Food is great for a breakfast and brunch place, especially if you want a more classy feel or take a date here. It's good for weekend or holiday celebrations~ but it can get packed and you might have to wait for a table. Also they make all their bread in house so it's fresh and really delicious. If you're a fan of sourdough, plenty of their dishes also come with sourdough bread instead of your typical factory white bread. I'd say this is more of a fancier diner feel with a light Asian touch to a lot of the pastries. Not too sweet but aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Great brunch spot. Very clean & well maintained. Came here with my girls. Had a lavender honey latte it was great would get it again. My Steak omelette wasn't the best, meat was very tough wouldn't get that again. Kids had the pancakes off the kids menu a little dry to my liking but kids ate it. Support local business! I have been here a few times, and I have to say this is my go-to for a few reasons. The staff is wonderful and helpful.. The produce is locally grown, and the eggs are farm fresh and it shows in the food they prepare. Anything from coffee to breakfast, pastries, burgers, salads and even poke bowls. Ordered the poke bowl that has both salmon and tuna and was very pleasantly surprised at how fresh the fish was considering this is a cafe and probably specialized in brunch foods. The only thing I'd prefer is to have less lettuce and more rice. It had half rice and half lettuce so it was more of like a salad. Would return here! read more

The food was well prepared, what we ordered was more of a fusion flavor than traditional cafe fare, which was good but wasn't clear from the menu. The service was iffy. We got delivered an extra coffee we didn't order. We asked for ketchup for the home fries and did not get it. Mostly what I would say is that it was so loud I could not think. This is one of those things I wish restaurants would take into account that so few do -- how do you deaden the sound. If you have hard walls and tall ceilings, it looks nice, but god forbid any of your clients have auditory processing disorder or difficult hearing. When one of their employees questioned this practice, they were reportedly told that tips should go to the business. This employee also experienced reduced work hours after speaking up and was subjected to verbal and physical treatment that was less than respectful. If you choose to dine here, please be aware that your tips will go directly to the owner, not the server. The owner is also known to closely supervise and direct staff, often in a way that can be perceived as overly controlling. While I tend to subscribe to the adage that one should praise in public and criticize in private, I must make an exception regarding the food items I had today from the Brown Sugar Cafe ("BSC"). I ordered the French toast, eggs, bacon, hash browns and sausage. My perspective is that breakfast foods are hard to mess up but the staff at BSC managed to do so spectacularly, each food item was so bland that it was clear the cooks were inexperienced or the recipes they use were void of any seasoning whatsoever. The final insult (beyond the dismissive attitude of the hostess when I picked up the food) was the price. Compared to a local diner, (which I enthusiastically recommend-Time to Eat) the cost of each dish was exorbitant (3x what one would expect to pay). I really wanted to support this local business but sadly I cannot and in good conscience I could never recommend this place to anyone. Here's to hoping they change something soon because if the rest of the menu is this bad, I cannot imagine this place will last long. read more
