Found this place walking around the block trying to figure out what to eat for dinner and while the place was packed, they were able to squeeze us in. When a larger group left we were moved to a bigger table to accommodate how much food we order haha. The husband/wife duo owners were so sweet and so happy to see us enjoying their food. The portions were huge we ended up taking a lot home so the bang for your buck here is wild. So happy to see more Korean restaurants opening up outside of Ridgefield/Pal Park/Fort Lee. read more

One of my favorite Korean BBQ spots in the Jersey area. I came here solo and enjoyed the Galbi but then brought my team a few weeks ago and we all enjoyed some delish Korean food. Ordered: Bibimbap Seafood pajeon. It was amazing and delicious. The bowl was hot and the rice was crispy on the bottom. There were plenty of toppings and the meat was perfectly cooked. The seafood pajeon was also very fluffy and crispy and it had alot of seafood bits in it! Everything was good but I wish that the they enhanced the flavors of the sauce & the sides. The dip for the pajeon was too mild for me and the kimchi too. But aside from that it was great. The staffs were also very knowledgeable about the menu. It can be busy on evenings. Id definitely go back to try their different dishes!! Can't believe I never left a review for Koreander. It's my go to spot in Montclair when feening for Korean food. Service is great! Parking is off street parking but I usually don't have a hard time finding one. Waiting for the food they give you a complimentary soup, radish, kimchi and a potato app. As for food, my favorites is the Bimbimbap with Pork Belly, Bulgogi Dupbap and Samgyubsal Dupbap. Make sure to order it in a hot stone bowl with black rice and an egg. This is what I always get with a side of Koreander Iced Tea. With my vegetarian meal companion, here is what I ordered: - bibimbap (great seasoning on these fresh assortment of vegetables - with that tasty fried egg!) - veggie japchae (make sure to order the veggie one, the regular has beef) - soondubu chigae (the spicy broth and extra silky soft tofu makes this one of my fav comfort food meals) The waiter who took my order was on point. So glad I passed by here! I've never been to a Korean restaurant like this, so the server was very kind and patient when I asked questions. Ambiance was really nice too. :) I ended up ordering Soondubu Chigae with beef, and it was one of the best delicious meals I've had. I absolutely enjoyed it so much that I would've eaten the whole thing if I could, but I ended up having to take a bit home as the serving was too much for me (which is a great thing!!). Love this place. I've been coming here for years and just realized I never left a review. I've brought friends here and they loved it so much they would travel from over 1/2 hour away just to get their food for takeaway. My go to is the veggie ramen which is a bit on the spicy side. Perfect for when I have a cold or when it's chilly outside. My husband loves their chicken wings with the sweet and spicy sauce. The people who work here are lovely. Pretty average food, with Fort Lee nearby this isn't on the radar at all. The banchan was limited with just kimchi, potatoes, and pickled radish which were all quite bland. You know what, I wasn't even hungry but as I was heading to my barber across the street and waiting at the stoplight to cross, a friendly Korean man said "hello how are you doing?" while organizing the seating outside the restaurant. I decided to stop by after my haircut to try this place out and it did not disappoint! Now there's a lot of good Korean food in the bay and especially in Southern California but this spot is good! I only ordered a kimchi jjigae and it came with a few typical banchan - kimchi, pickled radish, and stir fried potatoes. The kimchi jjigae had rice cakes in it so it was extra filling. It was delicious and had more of a homestyle flavor to it. I am interested in trying more of their dishes as you usually can't go wrong with kimchi jjigae. read more

I love the owner of Koreander. He's so friendly and funny. Koreander has a small interior but the walls are covered in photos which is very sweet. My friend and I were itching for Korean BBQ and Koreander did not disappoint. I had the bulgogi spicy, level 4 to be exact. It was spicy but still flavorful. Before our meal, they brought out small plates including kimchi and they also gave us delicious soup. Very good Korean food here at Montclair. Been saving this place for a while and finally got a chance to visit. There is street parking only and inside can seat more or less 35 people. Service was quick and I see some ordering for pickups. For our dinner, I tried their pork belly and squid as thats usually my go to for korean rice bowls. The Pork Belly and Squid Dupbap was really flavorful and filling. The mixture was so good especially with good quality rice. You can actually have it served in a hot stone for an additional $2. The Manduguk was good too but I wished there was something like noodle in it lol not sure if you can request to add. The dumplings were also all vegetable. Would have been nice to have a meat one. For the banchan, by the way, others places probably would have more choices offered so the 3 that we had which was potatoes, kimchi and radish didnt seem like much. Still better than nothing but you know. Anyway, there really not a lot of Korean spots by Montclair i dont think, so Koreander is a good place to have some while around the area. read more

Came here because we were craving for some Korean food apart from our go-to korean fried chicken, kimchi fried rice. The vibe is very homey and rustic. Service was also good, granted that it wasn't busy on a Friday lunch time. However... the food left us dissatisfied. We ordered the soy garlic korean fried chicken which was recommended by the server. The flavor was just ok, but it wasn't crispy/crunchy. We also ordered the Samgyupsal which we thought was the grilled pork belly but it came out as a stir fry with sauce. It was also ok, but not what expected. We also got bibimbap, which usually comes in a hot stone if you're dining in an authentic korean restaurant, but in this place, you have to pay $2 extra to get it in a hot stone. Over all, it was ok. I was allowed to sit on a bench during my wait, probably because it was a week night. There were plenty of pick up orders, phone calls to place pick up orders and a party dining in. I'm not sure if they deliver. The wings were decent but my favorite was the kimchi! Now that was homemade kimchi! A bit sweet and just right. I would have to go back to try their other dishes and definitely placing the order for pick up. There is a municipal lot on N Fullerton Avenue then turn right and you're in. I ordered the soup and wings, wow was I happy. The soup was rich and filled with flavor--also not overly salty. It met every craving that I had. The sweet and spicy wings were also yummy. I will say, I was a little disappointed because they were smaller than expected and were a bit salty. I wanted more of a spicy kick but got more of the sweet and salty vibe. Lately I been into wanting to try new foods and my friend suggested Koreander. I had an amazing time and trying a new dish!When my friend and I walked we got seated right away. The restaurant is pretty small and intimate and was filed with customers dining in with family or just taking food to go. We were offered 3 types of Kimchi which is a sautéed cabbage as we sat down and offered water as well as other drinks. After the waiter gave us Miso soup which was complimentary along with the Kimchi. He then took our order and we ordered 6 piece wings with the garlic soy sauce and I ordered the Bibimbap which was a rice bowl which vegetables and an egg on top. I also got my dish in a heated stone bowl which allowed for the rice to cook while you eat and gave it a crispy consistency. I absolutely loved that. My friend orders the Bulgogi Dupbap which I tried and it was so flavorful. Overall my experience here and trying this new dish was 5 stars and when I go back I will order the Bulgogi Dupbap! Last minute birthday brunch celebration for party of 9 and they happily accommodated! BYOB. We were seated quickly and upon my immediate request they brought us glasses for the prosecco bottles. Shortly after they brought korean pickings (kimchi etc..) to the table for us to pick while sipping bubbly. Table presentation was simple and cute. Silverware was wrapped in little paper covers (little things count). Most of us ordered the bulgogi with different variations: -white rice vs black rice -spice levels from 1-5 -additions such as fried egg -kids version Also ordered: -scallion pancakes -korean bbq wings -ramen -squid bulgogi EVERYTHING was delicious. The hot pots kept the food nice and heated! Loved the white rice and black rice. I prefer the beef bulgogi over the squid bulgogi. The bbq wings were yummy but i like mine a lot more stickier and saucier. Everything was cooked perfect. 5 minutes after clearing pur plates the lights dimmed, music turned down and sirens went off. The staff walked out with 2 birthday cakes and candles while singing their rendition of happy birthday!! The owner/chef came out as well to meet the birthday celebrants. What a nice experience. The food here is great! They do doordash to Montclair but unfortunately not my way in Nutley so we did a pick up yesterday. We always order the same - the short ribs and spicy pork both with white rice. They all come with small apps to pick on and two small soups. We also tried for the first time the wings with soy garlic and i must say it wasn't so special. Probably wouldn't add that to order the next time. COVID 19 UPDATE: Koreander is a very cute Korean BYOB restaurant in Montclair. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor they have two tables- for 4 and 2 people. Indoor they seat everyone alternatively. They follow COVID protocols. We reached early at about 6:45 PM on a Saturday and got a table outside. By 7:45 they were at their current maximum capacity. The staff never came to our table without sanitizing. We requested them to clean our table once we arrived for mental satisfaction and they did it with a smile. Nice a friendly staff. TIP: They offer a varied spice level (1-5). We opted for 4 which was decently spicy (my spice level is high). 3 is average/medium spicy. What we ordered: Veggie Mandu: these are vegetarian dumplings filled with carrots, onions and mushrooms. They are so minutely chopped that we they blend really well. They are deep fried and served with a sour-sweet sauce Tofu Dubbap: Absolutely loved this stone bowl. It had glass noodles, onions, tofu, coriander and green onions in a nice spicy sauce. You could taste the chili and garlic in the sauce. It was comfortable for one person. Neither light nor heavy. Vegetable Bibimbap: Tried this lovely Bibimbap. It doesn't come spicy but you can request for their famous "hot condiment" to make it spicy. It comes with 7 different vegetables. It's got scallions, mushrooms, tofu, rice, carrots and a few greens. If you like sautéed veggies in a nice flavorful sauce, this is the one. You can taste veggies more than the gravy. So for all sautéed food lovers, this one is perfect. They serve three complimentary condiments: 1. Kimchi : a nicely made regular kimchi (P.S - this is made in fish oil. So if you are vegan/vegetarian, probably you can skip this) 2. Raddish: Raddish is nice and sweet. Instead of feeling hot, it was soft and sweet. Enjoyed munching till our food arrived. Great marination 3. When I placed my order I felt like the waiter was not listening, I repeated myself and he was just rushing me and grabbing the menu out of my hand. I slowly explained that I wanted a very specific order because I dont like onions and I have ordered the same dish every time I go there so I wanted to be clear. He continued to brush me off and walked off and I just knew what was about to happen. My order came and it was full of onions, I called him over and asked him to please bring us bowls with no onions as we clearly had asked. He turned beet red and aggressively grabbed the bowls, dropping the chopsticks in my bowl onto my lap. I grabbed the bowl and told him to please calm down but he was clearly upset and stormed into the kitchen. We then waited 20 minuted for our food to come back out and the bowl was half empty and had no veggies at all, only beef and rice, it was bland and not my usual favorite dish. The other waiters ignored us when we asked for a ginger ale and looked at him nervously every time we asked for something. as if he had instructed them not to help us. It was an awful experience and although I have always loved it here I will never ever go back. the owner is usually there and he is lovely but he needs new staff. read more

I've been here many times but I've only had two dishes. Bibimbap in the hot stone bowl is so delicious. Fragrant and just....compelling. I love the way the rice on the bottom chars a little and gets chewy. Just..yes. The other dish I had was Kimchi Chigae. I tasted it when a friend ordered it and had to go back for more. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Like all Korean restaurants, they fill the table with little dishes of kimchi and pickled vegetables to snack on while you wait for your main course. They also sell homemade kimchi to take out. The understated decor is tidy and clean but still has the authentic vibe of an urban Korean restaurant, even though its in Upper Montclair.
