Very fair prices, free bags for storing cherries, ample ladders for picking cherries high up, and gave us a pound for free, so best cherry picking experience we had so far in the area.

Many of the U-pick orchards are the same and allow you to pick using their buckets and hangout in the fields to enjoy the day. Bloomfield didn't have extra amenities like food and water and picnic tables, but it did have porta-potties and ample parking. Plus the trees were all low and many ladders available in the field for the higher cherries. By the week after Memorial Day, the Bings will be gone and you'll have Raniers, SweetHearts, and Lapins. Pro Tip - got to the very back of the field and grab a ladder. Pick the whole stem so that they last longer and place in a cooler when you get back to the car to beat the heat. Pro Tip2 - Arrive at opening 9:00 am to beat the crowds. One of the highlights was a young teenage parking attendant working the big dirt lot who smiled, danced, helped Kids with their sunblock, and offered to take the tag off my wife's new hat. If you see her, say hello and give her a compliment. We have her a tip because of her infectious enthusiasm. Helped make our day.

As with all Cherry farms, it ain't cheap but it's fresh! We came here around 0930 hours and the place was pretty packed. No entrance fee and staff will give you instructions not to pull the leaves. You do pay a premium but the cherries are good. We easily spent $60 here and finished it all in under two days!

Another great year for Bloomfield Cherries I've coming here for years along with my family and friends. Always being greeted with warm friendly staff! These cherries have always been delicious and sweet and big and plump! Very easily accessible they provide everything you need for picking your cherries , buckets, ladders, liners to hold your cherries in to take home! Their prices have always been very reasonable and consistent with surrounding area. The Bloomfield's are a fourth generation farmers family! I actually have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with family members on all of my visits to pick my cherries! I highly recommend Bloomfield Cherries for your next visit to get your cherries

    $3.50/lb as of 5/30/18!

Welp, I meant to write this review before cherry picking season ended, but my lazy bum didn't get to wordsmithing soon enough. So I guess this review will help all my peeps who decide to come here in 2019. My best friend is an OG cherry picker with roots from her childhood. In the past, when the climate was more supportive of plentiful bounty, cherry farms would be open for multiple weekends. Now, with the drought these past few years, the yield has been much smaller--coupled with high demand, the cherries tend to be picked within a week or two. We didn't make it to Bloomfield's opening day on May 12th, so she made it a priority to haul butt to Bloomfield on a re-opening day, May 30th, where Rainier cherries were ready for the picking. Their hours are 9am - 5pm, so we woke up bright and early on a Wednesday morning to fill our buckets with beautiful cherries. We rolled in around 9am to no entrance fee, where only a few people had started their early morning cherry picking before us. The lady pointed us to where the Rainier cherry trees were, we grabbed empty buckets, and we were off to the races. We were immediately blindsided by the plentiful and beautifully red Bing cherries, so it took us 30 minutes to get to our senses and trek farther back toward the Rainier cherries. Any remaining ladders, which are scattered throughout the farm, were all in the back, so we each grabbed one and lugged it with us as we slowly started backtracking our way to the entrance. My friend gave me the tip for Rainier cherries--look for the apple red cherries that aren't too pockmarked (cherries that get better sunlight, like at the top of branches, get redder and sweeter), and pick the cherries with stems attached to keep them fresh longer. At 11:30am, we finally left a much more crowded farm with a combined 28lbs of sweet, delicious, crisp cherries at $3.50/lb. Other pro tips: -Bring a burlap bag or sturdy reusable bag to help carry your big bag of cherries from the car to your home. -Keep your cherries out of heat on the drive home. When you get home, place your cherries in air-tight containers lined with paper towels to absorb excess moisture. This helps keep the cherries fresher longer, e.g., my cherries kept really well for 2 weeks in the fridge, though some bruising is beginning to happen as I approach 2.5 weeks from picking. My friend also washes her cherries before storing them, but I was too lazy to do it. -We saw one family bring scissors to cut the stems shorter to save money without compromising freshness. -The Bloomfield Cherries webpage and Facebook page are great places to track open days. Would totally come back next year, hopefully on opening day!

Low hanging sweet cherries only at Bloomfield Cherries

Welcome to 2018 Cherry picking season! This is my straight 5th year going to U-pick farms, but going to Bloomfield was the first time and it was yesterday. Parking was easy, was greeted very well, trees are full of cherries. Yes they are sweet cherries. The best ones are in the back as usual. No ladders needed as of now, but might need later on. Kids had fun since it was not too crowded and not too warm and easy low hanging sweet cherries. Price is as usual $3.5/lb. Size of cherries is not too big but taste is excellent. Definitely would go again and also would highly recommended. My car needed a jump start and was helped by management. Highly appreciate they took time to help me out

Love the ladders- all the good stuff is at the top.

We've enjoyed the experiences we've had at Bloomfield cherries. They don't charge an entrance fee, you don't need to bring your own buckets, and they have abundant parking. They have both Bings and Rainers but the Bings get picked out pretty quickly - within the span of a month. So if you want to go and like sweet cherries, go in May. It's had to say how they compare to the tons of other cherry picking places because we haven't tired any others, but we will probably continue to go to Bloomfield in the future!

Are pesticides used on the trees or fruits?

Hello. We do use pesticides, only when needed. We have a invasive fly from southeast Asia that was introduced into our environment awhile ago, and if we do not spray for it, the fly lays eggs inside of the cherry and will cause them to rot. Hope… Read more

Later on, we found out that section was already out of season. As we walked farther, we finally saw much better cherries, but most of the good ones were way too high to reach and there were no ladders available. There were some lower branches, but the cherries there were not great in quality, so we ended up picking only around 3 lbs. We then decided to switch to the peach and nectarine area hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately there was barely anything good to pick. Most of the fruits were either overripe, damaged, or already picked over. Overall, it felt like the farm should have better guidance on which sections are still worth visiting before customers pay and spend time walking around in the heat. The staff was fine, but the overall fruit quality and picking experience were disappointing for us this visit.

I go pick cherries at Chavez once a year for 7-8 years now. I wake up very early and try to get there right when they open so that I don't get stuck in traffic. It can get crowded. During the fall, they offer other U-Pick fruits, such as pomegranates, persimmons, and kumquats. Last weekend, we decided to try out their persimmon U-Pick. I initially found out about when their persimmon U-Pick would be available through an Instagram comment (there weren't any lnstagram posts or events on their website directly advertising this year's persimmon season), but I also double-checked by calling them the morning of before making the trek to Brentwood. The front of the farm area is a little store front, where you can buy fresh produce that's been harvested directly from the farm. This is also where you weigh your fruits after picking them. After completing the liability form via QR code, they drive you and your guests on a jeep to the fruit trees (and back). During the short drive to the persimmon trees, we also spotted baby cherry trees, a couple of pomegranate trees, and what appeared to be a grapefruit tree. As for the persimmons, there were about 5 Fuyu trees and 2 Hachiya trees. There were plenty of Fuyus available for us to pick. On the other hand, the Hachiya trees were quite bare so we only ended up finding and picking one that was ripe enough. At $4/lb for both varieties of persimmons, we ended up paying around ~$17 for 12 persimmons. The persimmons that were ripe enough to eat were nice and sweet. Getting the U-Pick experience without the summer heat and with reasonable prices was great. The only downside to this experience was the abundance of ants on the trees. The ants got on my hands, clothes, and even my face and the top of my head. The ants didn't appear to affect the quality of the fruit, since they were mainly on the branches and the tops of the persimmon leaves. I wasn't afraid of getting ants on me, but it was starting to get bothersome having to swat the ants away from my body and the persimmons I picked. I thought I had gotten rid of all the ants before leaving and getting into my car, but throughout the ride home, I spotted some straggler ants on my lap and arms, and even on the windshield! So take that into consideration if you're not particularly fond of ants.
