Samgyubsal Dupbap in a hot stone bowl with an egg
Mylene T.

Can't believe I never left a review for Koreander. It's my go to spot in Montclair when feening for Korean food. Service is great! Parking is off street parking but I usually don't have a hard time finding one. Waiting for the food they give you a complimentary soup, radish, kimchi and a potato app. As for food, my favorites is the Bimbimbap with Pork Belly, Bulgogi Dupbap and Samgyubsal Dupbap. Make sure to order it in a hot stone bowl with black rice and an egg. This is what I always get with a side of Koreander Iced Tea. When the kids are with us they always give them a Choco Pie for free. You can call to reserve if you have a large party. Definitely give it a try.

Wall while waiting for takeout order

Friday night in Montclair, I was staring at Steven Tyler's face at Koreander.... his picture is on the wall and I was waiting for my takeout order. Our plans changed from a sit-down meal to takeout at home, so I stopped into this Korean eatery on my way home from work to pick up some delicious comfort food to share together. With my vegetarian meal companion, here is what I ordered: - bibimbap (great seasoning on these fresh assortment of vegetables - with that tasty fried egg!) - veggie japchae (make sure to order the veggie one, the regular has beef) - soondubu chigae (the spicy broth and extra silky soft tofu makes this one of my fav comfort food meals) The waiter who took my order was on point. I had placed my order there with him, paid, and then came back to pick up. The place was bustling when I was there. Despite the business, he remembered and called me by my name and handed me the bag, ensuring I had a good hold onto it. Also, while I was staring at Steven Tyler/waiting, the owner also checked in on me and made sure I was taken care of. Warm, friendly customer service here. No wonder the place was packed on a Friday night - delicious food and good vibes. Recommended!

Something quick but I'm always driving past this place and never really considered going here but one day I said "fuck it." Had a taste for some Korean food. It's a decent sized restaurant. Food came out piping hot and that's always good. Waiter asked me how spicy I wanted between 1-5 and I picked a 3 and wished I picked a 5 honestly. I have nothin bad to say about this place.

So glad I passed by here! I've never been to a Korean restaurant like this, so the server was very kind and patient when I asked questions. Ambiance was really nice too. :) I ended up ordering Soondubu Chigae with beef, and it was one of the best delicious meals I've had. I absolutely enjoyed it so much that I would've eaten the whole thing if I could, but I ended up having to take a bit home as the serving was too much for me (which is a great thing!!). Price wasn't bad at all for what you get as well. I truly can't wait to go back and order the same thing (a bit more spicy if possible) as the broth was so rich ++ more!!!

Pretty average food, with Fort Lee nearby this isn't on the radar at all. The banchan was limited with just kimchi, potatoes, and pickled radish which were all quite bland. The soondubu was not bad and the portions were large but it was still considerably pricey for what it was. Space was small but service was attentive enough.

Seafood pancake

It is located in Montclair, right in the center of town. We had just finished walking through the Van Vlech gardens and wanted lunch. We started with the miso soup, seafood pancake, and the pickled dishes that the restaurant serves. The pancake was delicious. It had pieces of octopus, fish, and shrimp. It came with a soy dipping sauce. The pancake was the size of a personal pizza. We ordered the beef bulgogi and the chicken dupbap in a heated stone bowl. Both dishes had great flavor, and the portions were big. They have a variety of no. Alcoholic drinks to choose from. Service was friendly and quick. Will definitely come back to enjoy another great meal.

I love the owner of Koreander. He's so friendly and funny. Koreander has a small interior but the walls are covered in photos which is very sweet. My friend and I were itching for Korean BBQ and Koreander did not disappoint. I had the bulgogi spicy, level 4 to be exact. It was spicy but still flavorful. Before our meal, they brought out small plates including kimchi and they also gave us delicious soup. My friend got the galbi which he enjoyed and the Koreander iced tea which he really enjoyed.

Very good Korean food here at Montclair. Been saving this place for a while and finally got a chance to visit. There is street parking only and inside can seat more or less 35 people. Service was quick and I see some ordering for pickups. For our dinner, I tried their pork belly and squid as thats usually my go to for korean rice bowls. The Pork Belly and Squid Dupbap was really flavorful and filling. The mixture was so good especially with good quality rice. You can actually have it served in a hot stone for an additional $2. The Manduguk was good too but I wished there was something like noodle in it lol not sure if you can request to add. The dumplings were also all vegetable. Would have been nice to have a meat one. For the banchan, by the way, others places probably would have more choices offered so the 3 that we had which was potatoes, kimchi and radish didnt seem like much. Still better than nothing but you know. Anyway, there really not a lot of Korean spots by Montclair i dont think, so Koreander is a good place to have some while around the area.

We started with the Seafood jeon... a seafood pancake... which had a lot of seafood and was served crispy and hot. I ordered the 'Stir fried spicy squid' which had lots of squid in a very tasty sauce. My wife ordered the Tofu soup with kimchi and pork... pretty much a staple when we order Korean. As I said, everything was very good... the ambiance as well as the service we got from Alex. I'm sure we'll be back to this BYOB

Not really a big deal though as he was also very polite. Japchae appetizer was good but we mentioned one of our companions was vegan and so no meat, just veggies, but the egg wasnt omitted. for my main, i got their pork belly kimchi hot stone. It was a generous portion however I dont think I'll get that again only because I prefer my pork hotstone savory rather than sour from the kimchi. The kimchi gave that tanginess. Still cleaned up my plate though lol. The MangoAde was delicious though and im glad i went with that. Next time il have to try the pajeon or tteokbokki and perhaps another porkbelly just without the kimchi mixed in it.

An amazing time per usual. The server was nice but a bit slow in checking in on us for refills or…read moremore napkins. However, the appetizer bar and sauces always help to elevate the hot pot and this is one of my favorite locations because of how much they offer. I will definitely be visiting again when I'm back in the area.

Wow! What a new experience for us! Means I have seen Hot POT places many times across the shores,…read moreand though they don't give a vibe from outside (IMO), but once you step inside, it's a whole different world. Kearny KPOT has almost ~13K reviews on Google with a 4.9 rating, which means just wow! So we decided to go there instead of our nearby Parsippany location. The first thing that disappointed us was the waiting time. They only take reservations for parties of 6+, and we ended up waiting about 70 minutes, with a kid along with us. Since we had already driven 35 minutes, we decided to stick it out. We got the A2 table. Our server, Pickel Rick, explained the whole Hot Pot + BBQ concept. We chose both options together--and the whole table has to agree on the same setup (so one person can't do only hot pot while another does only BBQ...Come on, they are smart too Hot pot was $32 and +$5 more and you can have both= means $37 per person + tax... The BBQ grill lets you control the heat, and the induction keeps your hot pot soup warm. Ordering is all done through a tablet on the table. This is an all-you-can-eat thing, any meat (Pork, Beef, seafood, chicken, Lamb) for BBQ... and you can increase/decrease the temperature of the BBQ. So it's all sorted out! Induction is there to keep your soup/pot warm, order any type of noodles (Ramn-Rice-Pho to add in your soup with all veggies, dumplings, and whatnot, so keep ordering from the tab they give you to order. They have a big selection of meats, seafood, veggies, and sauces. The quality is decent, and the food comes out quickly. The hotpot broth has good flavor, and grilling the meats at the table is enjoyable. It's basically a "cook your own food" style, so it's fun if you like that kind of thing. It was a fun experience, ordering chicken/prawn/jumbo prawns/ lamb/ dumplings = putting it in soup or into BBQ platter... some got less cooked, some were well, and some I am gonna call "well done" We were there for about 2 hours, which is actually their time limit. They even mentioned you get a small refund if you leave early (first time hearing that!). Also, if you're celebrating a birthday with a group of 6+, the birthday person eats free. That's a nice perk! Great, hearing this first time... There is also a sauce bar station - for all sauces, fried rice, Fries, and Fruits Service can get a bit slow when the place is packed--we had to wait for forks/spoons at one point. But overall, it's a fun place to go with friends or family, especially if you like trying something different.
