Amazing little deli. We wanted sandwiches on the way from Rhode Island to PA. Woodbridge was about halfway and this deli had good reviews. We can see why. It's a walk up and order place with no tables inside but a picnic area outside. Great value and friendly staff. My wife got a turkey and avocado sandwich and it was packed with turkey. I got a ham, egg, and cheese wrap and it was delicious. It was hot and the eggs were light and fluffy. A ton of ham stuffed into the flour tortilla. Likely won't be back as we were passing through but if you're local or in the area -- well worth a visit. read more

I was very happy the first time I was here back in February 17th 2020 It's a family run deli with good sandwiches. Very good banana bread. Amazing banana bread to be exact. Best I've had out anywhere unless when I make it at home. The breakfast sandwiches are great. The deli sandwiches are also very good. The staff is awesome. Especially one in particular. I believe her name is Jennifer. She is so hospitable. She always has time to strike a quick conversation with you regardless of how busy she is. It seems she is one of the favorites there. I've watched a few times while I waited or while I sat and ate there. It seems that most of the people coming in she remembers. She is very pleasant. This has always been a happy stop on my way out from New Haven heading to Seymour or Naugatuck. This small deceiving place will surprise you. It surprised me too. read more

The food here is not bad but also not great. I would give it a 6 out of 10. The food is also way too overpriced. For example it costs 18 dollars for a steak and cheese sandwich. Although it's a town favorite since it's only about a mile away from Amity High school. The service is fine and the ambiance is nice. Defenitly their best sandwich is the Blue Bird. It's a fried chicken sand which is very good. This place wouldn't be my first choice to go, but it also defenitly wouldn't be my last choice read more

Passed this deli numerous times, we decided to stop in one morning to give it a try. The place is full of clutter and dreary inside, nor was it the cleanest. The women working behind the counter was pleasant. Ordered - The Kentucky Derby* brown sugar 'n spice secret (BTW this is "cheap" maple syrup) 3 eggs, ham, topped with melted Provolone cheese on a hard roll. The Rock 'N Horse* 3 eggs, steak, grilled onions, green peppers, & melted horseradish cheddar cheese on a hard roll & 2- hash browns Worst breakfast sandwiches ever.... Will not stop here again or recommend it to anyone. Not sure if the cook was even experienced seem all over the place and took forever to make our sandwiches. read more

Had lunch here for the first time. I got the chicken cutlet. It was okay. I feel like the cutlet may have been a pre made one and not homemade. However my husband got the philly cheese steak sub and it was one of the best he's ever had. We will return and next time I'll try something else. read more

Have driven by this place so many times and finally decided to stop in today after a long walk in the Farmington Canal Trail. It's small and unassuming but lots of options. I loved the squash parmigiana sandwich, such a great take on this idea for I am a vegetarian who does not like eggplant! My husband had the Justin Morgan which was tender chicken and a delicious hot sauce, a combo he loves. Will definitely be trying it again. read more

I just started working in the area so I decided to check out the Blue Check Village for the first time this week. It seemed to have good reviews so I was looking forward to trying it out. The first morning I went, I ordered a breakfast sandwich. The guy at the counter was nice enough, but seemed to be new to the job because he was all over the place. They were busy, which is normally a good sign, but my sandwich was taking way longer than it should have ( I know this because I managed a busy deli for years). The woman making the sandwich was friendly, but when she told me that my food would be done soon, she wiped her nose with her bare hand and then grabbed the tomato for my sandwich. I was in a rush so I didn't say anything. Against my better judgment, I ate the sandwich and it was nothing special. The second day I went in, I only got a coffee and some banana bread. The girl running the register was rude and took two other customers' orders before mine even though I was in line first. Almost all of the coffees were empty, but I was able to get the last little bit of regular which was lukewarm and didn't taste great. The banana bread was also nothing special. Today, I went in for the third time, hoping that maybe I would have a better experience. I called ahead and gave them my order and the guy was friendly over the phone. When I arrived about 10 minutes later, my sandwich was not ready (which was not a big deal), but the guy waved me aside and took three other orders/payments without cashing me out first. He also went from taking a customer's money with bare hands to grabbing two bagels off the counter to give to the woman making sandwiches. By the time he cashed me out and I left with my sandwich, I was almost late for work because he forgot that I was waiting. In addition to all of that, I got to work and my sandwich was completely wrong. After three tries, I will not be going back. I'm not sure where all of the good reviews are coming from, but I can only assume they are from regulars who either don't care about proper food-handling techniques or who get preferential treatment because they are regulars. Been driving by this place for 40 years and stopped in for the first time recently. Given the demographics of its location I was expecting something upscale but it's actually grungy and down-market. My sandwich was good but the mask I wore in there picked up the grease smell from the air and had to be thrown away. They'd do well to clean this place up a bit. read more

Blue Check is one kick ass deli. They aren't gourmet at all, but what they do is make great sandwiches and excellent prepared foods. It's pretty much an Italian style deli, so expect a lot of good cold cuts, antipasto, etc. Their breakfast sandwiches are truly awesome. They can kind of be gut busters, but once a year or so it's worth it if you ask me. Yeah, it's a little small, and a little expensive, but, hey, it's a locally owned deli that's near and dear to most of us who grew up around it. If you're ever near the New Haven/Woodbridge border during the day, definitely stop in and grab a sandwich (but not Sundays, as they are closed). read more

This place was very dirty looking and run down. To say it lacked decor would be an understatement. I had been here years ago, but I don't recall it being in such a state of disrepair. The staff had had a long day and were in less than polite spirits. They ran out of rolls and made me a sandwich on white bread instead and still charged me full price. The cranky counter staff was unfamiliar with the vegetarian options and it wasn't until after I ordered that I found some obscure reference to a few probably very good vegetable sandwiches. Best sandwich I've ever had! I just moved to the area. We tried Katz Deli first it was ok but I wasnt blown away. It didnt live up to the hype. This place on the other hand doesn't have enough hype. I do not like writing poor reviews, but this place deserves to know of their poor customer service. I have been in the deli several times after church on Sundays and the serving staff is asleep at the wheel! Twice I have stood by the counter and practically have to wave my arms to get someone to pay attention. My opinion was kept it to myself until this morning when my wife went in to get some streusel for us to enjoy-yes after church. She stood there for over 5 minutes without being acknowledged or asked for help-depite the fact that there multiple workers available. She left. We used to frequent Blue Check for sandwiches all the time, but now we only go on occasion. Now it will be sometime before we go back. I have, on several occasions, gone out of my way during my morning commute to get a breakfast sandwich from Blue Check. Their deli sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, and buttered corn muffins (best I've ever had anywhere in Connecticut). They've never messed up an order with me but even if they did I'd have no doubt they'd make it right with out question. I didn't know rude was on the menu!!! I understand that they are under new management but this is no excuse. When i called to place a order for pick up... I got a very rude greeting followed by the most unprofessional response to me ordering something they do not offer anymore. Cursing was involved (not directly to me but about the fact she has to look up the item and that they don't offer it). I can only assume they changed their menu yet again... because this was from a menu after the new owners. This was such an unpleasant experience we went somewhere else for lunch. Blue Check never disappoints. Their sandwiches are generously portioned, to say the least, and are always delicious. They have a good range of items on their menu - from their signature subs to deli salads, everything is fresh and delicious. The prices are good for the amount of food you get. They recently added oven baked pizza to their menu which is really delicious if you like a crispy crust. My favorite pizza is the Buffalo Bomb - chicken cutlet with jalapeno peppers and horseradish mayo. Blue Check is always a good bet. read more

I've been going there since high school when we would sneak out of Amity by skirting the gates on a motorcycle and head down for lunch. Love the pepperoni and cheese bulkie.
