She was wanting to find a local park with a water play area where we could cool off on this hot day. On the internet this park was the only one reporting a functioning water play area. We arrived wearing our swim suits only to be very disappointed. The water play zone is the first thing that you see when you pull in and park and the water wasn't turned on! We decided to stay for a while to let the grandchildren enjoy playing outside on the large jungle jim. It has several places for climbing with curving stone like steps, a wall and a rope spider web. There is a long wide ramp making it very handicap friendly. My 18 month old granddaughter who wasn't walking yet spent a lot of time climbing up the stairs. There are several slides of various sizes and colorful interactive displays with parts that spin and turn in addition to the always fun monkey bars and swings. Off to the right of the jungle jim is a small shelter with 2 picnic tables. Today it was being used by a family having a child's birthday party. There's a shaded bench to sit on and watch the children as they run & play in the water that would be raining down from above and shooting up from below had it turned on that day. After about 20 minutes or so we decided to leave because it was so hot out and my grandson was being disagreeable. We drove to a nice air conditioned restaurant after my son-in-law arrived having driven down to Cincinnati upon getting off of work in the ER. It was so nice this weekend, and we live soooooooo close, that the 'Gods of Chlorine' finally lured us over there, and we were not disappointed (except when the crowds finally thinned, but it was "everyone out of the pool" @ 6:45 for a 7pm closing...)!!! Not half bad, when your only "complaint" is you wish they could stay open later...!! There's something for everyone here, from "diaper dippers" upward to Seniors (I think there's a pretty good "aqua fitness" class offering mornings; check their website: http://ntprdsplashzone.phantomgolf.com/. I wish they had more evening hours, and stayed open past mid-late August (unbelievable that most pools close here in Ohioooooo WELL before Labor Day, aka The HOTTEST PART OF THE SUMMER...!!) but I guess there's a lifeguard shortage once kids go back to school. This is a well run, well maintained gem in Springfield's dented/tarnished crown. Get there while it's HOT!!!

Never again. People smoking, rude staff, no-re entry rule…read more..... The old lady named Barb is soo rude. I told her that I forgot to get the sunblock out of my car for my kid. She said she didn't care. I had to pay to get back in. There's no handstamps or anything. Am I supposed to let my kid get sunburned? No. My kid and husband are still in the pool. She gets the manager, who was much nicer to deal with. The manager lets me back into the pool. They also pick and choose who they want to enforce the rules with apparently. I expect every public pool to be non smoking but there were at least 5 people in there smoking because of the no entry rule. They also told us no footballs, which is no big deal, but when we got in there was people with footballs and volleyballs too. I got a refund and we are going to the pool in Springfield to chill in the lazy river and have a good time.

One of my favorite parts was the nature center. The staff and naturalists were incredibly kind and helpful, and the space itself is really well done. There's a cute gift shop, educational displays, and even a small children's museum feel with a few live animals to see. It's a great spot to learn something new or play around. Outside, the park is incredible. The trails are extremely well maintained, both the wooded paths and the paved ones, making it perfect for an easy walk or a hike. There's also an outdoor fitness trail that I loved. It has different workout stations along the way, and it's actually really fun, not just functional. It's a great way for both kids and adults to be active. There's also a huge playground and a mini water park area for kids, plus accessible bathrooms and good seasonal amenities. It's very family friendly without feeling overcrowded. If you're into disc golf, this place is a gem. There's a large disc golf course, and they even sell discs and gear right inside the nature center. Another thing worth mentioning is how amazing Great Parks of Hamilton County is overall. They offer so many programs like beginner fishing, guided hikes, plant swaps, art workshops, amphibian hunts, and even owl pellet dissections. Not all of these are specific to this park, but many are hosted here, and it really adds to how special the experience is. Overall, this is an extremely pleasant place to spend time. Whether you're walking the trails, working out, bringing kids to play, or just exploring the nature center, there's something for everyone.

Not only does the center have a great pool but also 2 water slides, diving board, a splash area, and water rock climbing wall. The different areas of the pool is divided by water ropes and there are lifeguards assigned to each area to ensure the safety of patrons. There are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas if you want to read or take a cat nap while there. There is a picnic area and also a small playground and sand volleyball if that tickles your fancy. The bathrooms were spotless and had showers and changing areas. Due to the event being private we had catered food but there is a concession stand to buy snacks and food while at the center if need be. This is a great place to bring the whole family for water fun!

They also likes the slide, but I would suggest they have a lifeguard who is comfort with kids and telling them to get in line be there because the poor kid who was there was not at all. I thought the price was good for non-residents. A little high, but I get it. I liked that they didn't care about you bringing food in and had plenty of grass, shaded spots to sit with my kids. I want to start by saying that we have actually always had great experiences at Great Wold Lodges…read moreso this is location specific to the Mason, OH. From the moment we checked in or tried to this trip has been beyond disappointing and frustrating. Check in is at 4pm, we did not gain access to our room until almost 6pm. The upgraded room we paid for apparently not available for our stay. Ok fine, they put us in another room that we had to wait almost 40 minutes for, also fine, things happen. We finally get notification that the room is ready, we go to check in again, they have assigned us the wrong room and we now wait another 40 minutes for a room to finished being cleaned and inspected. They offered us free breakfast for the inconvenience. After texting with the onsite customer service they gave us a $100 credit and offered late check out on our final day. All oft those things were great but the actual staff when spoken too in person are unable to help at all and it's just "sorry, tough luck". Fast forward to the day we had booked a deluxe cabana for the day, we go the front desk pay the almost $600 and are told to just let the server know what drinks we want in the cabana. We get to the cabana and are told there are no staff for the cabanas today. Ok first world problem, I get it, however we paid for a premium service to help accommodate our son who is having temporary mobility issues. This was to give him a sensory reprieve and assist in that need of us having to run back and forth through the park. Again this was a "sorry tough luck" from the staff. After complaining they agreed to refund a partial amount. This location is one of the busier and larger we have been to and we were excited that it had so many additional amenities. Well, it doesn't, at least none of them are staffed. Overall this was an incredibly disappointing trip especially considering the insane amount of money we paid.

This past Sunday it was very busy and it was difficult to even get two chairs together. We snagged one when we arrived then got into the pool. We had to wait until later in the afternoon to get a second chair, but we didn't necessarily mind because we were in the water. It has an indoor fitness pool, an outdoor pool (looks like mostly designed for families with kids), an ice skating rink, a huge weight lifting and cardio machine area, multiple group fitness rooms, and a full-sized basketball court (that they use temporary drapes to turn into multiple courts for pickelball or pick-up basketball). There's probably more I'm missing. I've never actually walked through the entire place. They have a ton of community and fitness programming for the area. From 8 to noon then 4 to 9 most evenings, they have different fitness classes going on. They aren't just your basics either. They have enough TRX bands to support TRX classes or some of their strength-based classes use workout areas they've had installed. They have lots of spinning bikes and classes the support them. I've never actually encountered any machine or part of the fitness center that didn't work. Everything is well-maintained, and I've never even encountered an empty cleaning spray bottle before. The biggest "issue" I've had is when the water tastes a bit off because the red-light says the filter needs to be replaced on the water fountain. Prices aren't cheap, but they aren't expensive either. When a yoga class elsewhere will cost me $40, it's only $11 here at Kettering. If you get one of their multi-class passes or a membership, it's even cheaper on a per-class basis. They have lots of kids camps and kids activities including some homeschooling group play classes and more. I haven't paid much attention to the kid things, but I know they have some! Great spread of bodies and ages here too. You'll mostly see older adults, and it's really refreshing to see a ton of different types of people instead of the college-aged adults. Everyone here is super friendly, and it's clear a lot of the community uses this place as a great place to see and hang out with friends while staying active. Huge parking lot, but if there's a lot going on (like a kid's hockey meet), there have been a few times I've been unable to find a single parking spot in this beast of a parking lot. Bathrooms are clean too.

I decided to hike the Gorge Trail, which was very do-able, and ambitiously hoped to even follow the trail around the lake. Oooooops... There is NO LAKE, for the moment, anyway, as they've emptied it for maintenance (!!) Wasn't able to hike around the (dry) lake, as I think that trail was closed, but no worries, I headed back on the Gorge Trail (took a zillion pictures along the way, it's GORGEous!!) and made it back just in time to attend the Hispanic Festival taking place right outside the visitor's center. Looks like there's LOTS of community activities offered here, and it's a GREAT area resource!! Beautiful scenery, some waterfalls apparently, once the rain returns, picnic areas and multiple fun playgrounds for the kiddies, nicely marked trails, TONS of community events, and so much more!! Don't miss it if you're in the area!!
