Great stuffed breads. They really put a lot in there stuffed breads, so good. There pizza is also very good.

And we sure found a good one in Hamden on Friday. We saw refrigerated cases full of pastas and raviolis, counters with trays of pizzas, showcases with trays of prepared foods like sausage and oeooers, eggplant rollatinis, and seafood marinara, a sandwich counter for cold cuts, and a baked goods counter. We narrowed our want list down to three very different items. We bought two slices of their sausage pizza, two garlic knots, and three eggplant rollatinis. The pizza was fantastic! Super thin crust, plenty (and I mean PLENTY) of cheese, a very good sauce and delicious sausage chunks. Oh, and the slices were enormous. We made a dinner out of the eggplant and garlic knots. The eggplant was sliced so thin, and was so soft and tender, it resembled lasagna noodles! The rollatinis were loaded with ricotta cheese and marinara sauce and it was a fantastic dish. We split the three rolls and let me tell ya, one and a half rolls were plenty for dinner. The garlic knots were ridiculously loaded with garlic, not teeny tiny shavings, but big hunks of garlic cloves. Needless to say, they were fantastic as well. Our total cost was $24.66, and Sapori threw in four complimentary slices of fresh Italian bread with our order. We really loved Sapori a lot. read more

I just brought home the "grandma pizza" (I call it the Nonni pizza) very simple sauce, cheese ..my son Antonio said "oh it's the GOOD pizza".. the sauce is what makes it excellent; the bread is a weekly purchase as well for us. I found this place in a whim and glad I did! It is hard to find pizza by the slice in CT. I tried the grandma slice at Saporis and it reminded of a slice I would get back at home in NY! The plum marinara sauce was delicious! Just the right amount of cheese! They have a really nice pignoli dessert! It's a great night cap! Give this place a try if you haven't already! read more

I was traveling in Hamden and was looking at the reviews for a sub and Sapori D'italia came up with excellent reviews. I stopped by and ordered a chicken parm sub. There is no place to sit down and eat so I attempted to eat it it the car..... bad mistake! Though very tasty it was extremely runny. I ended up wearing more than I ate. I've lived in Hamden for 6 years and getting good pizza without having to go to downtown New Haven was a real struggle... until now. I just tried Sapori D'Italia for the first time last night and the pizza was delicious. Staff was super friendly. Thin crust, the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. I am so mad at myself for not trying this place sooner but at the same time, I am so happy now I could cry! And the best part, they are 1/2 mile from my house. They don't deliver (nothing good in Hamden does) but I can literally walk there if I had to. I think their prices are reasonable - a large cheese pizza was less than $15. I can't wait to try one of their grinders! Keep in mind this is a small shop with no tables inside (I noticed a few picnic tables in back though!). It is basically a deli with really good to-go Italian food. They also sell some prepared hot food specialties, cold salads, frozen fresh pasta, etc. And they close early, only open to 8 PM (9 PM on Fridays). I've been making some pretty bad decisions when it comes to food and this happened to be one of them. My pizza, which I got via Doordash, came swiftly but the pizza itself was pretty bad. Actually that's me putting it lightly. The pizza was horrific. I got the Cheese pizza along with a Spinach pizza topped with caramelized onions. The pizza was burnt and legitimately had no flavor to it. This was after I endured a tepid conversation with the staff who answered when I called to confirm my order went through the app. Overall, I will not be ordering from them again. read more

The question is - with New Haven being the pizza center of the universe - is there room for other pizza places outside of Wooster and State Street (home of Pepe's, Sally's and Modern?) The answer is - yes. Sapori D'italia is a small take-out italian place on Circular Ave in Hamden. They serve more then pizza - they have a full (and impressive) italian menu coupled with an impressive catering menu as well. Like a true italian deli - they sell meats, cheeses as well as a lot of italian import items I've never heard of as well. All food is take out - but we order from here all the time. Big - oversized grinders, dinners, salads as well. Keep in mind that this place gets a lot of respect from the local Hamden residents - and as such - this place can get awfully busy at times. A good problem to have. Calling ahead is advised! I'm not saying that Sabori is as-good as the top-3 New Haven places, but it's a good local place and it shouldn't be overlooked when the trip to New Haven isn't feasible. read more

O. My. Gorsh. As a fake Italian who grew up in jersey and connecticut this is exactly what I'm looking for in a deli/bakery/etc. got two italian combos and a house-made cannoli, both delicious. I stopped to eat my first half in the parking lot and despite it being after the lunch rush a steady flow of people kept going in, picking up sandwiches, deserts, and prepared food--my partner mentioned aloud they were hungry and the man next to us confirmed, "you've come to the right place." A part of me doesn't want to write this review. I want this to remain a low-key secret, but here's the truth. This is the best pizza in New Haven county. I mean it. For a while I considered Modern to be the best, but it's Sapori. The toppings are amazing, the crust is perfect, and they pay close attention to the details. OMG this place is amazing. about 1 mile away from our new condo, and their pizza is incredible. I would suggest calling ahead, because the place is small and the wait can be long. We tried it for lunch as well the other day, and the subs are ENORMOUS! Definitely big enough for 2 people to split. The chicken parm sub was excellent. Also, don't miss the garlic knots for 95cents each. yum. Next I want to try their stuffed bread, and some dessert. I place my first order with Sapori this past Friday. I've been looking for a good local (Hamden) pizza place and this place came with good reviews from a co-worker. I ordered a medium red pie - 1/2 sausage, mushroom and mozz and the other 1/2 just mozz. Eager to try it, I couldn't wait to get home! So I was greatly disappointed when I got home, opened the box and found a totally differently topped pizza. I received the wrong one :( So I couldn't give this rating more stars because of the flub up, but it tasted okay, so I will give this place another try at some point. read more

So during the first storm of the season I order a pizza with two extra slices , shit came to $23 for a medium and 2 slices first of all. Ok cool, I pay. Get home and guess what, I'm missing the 2 slices. Call them and say wtf, it's snowing hard after and I have to DRIVE back to you ? As a loyal customer, I should be accommodated. Was I........ When I first moved down the street, I was really excited to see an Italian deli so close. Those feelings were crushed after ordering food a couple times there. First I tried their prosciutto panini that was on special, at $10 I expected a bomb sandwich. Unfortunately, what I got was a soggy and cold sandwich with prosciutto that was cut way too thick. Since I lived close I would go home and try to melt the cheese in the oven but the bread was too soggy to hold together. Then I tried their pizza slices, again very subpar with a lot of grease. I have since given up on their menu items and only stop to occasionally pick up a loaf of Italian bread or a pastry ,I've had better at Rocco's or Disorbos down the street and at a cheaper price.
