Bestie and I stopped by DND Soul in the middle of running errands on a Saturday, and I have to say from the moment we walked in, the vibe was there. First off, the playlist? Straight cuts back-to-back. Whoever had control of the music understood the assignment. The atmosphere was chill, welcoming, and just had that cool, laid-back energy. The customer service was amazing as well. The lady at the front greeted us with such great energy that it instantly set the tone for our visit. Now let's get to the food. I had the catfish with collard greens, black-eyed peas and rice, plus white bread. My best friend had cod with mac n yams, red beans and rice, and cornbread. The sides actually came out before the entrée, and we were so hungry that we completely forgot about taking pictures of everything. The food was definitely giving comfort-food energy and was top tier overall. The catfish? Whew, so bomb and full of flavor. Oh and let's not forget the homemade tartar sauce. If I had one small critique, some dishes leaned a little more on the salty side for our preference, but not enough to stop us from coming back. We were actually too full to even try dessert, and now it's officially on our to-do list for the next visit. Overall: good food, good vibes, good music, and great customer service. We were in the mood for an authentic catfish fry, and we were not disappointed. In fact, we were thrilled with the entire meal! The catfish was perfectly cooked--crisp on the outside and moist and flaky on the inside. The hush puppies were outstanding, as were all the delicious sides we tried. While I loved the collards and mac and cheese, my partners were most delighted with the candied yams, and we all agreed that they were some of the best black-eyed peas we'd ever had. I almost don't want to write this review in hopes they don't run out of the stuff I want to order. As it was, they ran out of some of what I wanted to order on a Saturday just over an hour before closing. I guess that means that I have to go back again and again to get those things and to try more of the menu. Their mac and cheese is great, the sweet potato fries were clearly cut on site and not dumped out of a freezer bag... The staff are super sweet as well. I would say what my favorite entree is, but since it was sold out last time, I will just say you can't go wrong no matter what you choose. This is the real deal for southern cuisine in the area. This is the kinda place I miss living in the south for. The food is excellent, especially for me was the black eyed peas. It's all well seasoned and they give you enough to fill you up twice. This place was amazing! I had cod with hushpuppies, red beans and rice, and cornbread. We received our order pretty quickly and was instantly in heaven when I started eating. The cod was cooked to perfection and fell apart in my mouth. I absolutely adored their tartar sauce and couldn't stop talking about their hushpuppies. I am a sucker for good hushpuppies. We were able to find a table easily and I could tell that they took pride in their space. It was so clean and welcoming. I highly recommend that if you enjoy southern style fish and have a place in your heart for hushpuppies (or maybe you can find a place?), come check it out! Oh my goodness...the food here is amazing! I had the catfish, chicken wings, greens, Cornbread and hush puppies. The fish was so good- super crispy on the outside but tender and meaty inside. Chicken was good too- seasoned and fried just right. The greens though...great flavor and so tender. The owner Marie was wonderful! So kind and patient - made us feel very welcome. Really hate I did not take pics of the food. We had it on both Sat and Sunday a couple of weeks ago. It was good both times however on that Sunday the red beans weren't fully done. I have been looking for a good soul food spot ever since moving from souther California. This place surpassed expectations. Everything I ate was amazing the fish and chicken were fried to perfection. This was a place where food tasted like my home back near the Gulf of Mexico. I had the fried catfish, greens and fried okra. Fantastic and well seasoned. I can tell this place seems to cater more towards takeout, there were Lots of orders, and even though we were eating in the dining room, our food was delivered in to-go containers. The dining area was pretty small and felt like maybe it doubled as a lounge because of the DJ booth. Fair warning. If you order food at peak dinner time, you might find yourself waiting a bit. She had one pork chop and catfish with fried okra and sweet potato fries. The pork chops were incredible! Perfectly fried, with a delicious well-seasoned coating, and still moist and juicy inside. The catfish was just as good. Hush puppies were fantastic as was the red beans and rice (but needed hot sauce). Okra was ok...too much breading and not enough okra but still tasty.
