In town on the way home from a weekend away, we strolled through uptown Blowing Rock looking for a light supper on Sunday evening. Finding Blowing Rock Ale House and Inn. While debating going in, an outdoor patron said "We are from out of town , but every time I come to town I eat here. It's always great." Taking her advice we went in, were seated right away. While not taking advantage of the ale, we enjoyed sandwiches. My husband enjoyed the Philly special and I ordered the fried green tomato BLT. We both chose the herb pasta salad side instead of fries. I found the pasta salad too highly seasoned. The sandwich was yummy, large enough to leave no room for dessert. The waitress was very attentive. The atmosphere was appealing with nice wood and stone. Prices were a bit on the high side but I'd likely give it another try. read more

Excellent food, surroundings, service and brews. They have a gem here. Try it and you won't be disappointed. I had a bison burger and fries with the chocolate porter. My wife had the vegetarian sandwich, itself excellent. She had the wheat beer and enjoyed it. They're homemade catsup was awesome as was their homemade ranch served with the amazing kids chicken tender bites. Nothing bad to say at all. The bathrooms were clean, too. For some time we have eaten here regularly, and in terms of food and beer, I can recommend it. Recently we have noticed a disturbing pattern and it has gotten to the point where we will no longer frequent the establishment. In the last 3 times my wife and I have sat down to eat, we have been waited on long after people who were seated after us. In fact, a couple of times it appears we were being blatantly ignored. One time could be an aberration, twice might be a coincidence; but three times? That's a habit. So my review is: Definitely consider the Blowing Rock Ale House for good food and great beer; getting a table can be tough because the place is small, but even after sitting down, their service has been habitually poor. read more

If I could give negative stars, I would! Don't waste your time or money here. Waited an hour for a table, 50 minutes for appetizers to come, another hour for 2 of 4 meals that was ordered. Bison burger was raw and after waiting 30 minutes and the 2 other meals had never came, we left. Our waiter was apologitic but wasn't his fault. The manager didn't seem to care or apologize! The Short: Great atmosphere, good brew, tasty food, and pleasant service. The Long: I got a flight and they had a cucumber beer that tasted like cucumber, shocking I know. I really enjoyed their Amber and darker brews. Their scotch ale was my favorite. My wife got the southern fried chicken sandwich and she enjoyed it. She really enjoyed the crispness of the batter. I tried the bison burger which was just ok. Part of my rating on the burger is I asked for medium and it was medium well at best, so it was too dry for my liking. The smoked tomato jam that comes on the burger was unbelievable however and would cause me to get the burger again. The fries were thin cut and floppy. The onion rings which they only serve on Friday were clearly, made in house and not frozen. They had a really tasty batter and overall they were great. read more

Words do not even describe how awesome this place was! It was honestly the highlight of our trip to the Boone area. We have constantly talked about it since and we have even reached out to try to find their beer locally. We tried flights and all of the beer was AMAZING! The homemade pretzels and beer cheese were great and the poblano pimento cheese was incredible. I cannot use enough adjectives to describe how great our experience was. I am torn between three and four stars on this. Blowing rock brewing company was pretty much what we expected. The Friday night prime dinnertime wait was about 30 minutes which is not unreasonable. We had beer while we waited, and the weather was nice so it was no big deal. The inside of the restaurant is very small. The beer was good and fresh. I had a bison burger which surprisingly came with no lettuce, tomato, pickles etc. There was only some kind of cheese and tomato jam. It was good though and cooked just right. The onion rings and chicken sandwich are fantastic as well. The service was average but not in a bad way. read more

We took a ride to Blowing Rock this weekend and made the brewery our first stop. They have parking, so that's a bonus when you are dying to get out of the car! The place is super small inside as others have mentioned. We were hoping we missed the lunch rush, but no, there was still an hour wait (up to 2 by the time we finished!). The bar area had ~5-6 seats at the bar and then extra stools on the other side. No luck there. We grabbed a beer while we waited and headed to the front room with a cozy fireplace - good selection of drafts on tap, a couple visiting breweries too. They finally called our name to sit outside - it was chilly, but not bad in the sun - plus great people watching. We both went with the special that day - blackened filet sandwich with a blue cheese sauce and horseradish spread. The side options: homemade fries, sherry marinated mushrooms and a soup. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised - we were expecting typical "bar" food, but it was definitely a notch above that. Check it out if you're looking for lunch in Blowing Rock! P.S. This is one of the best brew pubs in NC. The first pleasure was the beer: the selection is wider than you'd typically find in a small brewery, and each of my 5 choices in the sampler was excellent. From Belgian to German to English favorites each was quite palatable; perhaps they weren't the very best example of each style, but consistently good enough to order a full pint. The best part though was the food. Every dish was just fantastic, down to the fries and homemade condiments. In the surface the pub menu wasn't particularly inventive, ie. a chicken sandwich or bison burger, but the actual ingredients and execution were amazing. Something special is going on turning ordinary dishes into something I'd order again and again. The location is an old house, and while the main dining room was loud, there were several smaller quiet rooms with couches where you can enjoy a beer and conversation in peace. Lastly, the service was the best I've had in a pub, making this a must try experience if you're in the region. read more

I came in here for dinner with my parents one evening and thought the food was great! This food is in an entirely different realm than traditional bar food. This is more of a gastro-pub experience. We started with the pretzel appetizer which consists of two large soft pretzels accompanied by Lusty Monk "Original Sin" mustard and a smoked gouda beer cheese. The pretzels arrived piping hot and the mustard was extremely flavorful and definitely hot enough to clear your sinuses! The beer cheese was flavorful and a good consistency for dipping. I ordered the bison burger for dinner upon my father's recommendation. It is served with tomato jam, smoked mozzarella, peppered bacon and grilled onions and was just fantastic. I worry sometimes when I see a burger presented with some type of jam because that often overwhelms everything else, but this burger was warm, juicy and the accompaniments were in just the right proportion to each other to offer a taste explosion in your mouth with hints of all the flavors. This is one of the best burgers I have ever had. The only drawback to the meal were the fries that came with the burger. They were WAY to salty ~ and I'm a salt freak. I put ground sea salt on EVERYTHING. I can't imagine what they would have tasted like to someone who tries to limit salt in their diet. Other than that, I would highly recommend having a bite to eat there. I am not a big beer drinker, so I'm afraid I'm no help on that end, but the craft beer menu looked extensive. This is a review for the ale house. My family and I stopped in to Blowing Rock Brewing for a flight tasting and got a few appetizers as well. Service: 4 stars. We had a new waitress, which I think caused some delays at the beginning of our service, but she was personable and checked on us more after we received our flights and food. Food: 2 stars. We got the fried oysters, the poblano pimento cheese, and a flatbread. All were pretty good, especially for bar food, but my aunt found a piece of plastic in the flatbread :( They comped it, which was appreciated, but. Still. Beers: 3 stars. I've had cans of BRBC's brews, so I was already a fan. Loved trying so much deliciousness! However, one of the glasses came out with a chip in it, and after finding the plastic... needless to stay, we asked for (and received) a replacement! No one is more disappointed than me that I didn't love this place, though I would give it a second try. It's a great location and the beer is delicious, but some unfortunate cons. read more

Stopped in during the busy Fall leaf watching season. Encourage everyone to get a reservation in advance. Luckily the front porch wasn't busy or cold (yet) so we sat there. Service was decent and accommodating so no big complaints, just wish things had been a little more timely and not charge for extra chips for the dip. (Really?!) other than that I totally dig the vibe of this place and will try to make it back on a better less busy day and hang out for awhile. I really wanted to like this place. Great curb appeal brought us in. Arrived late afternoon - place at well less than 50 percent of capacity. Ordered a beer and planned to sit at the tables or bar stools out front only to be rudely told we could not sit there without ordering food as well. this is more like 3.5 stars.. Went on 10/15/15 Thursday evening and it was a little wait. Maybe 15 minutes. Cons: -the waiter basically talked me out of a flight of 5 beers to sample because "they were running out of glasses" so I'd have to wait a while, and to get the flight of 3 instead -he forgot my daughters milk, when I realized this and asked he said that they had run out. He offered water or lemonade instead...but the price of a kids meal includes Milk as a drink. -right off the bat he named 4 or 5 beers they were "out of" that evening. Low and behold, 2 of them were ones I wanted to try - the side dished offered are French fries or whatever the side of the day is. I chose the "side of the day" which he said was philly pasta salad. He later came back and said they had "just ran out" and that the new side was couscous salad with a bunch of random stuff in it. basically the theme of the meal was that they were out of quite a lot of stuff. It was rather annoying, but I understand it was out of the waiters control. Now the good stuff: - the food was incredible. I had a chicken sandwich that had some sort of spicy aioli and jalapeno apple slaw. seriously amazing. and the couscous salad for a side was good too - the beer I did try was great. My favorite was the Big Chocolate Porter. I ended up buying a 64 oz "growler" which is a large glass bottle with their logo on it filled with the beer of your choice so that I could take that deliciousness home with me. All in all, the food and beer was a saving grace. They must have been having an off night, being out of a lot of things, but the food was wonderful and I really enjoyed my beers. Love this place! Every single time I'm in Blowing Rock, I make a point to stop in here. The fried chicken sandwich is the BEST thing on the menu. The soup of the day is always great! I go here just for that and a Scotch ale. I have never had a bad meal here. The place is tiny, which is seriously the only negative. But I really love the coziness of it. Stopped in the Blowing Rock Brewery round 2pm when we pulled into town. The atmosphere was great and they gave us access to the tv for the Panthers Game which was perfect. We sat by the fire in a front room. My husband got the bison burger and it was cooked to perfection. I had the kale and soup. It was great but too small of a portion. I would have liked either the soup or the salad larger. Also the meal was really slow to deliver but we recognize it was a weird time to eat lunch. The beer was good. Great place and great food! We had to wait about 20 minutes, but not a big deal because we went into a few of the shops up the road. Food was good. I had the BLT with fries and my husband had the special which was fried chicken open face sandwich with fries as well. It was very good also. Our waitress was ok, she actually just brought us our drinks and then that was it for her. We didn't see her again until we were more than half way through our meal when we asked her to bring us the check (we had our daughter with us who was getting kind of fussy). This has probably been my least favorite brewery experience. Downtown Blowing Rock has gotten way too popular for its size. Over the last 20 years it's gotten busier and busier without much of an effort to improve parking or access. With that in mind, a cute mountain hipster brewery in the cutest hippest mountain town in NC is of course going to be bursting at the seams. There was no place to stand, it was incredibly uncomfortable waiting in line for a beer. We spent the better part of 20 minutes just to order a single beer and some fries to take outside to the patio. We finally make it outside for me to drink the bev and wait for the fries. We had a pleasant enough time enjoying outside and playing jenga at one of the picnic tables, but we were really put off when one of the servers pet one of the other patrons dogs and then served us our food without going back to wash her hands. It's one thing to be dog friendly but I really would prefer it if the wait staff wouldn't expose my food to someone else's pets. All that, and the brew and fries were unmemorable. The parking and crowds and the dog fur server hands just aren't worth it. read more

With two families of 4, this was the perfect stop on a sunday evening. we walked right in and got a table for all 8 of us. there is a large waiting room with fireplace and comfy couches to warm the kids up after a day of shopping. there is limited seating for dining, but the atmosphere is perfect for families. The food was fresh and had a lot of flavor. the special chicken sandwich was made to order and was full of flavor. the bison burger is also a crowd favorite. very tender and cooked to perfection. the tacos were a hit, but they are the size of silver dollars, so get the 6 pack or you'll be hungry. I was excited for the burbon apple crisp for desert, but was disappointed. it had average flavor, but it did not hold together well and the portion size was small. overall, a great experience and great food for the family. read more

This is the place to have lunch or a light, beer filled dinner in Blowing Rock. There are lounge areas in the front of the building if you just want to chill & drink done yummy craft beer.
