These are possibly the WORST TENNIS COURT surfaces I have ever played on across the entire USA. I saw someone fall on the adjacent court and I tripped twice. The crevices are huge and you can't hit balls on these surfaces. Who is in charge at Blue Ash Rec Ctr? It's a dangerous situation and you're headed for lawsuits by opening these courts to the public and not maintaining them safely. EVERY COURT HAS HUGE CRACKS. Plus they are uneven and some cracks extend in many directions. I would advise anyone who is looking for a place to play a competitive game that this place is to be avoided. You can't hit accurate balls off cracks and you can't be safe when you're tripping on hard courts. Hopefully, someone will see this and take action to make these courts safe. PS - Many of the tennis courts are lined for Pickleball too and the new lines are placed right over major cracks like they don't care about the public playing on them. read more

The Blue Ash Recreation Center has one of the best outdoor pool complexes in Cincinnati. The kids love the splash pad area and the Kings Island caliber water slide. The lifeguards are friendly and watchful with young ones. The tennis courts are well kept and have adequate lighting for evening play. It has never been difficult to get a court. My favorite place to play tennis in Cincinnati. The exercise facilities are good and kept very clean. There are plenty of treadmills and equipment. All the members seem nice and friendly. Parking is never an issue. read more

My husband and I frequently use the tennis courts at the Blue Ash Rec Center. I work 9-5 and he typically works into the night, so it's very convenient that we can pop over to the courts after sunset, sometimes as late as 9:30, and find at least one empty court. Typically, the later you go, the more free courts there are. If it's too dark, you can easily turn the lights on! There is a sign as you enter the courts that mentions the courts are open for use until 11 PM. BARC requests that you make reservations, and I can confirm that the courts are crowded in the early evening, especially in the later spring/early summer. However, the latest that I have seen a staff member working at the courts (in peak season) was probably 8:00, so I'm not sure if a reservation would do you any good past that time. For example, most times (even in peak season) when we go around 8-9, there are very few people using the courts, if any. BARC offers 6 courts, three on each side, allowing for many people to play at one time. All courts are clean and well-maintained. One side of the courts has screens between the courts to keep your tennis balls from rolling to the other courts. There are public restrooms and a water fountain as well. read more

Great community center! This place is a great deal if you're a resident of Blue Ash. You have the option to buy a individual pass for the year for ONLY $50! You can also buy a family pass (4 people) for ONLY $100 for the year. This place has a ton to offer! They have a huge gym, rock walls, basketball courts, racquetball courts, tennis courts and a huge outdoor pool! Also, tons of classes you can sign up for. If you work or live in Blue Ash, you just sign up. You can't beat it! read more

As I'm not a Blue Ash resident, I'm only going to comment on the pools since that's what I frequent when I'm a guest. Just this week they opened up a new Family Pool and it is amazing! There is spraying water coming from dozens of spouts, tall and small. Two zero depth entries, a large rainbow colored half circle that kids can climb up and slide down and a medium sized open slide. This pool is open from 10-11:30. Then it opens again at noon. There is also a large pool that is about three feet deep throughout except for the lap lanes and the diving board area. There is also a double tube slide that those 42" and taller can ride and is open even during adult swim. Adult swim is every hour from the hour until quarter after. This pool opens at noon. A snack bar opens at noon as well. Bathrooms are clean and family friendly. read more

This state of the art facility is a dream for blue ash residents and individuals who work in the city of blue ash however, one of Cincinnati's best kept secrets is that you don't have to live in Blue Ash to take advantage of their top notch group fitness classes! I've tried a lot of gyms / studios in the area and these are honestly my favorite. For ~5 dollars as a walk in fee, you have access to a wide variety of boot camps, circuit training and spinning classes. I haven't had a bad instructor here yet and everyone is so friendly. If you live in Blue Ash, it's just your luck as you have access to the entire fitness center for $50 per year! How great is that?? read more

Having lots of friends from Blue Ash, I've been to the Blue Ash Recreation Center a number of times over they years, mostly to play basketball or to swim at the pool. You have to be a resident to be a member, although it helps if your friends have guest passes. The pool is great, and when the "Rec Center," as its known, opened in 1979, the pool was second only to Coney Island as the largest re-circulating pool in Cincinnati, according to the City of Blue Ash's website. The outdoor pool (hours vary from inside) is a heated Olympic-size pool, but what make it stand out are the two 145-foot twisting water slides, and the awesome children's pool. The Rec Center is also known for its basketball, having two gyms, one of which is 10,000 square feet. I once read in a book that the Rec Center is one of the best places in the area to play a pick up game. Throw in two racquetball courts, a fitness center (and very popular jazzercise classes), locker rooms, a game room, babysitting facility, two large meeting rooms, eight outdoor lighted tennis courts open year-round, and a baseball and soccer field in the back and that makes for a great Rec Center. At least it once did. The Blue Ash Rec Center was the predecessor for many great recreation centers to come, including the one out in Mason which opened in 2003. With its most recent renovations coming in 1994, the Rec Center isn't all that special anymore, even if its membership is still high. Blue Ash saw that and is currently in "Phase 2" of its latest renovation project which will include "a new fitness enter, indoor track, locker rooms, gymnasium, family area with café, game room and a full basement under the addition to the current building," according to an article in a local paper. For its first 15-20 years of existence, the Blue Ash Rec Center was a 5-star place. It's still great for the family but it has dropped in recent years as bigger and better places have been built. When the construction comes to its end next spring, I'd surely bet that the Rec Center will be back to the 5-star level. read more

I am big into weight lifting and this place has everything I need. It does get a little crowded at times but the place is the biggest city gym I have ever seen. They have a huge pool for all the kids in the neighborhood which is nice. The staff is SO NICE and friendly. They have two basketball gyms which are in good shape. The one is only like 6 years old? They have batting cages downstairs and they have some nice meeting rooms! Overall I love this place and it makes me want to stay living in Blue Ash. read more

I gave it two stars because of the staff. I went in to get information about joining and the lazy person working the front desk would not even get off her chair to help me gather info about joining. She pointed to a clip board and told me that is how you sign up. Place looks like a lot of fun, but probably won't join because of that lazy loser working the front desk. If that is how they handle themselves at the front desk I can only imagine how they handle situation when guess are not present. read more

I love coming to this place. There's so much to do here, it's amazing! The pool is awesome, and the twin water slides are tons of fun, and even open during adult swim, to keep kids entertained and cool during the 15 minute break. There's also a large, warm kiddie pool with all kinds of fun attractions for little kids. There are also four lap lanes, so many people can swim at once. I also love the gym here. It fully focuses on both weight training and cardio for workouts, and has every kind of excersize machine available. I go once every week, and I love going every time. There's even a rock climbing wall here! Most of all, I love how everything looks clean and modern to give people the best experience possible while there. The Blue Ash Rec has everything! A game room, multiple gymnasiums, and more! It makes me wish I lived in Blue Ash so our membership won't expire. read more

The game room, climbing wall, and cafe are finished and they look amazing, the whole place has some new accents: like motivational posters in the fitness center and letters frosted in the glass on the studios and locker rooms. The game room looks amazing! They have a Wii and so many other cool games, there is almost always something open to play there. I haven't tried the climbing wall yet, but you need to make an appointment to have somebody certified as a belayer before you go, and it's not free, you can buy passes for certain amounts of time for unlimited access, but you need to BYOB (bring your own belayer) unless they started providing belay staff. I went into the facility today to inquire about a family membership. The gentleman at the front desk acted extremely bothered to assist me with enrollment questions. He barely made eye contact and gave me the impression that I was interrupting his internet browsing session. He told me to walk around on my own to check out the different assets of the club. Upon my return from my own personal tour, I checked in with him to pick up paperwork. He acted as though it was painful for him to lift a finger to give me piece of paper. All three front desk employees acted and appeared to be lazy as can be. Clean up your staff! You lost a potential client! read more

The Blue Ash recreation center is a very nice facility. I only wish we were residents so we could take full advantage. Luckily we have friends who are residents, and the summer swim lessons are open to non-residents. The outdoor pool is awesome! The water slides and activities are so fun and kid friendly. The entire facility is very clean and well kept. Summer tennis programs are also great. There's a park and running path around the rec center, so I could run while my kids were having their lesson and let my younger one play at the park. Overall a very nice facility! read more

Great equipment, really clean well maintained facility. Some of the front desk staff can get a little jumpy and stressed out when it's busy but I just avoid them. Cafe is nice - good selection and well priced. Sauna is always clean as are showers and locker room. read more

We recently switched from the Y in Blue Ash to the Rec Center. Since I now work in Blue Ash, we can take advantage of the wonderful facility at a great price! I do wish that their family membership, however, would include children even if they are over age 24. My daughter is still in school, and she cannot be included. It would also be nice if they had an indoor pool. The facilities that they do have are great though! Love the upstairs cardio area, including the indoor track (10 laps = 1 mile). There are signs every where saying there is a 30 min. limit, but if no one is waiting, I have stayed on for longer. I asked about lap swimming, and the front desk person did say that it is available in the outdoor pool. I haven't used the locker room yet, but the cardio area was kept clean and was bright and airy. The treadmills have audio inputs to allow you to watch TV on six different screens. It definitely would be nicer if each treadmill had it's own TV, but at this membership price I really can't complain ($340/yr for a family). read more

It costs 50 dollars a year to join and the facility is top notch, one of the best public recreation centers I have ever seen not on a college campus. This place is off the chain. We've been members for a few years now and have always enjoyed the facilities at the BA Rec Center. However, we've noticed a trend of young kids (Age 6-11) running around unsupervised during the week. We're talking 20-30 kids at a time. What's funny is there aren't any parents around these kids. Not sure if they're just being dropped off or what. It makes the gyms extremely noisy and the hallways dangerous from running and yelling. This was never the case, but seems to be happening at several times during the week and late into the evening. If this is the case, I can only imagine what the summer will bring. May not be renewing. read more

I've been a member of the Blue Ash Rec Center for a year now and although their facilities are adequate, I find them lacking as far as security and general hospitality are concerned. The equipment could be newer. Many people avoid certain pieces of cardio because they "squeak" so this leaves a long line for the better machines. They tell you to sign up for the cardio equipment but you often have to ask people to please get off the machine; a very awkward and rude situation to be in. Hardly anyone wipes the machines down. When I signed up, I requested to be on the waiting list for a locker. It's August of 2011 and they're just now providing lockers for those who signed up in March of 2010. And when I asked about the list, they couldn't even find me on it! So, I had to go to the back of the list and received no apology from the curt girl at the desk (curt is NOT a compliment). And here's the cherry on top: just yesterday, the front desk CUT MY LOCK AND BROKE INTO MY LOCKER, took out all my things, bagged them and put them in a plastic bag and took them to the front desk. The reason? Someone "claimed" to have left something in my locker. Makes you wonder how many things have been stolen if you can claim to leave something in a locker because they'll go right ahead and open it for anyone that asks. My last piece of advice: if you have access to a gym or a closer facility, take advantage. Do not go to the Blue Ash Rec Center unless you're desperate. read more
