I popped into Bloom Baking Company this morning at City Market and loved it. The bakery is bright with lots of natural light. The European-style case is filled with freshly baked pastries, breads, and desserts. I grabbed a croissant, and it was lightly crisp on the outside with soft, airy layers inside. Prices were reasonable for the quality, but worth every penny. The staff was warm and chatty, especially helpful in pointing out their favorites.

Lots of options, service was quick, ambiance is okay - not a place you stay to eat though. Sweets felt like they were day old, or more, but were still pretty decent tasting. Not sure I'd come back but glad I gave it a shot.

The pastry case on my last visit.

I am never there when there are a ton of bakery items on the shelves, and that is my downfall. But their savory croissants are worth the price every single time. The staff is kind, simply always busy. And good for them!

Purchased a cupcake, lemon bars, and a pastry as part of deal and everything was fresh and tasty. Everything made in the store. Located inside the city market. Very clean store with display cases of all the different types of pastries they offer.

This is the second of the flavored syrups we picked up over Thanksgiving. Can't wait to try them in water and baking.

Another one of our favorite stops in Kansas City. This bakery has some of the best cookies, breads, pastries, etc... The staff is great in helping you decide what you want. This trip my husband and I picked up a couple of flavored syrups to bring home(by the way the Prickly Pear Syrup I picked up in May, made for a great flavored water.I am looki g forward to trying the new flavors I brought back this trip). We also picked up a chocolate chip cookie, peanut butter cookie, cherry danish, and chocolate croissant( they made for a great snack during the football game we were watching while on our trip). Thank you to the staff for making our visit a great one. We look forward to see you on our next trip.

A better macaroon! The place to go in the River Market for a sweet treat and a coffee. They had a few gluten-free options, the service was kind and informative. The friendly atmosphere lent for good communication and community.

Lots of pastries and breads to choose from. They are lacking in infused or flavored butters which would probably be a hit to sell alongside the bread. Delicious challah here!

Visiting Kansas City for the first time ever and was Yelping for some macarons since my kids love macarons. Stumbled upon Bloom Baking Company because of their high reviews and walked out super upset and frustrated. Walked in with my daughter and had no welcome greeting by staff who was not busy. Found the macarons and asked the staff what flavors they had. She slams the display case door opens and names all the flavors and then slams it shut. I then requested for 2 chocolate flavors as my son was walking in the door. So the staff then takes out the tray of macarons and slams it on the counter and gives me my two macarons. My husband who only witnessed the macaron tray being slammed on the counter asked me what happened. seriously wanted to walk out of the store so badly because I was so annoyed with the service I was being provided. I didn't though because I already committed to getting my kids the macarons but man was I really bothered by the lack of customer service. I will NEVER EVER come back. I will NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone. If you want to be treated with decent service do not come here. The macarons are small and its $3.10 for one. Bloomy Baking Company you seriously left a bad experience during my short visit to Kansas City.

We felt so silly running all over Kansas City tasting cakes when Bloom was right around the corner from us the whole time! As beautiful as it was delicious, our 2-tiered wedding cake & dessert bar was conceptualized & baked by Bloom Baking Company. Our dessert bar included: mini tarts, macarons, brownies & lemon bars. Cake tastings are $25 & goes towards the price of the cake. After inquiring online & our tasting, Sarah quickly set-up an in-person meeting to review our ideas, make suggestions & put together an invoice. Sarah & her team were incredibly thoughtful & considerate of both our desires & budget. Thank you Bloom Baking Company for creating such a delightful dessert experience for us & our guests. Not a bite went to waste! Our only regret is not ordering more! Looking forward to the next time I can taste Bloom!

If you are browsing around and in search of a bougie baking company (and happen to be in City Market proper), hopefully you stumble upon Bloom. Bloom Baking Co is French owned and takes pride in their pastries but also, value their customers. The other day, I was meandering around and knew I was going to hit up a brewery that didn't serve food, so I quickly stopped by Bloom for a quick treat. I wasn't paying attention and must have walked in after 4pm (when they close) however, they were so accommodating and turned on the case lights and let me pick my goodie to-go. So, I was inclined to pick up two! First of all, the raspberry crumb triangle was one of my favorite bakery goods I've had in awhile. It was the perfect mix of tart and sweet and had so many fun textures. The crumb coating was almost like a granola, but the jammy raspberry layers were soft and moist. It had everything going for it! Well worth the $5. The homemade oatmeal cream pie stopped me in my tracks with its massive size so, I had to pick one up. The soft chewy cookie was fresh and had an incredible warm blend of spices and brown sugar. The rich creamy inside layer of cream cheese frosting was decadent and nostalgic. I loved this dessert. Anything I've tried from Bloom has been of the highest quality, and I love having it in City Market, it's like a little Pâtisserie right in Paris of the Plains!

In the storied enclave of Waldo, where the rhythm of Kansas City pulses with a quiet, neighborly…read morecharm, there stands a sanctuary not of silent stone, but of flour, butter, and memory: McLain's Bakery. To step through its threshold is to surrender to the siren song of warmth that curls from the oven like a whispered secret. I have made it my pilgrimage to traverse the entirety of their menu, a culinary odyssey that has yielded no false steps, only a symphony of consistency that borders on the miraculous. Each offering, from the flaky, golden architecture of their pastries to the robust, honest comfort of their savory fare, is a testament to the artisan's hand. Here, affordability is not a sacrifice of quality but a generous invitation, a rare confluence where the exquisite meets the accessible. There is a certain magic in the air at McLain's, a sweetness that feels woven into the very fabric of the establishment. It is a place that understands the language of comfort, speaking it fluently in the dialect of a perfect crust or the rich, dark notes of a expertly pulled espresso. It is perhaps no surprise that such a bastion of authentic delight has garnered a reputation that extends far beyond our local borders; if the standard of excellence is high enough to grace the plate of Taylor Swift, then surely, it is more than enough for us, the grateful residents who claim this treasure as our own. Yet, beyond the flour-dusted counters and the glowing glass cases, my deepest admiration is reserved for their spirit. In a world that often measures worth in cold, transactional metrics, McLain's chooses to honor those who pour themselves into the future of our community. As a teacher, I feel that recognition in the small gestures, the welcoming nods, and the genuine appreciation they extend to educators. It is a profound kindness, a recognition that the work of shaping minds requires nourishment, both intellectual and literal. They understand that a classroom is a marathon, and they act as the essential pit stop, providing the fuel that keeps the light of inquiry burning bright. To dine at McLain's is to participate in a ritual of belonging. It is a place where the passage of time is marked not by the ticking of a clock, but by the turning of the oven trays. It is a reliable heartbeat in the neighborhood, steadfast and true, offering a reprieve from the clamor of the outside world. Whether one seeks a quiet moment of reflection over a cup of coffee or a celebratory feast that honors the simple, profound joy of eating well, McLain's remains an unrivaled steward of taste. It is not merely a bakery; it is the living, breathing soul of Waldo, a place where every bite serves as a reminder that some things in this life are exactly as good as they ought to be.

A few months ago my sister and I hosted a baby shower for our other sister and after looking around an options we decided to go with McLains. It was a smaller group, and we were doing a brunch theme, and our sister LOVES sweets. That paired with our desire to support local, and our shared love of McLains, this was just the most obvious choice. We ended up ordering a cake and first of all I have to say their cake flavor choices are insane - I think we settled on a chocolate cake with peanut butter filling (YUM), but I don't think you can go wrong here. We also ordered one of their pre-set pastry bundles for pick up and honestly everything was wonderful. I think I placed the order about a week out and it was ready when I came to pick it up. What pushed this experience into five star category for me? Just the friendliness of the staff, the serving tools they send you home with, and how thoughtful everyone was. The food was also really just exactly what we needed and it was so good there were hardly any leftovers, I think the kids cleared us out by lunch! At any rate, if you're on the hunt for a great spot to support for your next brunch event consider McLains - they won't let you down!

The birthday cake one is premade, meaning you can't customize it (if you prefer fresh, bold espresso, I wouldn't recommend the birthday cake. It's very light/milky). It was OUTSTANDING! The cold foam balances out the bold espresso with a sweet, delicate blackberry flavor. I used to love going to Monarch before it closed, and this is the closest flavor I've found. As for bakery items, we had the orange cinnamon roll and a normal cinnamon roll and they were good as well. They have a fluffy bread texture and the frosting isn't too sweet.
