Visited in June 2025 around 3 pm. The cafe closes at 4 so it was calm and chill. Walked into this Blue Bottle thinking I'd get my usual iced NOLA, but then I saw the words "Lavender Yuzu Latte" on the menu and blacked out for 3 seconds. Shut up and take my money! First sip and I weirdly liked it. The lavender says "relax," the yuzu says "wake up," and together they say "what is happening?". It's like my mouth went to therapy and left more confused but strangely refreshed. Was it weird? Yes. Was it good? Maybe. Would I get it again? Only if I feel emotionally stable enough to not questioning my life choices. read more

A coworker and I decided to disappear from work and find a new coffee spot to try. This particular place was located on a cute street, with lots of green plants sprouting out, and colorful umbrellas floating in the sky. We came around lunchtime, but thankfully there were a few open seats, which we quickly grabbed. I ordered the Brown Sugar Latte, which was very good. Not too sweet, just right. The barista was extremely helpful and answered all of our questions, including supplying us with his personal recommendations. They also serve pastries as well, but we really only had time for coffee. I'm looking forward to returning to try some the next time! 10 out of 10! read more

For the coffee alone a 5 For the pricing a 3 lol For the staff a 5 overall. They have great employees but the pricing f the coffee has gone up and it makes me go out way less. It's good tho. Just be prepared for two things 1) to wait a little bit (perfection takes time) 2) to spend a pretty penny ( premium doesn't come cheap) Honestly for my tiny mocha $8 it's so worth it for a coffee splurge here and there. Definitely couldn't afford this on a daily or weekly basis but every once in a while it's a treat! This is one of my favorite stops for coffee when in Oakland. I used to go to their previous location at Jack London and the service, and coffee was always awesome. Today not so much, the employees did not greet or make eye contact, can't even say Thanks for waiting we will be right with you guys...although there were only two customers in line but they seemed so pre-occupied to even notice customers were waiting. 6 minutes later the girl finally acknowledges me waiting at the counter. This place is definitely on the pricier side for coffee, but it's decent. However I must warn you that the internet here is painfully slow. If you are thinking of getting some work done, i'd suggest giving it a pass. Also, it's worth noting that the surrounding area is sketchy & unsafe. We parked our car just half a block away from this location and unfortunately, it got broken into within an hour (around 11:30 am, nothing visible). Hidden oasis is such a cliche, but it really does apply to this coffee shop. I got their shakerato and really liked it. Super clean and safe inside compared to the chaos of broken glass, homeless people, and litter near this place. Great friendly staff. Would love it if more businesses like would open up and help to revive downtown Oakland and help it bounce back from all the closed restaurants and shops. read more

I stopped by here for a quick coffee and bite to eat for breakfast. It's a nice coffee shop, seems like a great place to sit and enjoy coffee while working or meeting up with a friend. I was interested in the New Orleans Style Coffee but I'm not a huge fan of sweet so I wanted to taste the coffee first so the barista was really nice and he let me have a sample. It was really good, bold with hints of chicory and perfect balance of sweetness. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich, it came with egg and cheese, they were out of turkey sausage. One of my ways to try new thing is to use the Too Good to Go App. This place popped up for baked goods. The time to pick up was in a range I could do and just so correlated with the morning caffeine need. I decided to order a coffee with my pastry and give some extra business. I was going to go for my standard mocha latte, but then I saw on the board Black Cardamom latte, which wasn't in a the pictures when I researched. The staff is pleasant and when I asked which milk alt went better, almond or oat for this particular drink she recommended the later, which she was right on. the drinks are made fresh. the seating area is modern and open airy. I truly enjoyed my coffee, not bitter and not overly strong, which I liked. On my way out I saw on the board, spiced Nola coffee. (I will be back to try that one) Now the pastries. My too good to go contained two large croissants and scone and a mini loaf, brown butter blondie I think. I warmed it up a bit. I'm don't think I'm a fan of brown butter in general, so I leave that one to the man, next time if it is included. The scone was quite good. The croissants are for my guy. But considering I paid $6 for 4 pastries which about that price for on and they try not to waste food, not bad. read more

Found this place after crying into my empty coffee cup when I found the closed location in JLS and thought it was gone forever. I love the new (to me) digs... GREAT location, plenty of seating, and same great product! Found parking surprisingly easy and placed our order. Within moments I had my caffeine fix and a warm, buttery chocolate croissant. Coffee is good with lots of variety's and creative concoctions. I've tried several. Mocha, matcha. They are all delicious. Seems to be of better quality than the other franchises. The baristas here are laid back and willing to answer any questions you may have on their drinks. I wanted to order the Nola. I typically drink my coffee with no milk or cream. I was going into this order with that same preference but my barista suggested that I try the Nola first to see if it's too strong. I'm glad he asked me because it was stronger than Draymond's flagrant foul. I ended up adding oat milk and the drink was perfect. This place would get a 5 star but I had to knock it down one just because I came here only to study and do work. There are no outlets to charge your laptop, so I just finished my pastry that I bought and left to another place that I could study at. read more

I'm torn. I love the taste of the pour over coffee, and I love the loaf cake. I especially love the pumpkin loaf with chocolate chips. It is pretty darn amazing. I also really like the idea of a fresh pour over for each cup of coffee. But what I don't like is price of a 12 oz cup of coffee and the fact that you cannot get a larger size cup of coffee. 12 oz is the biggest. That means if I wanted a 24 ounce quantity of coffee, akin to a Starbucks venti size, the price would be enormous. Don't be mistaken, I am not especially persnickety about price. Blue Bottle had a location right down the street in downtown and I thought my family would definitely enjoy it considering they all loved coffee. I ordered a caffe latte and as always and from my memory, it was worth it. It was smooth, and the quality of the coffee is always on point. This shop has a lot of seating, along with plates and cups for water if you want to have it on the side. There were some food but don't expect a lot of options, it was pretty much baked goods. For something as well known and 'high-end' like a Blue Bottle Coffee, it felt very strange in there. I met a friend for breakfast and the location had some sketchy characters around the neighborhood. A couple of those people consistently came in and out and tried to "sneak" into the locked bathroom, eventually making it in. The furniture was low to the ground and felt like children's furniture in a play-place. I also feel like there wasn't as many options as there are in other blue bottle locations, though I haven't visited in a while. The overnight chia oats and coffee were good quality though. read more

What can I say - the oat milk lattes and cappuccinos are absolutely delicious and the baristas do some great coffee art in every cup. The food options are a little slim, so I'd recommend getting a bite somewhere else. Was looking forward to indulging in quality coffee and pastry only to be absolutely disappointed in very stale rock hard items in the bag upon returning to my office desk and seeing the bag labeled 5/31. The TGTG app description did not disclose they were saving 3-day old bread/pastries. So awful I could/would not even hand it to a starving homeless person. Tossed in the compost bin. Total waste. Easy 5/5. I come here every weekend and I'm always left perfectly happy. I usually opt for one of three drinks: The New Orleans, Sweet Latte or Matcha Latte. The New Orleans is their version of a milk based cold brew but what I love about it is that it's actually drinkable and not bitter like most places (lol) it also has a chocolate-like taste to it as well, so definitely keep that in mind if you aren't looking for that! The sweet latte on the other hand is what you might consider a 'traditional' latte but what makes it unique is that it's made with brown sugar. As a fan of sugary syrups, I absolutely love it; it's also never too sweet and has a nice smooth texture to it. The matcha latte is another favorite of mine-- extremely rich and they use the perfect amount of milk. I'm also big on matcha being the right shade of green and this place definitely has that vibrant shade I look for which signals to me that they use quality matcha and that it isn't watered down. Service is always great as well. I usually order on the app and the drink is ready within 5 - 10 minutes. The ambiance is quit nice, too. High ceilings, ample seats and free wifi! (We gladly shop at companies, such as Nordstom's, where return policies are favorable to customers.) Blue Bottle return policy is OVERLY RESTRICTIVE. I purchased a mug online and rinsed it before "use". It leaked as I struggled with the awkward cap. Imagine if it was full of hot coffee and it leaked. So we were surprised and disappointed to learn the Blue Bottle policy considers this item "used" because it was rinsed! Therefore, ineligible for return for full credit. What was to become of the returned "unused" item? Resell it to an unsuspecting customer? Blue Bottle makes terrific coffee. But verify before you buy merchandise. read more

I'm not from the Bay Area and I don't, usually, drink coffee so this whole 'Blue Bottle' thing was new to me. But I was with a friend who loves coffee and I didn't want the afternoon to end so I came with. I'm glad I did. I received a coffee experience that felt very Bay Area to me.* From walking in, the vibe hits you: minimal and serious. I was ready to encounter some serious attitude but then the strangest thing happened: the barista smiled and welcomed us. She asked if we had any questions. I did but I was too coffee-intimidated to ask so I relied on my reading comprehension skills to do the rest. I spied some baked goods but refrained from ordering one. I'd just had a gluten-tinged lunch. I didn't want to press my luck by diving back in that pool. I will say, though: the chocolate cookie thing looked incredible. Intrigued by the description, I ordered the Three Africas. I was told it would be right up and that they'd find me outside to deliver my order. Right on. Outside the shop, I felt like I was back in Brooklyn... back when ladies were living single not the ridiculousness it is now. I digress... I was chilling at my table, bags splayed out on the wide sidewalk, getting into a deep conversation with my friend when my coffee came out. It was served in a glass cup (fancy!) and the aromas were very pleasant. The coffee description promised 'golden raisin, winey blueberry and lemon zest' and I smelled/tasted all three. The blend wasn't at all bitter. Instead, it was bright, citrusy and very drinkable. I'd been scared away from adding sugar and cream, lest I be seen as a couthless ogre. The thing is, it didn't need anything. It was perfect as is. For a non-coffee drinker, this is high praise. Coffee drinkers don't need me to tell them to come here. They're already fans. For the non-coffee drinking coffee drinkers, this spot will turn you around.
