The Paris breakfast was two large, crisp, hot potato pancakes, perfectly poached eggs with nice portion of melt in your mouth smoked salmon, dollop of sour cream and capers...perfection. Followed by an order of blintzes...slightly crisp crepes stuffed with delicious filling and topped with blueberries and fresh whipped cream...again perfection. My significant other thoroughly enjoyed the generous fresh arugula salad with chicken, nuts and berries. This is a must-stop if you are traveling through this area of New Jersey. My husband and I found this little gem on Yelp. This is the cutest little cafe. The service was amazing. Miriam was very friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding. The omelette was stuffed full; I did not have to "search" for the cheese, ham, nor onion. Stopped by for brunch on a busy weekday. We opted to sit at the bar as it was first come first serve. I tried the combination pierogi and they were awesome. A few of my friends (group of 5) were looking for a spot for brunch on a Saturday morning in the Basking Ridge area and Blue Cafe came up as the overwhelming favorite. I really liked that they had a great balance of breakfast classics and lunch items that was sure to please any one in your party. They also do a great job of accommodating folks of specific diets/allergies. Most of us went for the Warsaw skillet since we wanted that egg and potatoes but also down for the kielbasa - it is a European/Polish & American brunch spot so we had to! Another one of us with a gluten intolerance went for the lemon ricotta pancakes since it is definitely not everyday that you can get a gluten-free version of lemon ricotta pancakes. Not all of us got breakfast! Another one of us got a chicken chipotle sandwich too. The food took a little bit to come out but the service was impeccable and we got our drinks and order placed in no time! I hope the staffing shortages will help alleviate that in the future and I do not blame the cafe at all. Especially since the food was the bomb - everything was delicious. The lemon ricotta pancakes were super fluffy in a way that I never thought gluten-free pancakes could be. The Warsaw skillet had the best balance of savory and breakfast with also amazing slices of baguettes. Dare we say, the multigrain baguette was our favorite by far and the butter to go with it was delicious. The chicken chipotle sandwich was beautifully balanced for a sandwich and had a bomb brioche. A cute local establishment that always has a crowd waiting on weekends, have clearly slayed their breakfast game. Overall good food but very cramped space that getting up post meal might lead to bumping against your neighbors. On a Saturday at 10 in the morning we were able to grab a seat for 3 and ordered chocolate chip pancakes, lemon ricotta pancakes the signature dish, hot chocolate, eggs Benny , American breakfast. Overall huge portion size especially for NJ standards and very nicely presented. Service is a bit slow though and it isn't as kid friendly as I thought, I would give it a 4 star, but due to the service perhaps a 3.5.; also sub par maple syrup, my Costco syrup clearly tastes better. The lemon ricotta pancake is clearly the star, others you could probably have at other diners. Hot chocolate is huge but too sweet for my taste. Will definitely go again when it's a bit quiet so that we can enjoy the slowness of the weekend than jamming against the crowd. read more

Tasty food for a late breakfast around lunch time. The service was a bit stand-off ish and the check at the end of the meal took a long time to get to my table. When you are having a conversation, and it's important, the wait staff should not let that interfere and the passing off of the bill to become an ambiguous excercise! The flavors in my chicken wrap dish were impeccable and delicate. The coffee hot and the other drinks well prepared. Waiters should refill the water glasses on the tables, especially during a business and family meeting.. that's what the glass bottles on the tables are for; I should not have to do the work myself. My tip at the end of the meal is something that needs to be worked FOR (lazy Gen Z, millennials - hint, hint..) and if you do it WELL, you will be rewarded. Waiters at Blue Cafe will no longer get great tips from me UNLESS they do their jobs properly and adequately. There was also quite a bit of nonsensical chatter and banter happening at the bar in the far corner of the restaurant, which interfered with our table conversation and had a nugatory effect on the audibility of our table side conversation. Just because the room is packed, doesn't mean there is NOT at least one Yelpie (Me) there to notice that the bar backs and waitresses are neither paying attention to nor responsive to their respective tables. STOP crowding and circus-ing around that bar in the back. Get out from the bar and serve and wait on your tables! How hard is that: or dare I say that it is a New Jersey thing!? The tables were lain out nicely and lots of attention was devoted to the nice interior decor. However, the noise level at this place was obscene. It's very loud in here practically all morning, and the staff ADD to this incessant noise. Great local breakfast and healthy-snack lunch-type joint with parking that is across the street. Just went to visit the restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed. While my boyfriend and I both enjoyed our food, this is about where the praise ends. It took a while for a server to come first greet us, fine, they were busy. However, after our order was taken we were never checked in on again. No refills given when needed, and had to ask for more water twice. Then, we asked for the check and more ketchup and were not even attended to for over 15 minutes. I went to the manager to the ask for the check, who finally got our server and gifted us a baked good. Upon exiting, we unwrapped it and realized there was an entire bite taken out of it. Highly recommend! I was kind and shared with my friends who also loved it. We had the chicken pear salad, shrimp salad and Paris Morning. Again everything tasted great. The service was excellent as well. Everyone was so attentive and friendly. You can call day of (they open at 8) to make a lunch reservation. Highly recommend doing that. Stopped here for breakfast while on a trip to Edison. Got several breakfast egg choices and coffees but the star of the meal was definitely their Belgian waffles. They are light and melty and served with homemade whipped cream and berries which was also a perfect texture. Also had great service. We each ordered something sweet and got the Paris Morning to share. Of the two dishes, I enjoyed the French Toast more. The thick slices were fluffy and paired well with the homemade whipped cream. I wasn't a huge fan of the caramelized bananas, so I'm glad I got it on the side. The potato pancakes were very dense and reminded me of hash browns. When you live and/or work in New York City, finding a good (to great) brunch spot is not a difficult thing to do. However, out in New Jersey, you can't just walk a few blocks over to the next place most of the time. To that end, you want to choose carefully so while researching excellent brunch spots in New Jersey Blue Cafe came up as a highly recommended option. Blue Cafe is a European/American styled restaurant offering all day breakfast and lunch options. They pride themselves on using fresh ingredients from local farms and bakeries. The interior of the restaurant is cozy and charming but if you're trying to social distance I recommend the outdoor seating if the weather allows. Service was great and I was happy to see the restaurant was well staffed. So let's get to the food, shall we? Ricotta lemon pancakes (Fresh berries, lemon curd) You absolutely must get these. They were amazing. The pancakes are perfectly cooked and *stuffed* with the ricotta. Combine the lemon curd, berries and pancake into one bite and they're absolutely perfect. Warsaw skillet (Two sunny side up eggs, local Pulaski kielbasa, sautéed onion, grape tomato, chives, breakfast potato, French baguette) This dish was fantastic and hearty. There's a lot going on with this dish (as you can see from the description) and the portions were perfect to satisfy me as I deliberately skipped breakfast that morning for this brunch! Even the bread was notable thanks to being grilled and toasted. I would have this again in a heartbeat. Stuffed  cabbage (Filled with ground chicken and rice. Served with tomato sauce and mashed potatoes) Usually chicken is not what is used to make stuffed cabbage, and you might think that this would lack flavor because of it but this dish manages to surprise! First, the cabbage wrapping is cooked and fit perfectly around the stuffing so it does not fall apart the second you cut into it. There is plenty of flavor but add in some tomato sauce and the mashed potatoes and you have some serious comfort food happening here. Pierogies One of the more popular Pierogi places in Union County is by me so I was looking to be impressed. Unfortunately these did not quite live up to what I had hoped. First, we had asked for an assortment, but I think we only got cheese. The flavor was okay, but not great. Overall Blue Cafe is fantastic. It is in a charming part of town and the food is excellent. Their food is overall fantastic. I had a special, salmon with asparagus, spinach and wild rice and the salmon was excellently cooked and delicious. Everyone loved their dishes and everything else coming out of the kitchen smelled delicious. Reasonable prices as well and cute decor. Also the latte was soup sized!
