Before I came, I looked at the reviews and there seems to be a lot of different mixed messages. For one if you're a regular customer and come in often, the employees seem to treat you much better, and when it comes to food they seem to have the better pick of food from the kitchen. As I read through one review they frequently come, they said that they are definitely changes in the service and the quality of food just within the last year or two. Given more history, I did hear that after Covid the restaurant lost certain companies that they used to get their food from which could explain the downgrade in the quality. I only took one picture because in all honesty it really wasn't worth me taking others and I don't understand why a side salad literally a third of the plate was eight dollars. The cucumbers had gone bad and some of the lettuce had even been wilted. The salad definitely was not worth eight dollars. I have had side salads with fresh ingredients for the same price at a dive bar and this is supposed to be a very well-known kind of upscale barbecue place that's in a well-known community that supports their business. The server was also mediocre and I honestly don't believe it would've been better but we were with a well-known customer, the employees seem to be a little bit more friendly, but definitely did not go out of way to make sure my meals were good. The macaroni and cheese taste very bland. There was not a whole lot of seasoning to it. Some of my brisket was dry and some of it was cold so that makes me wonder how long it's been sitting. The brisket was also kind of a seasoned, but not very well. The Tri-tip also was dry which I don't recommend getting. I did enjoy the baked beans and potato salad, but be aware because some cups of beans have mainly onions and bell pepper with barely any beans and some of the cups have no onions and peppers with just all beans. I have had a lot of barbecue in this state being a native of Kansas City and relatives from Texas. I know what good food is especially barbecue! I guess for this area it's one of the better places to go. The only other location that's nearby is Jack's barbecue which is their specialty is beef ribs, but they put literally pepper in everything so there's no flavor at all except for spicy!!!! At least at this restaurant, I'm not drinking a gallon of water because everything is so spicy like at Jack's but that's for another review. Now for the rest--incl. the most crucial factor of a BBQ meal: the meat. ALL of the meat tasted dry. We got the 3 meat combo with ribs, pulled pork, and chicken. While there was a nice smoky flavor to the chicken, that's the only compliment I can give. The ribs genuinely seemed like they had been sitting for hours. The pulled pork was also really dry. Their house sauce was good, but served cold. This sauce carried the flavor for ALL of the meat since it was so dry, but for doing so, is served in WAY too small of a container. Nothing was a consistent temperature. My first bite of Mac and cheese was room temp and the next was hot. The coleslaw hardly had any dressing. The cornbread was so dry, splitting it in half resulted in sandlike collapse of the muffin. The service was good and the seating areas were nice. The chicken bites was the star of the show. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Perfectly battered and thoughtfully crafted. Its gluten and celiac free. We got the chicken bites loaded (for a couple of extra bucks) with hot oil and aioli. The garlic fried rice was slightly al-dente and quite oily. It slightly complemented the chicken. imo it could have used a few more ingredients like eggs?. The marinated veggies was fine and mostly eggplant. Next time I would probably stick with the chicken and try their wings with hot honey. Organic ketchup, napkins and spoons are self serve by the food pickup window. I finally ordered from them and let me tell you, I AM HOOKED! The fries were perfectly crispy and the burgers were huge. We ordered the club house sandwiches for lunch the next day and they were delicious. We also had to try the prawns, fried oysters, and clam strips. Unfortunately they were out of the oysters, but we will try again. I just wish they had a side salad option ;) I was told the owner is the cook - well 10 stars to you, because you care about what you cook. I should have taken a picture, but once I took the first bite, it was not on my plate long.
