My blow out came out perfect. I had an event that day and every where else was booked so I'm glad they squeezed me in. The staff was really nice which made the vibe very welcoming. I was really nervous knowing I was going into a fancy hotel that I was going to get a snobby vibe but they were actually the opposite of that and were extremely nice and very welcoming. The only issue I had was the girl who answered the phone to make my appointment had a little bit of attitude but I understand they were booked and busy so it wasn't a big problem. I had a magical evening planned at the Magic Castle and booked dry style for me and a blow out for my friend who was visiting from out of town. They styled my hair incredibly. I've never been to one of these places before but I'm really glad I did! Needed "nice hair" for a photoshoot and was moderately amused by their slogan "Because you can't blo yourself". (Marilyn Manson begs to differ). You have to park at Trader Joe's and Blo will validate your ticket. I'm really happy with the blowout that Veronica gave me. All I said was "No prom ringlets, nothing ultra finished and stiff where I can't touch it" followed by a shrug of my shoulders because honestly, I dunno! She knew exactly what to do and called it a Round Brush Curl blowout. It turned out GREAT!!! Got tons of compliments. The only thing that leaves something to be desired is friendliness. I come from a service background and am pretty over the top with friendliness so maybe I'm particular. Maybe not. I actually only knew her name was Veronica because I eavesdropped her phone convo while shampooing me. It's official, after being a patron here for over 7 years, I won't ever go back to this establishment. The management team here is extremely unprofessional and always has been (see my prior review from 7 years ago) but I always looked past it because they usually did a great job with my thick, curly hair and I often could schedule an appointment with short notice. However, the last several times I have come, the stylists were new and didn't know how to handle my hair. When I went a few weeks ago, the women named Ayre (sp?) took forever to do my hair and it was obvious she didn't know how to do it. After over an hour, she ended up having to flat iron everything because it looked bad. It made it better and I did appreciate the scalp massage she gave me though and that she kept trying to make things right. At checkout is when things got really bad. There was one other person in the store who I guess was the night manager. I noticed him being super rude and curt to my stylist and I wasn't sure what that was about. And when she went to check me out for my service he rudely told her to clean and told me I was all checked out. When I asked how many blowouts left I had on my tab, he said he didn't know. I asked "isn't that what you used to check me out?". He said "no, I used the credit card on file and it's your fault for not telling me you had a tab". He was extremely rude. I explained that usually I get asked how I want to check out and that he should be telling me if he is going to charge my card. He didn't even tell me the amount of the charge. He finally ended up reversing the charge and said rudely "I want to go home now" I asked for his name because I was going to escalate the issue and he said his name was "none of your business". I said this is literally a business. I couldn't believe this man's extremely rude and unprofessional behavior. Finally he said his name was "Chris". (which I now know is Cristobal from reading other reviews). I told him that I was definitely going to escalate this issue and left. But it didn't stop there. While I waited for my ride out front, this man proceeded to yell out from inside the store calling me a "Karen" over and over again. I couldn't believe how rude and awful this man was being. When I did escalate the issue and asked for a refund on the remaining blowouts on my account, it took management nearly three weeks to confirm and they only refunded me partially. They said they suspended the man but tried to say that both parties caused the escalation which is ridiculous. If this man was even halfway professional, none of this would have happened. But it honestly doesn't surprise me. The day manager, Veronica, also is unprofessional and customer service is not her strength. They might do hair well but don't know how to run a business. It is clear that the unprofessional behavior is not addressed and is embedded in the culture from the top. I noticed it in on one of my first visits over seven years ago and it continues today. It's actually a relief to never have to do business with these people ever again. read more

Not sure if it was racist but, he was aggressive to my partner during the transaction and used a few slurs. She asked his name, and he said "Chris" Then called her afterward speaking in a harassing manner. This is dangerous and illegal behavior--lousy business. Went with my daughter to pamper her the night before a job interview. My stylist smelled like marijuana, the stylist my daughter had was rude. When my daughter's stylist was washing my hair (because my stylist was with another client) he kept wetting my face. I immediately covered it with my hands and he finally noticed that my face was getting wet. Instead of fixing the way he was washing my hair, he offered me a towel to cover my face. I mean unbelievable and so unprofessional. The salon's music was very offensive. I couldn't believe that was being played at a place of business. A rude unwanted comment was made about my face structure, (recently gained weight due to a medical condition) by the stylist. During our appointments, the stylist and I guess the manager had conversation that should not be discussed in front of clients. During check out, their Apple Pay terminal was not working and it was suggested by the stylist that I had insufficient funds. Not ok at all, as that was not the case. ALL of this would have been ok IF the hair styles would have held, BUT that was not the case at all! As soon as we got to our hotel, the curls were gone and hair was frizzy and stiff from all the hairspray that was used. I did leave feedback via email and got a response from the Operations Manager and apparently the franchise owner but when I responded back AND requested a reimbursement, all I heard back were crickets. Let me start by saying that I've gone to many blow out bars all across the country including Alabama and have had my hair done by all types of races as my hair isn't difficult to do. When I say they are so incompetent...For them to be based in one of the most diverse cities in the world and only know how to do one hair type is pathetic. I'm not sure how you spell the woman pictured but Beverlyn refused to do my hair because of my texture and stopped mid service to do a Latina woman's hair that came in for a touch up. Before I came here, I called to see if they do curly hair and told them my hair type. I asked if they had someone that knew how to do it AND wanted to do it. They asked my hairtype which is 3A. The receptionist recommend beverlyn. When I got there, I thought Beverly was an associate in the back that I couldn't see because she didn't greet me and I was waiting for a few minutes. Almost 15 minutes later, she introduces herself and says she will be doing my hair. As soon as I got in the chair, I asked Beverlyn if she could do it before getting started and she mentioned that she could but my hair was tangled. I told her if I knew it was tangled then I would've detangled it myself before coming because I had my niece with me and wasn't trying to be there all day. She asked her associate to help detangle it that's pictured. They were so unprofessional the entire time. Beverlyn said that her knees hurt and then the man was like "that's because you were on them all night long" and she responded saying that is "my business. " Both of them were having casual small talk about the homeless in the area and using lots of profanity even with my four year old niece with me. About halfway through detangling, the man was like "oh it's gone to be an additional fee for detangling" and I said to the woman that as soon as she realized that it was going to take longer then she should've made me aware of the fee up front instead of not telling me at all and relying on her associate to do it half way through. She immediately got up and stormed off and said she wasn't going to do it anymore and was going to just let me leave with it half wet and half straight. A second later a Latina woman came in and she touched up her hair so she literally just wanted an excuse to not do my hair and work on other Latina which was so racist. The manager asked me what I wanted to do and if I still wanted it done and I said yes because I was half way done and I told him my only issue was her not being forthcoming with the pricing early in the service. It wasn't about the fee but more so WHEN it was told to me and beverlyn said that the receptionist should've told me but ultimately and it still should've been something she communicated as I was her client but she obviously had an issue being accountable and using basic communication skills. While the manger is doing my hair, I asked him if he could use the flat iron that beverlyn was using because although I didn't like her attitude she did get it straight and I liked the flat iron. He told me that blo is a Canadian owned company and that he couldn't "get down" like a black woman and didn't have an oven or stove which was racist remark because I've never had to use either to straighten my hair the issue was that he just couldn't do it and instead of admitting it up front he chose to do my hair anyway and make these comments as he was finishing up. The end result looked terrible and I let him know that while I appreciate him trying to help after his coworker stormed off and had a tantrum the quality of my hair was poor. He offered Goldie doing a complimentary appointment tomorrow which I was cool with. I left and shortly came back trying to get the confirmation details written down for the complimentary appointment and this is when he just issues the refund so I'm thinking that was never a booking but he was just too afraid to say that and was trying to get me out of this face. I've been to this place before and had a great experience, but this time was different. I went to the Grammy's and decided to get a blowout for the occasion. I showed the woman who was assigned to me a photo of what I wanted (I have thick curly hair and just wanted a pretty straightforward blowout with curls on the bottom half - the photo I showed her was of me with a previous blowout style I had done before). Unfortunately I don't think she had much, if any experience with blowouts, because she blew out my hair completely straight and then tried to curl it. Nothing was working and another stylist had to step in and finish it, but the damage was already done. I spent 2 solid hours in the chair for a simple blowout, and in the end they sent me home with rollers in my hair. They didn't charge me, but by the time I got home the curls they ended up putting in with a curling iron were completely gone and I had stick straight hair that didn't look good, and I was now running late. i ended up having to spend a half hour at home curling my hair and didn't feel great about how I looked for such a special occasion. read more

This is my go-to place for special occasions when I want an updo, or a hairstyle that I can't do myself. Most times I have been able to book an appointment without any issues, as long as I call ahead 1-2 days in advance. I've even called the same day, and they were able to take me! I've never requested anyone specific, and each stylist I've had has done a pretty good job with my hair. Sometimes it seems like it's not coming out well in the beginning, but I always communicate and ask questions if I'm concerned and for the most part it has worked out in my favor. I've had a variety of hairstyles: updo for a wedding, an Audrey Hepburn hairstyle for Halloween one year, Betty Boop short curls this last Halloween, a 60's-inspired half updo for New Year's, and an old Hollywood glamour hairstyle done for my Roaring 20's housewarming party. Ask for extra hairspray or bobby pins if you'd like for it to last throughout the night. Most of the stylists here are nice and I've never had an issue about their customer service. I used to work in the beauty industry, so I get that with the high volume of clientele the stylists can feel exhausted from being overworked. With this knowledge, I've been able to appreciate their time and work. So if you feel they've done a good job on your hair, be sure to give them extra tip to make you look pretty!!
