i love St. Brendan! the church is absolutely beautiful, and the Sunday 11am Mass is always meaningful. parking can be a bit stressful around that time, but getting there about 10 minutes early definitely helps. It's such a peaceful and welcoming place!

I was in the area and I came to Saturday 5:00 pm service. In my opinion, St. Brendan Catholic church is one of the most beautiful churches in Los Angeles It's Gothic style makes it attractive to many to get married at this church and the church has been used for many Hollywood film locations including the fight club movie Beautiful service and Choir. If you're a local may I suggest that you get involved in the church Regular Mass Schedule: Mon. Wow, who knew I'd be reviewing a church. . . I've been going to St. Brendan's practically all of my life, sans college years. It's always been very welcoming and warm. Back in the day, the masses weren't as energizing as they are now, but the priests always make you feel at peace. The congregation is extremely diverse, you see people from all walks of life here from the rich Hancock Park-ers to the early morning nurses getting their blessing in their scrubs. For a few years, I would even be sitting next to Mayor Villaragosa's wife/kid during Sunday mass and not know it until my mom would greet them before communion... then the mayor scandal broke out and we never saw her there again. Sad. The music director, Chris De Silva, always gets the entire church singing. Father Joe loves including sports prayers and will usually bring up games at the beginning of his sermon or at the end of the service (i.e. "the Mariners are playing this week," "Jesus must love the Trojans right now," "let's not forget the importance of next Sunday... it's the Super Bowl."). Monsignor Murphy is very sweet and a pleasure to see after mass. Like everyone says, the church is beautiful. It's ornate and classic, but not cold architecture at all. The stained glass windows are simply dazzling. The alter is gorgeous as well. And Hollywood knows all this, too. A couple of holiday specials have been filmed here. Oh, and y'know that church scene in Spiderman 3-- yep, filmed on the left side of the church. The best time, however, is during "C&E" as one of the priests once said-- Christmas and Easter . Christmas the church is decked out with trees, lights, and poinsettias. There are also the 3 wise man who inch closer to the nativity scene as Christmas draws near (the wise man used to start their journey outside, but then one year one of the wise man was almost stolen, so they moved it inside). Easter is similar, with lilys everywhere. Palm Sunday real palms are used outside as part of the procession before mass. You don't have to be a hardcore Catholic/Christian to enjoy the beauty of this place. It's nice to just sit there and take in everything, especially from my usual vantage point-- the choir loft.

I have been going to church since 1979 and honestly i have been to other churches but i keep coming back St Brendan. There is just something with this parish that makes me feel welcome! Monsignor and the other priest gives great sermons! I don't even have time to yawn. The choir is the best! Mr. DeSilva sings so well and if you know Gary Valenciano, he has his voice! I was shocked when i first heard him! He makes my church experience different. You can park around the church and also across the street. If you are a catholic and live in the LA area, you should try St Brendan Church! God Bless!

This is a very solemn church and open on most days. they also have a catechism class every wednesday for children who are not enrolled on st. brendan school. Monsignor Terry and Fr. Ken gave very good wisdom on there homily so are the rest of the priest. If you plan to attend mass just come early coz the parking is minimal BUT there's a big parking lot across though.

    Morning mass.

This is my new parish. I was trying to find a more welcoming church and I'm sure this is it. I had often passed by St. Brendan's on my way to my old job, and its beautiful facade always caught my eye. And I found out that it catches lots of people's eyes because it has been used in many Hollywood productions. After I registered online, I came to attend mass. I noticed that after mass the people remained very quiet inside the church. One of the things that I disliked about my former parish is that everyone would talk and carry on as soon as the priest left, as if it were a reunion party. Some parishioners stayed to pray the rosary together. I walked around trying to get acquainted with the surroundings, and I met two ladies who showed me around, and welcomed me to the parish. Unfortunately, there are no "poor boxes" inside the church anymore, as I was told they were removed because they were getting stolen. Sadly, this is not the first time I have heard that. Overall, I'm happy here.

I love this church! It is fairly close by and has a very welcoming atmosphere inside. The church is rather beautiful with stained glass windows and balcony seating which offers a breathtaking view of the altar. I love the church choirs! The free donut on Sunday mornings is always good, too!

I spent those first weeks in the back sitting on the floor crying. I felt so free and just ok to be myself for once. It has definitely been a hospital for me. It's been 3 years now and I'm so grateful that I was introduced to this community. I've grown spiritually, mentally and emotionally. I'm still growing and figuring myself out but where I am now is without a doubt due to Jesus Christ and the heavy presence he places over this church. The amazing leadership team at Evergreen take their own personal relationships with Jesus very seriously and it makes me trust them so much more. If you're looking to get more involved in the community, I highly recommend checking out all of the greenhouse groups and see which one works for you. Also look into the volunteer teams! I joined the prayer walk team for a time and that is where I made a lot of friends. The entire pastoral and leadership team are sold-out lovers of Christ, and their authenticity is undeniable. From the moment I stepped into this church, I was overwhelmed by the love of God through the Holy Spirit--I instantly knew I had found my church home. Deep calls out to deep. Like anything worthwhile in life, building community takes effort. If you're looking for connection, I strongly encourage you to start volunteering right away. That's how you meet the "good eggs"--the ones who value serving, consistency, and commitment, just as Christ's love compels us to show up for one another. Think of it like planting a tree: roots are necessary for fruit to grow. Attending once or twice and making a judgment doesn't do justice to what this church has to offer. Plug in, get to know people. You can't microwave friendships or a sense of belonging. But according to scripture when you refresh others, Jesus refreshes you--and serving is one powerful way to experience that. If you're visiting for the first time, welcome. I hope you'll take that next step and get involved. Life isn't easy, in fact Jesus warned us there will be trials and tribulation, but He has overcome. Finding people who draw from His well of life is a rare gem, but I've met some of the most solid, faith-filled people here at Evergreen LA. From a city of Angels Native, Amy & God bless you!
