As someone who grew up in Branford, Hornets Nest Deli is the latest in a string of restaurants on that property. We were in town for a wedding and stopped in to get lunch. The Greek salads were excellent. Fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, Kalamata olives, stuffed grape leaves, and grilled chicken. We washed our salads down with our favorite Foxon Park white birch beer, sitting at the tables outside. There is indoor seating as well and the cafe has sports memorabilia from the 2000s as the main decor. The counter service was very friendly and they were kind enough to bring our food out to us at the outside table. I highly recommend Hornets Nest!! read more

As a former Branford High Hornet from a long line of Branford High Hornets this place was so nostalgic! All of the photos and articles on the walls made such a great atmosphere. My family and I were visiting from out of town for a few days and came here twice for breakfast. I wish we had been able to swing one more breakfast sandwich because the food here is outstanding! I don't know if it was the pandemic or simple lack of interest, but the quality of their products has been horrendous. I hate to call them out, but I want to get them back on top. Listen no one wants one fat thick cutlet on their sandwich...it's disgusting!!! It's a little extra work and labor, but would it kill you to take a mallet and pound the chicken out before you fry it? It's the little things that make delis great. They've lost this trait. Hopefully they wake up and realize they're serving trash. I recently called ahead to see if I could use the wifi outside an hour after closing because I wanted a cool backdrop for a Zoom interview. The person who answered the phone double checked, then quickly responded, "SURE!" I got the job. This is one of many treats from this local treasure. When I lost my Paypal card and had dropped it outside last year, a staffer tried to track me down through social media. The food is tasty and wholesome.
