That is not my go-to dish, but when I looked at the online menu and heard their recommendation, well, I needed to try it. What really changed it up was the fried grit cake part. We made a reservation 3 weeks in advance - for the terrace. We had several confirmation reminders which we said yes to. When we arrived with nine people including a toddler at 5:30 pm, they said they had a wedding on the terrace and offered us a table just inside the door, with a view of a dumpster. Zero apology. It was so loud we had to yell to hear each other. It was too late to wander around trying to find a place that could take a party our size. It was my 60th birthday- 6 of us flew in from New Hampshire to celebrate. The food was 3/5, service 4/5, atmosphere 1/5. What a fun bar! My friend and I stopped in on a Friday night and had a great time. It was pretty busy, with a few Bachelorette parties stopping in and lots of other big groups. This place had a pretty different vibe relative to a lot of other Charleston spots and felt much more casual, which I loved! My friend ordered an espresso martini, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend. Stick to regular bar drinks and leave the upscale cocktail type drinks for some of the fancier bars in town. This is such a unique and cool spot in Charleston -- a must visit if you're in the area! It's a super cool atmosphere with plenty of options for hanging out: inside, by the bar, outside, outside bar, patio... Somewhere for everybody! We usually just grab a couple drinks and keep our tab open at the bar; staff work hard and fast and we have had no issues. I rarely leave reviews, but I feel a responsibility to share this experience for the safety of others. I visited this bar expecting a normal night out after a Christmas party with some coworkers. Instead, I had an extremely distressing and frightening experience involving staff intervention that left me shaken and unsafe. During my visit, one of the bouncers physically assaulted me. I left with visible bruises and was deeply shaken by how the situation was managed. What should have been a conversation instead escalated into something physically harmful. When I followed up afterward with law enforcement - I was told camera footage was obstructed and staff accounts conflicted with my own, leaving no accountability or resolution. I am not posting this to attack individual employees, but to highlight serious concerns about training, de-escalation practices, and patron safety. No one should leave a bar injured. I would urge others (especially women) to think carefully about whether this is a place they would feel safe if something went wrong. Regardless of differing perspectives, patrons should be able to expect: * Clear de-escalation practices * Transparent safety protocols * Protection of customer dignity in high-stress situations Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I am sharing this not to attack individual employees, but to raise serious concerns about safety, training, and oversight. It smelled inside, was incredibly crowded. We called ahead to reserve a table for a large group for happy hour. They took about 30 minutes after our reservation to get it together. Then, they told us that we had to leave our table if every single person in our group wasn't ordering entrees. We specifically stated that we were making a reservation for happy hour drinks. We tried to discuss if there was a cash amount we'd have to make to keep the table and they said, nope, everyone and entrees and that's it. Wow! Is all I have to say. Came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, first time in downtown Charleston. First off, it's in a great location. You can walk around to rainbow row or the beach if you want to after eating. And we did! Second, the outside area is georgous. Outside bae, waterfall, and a great covered patio dining area. We got sat pretty quick about 20min. Also plus- super dog friendly! Waterbowls everywhere. I ordered the gnnochi with summer squash and hanger steak. My boyfriend got the oysters and shrimp and grits. All the food was amazing! Gnnochi was soft and pillowy as it should be. Steak cooked perfect, vegetables on par. And sauce was superb. We stopped in here after a haunted carriage ride. We were told it's haunted, but even with my taunting, no ghost accosted me. :/ We ordered some appetizers and desserts, which were all really good.
