I went here during the last night of SXSW with a mix of locals and out-of-towners and we had a fun night. It was one of the only places on 6th where you didn't have to have SXSW passes to get into, which was nice! They had a DJ who was playing some awesome jams for most of the time we were there (probably about 45 mins). Lots of remixes - great dancing music! When we walked up to the place they were playing "Pump Up The Jam" I believe, and we knew we had to go in! Not sure what this place is usually like, but we really liked it. Drinks were decently priced. I had a Blue Moon. I believe it was $2-3 (not sure what the price is when it's not SXSW though). I would go here again if the music was as fun as last time! read more

Terrible place. I was in line to use to bathroom on New Years Eve and two women come in claiming that one is a bartender and the other is the owners wife. They yell at me telling me that the bartender needs to use the bathroom right then and there. I didn't let them skip me and went into the stall when it was my turn. When I came out of the stall the women have their phones out recording me and yelling " We're ganna get your ass kicked out" I ignore them because they were obviously drunk. I continue to wash my hands and leave the bathroom. When I turn around from washing my hands there is a male manager in the bathroom yelling at me that I need to leave the bar. I asked him why and he just grabbed my elbow and told me to get out. I pulled my elbow away from him and turn to walk back to my friends. When I look back I see the manager and the woman that was yelling at me in the bathroom following me and yelling at me to get out. I keep walking until I get to my friends I came with and the manager tells them that I need to leave. They asked him what I did and he responded "She started a fight in the bathroom with the owners wife" At this point I'm mad because I'm being harassed for go to the bathroom when I needed to. So I head towards the door to leave this piss poor bar and the manager is right behind me pushing me forward every chance he gets. The manager is telling me that he's called the cops and that I'm going to jail all because Marcella , the owners wife NOT the bartender, needed to use the bathroom. They couldn't even get their story straight. I wouldn't recommend this bar for ANYONE. I was bullied in the bathroom, stalked throughout the bar, and then assaulted on my way out. AND my name was slandered by them calling the cops. They changed me a $10 cover fee and then ruined my night. This place is trash. read more

This was the 2nd stop of the night and I ended up coming back. I really enjoyed the atmosphere: fun crowd, good music, quick service. There are two floors with two separate bands. I stayed upstairs mainly because it had an outdoor patio that overlooked 6th Street. Awesome live cover band that night. Love this spot and pop in every time I'm in Austin. Caught Rodney Overturff's show and it was outstanding with interesting takes on other musician's songs plus lots of originals. Rodney puts his heart into the shows and is able to read the crowd! Can't wait to download his album from Spotify. We just love Austin's exciting, gritty weirdness but especially the musicians. read more

Bernice and her staff are the friendliest and most helpful bartenders on 6th street. We had an issue arise with other bar patrons and after reporting it to her and her staff, she took care of it. They're really working to make a safe and inviting bar for everyone visiting Austin. Also, generally a great place for open air- live music. read more

PROS: -HUGE rooftop patio deck -cans of shiner bock -said beer is extremely cheap -room for washers and/or beanbag drinking games -live music -did i mention the huge roof deck? CONS: -said live music is so loud you cant be heard but at a full scream -if you're older than, say 25, youre going to feel old at this bar -possibility of being puked on rises dramatically as the night goes on and the shots start flowing for the UT students -conversation with other bar goers limited to subjects such as "getting f-ing wasted", UT football and...uh.... Hey its a dive bar in a college town on the main bar street. Dont expect more, find a table and enjoy the view of yourself from 7 years ago. read more

I have to say something negative then two positive things ... The band(s) were too loud to enjoy and would not even want to hang out there. The positive is that downstairs we played video games, drank some good drinks, and enjoyed the vibe. The second positive is that we enjoyed Joe Vega. We requested multiple songs, tipped him well and enjoyed his vibe. If he played in Los Angeles I would totally go see him. Just a nice casual sound. read more

This place is your typical college bar found on 6th street. A plus for this place is that they do have a rooftop patio and an area in the back for smokers (nice even though I don't smoke). At certain times they have bands playing on the rooftop patio which can also be nice. That is about the only benefit to going to the blind pig however. Down sides are beer is served in a can (granted what choice is there with an open rooftop patio). Also the staff in my experience has not been great (granted I am unfairly lumping them all together when in fact a couple of staff members have been okay). This place is excessively overcrowded at times in most areas of the bar. The smoking patio isn't to bad crowd wise as long as you can handle the smoke around you. Overall this is an average college bar on 6th street. If you like patios than this isn't to bad, though there are so many other places in the downtown region that have an open patio I don't know why you would choose here. But I have been on multiple occasions so there is some amount of charm that brings me back. For that reason I would recommend checking it out at least once and making that decision for yourself. read more

I was here too! St. Paddys day anyone? So what do you do with a group of folks whove just spent like 45 mins waiting to be noticed at McCormick and Shmicks ( yes, we were obnoxious, but really, can a gal get a beer round this place?) and now are thirsty, needing entertainment and completley broke. Why the Camel sponsored shindig at Bling Pig should do the trick. The only place you can usually find during major fastivals thats cover and wristband less, and with cool jams, usually live music of some type or another and an airy upstairs deck and side deck both with bars. For me, it was aight. Its always crowded, usually with slightly preppy types. My friend has a hookup with a bartender and once or twice weve had drinks for free. This time was even better cause I was with friends who were buyin, and if you know me... I aint gonna turn down a free drink. Needless to say, fun was had. We took some slightly provocative pictures involving Marilyn Monroe poses against a Camel poster covered wall , and some equally bizarre ones involving two carefully placed flashing lights ( use your imagination.) Was it fun, yes. Is that because of the bar itself, partly. The drinks suck though, not strong and very small. If you really want to get a fabulous drink....Ill share with you this tidbit learned from years of Blind Pig observation. Wear a low cut shirt, smile, and lean over the bar. Cheers! read more

The outside DJ is almost always fun. The reason this place blows is they overcharge, underpour, and RUN OUT OF DRINKS! My first ever visit to Austin, TX was on a Monday night, which may have been poor planning, but my friends and I weren't looking for a crazy night either since we were planning on heading to Hamilton Pool early the next morning. We decided to explore the nightlife on Sixth Street after dinner. Sixth Street is a really cool historic entertainment district with lots of bars and souvenir shops up and down the street. What attracted my friends and I to The Blind Pig Pub was the gorgeous upper outdoor deck that caught our eyes across the street. The bartender, Germaine, was so friendly and personable. He went above and beyond, telling us about different sights to see in Austin, and even introduced us to new shots when we were undecided about our drink choices. The Sour Patch Kid shot is now my new favorite! Though it was a quiet night, we had a lot of fun and the service was great thanks to our bartender! There are also a few things to do at this bar: upstairs there was a giant game of Jenga, corn hole, and downstairs there were some arcade games. There was also a stage set for live music. I'm interested in seeing what the vibe is here on a weekend night. From what I could tell, it seemed like a pretty young crowd, most patrons probably younger than 27. Ok, so bear with me here.. I'm writing my review about the outside of the Blind Pig. I was with a friend the other night, and we decided to try this bar. The bouncer took my ID and let me through, but when my friend behind me walked up, the bartender said his pants were too baggy and he couldn't come in. Now trust me, we arn't the "baggy pants" type and I don't know why this guy was being a jerk. Also outside with us, there was a group of girls yelling at the other bouncer that said one them was too drunk to get in, she visibly didn't look drunk at all... So for that reason I'm giving Blind Pig a low rating. The reason I gave a two instead of one is that I can totally understand where they're coming from. The place was packed, and I'm sure THEY didn't really miss out too much not having our business. From the other reviews I've read, it seems like the bouncers and bartenders here arn't afraid to law down their law, they choose the crowd they want, and I can understand that. It looked like a neat place... I'll prolly go back in the future and post what I thought of it then. In the meantime I'm calling it the "Racist Pig" read more

Was here from out of town with work and had a good time. Live music was pretty good, the large Jenga and things like the multi player Pac Man made it for a good time. Nothing too crazy, some music, open air, tasty beverages, etc. Didn't spend much time downstairs, but would consider it again if I was back in Austin. A lot of places on the same street though are hawking you to come in, and they weren't, so I actually liked that aspect. read more

I'd guess experiences would vary depending on the band. Other than that, it's a divey bar with no cover and reasonable drinks. The rooftop bar with a band is a great combo, though it would be nice to have not had the big tent in the way. I like being able to hop from place to place, so covers usually keep me away, unless I really want to hang out in one spot (which is unlikely with the amount of entertainment on Sixth Street). As for the band, they had D-Snacks from Fort Worth, and they were pretty awesome. They definitely put their own Pop-Rock-Reggae spin on the covers they did, and their original songs were good too. All-in-all, the band made it a blast, and we spent most of our night here. The no cover and reasonable drinks were icing on the cake. read more

Excellent roof top bar with a lot of space. They had a great cover band that was playing some really interesting renditions of rap and r&b songs, such as Usher "Nice and Slow" and Chris Brown songs. I was definitely in the groove! The patio was spacious and we were able to snag a little table in the back to set our drinks down. The bartender was kind enough to give our bachelorette friend a free drink. The people (many also seemingly from out-of-town) were nice and friendly. I think this is one of the better bars on 6th Street. I like that... 1) This place is always popular and so most of my friends are here. 2) There is an awesome upstairs area with great music and you can get some air and watch people in the street. 3) There is often live music downstairs and upstairs. 4) This is a great place to meet new people. I don't like that... 1) Drinks are pretty expensive. 2) The line is always long, but fun to wait in and moves quickly. 3) Some of the bartenders are really rude. read more

Because of the weather being cold this place was empty but it had a very cool layout and the bar tenders knew what they were doing. The main problem, they were out of so much stuff! Did they stop getting kegs and shelf drinks because it was cold? There were about 8 of us total in there so it wasn't like they were selling out. I won't be going out of my way to go back but cool name and a good concept for when it is warmer. read more

My girlfriend and I always make sure to stop by here when we go down Dirty 6. They always have live music, usually cover bands that do a great job. The Blind Pig Pub is a staple on 6th street. Its a reliable venue for great music at a reasonable cost. I don't think it normally has a cover. I went in last week on a Thursday and listened to a fun 90s band jam out for a couple hours. The rooftop patio is huge with plenty of room for standing (and a good amount of seating options). The drinks were fairly cheap with prompt service. It wasn't packed early in the night but def picks up later in the evening. Blind pig caters to a wide variety of clientele and its hard to feel out of place here. Def worth checking out if partying on 6th. read more

I was in there majority of the night. Enjoying the band upstairs, the "manager" downstairs wouldn't even serve me a water. She questioned my ID and I'm nearly 30 years old. She was completely unprofessional, I tried lightening the mood telling her I understood her doing her job because I am in the industry. Still NOTHING. She wouldn't even give me a water (because I was driving therefore NOT drinking) On that note I will not spend another dollar in there and I will make it known how extremely rude their management is. Having just moved here recently from Bay Area, CA - this was one of the first places that I went to in the infamous sixth street. I LOVED the atmosphere at this pub. From the rooftop party that gave an amazing backdrop of the city to the well-priced drinks that did not empty your wallet. The vibe was very relaxed with a mixed age group which is nice for those that are weary about being surrounded by college folk. If you want to start your evening off right, go to this pub for your first couple drinks, good local music, and people-watch from the balcony. read more

Note: if you want to sit on the rooftop deck/patio, you may have to order at the main bar downstairs and carry your drink up with you. There is a bar upstairs but it was unmanned today. I had the Sweet Live which was a cross between a pale ale an an IPA. The folks at the bar seemed regulars, Red Zone on at least 3 televisions, and of course the UT and Dallas games. read more

Don't go here if you're concerned about your health or possibly getting Coronavirus. The manager, A. Anderson, has tested positive for the virus and refuses to quarantine and continues to work at the bar, regardless of the health and safety of the other employees or customers. The owner of the bar, Bob Woody, apparently is aware of Anderson's positive Covid results and has kept it quiet while continuing to let him work. Any respectable owner and manager would never allow this to happen and jeopardize the health of their customers. read more
