I went for happy hour. The grounds are beautiful and overlook the Bayou. The margarita was $9 and not that limey. I don't know what makes it a signature drink. There are lots of ceiling fans to keep you cool and TVs. You can park on Birdsall Street for free or valet. I didn't order anything to eat. I did see on the happy hour menu a bruschetta with goat cheese and elote for vegetarians. Though the menu says the margarita is $9, I was charged $9.75. So do ask how much a menu item is so you won't have any surprises.

After having dinner inside of Brenner's, we decided to grab a drink outside on the patio at Blue Bar. We walked up to the bar and waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged. One of the bartenders finally took our drink order and I gave $40 cash and he asked another bar tender to close me out but, my money stayed right next to the register for another 5 minutes and almost flew away. The 2nd bartender fixed a drink for another guest first, sitting at a table nearby before proceeding to check me out but actually walked out of the bar fist to go do something else and realized that we were still standing there and that he needed to close me out. He gave me my change but no receipt so I did not know how much my drinks even were. A crown and seven and a beer was $28 dollars. I was really annoyed at the service, there were two bartenders and it was not that busy. I may give it another try for happy hour however and give them a chance at redemption.

Fellas, if you want to impress a lady, dinner at Brenner's is an awesome place to go. Brenner's is an upscale steakhouse located on the bayou with as picturesque of a view as you're going to get in Houston. I've been on a date there once and they have open windows throughout the restaurant so you can see the bayou and the hills of grass. Attached to the restaurant is a trendy bar called Blue. I went to Blue for a networking event and they have happy hour from 5-7 PM. Their signature cocktails are $7 and beer is cheaper. I had several cocktails including a Southern Tea (Firefly vodka, tea, etc.) and a Pear Martini. There is a bar, several tables, and lounge seats. If you're in the sitting area, there are waitresses to take your order or there are some seats at the bar. They also have a good amount of food on the happy hour consisting of apps, skewers, and oyster shooters for the most part. I went with the Mongolian beef skewers and the parmesan fries. The skewers were flavorful, you get three of them, but they were relatively small. On the other hand, the portion size for the parmesan fries was generous so two items off the happy hour menu was more than enough for me. This is an expensive spot so you're getting a great deal during happy hour. Our waitress, Raven, was awesome. She's been working at Blue for 6 months but it seemed like she had been working there for years. She checked up on us frequently and always when our drinks were running on empty. We had good conversation with her, she's really friendly. When we moved to a table, she still stopped by to check up on us. Once the sun goes down, blue lights come on and it now becomes clear why it's called Blue. Parking is valet only ($5) but there's some limited parking on the streets right outside of the restaurant. The only downside minus valet? Blue is outside. I was coming straight from work so I was wearing dress clothes and it's June which means I was definitely sweating. Come July and August might be a little unbearable. Even though they have fans, it's not enough unless you're sitting in the perfect spot.

My girlfriends and I are always looking for new places for happy hour and this is one of the better happy hours in Houston! Luckily, it was pretty empty on a Monday evening. Happy hour is served only at the bar inside or the patio outside of the restaurant. With Houston humidity and mosquitos, your best bet is to sit inside. Duck fat popcorn - as if popcorn wasn't good already. When you add duck fat, bacon!!, and cheese to it, I'll never look at regular popcorn the same way. Pretty addicting and without supervision you could finish the entire bowl yourself. Lobster and shrimp rolls - just the right amount of mayo and the roll itself was fluffy and buttery. Tastes similar to mainely sandwiches except here had tomato and chives and not as much mayo. However, I was longing for a little bit more lobster and shrimp for the price ($9 for 3 rolls). Oyster shooters (ponzu) - do NOT order this flavor/drink/concoction. I got vinegar-y, sour shot than ponzu. Bleh! It's disgusting and even the bartender agreed. My girlfriends had margarita and Bloody Mary with no complaints. Also, just a plain ol fried oyster on top. Texas quail appetizer (on the dinner menu) - I normally don't like ordering quail because it's too much work to pick off the meat. Nope, not here. The work is done for you AND it's wrapped in bacon. Hints of sweet, savory and spicy, I couldn't even tell that it was quail. The bartender (Joaquin?) was very attentive and made some really yummy drinks. Beers start at $6, cocktails $10, small plates $5-$9. Only drawback - parking is valet only.

Add me to the numerous fans of Blue At Brenner's. Like everyone has said, the scenery and ambiance are absolutely beautiful. Blue At Brenner's + 70 degree weather = perfection. This place would be great for a first date, a girls' night out, or a place to relax and have a couple of drinks. The happy hour prices are great ($5 cocktails & martinis, $6 wine, and $5 small plates), and the service is on point. When my friend and I first got there, we didn't have anyone attend to us, but shortly after making eye contact with the waitress, she came over, nicely welcomed us, and took our drink orders. I ordered the Pear Martini (Yelpers' recommendation), and my friend ordered the Southern Peach Tea. Both were delicious! We ended up ordering two drinks each. I thought the martini would be too strong since most martinis are overwhelming for me, but this one was perfect. Like most people said, it definitely doesn't taste like pear though. The Southern Peach Tea wasn't too strong either. For food, we ordered the House Made Pretzels, Sliders, Hand Cut Truffle Fries, and Ice Cream Trio (for dessert). The best dish was the Hand Cut Truffle Fries. They look simple, but the fries tasted heavenly, and the sauce they came with was also mouth watering. My 2nd favorite would be the pretzels. They were not too salted, firm but easy to tear apart, and paired perfectly with the 3 dipping sauces. The sliders were great as well, but they weren't anything too special. I think the most disappointing dish was the Ice Cream Trio. The macaroons were especially chewy, and there wasn't very much ice cream. My favorite ice cream of the three was the chocolate since it was rich and dark. Interestingly enough, we got the dessert for $5 instead of $9, so we were definitely happy about that. I'm not sure if dessert is covered for happy hour or if they made a mistake. Overall, I loved my experience here. I'll definitely be back and probably in the near future!

If only based on decor and design, I'd give BLUE Bar 5 stars. Amazing chic furniture, great color theme and beautiful scener. However, my experience wasn't quite as stellar. Stopped by on a Tuesday night for happy hour. I phoned in beforehand to ask for the specials and the manager told me he's busy and don't have time to tell me. Automatic -1pt. When you arrive, although it's complimentary valet, it's never really absolutely free. Park on the street just before the valet and walk 20 steps. Also, be sure to enter through the left side into BLUE Bar or else the hostess inside Brenner's Steakhouse to the right will get annoyed. -1pt. I arrive at 4:55pm and the place is deserted, probably because all but the only 3 workers are still setting up. We go outside to , and 1 lonesome bartender tells me it'll be a few minutes. 5:02 by my cell rolls around and the bartender tells me, "You can order now, but it won't be hh prices till 5pm." Although I said it's 5pm on my cell, she simply said, "No." -1pt. I ordered the house pretzels, which I imagine would be the closest taste to pure rubber, and the sliders, which were bland and tasteless. The $5 cocktails are made with premiums and taste great but they are all pretty girly and comes in small volumes. Overall, great decor, terrible rude service, bad food, good cocktails only for girls, and terrible for Houston summers. I will only return for business or formal events. Never again for "happy" hour

Add me to the number of fans for happy hour at BLUE! I had a chance to try out this patio bar yesterday with a couple of girlfriends for happy hour & was truly impressed. It's not your typical patio with dilapidated benches, street parking "view," and seedy characters. For once, Houston gets a decent sized outdoor space with comfortable outdoor furniture, ample shade, decent fans providing a good breeze, and a business crowd. And the view? Bayou to the front, a landscaped waterfall setting on one side, and more greenery on the other. Definitely easy on the eyes! As for our choice of libation, all of us ordered the Southern Peach Tea ( firefly sweet tea vodka, peach schnapps and fresh lemonade), a favorite of mine during the summer months. No complaints there, as the glasses were tall & the drink was well mixed. For my snack, I ended up ordering (wait for it...wait for it...) hand cut TRUFFLE fries! I know, my obsession with anything made with truffles is ridiculous, but what was I to do? How could I say no to hand cut fries served with black truffle aioli? And yes, it was delicious. The same could be said for their chicken satay and calamari. And did I forget to mention that during happy hour, one page of drinks and small plates were a paltry $5 each? My one and only complaint (and it's so minor, I hate to even mention it) is that there is only one bathroom (one stall) on the ground floor. To their credit, this restroom was immaculately clean and there is another set of restrooms upstairs. However, when one's had a few too many vodka lemonades, you don't exactly want to take the risk of climbing those set of wooden staircases. I'd rather wait in line on the first floor, thank you very much. Overall, I think BLUE is a definite winner for a happy hour spot during the coming summer months. And the fact that it's somewhat secluded from the other busy restos & bars make it more inviting to people who want to seek refuge from the crowds and the heat. This summer, if you're thinking of "stay-cationing," definitely put BLUE at Brenner's on your list of places to visit. Quick Tips: I know everyone says it but the Pear Martini is as good as they say! Be careful about sitting outdoors during summer, because it gets pretty hot. The heat is worth it for the INCREDIBLE view. A great place to impress with a slight casual feel. Amazing happy hour specials, $5 for select appetizers and drinks including the Pear Martini. Free valet so go ahead and drive down into their restaurant. Food: Veg friendly option are the truffle fries and the pretzels with three different types of dips. Service: prompt Ambiance: Beautiful view of the park and gazebo as you walk into the bar.

brenner's has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Houston and for a more casual bite Blue didn't let us down. My husband and I got a few happy hour appetizers and drinks at the bar and were pleased with the service and presentation of food. Plus the prices made it so we wouldn't have to only visit on special occasions. We will be back more often for Happy Hour.

Saturday 10/15/16 was my first time at Blue at Brenners. My friend had a $50 gift card that we wanted to use so we figured it would be nice to let the waiter (Reuben) know ahead of time-BAD IDEA. I feel that since we were using the gift card (we still left a tip above 20% in addition to our bill) we were not waited on appropriately. Our waiter just seemed like he would rather be doing anything else and they were not busy. Oh well, at least the view was amazing and the 2 people I was with are great people.

I highly recommend happy hour here, especially during spring/fall-like weather where you can enjoy their awesome patio. The patio consists of a bar with stool seating, a reserved seating section and patio furniture scattered throughout the area. If you seek out Anje, you will not regret it! He's an awesome bartender that is very knowledgeable of all the menu items and is not afraid to offer his honest opinion. The crowd was a mixture of professionals in their mid-20s to mid-40s. Everyone was polite, respectable and happy. We tried almost everything on the $5 happy hour menu, but I highly recommend the pear martini, chipotle maple glazed quail and veal ricotta meatballs. In addition, I would try their crab cakes. They're the best I've ever had. One major drawback was the solo restroom situation, so be prepared to wait in line. This was a disappointment in their design, but at least the quality of food and people make up for it!

Clarkwood really does know what they're doing with these espresso martinis! I loved the added touch of the burnt marshmallow on mine, and the coffee seemed pretty good quality too. The second time I visited I also enjoyed their spicy watermelon margarita. Also amazing. It tasted a little bit like a spicy jolly rancher? SO good! They also let us know that if we posted and tagged them on our instagram, that we could receive a free round of shots. So, of course, me and my two friends posted to get some shots too. We were able to try the Mexican candy shot, the raspberry lemon drop shot, and the mini matcha martini shot. Honestly all were really good, but my favorite in order were the 1) raspberry lemon drop shot, 2) Mexican candy shot, then 3) the matcha martini shot. The matcha martini was good but as it's creamier, I think having it as an actual martini than a shot is more appropriate. Still, it's a great way to try a new drink and just sip on it rather than taking it as a shot. Also - the venue is so elegant and charming and such a cute spot for a date night. The music was a littleeee loud for me considering it's such a small space, but that's okay. Either way, I loved Clarkwood and will be coming back again :)

$200 to Get Cancelled On: A Masterclass in Hospitality…read more We had reservations for the 6:00 p.m. cocktail tasting in the Arc Room and were required to pre-pay $200--because nothing says "relaxing evening" like a firm financial commitment. Naturally, if we hadn't shown, we would have been charged in full. However, when we arrived right on time, we were informed the event had been canceled. Apparently, a text was sent. Equally apparently, none of us received it--nor did at least three other couples standing there having the exact same delightful surprise. The double standard was...impressive. The hostess was apologetic but clearly overwhelmed and not exactly presentation-ready (stained shirt, visibly frazzled), which didn't inspire much confidence that this was an isolated hiccup. The proposed solution was to seat us in the bar--with the added charm of a strict "out by 8:00" timeline. A bold recovery strategy for canceling a prepaid experience at the last minute. We ordered the Clarkwood gin and tonic and a lychee martini--both recommended--along with a charcuterie board. Neither drink made it to the finish line. The martini leaned aggressively sweet, and the gin and tonic featured fruit-infused ice that sounded creative but tasted...confused. It also arrived in a shade of neon blue that felt less "craft cocktail" and more "science experiment." The charcuterie board was, somehow, the standout disappointment. The almonds were oily, the meat had those telltale dried edges of something that's been sitting out too long, and the accompaniments included what appeared to be Wheat Thins and plain animal crackers. It was an unexpectedly nostalgic trip to a child's snack drawer--just not one anyone asked for. Overall, this might pass as a novelty stop for a 21 run looking for something flashy, but between canceling prepaid reservations, questionable communication, and execution that missed the mark at every turn, it's difficult to find a compelling reason to return.

(Again, I didn't taste them, but the person who ordered the dish said it was excellent.) The cocktails were wonderful, as well. Back to the ambience: it's certainly beautiful, airy, with tall ceilings and abundant natural light from the expansive windows. The furniture is tasteful modern-eclectic and comfortable: something else we all noticed is it was void of any odors - very fresh and clean, which is huge for a hookah bar. Service, like the food, was outstanding. Every single staffer we encountered was gracious, welcoming, and genuinely warm. We appreciated the recommendations from our server and the visits from management. So, Confessions has it all, and we will definitely be back to try more of the menu. What an awesome find!
