I feel like it is always hard to look for a new stylist because it can be hard to know where to start. Sometimes referrals from friends are great, but because the Charlotte area is large, the last thing I want is a commute for getting my hair done, that process always takes enough time! I went back to yelp again, and found Southern Roots. While they only had a few reviews, they were all great. I called in and Tiffany actually answered, but had to book me with Donna because of the day I was requesting. She was very kind in trying to set this up for me. When I went to Donna the first time, I asked for my usual cut, a little off the bottom and plenty off the layers, as I love to see my layers. I also asked for my hair color to pop. Unfortunately this is where things went wrong. Everyone can interpret their definitions differently, and my thought of pop was different than Donna's. That is my fault for not going further into likes/dislikes. My hair is naturally brown and she added in blonde highlights that were way too bright and blonde for me. I hated how I looked and hated the contrast. While I did receive compliments on my new look, I did not like the shade of blonde in my hair. However, I loved the cut. I finally received a cut that I had been asking for! As I stated before, I love to see my layers, so I always ask for much shorter layers, and for some reason, other hair stylists only seem to go about an inch above my longer length even though I always ask for much more. Since I got the cut and realized my communication was poor on my likes/dislikes and what I wanted out of color, I decided to go back. At the second appointment, I told Donna I hated the color from the first visit. She was very kind in taking my hatred and even suggested I should have come back, but I really just wanted to try to get used to it, maybe I would eventually like it. I found pictures off the internet of colors that I liked and had them saved for this second visit. I showed Donna a couple, and she picked right up on the colors! She added in some red to my brown while darkening up the blonde from the last visit. My color was spot on! And to me, adding in the red and darker blonde, was my pop. It looked great, along with the cut! I just went back this weekend for a third visit. I confirmed my love for the looks from the second visit and we updated the red and brown this time. After we finished with the cut/color, I pointed out what I loved so that she could make notes on what to do and how to update the different colors for next time. My hair is naturally curly, but I probably style my hair curly half the week and half the week I style it straight. I love that Donna is willing to take the time to style it straight so that I can see the layers and see the cut, that way I can ask for a little bit more if needed. I am happy to say and excited to say, I have found my new stylist! I think it is great someone is willing to listen to my critiques and wants me to be happy. While I can't say anything about Tiffany here, I can say Donna is great and I would recommend her easily!

I left cash and a tip on a hair color job that nearly three long weeks later is so much darker than I am comfortable with that I still can't believe what I see in the mirror. She missed the mark on me. I'm not playful with my hair color... I wasn't trying to play with it. I loved it - even in its faded, sad post crisis condition it was "my" color. What I have now is a deep dark strange head that even my young children still can't figure out. My eye brow pencil is too light for my new Tiffany given color. Be warned and fore-armed about paying cash for such services. Tiffany apologetically and frankly unapologetic business manner won't do anything for me to adjust or fix this color "because of my hair history." So now my budget is spent and there isn't anything that can be done... I still look like "crisis hell". ....I'm just sad, mad, and feel entirely unlike myself - - mismatched to this dark mop -- just ugly.

I left feeling so cute, lighter, and like I'd turned back the clock ten years. Grace is such a genuine, kind, and down-to-earth person. She really listens and knows exactly what my hair needs. Plus, she cares deeply about me and my family. As a 55-year-old with fine, thinning hair, I'm very picky about hairstylists. I want someone who listens but who also knows the latest styles and trends. With Grace, I get all that and more. The first red flag (that I ignored) was that the stylist refused to provide any kind of estimate for time or cost. I trusted her and the process and now, just returning from my fourth visit and more than a thousand dollars lighter, I wish I had never set foot in Salon Piper Glen. I was very upset after my last visit but because we ran out of time and the stylist was working on another client already, I decided to wait until my next visit to address my concerns. Rather than providing a solution, the stylist had two answers: 1) I was my fault for not speaking up in front of her client or calling the next day and when I mentioned that the lavender color I asked for was not applied to the proper places, or really applied at all... 2) it would've washed out anyway Which is NOT the point. The point was that it was never applied to my hair to begin with. There are so many ways she could've handled things to salvage the relationship or at least so I wasn't furious when I left, but rather than saying "this is what I can do for you today to fix it, would that work?" When I told her my budget she just shrugged and then charged me full price for a haircut and let me walk out the door in tears. At one point, I even said, if I were you, I would've at least offered to tone my hair and reapply some of color I asked for (again, not for free, but within the budget I was willing to spend today). But it just came back to how it was all my fault and how the color would've washed out (had it ever been applied). Reddit told me to go to Bishops. I wish I had listened. As Connie does accept all walk-ins - it is recommended to make an appointment so you do not have a wait of any kind. I called the # given on Google and Connie answered the phone - Very professional, pleasant to speak with, polite, & suggested making an appointment - of which I did and got in 30 mins after the initial call. Upon arrival Connie greeted me with a smile and was very socialable-GREAT conversationalist; nothing worse than sitting in a chair for awhile and having complete silence.
