The Quickly brand will always have a special place in my heart. In college, for hours at a time, I would study at the local Quickly while munching on fried snacks and sipping boba. Although I now have higher expectations for what constitutes a good pearl milk tea, I still visit Quickly from time to time for my fried fish ball fix. This particular location has fish balls for a cheaper price than some of the other Chinatown spots, and they always come out piping hot. Judging by the adorable mommy and me umbrellas I saw stashed in the corner today, I believe this location to be a family-owned, independent franchise. I ordered sweet potato fries here, as after comparing prices with another boba shop in the area, Quickly had it cheaper (it was $4.75 before tax/tip at the time of my going there which was about half a year ago). Service was fast and I appreciated that the cashier was wearing a mask. You can add your own chili powder or salt and pepper according to your taste and they provide wooden picks/skewers you can use to eat the fries. I thought the fries were pretty decent - crispy and not too soft. The quantity is not huge, and sadly prices have been going up at Quickly over time, but on the plus side that makes it a good portion for a small snack. read more

I absolutely love quickly for 2 reasons 1) they have green tea jelly 2) they have popcorn chicken. I came here with my friend and we each got a green tea with green tea jelly. When we were paying it was around $3 and I reiterated that I wanted two, and she said yes, it's for 2. The price is amazing! Very quick and hits the spot! Popcorn chicken at almost every quickly location is fire. Add some spice power and it's heaven. Parking is a little hard to find in the area so give it an extra 10-20 minutes. read more

This site has sentimental value to me, since it was where Next Collection used to be located. Imagine how difficult it was to purchase car parts (and all the decals!) back when the mod scene was in its infancy stage. Next Collection was the spot that handled all our needs. Those of you old enough to remember Tuning Concept magazine can sympathize with me. I was sad to see the place go due to widespread competition, but was glad to see a tapioca shop filling up the vacancy. Unfortunately, that place, called My Love Cafe (Justin Timberlake had nothing to do with it), was simply horrible. Each time I rolled by, I counted a collective total of zero patrons. To top it all off, there was a sign out front that read, "Today [sic] special. Tuna fish sandwich $2." I don't know, man. With all the cuisine choices in Chinatown, tuna isn't exactly high up there on my wishlist. That sign was up every single day until the shop finally gave up the ghost. This Quicklys always has cashiers that aren't very friendly, always seems to be growling when I pass by, and never have taro! My dear lord. Quickly is probably the first boba place I went to when I got introduced to bubble tea. Seeing that this particular boba brand has been dying down, I'm really glad this particular one in Chinatown is still around. This is my go to place ever for jasmine milk tea. That is the drink I order 99% of the time. They just make it right for my tastes buds. I've had jasmine milk tea elsewhere like I-tea, T4, TapEx, etc. but, quickly is the one I always come back to. Some places make it too creamy for my liking whereas quickly has found the right balance of tea flavoring and creamer. Absolute perfection. A large jasmine milk tea with boba usually rings up to $3 only! Sometimes $2.75 even! I don't really know how their pricing works since each time I find that it's a different price (plus or minus $0.25) I don't get food here often since it is more like snack foods and usually I'm out looking for more dense meals for lunch. However, when I do, I really enjoy their popcorn chicken rice bowls. That use to be one of my favorites back in the days. Also, their fried fish balls are delicious. Love being able to adjust the salt pepper seasoning by myself so I can make it just right. In my experience, service is pretty fast. My one drink order is really simple so that may be why. It's a Quicky's in Chinatown surrounded by many others Boba spots. Not the best or worst of quicklys. A small shop that has one table so more so a quick takeout spot. Sometimes I crave a quickly quality drink popcorn chicken and Thai tea snow but otherwise it's like any other quickly and it fulfills that duty. I had this brilliant idea to put boba in my froyo, so off I went to Quickly with Jeff C (http://www.yelp.com/biz/quickly-oakland#hrid:LZnNkQFxNKOTIgltpHj58Q). Each of us got a small (5 oz) at the promotional price of 59 cents, with 3 toppings ($1.50), totaling slightly over $2. I chose boba, mango stars, and lychee. Cheapest Froyo yet! Service was friendly, but the store was small with nowhere to sit. We also could not see the toppings available; however, there was a nifty poster with pictures of THIRTY available toppings (not including boba) such as chestnuts, the standard fruits, aloe, yogurt chips, litchi, marshmallows, mochi, and various jellies and chewy things. Check out my picture of the froyo guide!! So the nice lady gave me my froyo, but I saw that it was quite funny looking. Very melted and smothered with toppings. The cup was not very full compared to at other places, but this may be because a third of it had melted already. It was over 80 degrees outside, but still. I ended up pretty much drinking my froyo...not too bad with the boba actually! Now I know why boba isn't on the list of toppings. And I've had a lot of boba in my life, in Taiwan, homemade, all over California...Seriously have we gotten so boba-snooty that we only accept the finest sugary boba? It has to be perfectly QQ de? -- if you don't know what QQ is, it's a chinese phrase that describes the perfect springiness of food like tapioca. Sure, Sweetheart cafe in Berkeley has sweeter, more QQ boba, but Quickly's is still pretty darn good. At some point, you just can't make boba taste that different from everyone else's, so I say set yourself apart by charging less $. That's the only other direction to go in to increase your value! I was walking around Chinatown waiting for my grandma to finish at the doctor when I saw a guy holding a milky pink boba drink. Immediately I got a craving for some kind of strawberry milk tea just like that guy's. I'm not fobby enough to hang around C-town on a regular basis so unfortunately I didn't know where to get good flavored boba. I remembered that there was a Quickly's across the street from the Hello Kitty store, so I head over there to satisfy my craving. I walked into the tiny space and ordered a strawberry milk tea w/ boba. I should've been alerted when I got the drink that it wasn't the same milky pink color I was expecting. Instead, it was clearer and looked more like a strawberry puree color. I took a sip, and it was SOUR. So DISGUSTING! Totally not what my taste buds were expecting. First time at this location last week the bolba tasted a little frozen and the snow strawberry drink was not completely mixed. Yesterday I went there the day after my birthday and I ordered a strawberry banana snow drink and I ordered my bf a strawberry snow drink without the bolba this time! And this time was good. This is definitely a grab and go boba spot. Do not expect to sit down and eat here because the store is very tiny. I would rather get my drink/food and sit by the fountain the Chinatown plaza. Regular milk tea, jasmine green milk tea, and Thai milk tea only set you back a couple bucks (with pearls). Sometimes I like to splurge for coffee milk tea (yay caffeine!) or coconut milk tea (very rich and creamy). For a lighter drink after a heavy meal, iced green tea with honey is very refreshing. And popcorn chicken is the perfect spicy, greasy snack. My favorite Quickly in the Bay Area is still in Concord, CA because it is very large and roomy. read more

I LOVE QUICKLY WITH A PASSION. They're my favorite for boba milk tea. There's something about the soy milk they use. Combined with black tea, I think it's DELICIOUS. I always order the most basic drink on the menu: bubble milk tea (confirm that it comes with tapioca or boba to the person behind the counter, that's just part of the ordering experience). Sometimes I get small, sometimes large, sometimes chubby because life is uncertain so let's go for it! I drink it with ice, but on special days I get it hot and slurp it noisily, my eyes wanting to roll into the back of my head it's so damn good. Because the taste is consistent no matter which Quickly I visit! This one in Oakland has a good banh mi sandwich (their only food I'll eat occasionally) so my review goes here, but I also love the Quickly in Dublin. I know they're a chain but that's the appeal. I practically swerve off the road when I see that familiar orange Quickly logo. One more thing. Do not buy their "mason jar" mug. It's a total ripoff. Fro-Yo here has to go, yea its cheap but its nasty. After having pinkberry down south and having red mango in palo alto, this place has got to go. A little suggestion to the owners of Quickly, back down from the fro-yo hype and stay on the path with the boba, aka the tapioca. It just seems like they have no love for the fro-yo. Looked like they just bought a self serve yogurt machine and added some premixed yogurt. Got all the topping ideas from all the other fro-yo spots and slapped it together over night. I have always had good service and quality drinks here. I don't think I've ever spent more than 3 minutes in this shop --- and we normally order drinks & the popcorn chicken. I also do not come at peak Chinatown hours so that may be the reason why I always get parking right in front of the shop. Anyway, whenever I've gone, it's always the same girl who works the register & makes the drink, she's quiet but she's really sweet and she consistently makes great drinks. Oh, and she has cute bangs so I'd like to ask who cuts her hair! I recommend the watermelon icy and popcorn chicken. Now that I read that, the combination looks pretty gross. Small place in Oakland Chinatown but very convenience to get to. Order are taken as you walk in and made fairly quick. Ordered a Lrg MT with grass jelly and egg pudding tonight and lots of ice and it was perfect. I would let the ice melt a little so it blends so mata is not to sweet. This place might be decent if located in a neighborhood where tapioca is an ambiguous concept. I went last night for a last ditch effort to grab a quick bite and came away very disappointed. I ordered tea eggs, potstickers, and hot grass jelly. The food is mostly microwaved or fried. The intensity of the tea wasn't present in the eggs and the potstickers were fried after it was assured to me that it wouldn't be. Now this was a first: I had one potsticker that was still cold in the middle, after it was fried in supposed high heat. I find it unusual that they would charged me an extra dollar to have tapioca added to the grass jelly; and I didn't realize the clumps of cold red beans until I reached the very bottom. For the price and quality, I could have gone elsewhere for better food and avoid the negative surprises. To add to my distaste, I kept having to get out of my seat in order for the owner of the store to keep going in and out of the store--just so she can hang by the front door. I used to eat Quickly's egg waffles/egg puffs all the time when I was in high school, and it's been a really long time since I've had them. A lot's changed - my Quickly's is now closed, so I was really excited to pop by this one and see that not only were there egg puffs, but they had lots of different flavors. I was torn since they had stuff like coconut and other fun flavors, but I ended up getting the taro. The other change was they're definitely a lot pricier than they used to be, but still cheap enough to justify as a fun midday snack. The order took surprisingly long - people who arrived after me got their food and drink before I did, but it wasn't a huge deal. I didn't really taste any of the taro flavor, and I honestly wasn't sure if they just got my order wrong, but it was still incredibly soft and fluffy and yummy and made me happy, even if I'm not sure if it had any hint of taro. read more
