Just walked into this spot with my boyfriend. Girl waitress asked if we had a reservation and I said we didn't but we could make one since yelp had plenty of availability. She says "uhhhh I don't know we're busy" and walks away. Another waiter comes and he asks if we have a reservation because they can't take us without one, I tell him the same thing I told the other person and he looks at us like a deer with headlights. Don't know if it was a race thing but this was the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my life. What a letdown. My fiancé and I were so excited to try Bloom, but ultimately walked away fairly disappointed. We started with the Escargot, which was delicious, and the Rock Shrimp, which was just ok. I had the short rib for my entree, which was done very well. However, my fiancé had the stuffed squid (which she was excited to try all week). The presentation was below standard, the squid aioli was never added to the dish, and the squid itself was over cooked and chewy. We were able to get the squid ink aioli on the side from the waitress but it didn't add much to the dish anyway. We aren't picky or over critical of restaurants, but we both expected much more given the critical acclaim Bloom has received. 3/5 read more

Bloom is not just another fancy restaurant in the town. They serve unique and delicious gourmet dishes. All dishes were thoughtfully designed based on French and Korean foods. Every single bite was very delicious! My favorite was Bouillabaisse. I can tell Clams, Mussels, and fishes were really fresh and the broth flavor was strong, unique, and tasty! Mushroom Risotto was really rich and flavorful. Restaunt atomosphere is very mordern and facny. I would recommand this place for date night. Staff were very freindly and chef/owner Woo were came out from open kitchen and take all our question about foods and give us kind explanation for the beatiful dishes. Seeing that this place had such good reviews, I decided to come here with some friends for brunch. This place opens at 11am and since we didn't make any reservations, we got here 10 minutes before 11am and they sat us by the window. There was another group of 4 that was already seated, so this place wasn't packed at all... Our waiter was really nice and started us off with some waters while we looked over the menu. I ordered myself a decaf coffee and my friends ordered a cappuccino and a San Pellagrino soda. When my friend asked the waiter for the flavor of the soda, he told him that they don't carry the Pellagrino soda...(what? It's on your menu). He went back to the kitchen to check to come out with two flavors.. anyway- I ordered their pancakes which I was told will take about 15 minutes to make, which I assumed was a normal time to make anything in the kitchen, but ok. My friend's cappuccino came out about 10 minutes after ordering and my decaf coffee "ran out"? The waiter came out to tell me that they "ran out of decaf coffee"...at 11am... when the place just opened. Very odd, so I stuck to my water. About 15 minutes had gone by and our wings (kinda reminds of me bon chon chicken) and taco appetizers came out which were delicious! Both dishes had a mix of Korean and American kick to it which makes it really unique. A different waitress comes out after the appetizers came out to tell me that they had an issue with the pancake batter and suggested I ordered something else. GREAT. So I didn't get my decaf coffee AND I wouldn't be getting my pancakes because there's an issue- just what I want when I'm spending this much money on brunch. Not being very happy, I settled for the waffles. My issue is that I was told the pancakes take 15 minutes to make, only to have someone come out 20 minutes later to tell me the batter wasn't good? About an hour into waiting and seeing a larger group of family that came AFTER us get their food first, you can imagine how four adults, one being pregnant, and a four year old child can start getting HANGRY. After an hour of waiting, our food finally came out and their food is the only reason this place can get a 5 star. No one in my group complained about the food- from presentation to the unique taste and style of their menu, I think this place stays opened because of the food and the decor of the restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience today really didn't leave a good taste in my mouth when it comes to their service. I think I would come back for dinner with reservations to see how their dinner menu is- but not being able to eat/drink the items I ordered today was really off putting. Our waiter should probably study the menu a little bit more so when questions are asked, he can answer them with confidence. Service here is a 3 and the food is a 5. I had been wanting to go to Bloom ever since I moved to the area and MAN it did not disappoint! Everything was so delicious and perfectly prepared. For appetizers, we shared the chicken wings (both flavors were amazing) and the shrimp. For mains, we got the short rib, beef bulgogi with kimchi fried rice and the pork belly. The pork belly was INSANE. So tender and flavorful. Our friend loved the short rib. The bulgogi and kimchi rice was equally as good. Their portions are also really generous. Absolutely phenomenal I can't say better things about this adorable place, no lie. For starters, the owner and chef is in nicest man I've met. His hospitality and generosity was over the top. The service was outstanding and the food is to die for!! I have included pictures. Everything is home made and fresh and delicious.. Korean and French inspired cuisines. The lobster ravioli, out of this world. Huge chunks of lobster meat in them. And It was my second time in my life trying grilled octopus here and it was incredibly tastey with the pesto sauce.. My friend made the reservation to come here, and I'd not looked up the reviews prior to coming here, because if I had, I'd have asked to eat somewhere else. I now see several reviewers mention being rushed through their meals, and my experience was exactly that. It is a small place, but you don't expect to have your server give you all of two minutes to read the menu and decide your order and then proceed to run up to your table after every course to remove your plates literally as you're putting down your fork (it's not the server's fault as they're obviously being instructed to do this). I've never been an inconsiderate dawdler at restaurants. Usually I'm actually pretty paranoid about overstaying, because I know turning around tables swiftly enough is how these restaurants survive, but this was too much. As If it wasn't enough to be rushed through appetizers, entree and dessert, as we were still eating dessert (and after we'd been asked to pay our check while eating it), we were told by the hostess the next party with our table reserved was there. I've never in all my years eating out had to be asked to vacate a table for the next party. I'd honestly prefer it if they just set up a countdown clock on each table - at least that way clear expectations would be set from the second you sit down. Like I said, I get that it's a small place, but the food isn't good enough to warrant a return if it means eating under these conditions. On a separate note, they use a pretty strongly scented cleaning spray about every 15 minutes as they clean the tables of the other patrons they've also just rushed out. The scent only lasts a couple of minutes, but it's not exactly what you want to be smelling while you eat. read more

Gorgeous meal at Bloom! We were a large group with reservations for a late Friday night dinner and I can say without a doubt that we all had an exceptional experience. EVERYTHING we ordered was perfect! The chicken wings appetizer was superbly crispy and flavorful, the octopus was delicious and tender, and they served us the best Caesar salad dressing I've ever had! I ordered the Lamb Shank and it was phenomenal, not at all gamey. Fresh and fun decor. Great wait staff. The lovely Chef/Owner Joann even went out of her way to apologize to us for the short wait we had before being seated. She was so personable, we had absolutely no complaints. I just walked out of the restaurant 4 minutes ago and I'm fanatically typing up this review! My husband and I were celebrating one of our milestones, and we enjoyed one of the best meals we've had in a while. We started with the ROOT VEGETABLES SALAD which was a medley of potatoes, kabocha, parsnips, carrots, and candied pecans with a light dressing. Delish. Also got the SHISHITO PEPPERS which came lightly fried in a crispy batter. Wow. 12/10 would order again. My husband ordered the LOBSTER RISOTTO, and actually enjoyed it, which is saying a lot because he usually just eats to live, whereas I live to eat :)))) I had the MUSHROOM RISOTTO which was well-cooked and very well-balanced. I usually find that restaurants tend to over-salt their vegetarian dishes to compensate for the lack of flavor but this was not the case here!! Very pleasantly surprised. The only thing I would've added was some red pepper flakes for a little heat, but I prefer everything spicy. Lastly, we had the New York-style cheesecake with blueberry compote. Light and fresh, not dense at all. This is Korean fusion done right. So glad we were able to try Bloom and meet Chef Joanne, who warmly approached us during the meal to say hi and also offer an amuse bouche. Everyone around us seemed like regulars who greeted Chef Joanne and also the kitchen staff -- there's a great community feel here, and they've definitely made Korean and French food seem much more approachable. 4.5 stars. Been here 3 times now and the food is as good as any restaurant in the area. The escargot appetizer was the best escargot dish I've ever had. Also highly recommend the bulgogi entree as well as any fish entree. Service is excellent. They initially had some issues with temperature control the first summer and winter after opening which seem to have been fixed; the ambiance is very nice. Expensive but the quality of the ingredients, kitchen, and staff warrant it, especially when seemingly every other restaurant charges the same prices and is a significant step down from bloom. This was our first meal out since Covid and we were beyond happy and impressed. For appetizers we ordered the octopus and escargot. Both were delicious! Octopus had a nice char and came with cauliflower purée and a pesto reduction. Escargot was in a buttery pesto sauce with Parmesan cheese. YUM! Both were really delicious. The mains were out of this world! Monk fish with bacon risotto was so creamy, rich and filling. I was tempted to lick the plate because it was so good. The bulgogi was served in a cast iron with kimchi rice, herbs and a fried egg on top. Portions were all large enough to take home. BYOB which is a nice touch and there's a liquor store right across the street. We recommend Bloom to anyone who loves French and Korean food. Everything comes together here - the food is brilliant, the space is beautiful, the service is on point, and the atmosphere is classy but unpretentious. Everything I've tried on the menu both for dinner and their weekend brunch is creative and inspired and comes out expertly prepared. I was very impressed by what they do with appetizers and sides - soups, salads, and more substantial fare are made of fresh, high quality ingredients and are carefully presented. (Try the octopus if you're there for dinner.) The mains are fantastic - a sophisticated French/Korean fusion that is perfectly executed. Chef Woo came out to see his guests several times during my visits and is always a delight to talk with. If you want to experience a truly outstanding meal, Bloom is well worth a visit. read more

First, I'd like to start out by saying everything taste wise I had here was 5 stars. I was excited to try this restaurant as they have two top chefs here that have worked at top restaurants in NYC and in NJ. Plus I never dined at a Korean/French/NewAmerican restaurant before either. I wouldn't consider this French at all though, but more like NewAmerican/Korean restaurant. It's so unique, and that alone I say it's a must try! I ordered the organic yellow corn soup as an appetizer which was EXCELLENT! It was priced at $8, but I'd rather it be priced higher, and received a larger portion of it. It was rather small, but delicious! I originally wanted to order the lamb shank, but the reason I didn't order it Is because the portion looked small online. I had asked the waiter on the portion size on it, and he said the portions here are on the smaller size. That's one of the reasons why I'm rating it 4 stars and not 5. Portion size is important to me, and when people dine out in NJ when the portions are a nice size and the food is great the place is always packed. I then asked the waiter which dish was the largest portion on the menu, and he recommended the bulgogi with kimchi fried rice. That dish was a nice size dish as you can see in my picture. It was incredible! The bulgogi and kimchi fried rice was cooked to perfection, and was packed with delicious Korean flavor! After dinner I received the dessert menu, and really I'm not even sure why because none of the desserts were available only gelato! I was very disappointed because I looking forward to ending my meal with a house made dessert by a top chef. It's very important with a restaurant serving such excellent food to also be able to have house made desserts available to order as well. Every item that's listed on a menu should be available to order. I'm really excited to come back and try some more dishes at this unique restaurant in Verona! The only reasons I'm not giving it 5 stars is just because of portions tend be on the smaller size, and there were no house made desserts available when I went. Called to make reservation and they wanted me to give a credit card to hold the reservation. When I disputed it they said it was their policy so they don't lose money. If I didn't show up and they charged my card and then they filled the table anyway, I doubt I would be refunded...so they get double? And how do they value the table and know what to charge? I said "no thank you." and made a reservation down the street at Ariane. Not a good policy, especially for a new restaurant in an area where there are plenty of other restaurants that don't do that. Hard to believe people actually say ok to that. Stupid to lose a customer for that "policy". If they had agreed to waive the policy and take reservation without a credit card, I would have gone with a party of four, spent a lot of money and would go back in the future. Now I won't. Went here on a whim without a reservation on a saturday night few minutes before 7pm, and glad we got a seat even though we were told that we need to be done by 8pm since it was reserved which we gladly agreed since we wanted to try them. We finished before 8pm considering we got appetizers, entrees and desserts. Everything we had was astounding. The presentation, flavor and execution of each dish was well thought. It's definitely korean-french-american fusion. We got the iberico jamon (this is very addicting that will pair well with red wine), beef tartare (korean version), lamb shank (so tender), crispy monkfish that comes with squash risotto (does not have a fishy taste to it- my favorite!), and waffle with vanila ice cream for dessert. Was very satisfied with our meals. The entree portion is only good for 1 person which is perfect to not overeat. Price is within the mid range. The servers are nice and we also met one of the owners which is chef Joann who introduced herself to us as she gives the check. She was delightful. Definitely recommend them and will be coming back for brunch tomorrow. LOL! --------- Went back here for brunch and met the other owner Chef Woo, he was really nice and pleasant to talk to. He talked about the restaurant and their food. He also gave us a free sample of corn soup and the watermelon w/ cheese and candied pecan (very refreshing). We got the mushroom soup, spicy chicken sandwich, bulgogi cheese sandwich and cheesecake with blueberry compote for dessert. Everything was delicious and satisfying. This place will be our regular. We used to live in Montclair and were really excited to eat here. We had octupus for an appetizer which was very good. My wife had the bulgogi for her meal which was actually quite delicious. The flavor was good and the portion very large. We both got a chance to enjoy it. We both like spice so it could have been spicier but the flavor was still excellent. I had the lamb shank for dinner. This was the disappointing part of the meal. We asked the server if lamb shanks are cooked daily or every so often and the reheated. She said they were cooked daily. This is.kmportant because reheating a shank - I could just buy an old piece of lamb anywhere and reheaat it. J got the shank and it was clear to me that it was not freshly cooked. There were dry pieces of meat on the exterior which reminded me of a left over turkey leg a day or two after thanksgiving when reheated in the microwave. In addition to being not fresh, the flavor of the lamb was not that good. The meat had little taste. For dessert we had the cheese cake with blueberries. This was one of the best cheesecakes I've had in a while. Near the end of the meal we were greeted by the chef who was very friendly and made suggestions for food for our next visit which we appreciate. He let us know their most ordered dishes (bulgogi and short ribs). We had reasked the question about the shank and he confirmed they are not cooked daily. We think he could sense our unease/disappointment. When we were brought out cheesecake we were told it was on the house for our anniversary. It wasn't our anniversary so we can only assume it was for the shank. I would eat here again because aside from the lamb everything was excellent and the service was also good. Hopefully we will increase the number of stars on next visit when trying other dishes and I would recommend not reheating shanks in the future. If the food needs to be reheated for serving maybe it should just not be on the menu. read more

Wonderful charming restaurant. Food was so good. I had the Korean Sweet Potato Veloutte soup that was super hot and super good which I love. Still thinking about the soup days later. Also had the Kimchi Gratin and it was the perfect mix of spicy and cheesy. My friend had the soup onion soup and cod and couldn't stop talking about how good they both were. I did some research for restaurants around the area, and I saw that Bloom was a new restaurant that had just opened. I decided to make reservations for Mother's Day, which was smart, because it seemed to be packed. The space is very small, and the chairs were a little too squished together. The decor is very clean and modern. Chef Joanne herself came out and introduced herself, and she even gave us a complimentary taste of a bruschetta dish. I thought it was very light and fresh. For appetizers, we ordered the escargot and the beef tartare. Both of these appetizers were delicious. The escargot ($13) was creamy and flavorful. It came with little pieces of toast to dip in the sauce. The beef tartare ($17) was one of my favorite items of the night. The crispy farro added a nice crunchy texture, and the quail egg and sesame oil added nice flavor. For main entrees, we ordered the short rib ($29), the pork belly ($25), and the ribeye ($39). My favorite of the three was the short rib. It was extremely tender, and it went well with the carrot purée and sweet caramelized carrots. The one issue I had with it was that it was a little salty. The pork belly was crispy, and the couscous really balanced it out. We ordered the ribeye medium rare, and it was very delicious. The only issue was that it was a little too fatty. We also decided to try the kimchi fried rice side dish ($6). It came with an egg on top, and it was decently spicy. I could really taste the fresh kimchi in it. For dessert, we decided on the strawberry parfait cake ($7). It was light, fresh, and fluffy- the perfect end to the meal. Overall, I think they're still working out a couple things including customer service. The prices are a bit high, but the quality is definitely up there. Everyone was very welcoming and not pretentious at all. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a nice restaurant if you want to try something new and exciting! read more

The service was lousy. Our server was not interested in serving us. Had to ask him multiple times to just give us a ice bucket. He would come and ask if we are okay but before we can give a reply he would just leave. Food was subpar. Kimchi Fried rice with beef was okay. Beef was dry and flavorless. OK, i went out of my way to go to this restaurant based on the reviews and i have to say i was disappointed. The food was amazing, we had the bloom mushrooms, the octopus, the bulgogi, the scallops and the short rib. Do not go to this place if you have any food allergies, my wife is gluten free and dairy free. My wife was told the Glass noodles were gf then 10 minutes later they said that it had soy sauce. Nothing is dairy free or can be made dairy free, anything that has puree has dairy. Do not come if you have food allergies! The tables are so close your personal space is invaded all the time. It caused us to talk to other tables because our chairs were so close that the waiters cannot walk through. The place is beautiful but if i knew these other issues i would not have went. There is one waitress i think her name was cheryl and another waiter with glasses on that seemed to make the best of it. Cheryl seemed to have details about the menu and food but after being introduced as our waitress was replaced by another waiter which we had communication issues, we could not ask any questions. Even the french fries have gluten. They came back a few times with more info about our meals making them different every time. Anyone else could not give details about the ingredients that we could understand including the chef. Also there is no parking except for very lucky people. It took so long to get our food, we sat around 6:05pm and barely got out by 8:15pm and people were lined up for the 8pm sitting.
