I went to Henry's with my friend recently for their Single's line dancing event hosted by Battery Social. This was my first line dancing event upstairs at their live music and bar venue. I had a crisp and refreshing sweet tea vodka to keep hydrated. They had a big turnout of young folks wanting to learn how to line dance. A great time was had by all! read more

The service provided by Ryan C. was superb! Ryan was very knowledgeable about the menu and extremely attentive. He never allowed my plastic cup of ice water to fall below half full, and he would periodically inquire whether everything was fine. Now, the meal. I ordered a Black Angus Hamburger with American cheese and French fries. The taste was delicious, but I was also disappointed. The burger appeared to be a premade patty cooked on a grill rather than freshly ground beef formed into a patty. The fries, well, about a quarter of them were burned, and they were also overly salty! Oh, and what is with serving the ice water in a plastic cup? Cheap! For dessert, I had Key Lime Pie, which was very good. However, the presentation was lacking because the slice was placed on a dinner plate. The plate dwarfed the slice, making for a poor presentation. Due to the excellent service and the taste of the burger and Key Lime Pie, I give the restaurant an average rating. I guess the location is what makes this place a hot spot. read more

Who doesn't want a low country evening. My sister and I are here in Charleston on our sisters trip and we came into Henry's looking for food. Unfortunately the kitchen was already closed. Booo but we did have a yummy espresso martini! Our sever Dalton was so sweet and easy on the eyes clock it lol (I'm married but not blind lol). The vibes were high here it's a nice moody bar and tonight while we were here there is a live band. Oh and don't forget to go checkout the rooftop! Service was relatively quick and the waiter was pretty attentive. The dip was great, maybe the best I've ever had. The grits were buttery and smooth, but the veggies tasted like something I would cook up in a few minutes at my house. The overall dish was good, but I might try something new next time. read more

Great food, bars on three levels including a rooftop. Friendly and welcoming server wearing a Dolly shirt! It also has ghosts in the bathrooms and on the second floor- but they were quiet while I was there. The owner brewed beer in his upstairs home for awhile, but Mrs. Hasselmeyer, his wife, accidentally revealed what he was doing to the police thirteen times (including pouring beer from the roof of the building while they were inspecting the restaurant for liquor sales)! read more

Celebrated my sister's birthday last Friday, Jan. 9th and it was so befitting that we celebrated here as our late Dad's name was Henry. I reserved a head of time due to it being a Friday evening and the business that downtown Charleston. We were greet by the hostess and guided to our table. We had a street view and people watched as we chatted throughout dinner. The food was delicious and our server was awesome. We didn't have to wait long so that was wonderful! Two bands were playing as different games were playing on multiple televisions. People were coming in dressed to the nines while others were more casual. The theme of my sister's surprise birthday was the 80's so we fit perfectly with the decor lol. My only complaints of the night were that there is no special birthday treats given to guest and that my food was warm (grits are better served hot!!) read more

There are 3 levels to Henry's, multiple bars and many separate cool rooms. They have live music. Staff is very friendly. The history is unique . It was established in 1932, fits as a grocery store by a German immigrant, then became a beer parlor right after prohibition. You will find some very cool art and history here. read more

I recently dined at Henry's, and I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed! The food is packed with southern comfort flavors, much better than what I've experienced back in California. The service was wonderful, and the quaint atmosphere made for a delightful dining experience. I started with the crab soup, which was rich and flavorful, and shared a couple of dishes with friends. The crabcake was a highlight for me, and the po' boy shrimp sandwich had just the right amount of seasoning. Overall, I'm definitely planning to return to try more items from the menu. Soo Cool this place has 4 bars in one building. Great drinks- the Kentucky Mule and their House TO were made well and delivered by our warm and welcoming server. Henry's has definitely made renovations and improvements over the years and it's a good spot to stop in for a rooftop drink on the Market. Downstairs often has live music, but I often heads straight up the stairs. I really liked the 3rd floor bar, but I was there yesterday and that area was closed off and I heard the bar are there is no longer. We went back down to the 2nd floor and ordered a drink. I got an old fashioned with Bulleit Rye and my buddy got a gin and tonic with Hendrix. For some reason, his was $12 and mine was $20 which seems high. It's not a top end cocktail bar, they are just taking advantage of tourists. Next time I'll be sure to order something different because I'm not paying almost $25 dollars with tip for a mediocre cocktail. read more

I haven't been to Henry's in several years and as I found myself there over the weekend, I remembered why. Not only is there a steep cover on weekends ($20) but the drinks offered are pretty basic. The layout itself is pretty cool. You have multiple bars throughout the venue (which style as an older home with its pretty porches) so you're able to pick which room you'd like to stay in or wander around. That being said once it gets later in the evening some rooms (like The Whiskey Room) do reach capacity. Don't be that guy that tries to push their way in anyways because security WILL pick you up by the collar as if you weigh no more than the speck of dirt on the bottom of their shoe, carry you down multiple flights of steps and toss you out onto the street. (I witnessed it twice and albeit it was entertaining to see full grown men throw tantrums- it's not worth the hassle.) There is not a diverse crowd in attendance and expect to see many college kids or those that peeked in college but are still chasing that high to be young again. It's a tourist bar so you get what you get. read more

We stopped here after walking all day and it was a nice break. The bar has a great feel; a touch of history, a dab of eccentric, and a modern goth all in one. It was also Halloween so the goth part may be due to the vampire bartenders. The service was great. My wife can only drink fruity rum drinks that have low acidity. They made her a drink right away some of the other ladies asked for it as soon as they saw my wife's drink. Henry's has classic southern charm with a live band after 2 (we came too early :/) Downstairs is all enclosed while upstairs has outdoor seating and indoor seating. The shrimp and grits were really good and the seafood platter as alright. The asparagus was excellent, the shrimp was mildly seasoned and the fish of the day was Goldentile which we've never had before. Goldentile is a local SC fish that's like a grouper but thicker like a mahi mahi. My husband said it was really good. The shrimp and grits were well seasoned. They gave you about 6 shrimp and the flavor was really good. Austin took care of us and made sure that our waters were topped off and took good care of us. read more

No beers on tap and not a big beer selection overall (like 10 options), but they do have a big liquor/drink menu. Interesting layout as far as the different rooms/buildings (oldest Charleston and South Carolina restaurant). Some of the downstairs rooms are very nice looking. Do not go on a weeknight/Sunday night before close. My friend and I stopped in at 8:30pm Sunday and it was fairly empty but we just wanted a quick bite and had heard such good things. The hostess was very kind and we said we can just grab a seat at the bar to eat and she seemed skeptical so she went to the bartender to ask and we heard him say "absolutely not". We then got seated at a table and the waiter seemed annoyed we were there and said "kitchen is closing you need an order in within 20 minutes". We quickly ordered and my friend and I have never felt so unwelcome. We left when entire staff was still on and multiple tables left. The bartenders were sitting around waiting for close. Our Carriage Driver (Mike), from Palmettos Carriage Rides, suggested we try Henry's for lunch. It did not disappoint! There was no wait, we sat at the bar. There is a sign at the front door that says the kitchen opens at 4...we took a chance and had full service at 2. Not sure what the sign is talking about. The bartender was very personable and professional. The burgers were great! I had the lemonade adult drink, very refreshing.
