Serendipity is one of those boutique stores you will find me here 10/10 times if I was in the area. They offer beautiful boho-chic wear and free-spirited jewelry in a very organized and tidy moderate size space. In addition to clothes, they also sell adorable home good items. Now thank god I was with another couple so I didn't spend a lot of time here because if I was by myself, I would hurt my wallet's feelings. Gold Arrow Necklace- I love this necklace. It really goes with just about anything and is the perfect short length, which I find sometimes with certain necklaces can irritate my collar bone when it dangles. I believe I only spent $29 on it. Overall Service: Very welcoming and great personalities. I can see them engaging with customers when they need assistance and for someone like myself who was just perusing, they gave me the space to do so. read more

A store full of women's clothing, jewelry, and various little things that scream "impulse buy". There's a similar Serendipity in Exeter and (assuming they're related) they naturally have a lot on common. If you've come to Portsmouth for a day of wandering from store to store looking for something different, be sure to include Serendipity in the lengthy list of stores that are here to satisfy your every need. Growing up as a teenager in Portsmouth I shopped downtown a LOT. Serendipity was always one of the first stops. They carry more expensive brands such as free people and more generic brands which are cheaper. The jewelry they carry is overpriced and very poorly made. I've had multiple necklaces, bracelets, and rings that were given to me as gifts. With the exception of rings, all of the jewelry has broken. The girls who work in the shop are honestly rude. I've been into the shop hundreds of times and they've spoken to me maybe a dozen times. Only when needing a fitting room or while purchasing something. I love free people and it being one of the only stores in town that sell the brand, I continue to shop there. read more

cute store. good sale section. non-sale stuff is kind of expensive. normally a 4-store kind of store (the kind i'll always stop by once when i'm in town) but the girl who was working when i was here brought it down a notch for me. i had a handful of dresses in my arms and she kind of glared at me like "are you really gonna buy anything?"... she caught me looking back at her, put on a fake smile, and asked if she could start me a fitting room whatever. i tried on a bunch of stuff... picked up two of the dresses that were worth the money. actually, they were really cute. but the girl was snooty to me again when i was checking out, even when i tried to make conversation. maybe it was just an off day. i'll definitely stop back in, but if service is like that again i might reconsider. read more

My daughter and I stopped by this evening. She found a great pair of booties and an adorable wide brimmed hat. Think vintage Woodstock....great look for her. I purchased a velour jacket with cool floral lining. We were both pleased with our purchases. SO we liked our finds and you would think this means five stars right? Sadly NO. The two young sales women in the store were NOT friendly or helpful or accommodating. In fact I would go as far to say they need a crash course in social skills. If you work in a small boutique...especially one with a cool vibe and interesting merchandise you need to make an effort. Right????? Such a bummer that they were cold and perhaps a bit snobby. One of the few stores in existence where both my mom and I can find something we like. It is also one of the few remaining boutiques in Portsmouth that is reasonably priced. They carry some Free People and Kensie clothing, and have a small selection of jewelry, picture frames, and purses as well. Definitely a good stop when browsing around in Portsmouth. read more

I discovered this boutique as I was walking in Portsmouth today. They have a fun and varied selection of clothing, swimwear and lingerie. Some of the brands I recognized they carry are Kensie and Roxy. They had a great selection of sale items, some 50% off, so I was pleased with the prices. The full-priced items tend to be more expensive, especially the swimwear. read more

I have shopped at Serendipity several times and have been content with being left to do my shopping. Whenever I have asked for specific help, the staff has been helpful and friendly. However, I was called by my 15 year-old stepdaughter, who was shopping with a friend. She wanted my opinion on earrings and a bracelet, and told me that the girls working said they were too busy with other customers. When I got there, there were only three others in the shop. I told her that I loved the earrings but if she hadn't been treated courteously she should not spend her money there. She did purchase the earrings, at which point the girl at the register said, "You have been here awhile, is that really all you want?" I was really disheartened to see that she was being treated to poorly. I suggested we give Serendipity another try at some point to see if the experience may be different if others are working. I know that does make a difference sometimes. read more
