineyard, and the design cool. The tasting room has a view of the vineyard and the areas beyond. The tasting room has views to the wine production area below which is a nice touch. The staff was very friendly and the tastings were reasonable $8.00 for six different wines. The wine was good... nothing stuck out, but remember that the difference between good and great may just be the subjective view of the taster. So please visit the winery and judge for yourself. First time visitor. The tasting was OK, but fairly small. $5 tasting for 5 wines. I came on an afternoon so it wasn't busy at all. I guess worth a stop, but the wines didn't stand out like some of their neighbors. Wine: 3 stars. 1 out of the 5 I really enjoyed, the rest were decent to kinda good. Facilities: 4 stars; nice set up, both indoors and outdoors. Service: 4 stars pretty good. I had some neat stories about the owner - Dave Matthews - who shows up on occasion, but never when he's touring (to his fan's disappointment). Reds: I really liked the 2013 Grenache. I'm liking this grape a lot; very spicy finish, low tannins. My favorite by far. The 2013 merlot was very young tasting; dark fruit nose, but needs to soften up a while. The Cab Franc didn't make much impression on me White and Rose: the Painted Noir Viognier/Marsanne blend was OK. This was the first time I'd ever heard of the Marsanne grape. The Rose was drinkable but again, nothing extraordinary. Blehneim has 22 acres under vine; much but not all of their wine is estate grown. While the tasting is cheap, I wish they had more wine to serve. They do apparently have a rotating tasting menu, so maybe if I visit again I'll try a few of the others that they were advertising. Here's a tip: if you return, bring your glass! Doing so gets you a free tasting. read more

Perfection. Stopped in here on a last minute day trip to Charlottesville. We loved being able to bring our dog, and enjoy a glass of wine while looking at the beautiful rows of grapes, and the hills behind them. Only thing I would suggest is to bring some of your own food, because the cheese/fruit trays they offer are extremely overpriced and not great. This is by far my favorite vineyard in the area. Gorgeous setting just south of Charlottesville. Inside the tasting room is stunning; it was built to be environmentally friendly (high ceilings, lots of windows), while maximizing a stunning setting to enjoy wine. I don't understand the negative reviews! The staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they are just trying to maintain a small family vineyard feel. You will not be disappointed by a tasting with any of them staff members. $7 tastings for 5 (or more depending on the day) wines. Generous pours so you can actually taste the wines. Blenheim Winery is located south of Charlottesville, VA not far from Monticello and Ashlawn-Highlands. It was established in 2000 by Dave Matthews, yes that Dave Matthews, the singer. The vineyard grows a number of veritals which makes for excellent blends. Weekends offer special events with local musicians, food trucks, and spoken word. The beautiful tasting room is all built with recycled materials and the overall vineyard was designed to make as minimal environmental impact as possible. We had a wine tasting of five of their wines: Claim House White, Painted White, Rose, Cabernet Franc, and Painted Red. The Claim House White is a blend of Viognier, Malvasia Blanca, Chardonnay, and Petit Manseng aged in stainless steel barrels giving it a very clean, crisp finish. Great for a summer evening or with seafood. The Painted White was another blend of Viognier, Sauvignon Blan, and Chardonnay aged in oak barrels. Because of the oak aging, this white had a fuller body and finish but still a light drinker. The Rose was aged in stainless steel giving it a light, red fruit finish. The Cabernet Franc is 100% Cab Franc aged in Fench Oak barrels. It is full bodied with lots of tannins and tobacco. It would match well with a steak or prime rib. The Painted Red was a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Pinot Noir. This was very much a "Bordeaux-like" finish and body; it makes for an excellent all-around red. read more

The gorgeous view is worth the drive from Charlottesville. There was a nice flight option that has one of each color wine and the option to buy bottles or glasses. The COVID precautions made us feel extra comfortable. I recommend bringing your own snacks/meal as there are very few options available right now. I'm not a wine guy, but with a place like this I can totally see it and get the allure. Located in a brilliant and gorgeous setting south of C-Ville, it is a gorgeously designed and very welcoming environment. Our guide was super knowledgeable, kind and funny, and was patient in explaining the intricacies of their wares. We did a tasting, for a very reasonable $8 a person. We got to try all of their wines, and there was even a small play area inside where our three year old daughter could sit and color while we were enjoying. My wife LOVES her vino, and she was a huge fan of several of the options. The Dave Matthews connection is a cool one, and seeing his original art on the bottles was a neat thing. UPDATE: I'm willing to give Blenheim Vineyards an additional star, as the quality of the wine has increased significantly since my last visit. Instead of some boring table wines they are offering different varietals, such as Chardonnay, Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, and Petit Verdot. They are also showing some better craftsmanship, as the reds had superior complexity, but still not to the levels as nearby Gabriele Rausse or even Trump Winery. You can't beat the tasting prices at $6 a tasting (free if you bring back the glass from a previous visit) and $5 a glass/$17-20 a bottle, including wine "growlers" of their house red and white. Kudos to Blenheim for the improvement and for knowing themselves as a tourist attraction offering less expensive, accessible to casual wine fans. I'm optimistic that in the next few years they can start producing some quality wine...just not yet. read more

Went there again this weekend with a Dave Mathews-loving friend who was in town. The wines here keep getting better and better. We got to try some new releases: the new Red Table Wine, the Syrah 2009 and the Cabernet Franc 2009. I was particularly impressed with the Cabernet Franc, which tasted spicy and full of berries. It was really well made and well balanced. I would have taken a bottle home, but I was already picking up my wine club membership, so I decided to wait until my next visit. This time we brought a picnic and enjoyed it on the pretty patio with the beautiful view of the mountains. This was a fun little vineyard to try out and $5 for a wine tasting is never a bad thing! [And you get to keep the glass!] Inside their cozy tasting room, our server walked my boyfriend and I through the selection of wines. Their wines are all screw-top which I think takes away from the drama that comes with uncorking a bottle. As for the taste, I wasn't really fond of their reds-- they were too earthy. Their whites were decent and my boyfriend and I both liked their Chardonnay which was really refreshing and bright. I did wish that our sever was a little bit more knowledgeable about pairings with the wines. I was really in the mood for some cheese and asked her for a selection, but she did not have any. She just told me that they had a selection of cheeses for sale in their fridge. C'mon, make something up at least! Only one of their wines was above $30 and the Chardonnay that we ended purchasing was only $15. You can also get wine by the glass for $5. We were just down the road at Trump, so we decided to check out Blenheim too. It's claim to fame is that it is owned by Dave Matthews who has roots in Cville. They have bars outside on a deck when you first walk up, but you have to go down the stairs and inside to truly get the whole experience. The inside has views into their wine cellar through glass ceilings. There is also another deck off of the back of the tasting room that offers some pretty spectacular views of the vineyard as well. We were trying to decide where to do our tasting when a very gregarious gentleman came up to us and offered to do our tasting inside. The tasting at Blenheim is only $5 and includes the glass. There are only six wines that you taste, but if you return with the glass on future visits, the tasting is free. While I enjoyed my experience, I was very disappointed by all of the wines that I tried there. I would not have purchased a glass nor bottle of any of their wines. As a huge Dave Matthews fan and a wine club member, I couldn't pass through Cville without stopping at Blenheim. From the moment I saw the vineyard's sign from the street, I felt like there was something magical about this place. Maybe that goes back to my love for Dave, but the feeling was there. My friend, my dog, and I got out of the car and easily found our way to the tasting room. Since I live in an area that is not dog friendly, I am accustomed to leaving my dog at home, or if he's traveling with me, tethered somewhere cool and comfortable; so I left my dog tied up in front of the tasting room. Half way through my tasting, I got a little nervous about leaving my dog outside, since he was in an unfamiliar place. The server told me that I could bring my dog inside the tasting room and that I could sit on the back porch with the pup later on if I wanted. What a surprise! My friend and I were able to finish our tasting (2012 varietals of painted red & painted white, and 2013 varietals of rose, cabernet sauvignon, & chardonnay) and taste several of the wines again before each choosing to buy a glass of the cabernet sauvignon. We took our glasses of wine and sat on the porch. There were about 6 tables on the back porch, and we found one at the end, overlooking the vineyard. There was already a bowl filled with water sitting by our table, which made me and my dog feel even more welcome. We lucked out that we visited on a day that wasn't too busy and that had beautiful weather, because we were able to sit on the porch for about an hour before deciding to settle our tab and buy a few bottles of wine. As a wine club member, my friend and I were able to enjoy our tasting for free (we saved $5 each). We were also able to get a 20% discount on everything we purchased. The tasting room is relatively small, but tastefully decorated. It has a rustic, country feel, while at the same time has the feel of being a modern building. There are framed posters on the walls of labels from the painted series, and local art that changes seasonally. You cannot walk down the middle of the tasting room, because the floor is made of glass that looks down to where the wine is produced. The staff are extremely nice. As I said before, our server encouraged us to taste several of the wines multiple times. While we were sitting on the porch, we got to watch some of the staff working, and they offered us some of the fruit they were carrying around. The woman at the register appeased me by looking for extra wine labels/stickers that I could take home. And when I asked which wines I could expect in the October wine club shipment, the staff made sure to find out and tell me, even though an email had not yet gone out to the wine club. Overall, my experience was everything that I expected it to be and more. It is definitely a place to go if you're traveling with your dog and want to try some good wine. This may very well be one of my favorite vineyard discoveries on my most recent visit to the area. This vineyard had it all: amazing views, ample indoor and outdoor seating, plentiful number of wine tasting locations, food trucks, and perhaps most importantly: GOOD WINE. The staff I encountered were all knowledgeable and friendly, and provided a very pleasant tasting experience that wasn't rushed or too formal. The indoor tasting room is a redone barn-and it has a viewing area to the wine cellar which is legit cool. The vineyard views are stunning. Wow. What a horrible visit last weekend. First, we have been to Blenheim before and it's been okay. But today was beyond awful. Today we celebrated a dear friends 40th and decided a trip to Blenheim would be perfect. There were multiple problems which I'll highlight, mostly based on staff. First, the lady in the parking lot (note: staffed by RMC events not the vineyard) was so rude she literally made one in our party cry. Second, we were told that we could not do a tasting for 9, despite saying we would happily split up. We were nice and said we'd just buy bottles instead. Last, as a result of buying bottle we were told to go to the patio where there were heat lamps (it was snowing and the lamps weren't on). Luckily the woman who sold us the bottles was super nice, gave me the appropriate number of glasses, and said we could hang out along the railing bar. We did that until we were done then went on our merry way to somewhere I wouldn't feel awful for paying money to hang out. So, why do you care? Is the wine good? It's ok. Is the service good? No. It's awful. Unless you wanted to be treated like crap. read more

I visited family few months ago in the Charlottesville area and wanted to visit a few wineries since that's what they're know for. My cousin recommended this location because she knew I was a fan of Dave Matthews who happens to own it. It's a small winery with a great decor and even nicer views. I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, and the inexpensive $5 cost for a tasting. I will be returning to Charlottseville soon and hope to try some other wineries. Came here for my parents 40th anniversary and I am really great we got to bring them here. Number one, its one of the best views in Charlottesville. Number 2, the service is great. Number 3, they have wine growlers. Wine Growlers, bang-a-rang! We went through the tastings and i really enjoy their chardonnays here. They are super tasty and refreshingly well balanced. The 2013 Chard was my favorite; light, buttery notes that tickle the pallet. Additionally, the tasting room is beautiful and the glass floors are very unique to any winery I have ever been to and I have been to quite a few wineries. I would highly recommend getting a growler of wine and posting up outside on the large deck that overlooks the vineyards. Its a beautiful and relaxing view. Overall great place. The ladies that do the tastings are super friendly and very knowledgeable about the wine here. Definitely make this a priority stop in Charlottesville and not just because Dave Matthews is involved in the winery, because it is a great place to be. read more
