So good looking sandwiches! This deli is not only a great take out spot but also has lots of indoor seating. The staff at the counter were friendly and provided quick service. The sandwiches are on the expensive side but definitely filling. The bacon on the Sweet Pete sandwich was perfectly crispy and the Lumberjack sandwich was full of flavor. As someone who grew up in Branford, Hornets Nest Deli is the latest in a string of restaurants on that property. We were in town for a wedding and stopped in to get lunch. The Greek salads were excellent. Fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, Kalamata olives, stuffed grape leaves, and grilled chicken. We washed our salads down with our favorite Foxon Park white birch beer, sitting at the tables outside. There is indoor seating as well and the cafe has sports memorabilia from the 2000s as the main decor. The counter service was very friendly and they were kind enough to bring our food out to us at the outside table. I highly recommend Hornets Nest!! read more

As a former Branford High Hornet from a long line of Branford High Hornets this place was so nostalgic! All of the photos and articles on the walls made such a great atmosphere. My family and I were visiting from out of town for a few days and came here twice for breakfast. I wish we had been able to swing one more breakfast sandwich because the food here is outstanding! The only problem is that it closes at 3:00pm to 3:30pm depending on the day. My hot dog was overcooked but was still good. I recommend the French fries. Their thanksgiving sandwich with turkey, stuffing and cranberry mayo was a big hit with my peeps. I don't know if it was the pandemic or simple lack of interest, but the quality of their products has been horrendous. I hate to call them out, but I want to get them back on top. Listen no one wants one fat thick cutlet on their sandwich...it's disgusting!!! It's a little extra work and labor, but would it kill you to take a mallet and pound the chicken out before you fry it? It's the little things that make delis great. They've lost this trait. Hopefully they wake up and realize they're serving trash.
