What I bought: A pint of cherry tomatoes for $5.00. I have not eaten them yet, but they are beautiful and of various colors. A single medium size tomato for $3.00. Three peaches for two dollars. Two of them were completely bland and had to be thrown away. They had no peach flavor at all. All three had bad spots. So I had about one half of a peach for two dollars. 8 ounces of lemonade for $3.25. This felt like a rip off, but I needed a cold drink on a hot day. Two cute little pears for $1.48. This ended up being the best buy. they were perfectly delicious. Very little of what is sold here is organic, which seems to be a statewide problem for grocery stores and farmer's markets in Indiana. The refrigerator had a badly rotten peach and an open can of cat food on the bottom shelf, which gave me serious concerns about the hygiene of this place, as if someone is not paying attention to detail when it comes to cleaning and maintenance.

One such activity is visiting apple orchards and sampling the many varieties of apples and apple adjacent treats. On a sunny fall day, after visiting I.U., I traveled a little bit out to Slaughter and was greeted warmly by the proprietor. I learned that they were the parents of the owners and were looking after the place for a bit. Upon entering the farm market, I was presented with wonderful displays of apples, ciders, apple butter, and of course, cider donuts. Samples were offered up on many of their wares, and was able to taste one of their unique apple varieties as well as one of their hard ciders. Of course, I left with several bags worth of goodies as well as an amazing experience. Will look forward to a return visit next time I'm in the area.
