I was sick of paying through the nose for a haircut in my neighborhood, so I put faith in the positive reviews and walked into Blue Chip earlier this afternoon. All I can say is that I'm almost loath to write a great review for fear that tons of people will flock to this hidden gem which is incredibly affordable for a quality haircut. Lubasha listened to what I wanted (which was pretty simple) and did offer up a comment that more may need to come off since my ends were in pretty rough shape (understandable, since I haven't had a haircut in over a year). As she was cutting my hair, she said, "Now your hair is smiling." I'm glad I trusted her judgment, because I came out of there with a nicely shaped head of hair; now I am ready for that interview on Thursday! Pro-tip - if you go in cashless, you're probably going to have to find an ATM (of which there are plenty nearby); not a problem if you read the reviews before you go. After searching and searching throughout Fidi and lower Manhattan for a decent cut, one year after moving here i came across Blue Chip and made an appointment. I hadn't quite noticed it on my map before so I decided to give it a shot. I have gone to nearly every barber from fidi through to the west village and let me tell you - I have been ripped off, Ive been given attitude from nearby douchy places for asking for a tape up, and I've traveled 25 mins on bike to get a haircut. NO MORE! FINALLY!! Mark is very friendly - does an AWESOME fade - and is reasonably priced. $25 for a fade - and forehead shape up. He was quick and my hair looks great. I'm reluctant to write such a good review for fear of him getting booked up, but I want this place and the barbers to remain here forever. This is my new spot! Luba is amazing!!!! I have hair almost to my waist, she gave me layers exactly as I asked around my face, volume at the top and long layers in the back. She checked in halfway through to make sure I would be happy. I walked out of there looking like I had gone to a ridiculously expensive salon. This is literally the best cut I've had in a decade. On top of that she was so warm and lovely to talk to, it was like getting a hug at the end of the day. As if that wasn't enough the lady doing hair next to her was also so much fun and kind to me as well. I not only looked great walking out of there, but I felt wonderful. I needed a trim and walked in after reading the reviews. I didn't wait long and got Aida. She did a shampoo, cut and blow dry, it was $55. I have a little longer than shoulder length and extremely thin hair. The cut has made my hair look really awful, she has somehow made my fine hair even stragglier. She didn't seem to have any interest in the kind of hair I had or issues I wanted to address. The place is neat but not necessarily sparkling clean. For the price I paid, I would have had a better outcome and experience in Chinatown. Not worth it for me and I won't be returning. read more

Just had a hair cut here and the lady used the razor for my sides AND THR TOP OF MY HEAD. I have never seen anyone attempt to cut the top without using scissors. My hair is probably 1-2 inches long and I wanted a trim to that to tidy it up. I came out with a standard 5 year old hair cut. Never again. Whole haircut lasted 6 mins.terrible. read more

I just had my hair blown out here and the lady basically lectured me after I told her I wasn't pleased with the look. I informed her she over teased my hair and just wanted it fixed but she just came yelling at me. They then charged me $55 after telling me it would cost $35 on the phone. Wow! That is all I can say after coming to this place and receiving a very good fade for a very reasonable price for downtown Manhattan. I came in yesterday and was very impressed with the service offered by one of the barbers, I believe his name was mark. He gave me a very impressive skin fade that even a few woman at the bar commented on. He really took his time and made sure to clean up all the edges. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants good service and a good haircut. Mark was great and the rest of staff seemed just as knowledgeable and welcoming. read more
