The restaurant is in an old motel, but has a new roof. The inside is quaint, with white-washed boads and chairs, it's very cute. We were offered any seating, we chose to sit inside, though there are tables outside. We tried their housemade donuts, which were excellent, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Our food came out very quickly and was very hot. I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits, which was homemade with three biscuits! It was delicious. His Canadian bacon benedict came with two slices of ham on each muffin half. He thought the eggs were a little too runny, and not much hollandaise, but commented he could have asked for more. I was in Venice for a weekend get away and had Sunday breakfast here because their menu included scrapple. The meal was very good and quite filling. My only complaint is that the scrapple was cut thick and not fully cooked. I grew up with our scrapple sliced thin and fried crisp with syrup. So not to say the scrapple wasn't fully cooked, just not what I grew up eating. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive. So a good balance. read more

We were introduced to this little hidden gem by our realtor ten years ago as one of her favorite places. What a delight! The eclectic breakfast, brunch or lunch menus and funky, old-style Florida ambiance are a perfect combination. Visiting from Miami and had to make a stop for Sunday brunch. Randomly came across Blu Island Bistro and to my surprise everything was excellent!!! I highly recommend requesting our waitress Michelle, her customer service was above and beyond amazing. We tried the corned beef (wow) and the whisky bacon eggs Benedict...so good!!! My wife and I ate at the Blu Island Bistro in April 2025. A location that my wife worked at 30 years prior when it was a different restaurant. We went in sat down and we're promptly greeted by our server. After we looked through the menu, we I decided to order the Whiskey Bourbon Benedict for $16.50 and my wife ordered the Steak and eggs for $16.50 both of which seemed a little overpriced but we still decided to eat there. My Benedict tasted pretty good even though the pork belly bacon was a little overcooked, making it hard to cut. My wife's steak was a little underwhelming, and still gray and little overcooked. We commented to ourselves that it was a new menu item and they still needed to practice a little bit more. We ate and got and paid our bill, noticing that they charged us $2.00 more for the Whiskey Bourbon Benedict and $1.00 more for the Steak and eggs. They never told us or was there a sign or a note on the menu of the price increase. We paid the bill and left without complaining. After thinking about it I felt compelled to write this review to let other diners know what we experienced. That being said, we most likely will not be returning After receiving a reply to my review stating that the extra charge for the food was due to increased egg prices, and is posted on their front door. I noted that when we arrived, the food runner had just propped the door open making it impossible for anyone to read about the increased food prices. read more

I had such an enjoyable breakfast at Blu Island. I couldn't believe that I had not been here before but thankfully I was able to make my first visit this week. Blu Island is located on Venice Island on Alt 41 across from the old Venice Hospital, if you blink you may miss it! The pictures posted are what drew me to be intrigued about this place and I like the varied menu. The food was very flavorful and we didn't have any qualms with our meal. The menu contains some specialty items only found in the Northeast such as scrapple and Taylor ham. I had the Crabmeat Eggs Benedict and everything about it was outstanding-the English muffins were pillowy and the hollandaise was homemade and the eggs and accompanying asparagus were cooked perfectly! I selected hash browns as my side and to my surprise they weren't ordinary hash browns-these has cheese and spices which was a nice variation. When we requested hot sauce we were asked if we wanted house made hot sauce which ended up being a habanero sauce and it was OUTSTANDING! We were also given Cholula which was a nice addition/enhancement for our meals. Our server, Ann Marie, was super friendly, personable and efficient. When we were there she was serving all the tables in the back where we were and she did it with ease and we were never neglected. I enjoyed sitting in the back atrium-type enclosed porch room in the back of the restaurant. Service by Stephen was exceptional.as was the efficient zone defense by the other waitstaff! Never waiting, never wanting. Awesome. They were very busy! Coffee was notably tasty, not sure why. My daughter made an odd comment that I ended up agreeing with - the table water or maybe the ice seemed crisp and tasty. Eggs Benidict w/Whisky Canadian Bacon - wow. Eggs were spot on perfect. Maybe the bottoms are not toasted the same as the tops? 7/10 Daughter got the two eggs over easy w/spicy hash browns and white sourdough bread. Those eggs were also perfect like I cook them she said. So checkmark. She used my avocado slices on the bread as a spread and loved it. Themspicy.hash browns.i.took and they are awesome. 8/10 Of note again, water always filled, coffee serviced and topped. The place was military efficient and friendly. We had to try the weekend only made to order cinnamon cake donuts with drizzled glaze donuts. You will eat whatever quantity you order...they are magnificent. ( I rarely eat donuts having worked in a donut shop and bakery in college in the 70s, the cooking smell almost makes me gag like an olfactory flashback ;-) ) These were very lightly fried in fresh oil. Lightly sugared and.cinimon and a glaze drizzle with a few blueberries and stawberries. I could come back here secretly JUST for coffee and donuts!!! 10/10 So awesome job and a 9/10 overall. Food was good. Service was decent, she seemed pretty busy and friendly. A little more attentiveness would have been nice. Only complaint was that prices weren't transparent. See pictures. It seemed like prices were listed at one price on the menu and another on our receipt. I'm guessing that we had three, $1 up-charges on our meals. It would have been nice to know that when we ordered. For example, the Egg Combo comes with a choice of seasoned or diced potatoes, but home fries were ordered (what's the difference between home fries and seasoned potatoes, I don't know). The Avocado toast comes with a choice of bread, but we chose English muffin. I do see that "extra crispy fries" are a $1 up charge on the wrap, but I was first under the impression to get them extra crispy was the up-charge, but oh well. I mean who doesn't want fries with their sandwich and wraps, haha. I would come back, but breakfast is getting too expensive to justify eating out for unless it's a celebration. -I wanted so badly to 5 star this place but it came in as a big disappointment. Out of everything I ordered the only item that I thought was ok was the bacon. It was crisp and tasted good. Da Bronx bagels were minus Da Bronx. They were just ok, said the BRONX GIRL. Eggs were greasy and the coffee was just not good. Food was pretty good. Ordered breakfast and there was no wow factor there with all the rave reviews it gets however the onion rings were amazing. Took nearly 45 minutes for food to come out and service was average. Waitress didn't refill drinks or check on us very much. Outside seating is nice there and nice it's dog friendly. Found this place on yelp and my bride myself decided to go give it a try this morning for breakfast. She had an omelette with goat cheese and mushrooms, and God knows what else and I had scrambled eggs with grilled onions and a giant pancake with chocolate chips, the coffee was great and Marie our waitress was terrific. The place is adorable. Some great stuff on the walls to look at and on the way out, they were giving mini cupcakes that were delicious so this is an easy five star. read more
