I visited the Blessed Sacrament Hollywood with my better half for Sunday Mass. It's in a convenient spot right in the heart of Hollywood, which made it easy to get to and there is ample parking. The staff--especially Martha, Samantha, and Janine--were friendly, engaging, and accommodating, which helped us feel at ease and welcomed. Father Paul gave a sincere, well-thought-out sermon that seemed to really connect with the parishioners. It was relatable and heartfelt. Their website is simple to navigate, and they keep their Instagram pretty active, which is nice if you want to stay updated. It's a great place to deepen your faith with a grounded, approachable community. We will definitely be part of the parish. read more

My significant other and I had a truly uplifting experience attending the Sunday Mass at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (Hollywood) today. Fr. Paul and their amazing staff created such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Fr. Paul, in particular, was so kind and he has a genuine way of connecting with people through his sermon. The church itself was beautiful and the choir was truly amazing. Their voices were powerful and moving. This is a wonderful Catholic Church, Parish, and community. The church itself is historic, one of the oldest in Los Angeles and second only to the Cathedral in capacity. It has a rich golden age of Hollywood past (Google it) but most importantly it is a true church of acceptance with a very diverse community. Father Paul and everyone associated with Blessed Sacrament really walk the walk and are constantly creating new ministries to include all kinds of interests. They are approachable and really want to serve their parish. All are welcomed and people come from all over Los Angeles and settle here because they feel a positive vibe they want to share with others. I can't recommend Blessed Sacrament more. If you've been looking for the right Catholic Community this very well could be it. It is/was for me. read more

On a recent visit to the Los Angeles area, I googled "Catholic church near me." I selected a church because of its proximity to my location and the time of the scheduled masses. What a blessing it was to attend Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church!! If you're ever in the Hollywood area and looking for a warm, welcoming place to worship, I can't recommend Blessed Sacrament Church enough. During my visit, I was so moved by the vibrant, multi-ethnic, and multi-generational congregation--it truly felt like a community. We found the Sunday 10AM Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hollywood to be welcoming and spiritually uplifting. Father Paul, the pastor, presides over a Mass that uplifts the soul and fills the heart with joy. In his homilies, he gently leads the congregation from the deeply spiritual tone of the gospel into applications to everyday life. Everyone is made welcome at Blessed Sacrament, beginning with the pre-Mass "hello" by Father Paul. The choir and musicians fill the lovely Art-Deco church with beautiful renditions of spiritual hymns. Father Paul and his staff encourage all visitors to consider Blessed Sacrament as their spiritual home base. They are working hard to fill the pews with young people, couples and singles. The Mother's Day service was extremely beautiful. All of the mothers went up on stage, we were blessed with prayer, Holy Water, and a gift of a Rosary. Per Yelp Support's request, I revised the review according to the guidelines and removed any personal information identifying the subjects. The Blessed Sacrament Church Jesuit Parish Food Pantry in Hollywood, California, is poorly managed and infrequently maintained properly; pantry items often expire and reek a foul odor; refrigerators/deep freezers rarely get cleaned and frequently smell like rotting food. The food items are supposed to be inventoried and reordered every two weeks for a consistent delivery to address the needs of the poor; however, the volunteers and food networking resources get managed poorly. I used to volunteer with the lead volunteer and contact person for the pantry. She is responsible for reordering food when needed and often forgets to reorder food, leaving people with no variety, and whatever was leftover from the last two weeks. Volunteers constantly fight with one another, spitting out racial remarks, religious blasphemies, attacks on financial status, and anything else to make each other miserable. I have personally witnessed many of these events first-hand when I would visit the food bank next door to the school. When the volunteers and other staff are not fighting with one another, they are fighting with the people who walked for several blocks or miles to stand in line for food and help with toiletries and clothes, only to get told they do not have anything new, the truck did not show up today, or there was no delivery for some reason (total lie, there was no reorder). Intrinsically, more than a handful of parishioners and recipients of the food pantry have voiced their concerns to the clergy, the staff, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, to no avail; nothing made a difference. I directed people to call and complain to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The poor are supposed to get helped, not mistreated. The "Homeless Center," situated on the same property, for the homeless, run by the same Jesuit Church, used to let the homeless people take showers and get cleaned up, but they decided to eliminate the showers to save money. What other reason would there be? I was told this by a lay-staff member who serves on the Parish's Financial Planning Committee. Church politics plays a significant role in how this institution operates, so if you can avoid frequenting this food pantry or donating to it, you might as well. The lead volunteers' attitude suggests that she does not rely on the poor; the poor depend on her; the same goes for other staff and clergy members at the Blessed Sacrament Jesuit Parish in Hollywood. If you want to see for yourself, go by there one Saturday afternoon between 9 AM and 12 PM, interview some of the people there, or listen to their conversations and observe their behavior. Before you know it, the police will be on the way to break up another fight; for a long time, it happened so frequently that the Hollywood Police Department parked one of their patrol cars in the area, or so it seemed. If this place wants to improve, it will need to reorganize and recruit a new lead volunteer and a new panel of staff. Call the Blessed Sacrament Jesuit Parish in Hollywood and ask them to close their food pantry until they recruit someone who can put the poor people first instead of her herself. Social Media drives sales; it drives them up or pushes them down. In conclusion, do not just read this review; absorb this information immediately, so they can hopefully get positive thoughts if you believe in that sort of thing (the future). read more

If I could rate this a 0, I would because I had a horrible experience here this good Friday at 11:30 AM. We were kneeling down and quietly praying when an old man kicked us out and didn't let us finish our prayers. He was rude and didn't give us at least 5 minutes to finish. Is this the right catholic way to do this? How did the church employ someone with such a bad attitude? He serves the church but his values don't align with them. I've recently become very involved with a Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. I started going around six weeks ago and was charmed by father Jack, and then the next week I was charmed by father JT I love the fact that it's a church that feels like a church when you walk in they have a full band with some incredible Steelers, a drummer, piano horns guitars And they are very very very gay friendly. They had an LGBT brunch after the 10 o'clock mass a few Sundays ago and I walked in to the garden area and there was so much food and looked at the other table and there was mimosas and bloody Mary's and screwdrivers, I said to some of my other LGBT friends got a leave it to the Catholics just gotta be booze, I have met so many nice new friends and I am absolutely loving going to church every Sunday at Blessed Sacrament . We walk on a hike last Sunday around Lake Hollywood this Sunday. We're doing drag brunch at beaches. They will have a booth at LA pride on Hollywood Boulevard on the 11th. When I was working out in the LA/Burbank area, this is the church I used to go to.. to kind of get away from feeling like a rat in the entertainment industry race. I think this church is really quite lovely. It has masses in both English and Spanish. They also have Filipino American, Gay/Lesbian, and youth ministries. The volunteers/eucharistic ministers/lectors are friendly and on the whole, the homilies are usually good. The population at the 5:30pm mass is mixed and consists of a lot of younger people. I always thought these people were the extras of Hollywood that were in here to pray for their big break. Parking can be a bit annoying depending on the mass, but not as bad as some other churches in the area. The parking that is used for the school can sometimes fill up quickly, and I find parking on Sunset can be a nightmare. read more

I was visiting LA from Dec 26- Jan 1, it was a Sunday, and I searched for a nearby Catholic Church. This was an 8 min walk from where I was staying so it was the most convenient. The church was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. I thought it was cool there was a large screen that projected words to some prayers or just the title to some hymns. The pastor seemed friendly, humorous, and said "Maligayang Pasko," (Merry Christmas in tagalog) so perfectly I was impressed. Everything throughout the mass was the same as all Catholic Churches except for the way Communion was done. It was odd that they started with people in the back moving forward first and then those in front going last; but to each their own. At the end of mass they asked those visiting the church for the first time to stand up and introduce themselves. They even had ushers with mics in hand. I was the first one to stand and speak. Although it was uncomfortable at first it felt good to be recognized and welcomed. read more

I've become an adopted supporter thanks to a friend of mine who is quite and active member of the parish. These folks throw the best carnival/fundraisers ever! Straight out of Pollyanna with a twist of Latino musical show and a beer garden to rival the juke box in Roadhouse! Plus they always have the old school carnie games I unabashedly adore. I recently moved to the area, and I stumbled into this church on a Saturday afternoon as I was exploring my new neighborhood by foot. Although I am not as devout as I probably should be (what can I say? majoring in philosophy can bring about a few tough questions regarding religion and God), I do think of myself as a spiritual person. I was raised Catholic, and have completed all my sacraments, but I had never really confessed :( So when I noticed that confessions were taking place that random Saturday I walked in, I figured this was good opportunity. I felt extremely welcomed, heard out, and enlightened, if I may go as far as saying that. In no way did I feel judged. Not sure how most confessions go, but if the primary objectives are to repent for your wrongdoings without judgment, and be reciprocated with a genuine, religious response, then this parish certainly achieves them. Regardless of where I am on my religious path, I really look forward to returning for mass, and definitely for confession, again :) read more

Volunteers and other staff are working tirelessly to give coffee and comfort to the people waiting in line for food and help with toiletries and clothes. once they get their clothes and food items volunteers always offer a smile and a God bless you. More and more of parishioners and recipients of the food pantry have voiced joy and thank you to the clergy and staff, and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for their great work in the community. They truly make a difference.  I would hope people would call and tell the Archdiocese of Los Angeles what a wonderful job they are doing to help the needy and bring joy to those in need at such a difficult time in their lives. I pray they are blessed for their work. The poor are being helped, and treated with respect and love. the church does so much.on the other side at  "The Center," situated on the same campus on Selma run by another organization is trying its best to help but it does not have enough space for the amount of homeless in Hollywood. They are helping get people into housing that is good to see. The amazing lead volunteer at the pantry is a saint she works so hard to help everyone not only those who are struggling with homelessness but even those who she meets in passing.The other staff and clergy members at the Blessed Sacrament Jesuit Parish in Hollywood.  are amazing. If you go by there one Saturday afternoon between 9 AM and 12 PM, interview some of the people there, or listen to their conversations and observe their behavior. You will see hard workers trying to help the community with everything they do with all their dedication to the church and love for everyone that comes there in need.   Police sometimes come by to get coffee and donuts and help with the large crowds that form and are always welcomed with a smile. The Hollywood Police Department parks one of their patrol cars in the area and is always their to help with the crowds and also to talk with the staff because they are always so friendly and welcoming. This pantry has improved the way Hollywood helps the poor and needy , it is so well organized and recruits and volunteers are always needed if anyone who wants to do great work that helps the poor and homeless I would suggest coming to the Blessed Sacrament Jesuit Parish in Hollywood and joining the great work the food pantry does. Ask to join them in helping to make Hollywood a place that is helping homeless be a part of a solution instead of standing by criticizing or just watching. You can be the change that makes the difference. My family and I approached this place after seeing other homeless people milling about and exiting with food. Homeless and hungry, we stopped to ask the gentleman outside what the deal was. I kid you not, the following conversation ensued: Us :: Do you guys give out food here? Them :: No. Us :: ...no? Do you offer any help for families? Them :: Um, this place isnt for kids. At that moment, a woman's voice starting throwing expletives. Us :: Not for kids? Ah... ok. It's a church, right? Well, we appreciate your honesty. Them :: ...I don't know how honest I am, but... sure. (As he shakes my husband's hand) No food? No resources? Then why are people leaving with sack lunches? With sandwiches that have The Lord's Prayer on them?!?! Do I live in mother-effing Crazyville? Are you THAT cold-blooded? Hypocrites! You just denied a homeless family food and blatantly lied to us! Out of all Hollywood, this place is really down to earth. They have the best priests from Jesuit!!! they keep up with the young. The catholic church and young people are sometimes not on the same page and a lot of people leave. I think that's so sad. I only went to one mass here because I was on vacation but I felt really connected with the community. I would love to attend mass here on a regular day basis! read more

Even if it's building looks great as architectural heritage, it's name is incorrect! Nothing blessed in refusing to help my relative when we asked for help (I was translator, so we went there together) They proclaiming themselves "blessed" but in reality they do wide variety of sins! They lie people including me and my family member, they refused to help us, and spoke with us in very rude tone. They pretend that help people volunteering and "by the soul, without expectation of getting anything for what they do" Then one of them told me that when person does something good, it counts as a points for life in heaven after this life on earth. Ha, they believe in points for eternal life in heaven. But all they can offer is to give expired canned food, and they didn't think that can offend normal people by offering them such as if we were poor! I'm professional in cooking and I earn enough to buy food for me & my family. I don't eat canned food. We are normal people honest taxpayers and not in needs. We only needed one-time help with paying for public storage because I had tripled overdraft on credit card on due day to pay for public storage unit. So we asked for help to pay it because someone recommended to ask this church about. I thought that churches created to help people but this one is definitely not! They only wish to collect donations and give nothing useful to people! They offended me by offering expired cans instead of help to pay for storage unit. I'm not poor. They should not look at everyone as at poor, they should learn to listen what people say instead of forcing them to take trash food and go! And they call themselves "blessed" after all! They are unfriendly, dishonest and don't want understand others and don't want to listen! It was much better to close this organization and give the building to some museum or gallery. I just moved to LA and will be having my wedding in Brazil where my family lives. the priest that will marry us there asked that I find a church next to my house that I can both frequent while i am here and get the documents necessary to be married in the catholic faith. After more than two weeks of trying to get a hold of father Leo so I can ask him some questions, he finally calls me back. I have never felt so judged and unwelcome in my life!! I am visiting my son who lives in Hollywood. I went to the Christmas bilingual mass since I missed midnight mass. Although I don't speak Spanish, this church conveyed to me the experience I was hoping for in a Catholic mass. The priest was amazing and his message from beginning to end was about healing, acceptance and love. The choir was ethereal, inviting the parish to sing along. This church is a wonderful church and has very nice Priest. I am very pleased with the church. However, I am not pleased with the Social Services part of the church. The social services area is behind the church on Selma ave. and used to be a great place to go if you were in need. I found my self down on my luck at one time and they were able to help me get back on my feet. They helped me with food and shelter amongst other things. I recently referred someone there and was disgusted with the treatment they received. Apparently there is a new director there that has no compassion for those in need. The person I referred said that he was yelled at while he was there and was made to feel like a second class citizen. This new guy, apparently, does not know how it feels to be homeless or not know where your next meal will come from. All he was asking for was a little compassion and some help. This used to be a lovely and warm place to go. Now, I am told that it feels like boot camp. Bring back the former director! read more
