I had the catfish with collard greens, black-eyed peas and rice, plus white bread. My best friend had cod with mac n yams, red beans and rice, and cornbread. The sides actually came out before the entrée, and we were so hungry that we completely forgot about taking pictures of everything. The food was definitely giving comfort-food energy and was top tier overall. The catfish? Whew, so bomb and full of flavor. Oh and let's not forget the homemade tartar sauce. If I had one small critique, some dishes leaned a little more on the salty side for our preference, but not enough to stop us from coming back. When a party of six your tip is automatically included which is the 18%. and I was like oh wow we had six on Tuesday and I left a $25 cash tip. And he said although waiter should've told you it's automatically taken out and the 18% was already taken care of. And I was like no I handed the waitress $25 cash and she never said 18% was taken out and I didn't pay attention to my receipt cause I had children with me but then when I looked back in my car on Saturday night from Tuesday, I realize that she double charged me. So on Tuesday she got over a $50 tip. The waitress on Tuesday she was a Hispanic lady with dark black hair. She robbed me. So please be aware you're going with the party of six or more. They automatically take out 18% gratuity. And I did not like that because she should've told me that you don't have to leave cash. She knew my kids were crying and I was trying to yo leave and not distract the other guest. But on the positive note, the place is nicely decorated. And service is good. It was packed at 5 pm on a Friday. Service was prompt. 5 min wait for piping hot food is not bad. Once inside Beer Star, we found a table. It was surprising to see so many kids running around, family gatherings and being a pet friendly business a lot of them furry friends. Getting to the food, it was truly amazing. The chicken bites was the star of the show. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Perfectly battered and thoughtfully crafted. Its gluten and celiac free. We got the chicken bites loaded (for a couple of extra bucks) with hot oil and aioli. The garlic fried rice was slightly al-dente and quite oily. It slightly complemented the chicken. imo it could have used a few more ingredients like eggs?. The marinated veggies was fine and mostly eggplant. Next time I would probably stick with the chicken and try their wings with hot honey. Organic ketchup, napkins and spoons are self serve by the food pickup window.
