You walk in and immediately know you are not in some polished Instagram cocktail lounge. It is loud, a little gritty, and full of people who are clearly there to have a good time and not pretend otherwise. The beer is cold, the Lone Star flows like Texas water, and the vibe is pure old school Austin. And yes, the legendary bathroom situation deserves its own paragraph. The men's room features a giant ice filled trough for a urinal, which feels like something out of a 1970s roadside saloon documentary. Somehow it is both ridiculous and perfectly on brand. It actually becomes a conversation starter because you walk out laughing and immediately tell your friends they have to see it and go pee. The crowd was friendly, the bartenders were quick with the beers, and nobody was taking themselves too seriously. I ended up staying longer than planned, drinking Lone Stars and talking to random people like we had known each other for years. If you want craft cocktails served with a rosemary sprig this is not your place. If you want a hilarious, slightly chaotic, authentically divey night in Austin with cheap beer and great stories, Dirty Bill's absolutely delivers. Five stars and I would go back in a heartbeat.

Do yourself a favor and go next door to the left to Maggie Maes. Skip over this bar full of d-bags. Like reviews before me have said, this bar only cares about attractive women they can take advantage of. HORRIBLE! This seems to be the spot everyone flocks to at the end of the night, but time and time again they've proven themselves to me. I hope the owner of Blind Pig reads this and cleans his staff up. The venue is fine, the employees suck a big one. Last night I went here and ordered a red bull and vodka, instead I got something extremely watered down and obviously not red bull, it was clear...when asking the bartender what he had put in my drink he stated it was some other energy drink they had and quote "what do you expect from a bar that gives drinks to you in plastic cups"...seriously? this is an employees attitude...they're blaming ME cause I'm not satisfied with my drink? He won't give me another drink. I let it go, whatever. Next night, tonight, I stand in line for over 10 minutes, get to the front and they deny me cause I'm wearing all black Jordans, they're brand new, the shoes by no means look bad...I look around, inside the bar and there's people with Converse and sandals on, the bouncers/door-men are going up and down the line telling people they can cut to the front if they pay them 5 dollars, mostly the guys, the girls they're letting in no problem. I wait in line again, try to talk to the other door-guy...he denys me again, I say listen..my friends are inside, this whole thing is ridiculous, let me pay you $10, just let me in...I point inside to a dude with sandals and I'm like....you let him in...he shrugs and tells me quote "ef off"...enough said...ABSOLUTELY DONE with this place...Never going back. I'm a local tech guy from a big company in town who supports local business, but like I said initially, do yourself a favor and go next door to Maggie Maes, support a bar that cares about their customers, these guys don't. read more

The most racist bar I've ever went to. Who ever worked the night of October 29th, 2 door guys and 1 bartender, this is directed towards them. Came in with 2 other friends. Bought our over priced drinks and sat at the table they made us sit at (NOT ONE PERSON IN THE ENTIRE PLACE) mind you it's Thursday night dt Austin. My friend got up to go to the bathroom and the Blind Pig Staff accused him of dancing, ripped his drink out of his hand, and yelled at us to leave. He was bullied by the 3 of these guys and we were forced to leave and ripped off. If there is a no dancing rule, that's fine, we get it, but Letting us know or asking us to stop is a reasonable solution. We are all bartenders, we understand how the server world works, this will never sit right for us. I hope the manager or owner sees this, or something is reviewed or checked on these boys. I've never left a bad yelp review, and I hope this was a fluke. What a horrible introduction to Austin. read more

Blind Pig is a bit of a mixed bag. I'd say my experience has been overall positive, I just happen to know some people who had less pleasant experiences. For my experience: the drinks are cheap and the ambience is one of the only ones I can handle on 6th st. I'm gettin old ;) and they actually keep the music to a level you can talk over. Bartenders are attentive and I've never felt "skipped over" there, even though as an out of shape older man I recognize I am probably not the bar's highest priority. My friend however, told me he went there a few times and was turned away because he violated the dress code (because he was wearing a necklace?) and another time because security confused him with another guy who had been causing problems with the ladies. My friend is far too shy to ever so much as talk to a girl in a bar, so I'm certain he was telling the truth. But! My experience there wasn't like that, so definitely check it out. read more

The manger needs to be investigated for harassment toward customers. My niece was assaulted, disrespected, and treated unfairly on last night/ early morning because two disrespectful ass employees( one said to be the bartender,and one to be related to the owner) who work there thought they had the right to skip customers in line just to go to the restroom and when my niece refused to let them in front of her they decided to call her out her name and yell at her.. Then some man who's said to be a manger yelled at her and physically pushed her out the facility,without even getting her side of the story. And they called the police on her for what their employees initiated .. I will be reporting this to the better business bureau and any and all social media outlets read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I sometimes stay away from the East 6th street bars because of the young crowd. However, I went in to The Blind Pig Pub to see a friend play (Ben Cina) and the downstairs part of the bar was great. The crowd was a little bit older (25-38) and it was nice because I felt all the crazies went upstairs. The drinks were very affordable and I felt comfortable there the whole time. The bartenders were extremely sweet to me. It was nice to enjoy the music and not be pushed around or have drinks spilled on me. The bar was very clean for a bar. ha I had only planned on staying for an hour and I stayed for 3 hours! It was such a good time. I would recommend this place. Especially if you want to listen to some good live music. read more

This is a disgusting dive bar for stupid little UNDER AGE Frat boys. Don't try getting in when it's busy if you're over 40; the 21 year old pretty boy bouncer will tell you you're "in violatiojn of the dress code" when the TRUTH is they want to pack as many underage kids in and fill them with as much booze as possibe. Where is the Texas ABC? Or is somebody being paid off here? It's plain to see NOBODY is being carded. Then again, maybe there's a higher authority which will eventually put these sleezy club owners into HELL instead of into prison where they belong. A bouncer at this joint with the "family like" atmosphere assaulted my daughter's boyfriend last weekend. He's a nice kid, senior at UT trying to work and pay his way through school. He was taken out the back door, punched in the face twice, thrown to the ground and left bloodied. This young man was not only badly hurt, he was also humiliated and is scared. He may have permanent injury to his eye. Avoid this place and the "nice" people that work there. See other reviews that reflect the crap other customers experienced at this establishment. Blind Pig Pub is probably my favorite party spot on 6th Street. The music, atmosphere, and overall vibes are always a great time, especially if you're out with friends or celebrating something like a bachelor party. The rooftop is a blast, the crowd is energetic, and it definitely feels like one of the more fun bars in the area. That said, if you're coming with family or looking for a more relaxed environment, I'd probably avoid it after 8 PM. Once the night crowd rolls in, it turns into complete chaos pretty quickly. Crawling with thieves. I'm making sure never to come back here after I had my wallet stolen TWICE. Guess I should have learned my lesson the first time after going to such a sleazy joint. My friend got denied because of his "shoes". Pretty sure that was bs as they let about twelve other guys in right after with the same shoes. Definitely racially profiled him. I've been coming to your bar for about six years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, which is why this interaction was so upsetting. When I approached the bar to order, the bartender, Julia, immediately said, "Don't piss me off." I was caught off guard because I hadn't said or done anything at that point. I was ordering drinks for myself and my partner, so I had two tabs. Before receiving my drink, I let her know that I wanted to cash out both tabs. After handing me my drink, she walked away without closing them. I politely reminded her that I needed to cash out both tabs, and she responded by saying, "You're pissing me off now." When I explained that I had already mentioned wanting to close both tabs, she told me, "I'm completely sober, so I know what you said. You're drunk." At that point, I had only had one beer. Whether she believed I had misunderstood something or not, I don't think it was appropriate to speak to a guest that way. I responded by saying, "It's okay to be wrong," which I understand may not have helped de-escalate the situation, but I was frustrated by how I was being spoken to. The interaction continued outside, where she raised her voice at me in front of other guests. I told her that it wasn't appropriate to yell at me publicly and that beginning the interaction by saying "don't piss me off" was also unacceptable. The conversation continued to escalate, and after I had already paid my tabs (approximately $18 total), my beer was taken and thrown away. I've worked in the service industry as well, so I understand that difficult interactions happen and that everyone has stressful days. However, I also know how important it is to remain professional when interacting with customers. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect to be treated with basic respect. I'm not writing this to get anyone in trouble. I simply wanted to make management aware of an experience that left me feeling embarrassed, uncomfortable, and disappointed at a place I've supported for many years. I hope this can be addressed so that other guests don't have a similar experience. Thank you for taking the time to read this I also found it concerning that you repeatedly emphasized that you were sober. At no point did I question your sobriety or suggest otherwise. There is literally nothing going on, not a single ticket in the well. Enter the antagonist of our story: a surly, brown-haired, early-30s male bartender whose entire vibe can only be described as "aggressively burdened by my existence." I sat down and made the apparently offensive mistake of asking for a tequila recommendation or a menu. Instead of, you know, doing his job, he vaguely flapped a hand toward a distant corner of the bar and muttered something to the effect of, "Figure it out yourself." Rude? Absolutely. But the true comedic genius of this moment was that the "selection" he pointed to was completely barricaded behind a Great Wall of stacked pint glasses. Unless he expected me to develop X-ray vision on the spot, I wasn't choosing anything. When he finally graced my side of the bar with his presence again, he asked if I'd made a decision. I politely informed him that his precious agave collection was hidden behind glassware. Did he apologize? Did he offer a menu? No. He just served up a passive-aggressive shrug packed with so much contempt it deserves its own Austin zip code. As someone with a background in neurobiology, I was genuinely fascinated by the complete lack of synaptic activity required to be this terrible at hospitality when you have literally zero other customers to attend to. Having also worked in the food & beverage service industry myself, I've seen my share of bad nights, but I have never witnessed such dastardly, flippant behavior from a bartender. I did the only logical thing: I told him it would be better if I just found another place to go, got up, and walked right out the door. To the Management: Your Monday night guy needs a serious talking-to, a basic hospitality seminar, and maybe a printed menu, since memorizing the tequila selection is clearly above his pay grade.

As we got to the bar, we met the disaster of the bartender woman with glasses. She looked at all of us weirdly and was overall very aloof. We asked for the drink menu and she just pointed at what was on the counter. Okay, I thought. Just a bit quiet. I asked a few questions about the drinks and she rudely responded with one word answers. I ordered the martini and she gave me a weird look and then made it, very antagonistically. I didn't tip her. There was no service involved (she just mixed the drink and handed it to me) and we were to sit at the booth. She then interrogated my two friends about it, angrily asking why I wouldn't tip and saying odd personal information of how she makes $10 an hour only. I understand that, and I always tip at restaurants when the waiter or waitress serves me at the table, but when I'm just picking up an item, I don't tip out of principle (why should I)? It made the entire evening really weird and uncomfortable. I wouldn't recommend this place. Drinks are overpriced ($10.75 for the old-fashioned = whisky + ice?!) The music is great but there are plenty of other places with fantastic live music in Austin, don't bother with this. And the service is by far the worst I've ever encountered at a bar. Trust me, stay away.

Seating for the event was tight, made me wonder what the capacity code is as even I, under 5'5, had little leg room. Think airplane rows, very tight. Felt bad for taller peeps. The band was great, all had solos throughout the performance and gave their own version of each song. You could feel the energy in the room and I wish the show was longer than and hour. Didn't partake in any drinks, so I can't speak to the bar service.
