I think this place needs hygiene. I know they recently renovated inside but so many stranger's hairs are all over the places; On the floor, inside bathroom, as well as on the bench. (They'll ask us to sit down?!?!?!) Since they ask Inc high price $15 all together (for the hair cut for man) without choice that giving chips. I saw others yelp reviews saying that $8 + chip. Again, old man laugh and talking to the colleges in Chinese. So unprofessionals!! Since most of the customers are Chinese, they probably understand what they're talking. I avoid here...... Those who come in here, they don't care about hygiene? 5 stars? and avoiding their original price?! Are you sure? I'm not recommending here to anyone!! My go-to barber shop in NYC! Not your glamorous salon day if you're looking for that, but gets the job done and the price can't be beat! For just a cut, it's $7 for men (I can only speak for the men). I usually do the Cut & Wash for $10 (not including tip) and they sure know how to cut an Asian male's hair! The barbers are mainly Chinese speaking, but if you have a photo, they can accommodate and if you know your fade, they usually know what's up. It is Cash Only, so come with enough cash to tip as well! I always treat myself to something in Chinatown after because it's right in the heart of it. Cool efficiency is what I like. In and out in 10 minutes, though I had to wait about 10 minutes because all 3 chairs were full and 2 people were waiting. There's no chatting or elevator music, just the constant buzz of the electric clippers going all day. I have straight Asian hair and that's what they are good at. The 2 guys and 1 lady will ask how you would like it and get down to business. Chinatown used to have tons of these basement barber shops, about one every other block. I remember my dad bringing me to one of these when I was about 5 and haircuts were $1.50. We won't talk about rice bowl cuts here. So for the bargain basement (pun intended) price of $6 and 10 minutes of your time, you can get a pretty decent haircut. I wanted it really short up the sides and the back and my guy went to town. I like his technique with the clippers shaving through the comb. He did some fine trimming with a smaller shaver and straight razor and finished off with a quick blow of the hair dryer. If it gets crowded, you can wait outside on the stairs or topside on the sidewalk, due to social distancing. You keep your face mask on in the chair and they will lift the straps when they need to work around your ears. Give them a nice tip because they are hard working people trying to get by in these tough times, open 7 days/week from 9am-7pm. They speak Cantonese with a smattering of english and if you don't then you can get away with hand-gesturing how you want your cut and it'll come out how it'll come out anyway. read more

So first things first this is the place you come if you want to maximize your wallet but also get a quality quality haircut. this review is specifically for a male haircut my husband went there he had asked me to find a place so I jumped on Yelp of course and I went searching for places that were close by to where we were eating. I came across this place in another place unfortunately the other location so I had closed down it was not updated in Yelp so then we came to this location. full disclosure there was a long wait time because it was extremely packed and it was a Sunday afternoon so definitely peak time for people to probably get haircuts and do other errands in the day. So let's talk about the haircut it was pure perfection! I do not know the name of the person who cut the hair. we tried to understand each other but there were some language barriers but he was amazing it was a better haircut than my husband ever had at you know places that charge 20 30 forty $50 for a haircut so when I say that this was one of the best I've literally mean one of the best haircut he's had in years. On top of the beautiful haircut it was quick after you get in line. This is a no-frills type of location so don't expect any sort of glamorous decor or massage chairs etc. Get in, wait in line, pay $7 and tip, and leave feeling like you just won something because you did...your bank account. Back here after 10 years and still a decent, value haircut/trim. A $5 haircut is now $6 for guys. Back when I came here, I was a poor student so I opted to not get their hair wash/blow dry. Currently on a trip in NYC and was in desperate need of a haircut. Came back here yesterday... and this time around, I got the whole package for $8 (price without tip)! Still an excellent value for a quick hair trim. FYI: the hair wash was after the haircut. If you plan to get the whole package, I would recommend not putting any hair product in your hair given that the hair wash would be after the cut. Place is still cash-only so make sure to bring at least a $20. Knowing Chinese still does help but the folks here have enough non-Chinese patrons that using English and a photograph of what you're looking for will work. Right before me and after me were English-speaking folks looking for haircuts, so don't be afraid :-). read more

Pretty efficient haircut and definitely very fast. I had not had a haircut in a while actually but today got it in and enjoyed the service and prompt nature of this today. I got a short cut but not super short and finally trimmed some of my beard that you have been sporting the past few months. The cut and shave was $10 and then you know you just give a good tip for the good service here. Will definitely be back again here for a haircut. read more

Small, unassuming place. Not very clean but that's the train why it's so cheap. I was curious and needed a haircut. The barbers are old and I got this man who didn't speak English and I don't speak Mandarin. So I just point and use my hands to Mimic how I want my haircut. He didn't understand but we nodded just to get started. He was quick and quite good but I was disappointed he cut too much hair so it's super short now. It woulda been helpful if they have pics where u can just point at the hairstyles you want but they don't. Still it's crazy cheap at just $6. More for ladies. They do women's haircuts too! $6 plus tip. I wanted my hair trimmed an inch, and didn't want to pay full salon prices. With my limited Chinese, I told the barber I only wanted my hair cut a little shorter. He confirmed the length with a hand gesture, and then asked in English if I wanted layers (I did not.) He also asked, using gestures, if I wanted the front shorter than the back (I also did not.) I have very thick hair, and he did a thorough job! He took the time to clip the top layer of my hair and trim the bottom layer first, before moving on to the top layer. He also made sure my hair was even and not choppy. Total time was about 15 minutes. Well worth $6. They sweep the floor at the end of the day, so expect to see hair from the previous customer on the ground when you sit down. They also tied a strip of toilet paper around my neck before putting on the Barber cape, I guess to keep hair from falling in. That threw me off a bit. Overall good experience! There's an old adage that you get what you pay for, and I think the person who coined that had this barbershop in mind. I'm not sure what exactly I was expecting, but it probably didn't involve wearing a mask throughout my entire haircut, being overcharged for said haircut, then being berated for a tip the minute I paid for it. Look, I'm not going to deny the technical proficiency of the woman who did my hair-she was at least as good as the last four barbers I've went to-but there is something to be said for transparency, cordiality and simple politeness. It's $5 for a men's haircut. Super cheap. You're not going to get a perfect precise haircut, but seriously for $5, it's pretty good and we're not going to complain. It's an absolute hole-in-the-wall. You take a set of stairs down to a basement. Either no English or very little English is spoken, but with hand gestures, enough communication happens to get what you want (to a degree) done. As soon as I walked in, he gestured towards the chair, and in a minute, my scruffy long locks were already gone. They use scissors, different sizes of razors, and pay a lot of attention to detail. Always remember to leave a tip, and id you'd like, have em wash/dry your hair for an extra 3. Depending on the barber, they may not know English. Never let the older man cut your hair. The two ladies are amazing, cutting hair super quickly and doing it well. The older man takes 3x as long, and will absolutely ruin your hair. I asked for a trim and he assaulted my head with the buzz cutters, not a single scissor used. No finesse at all and absolutely ruined my cut right before I graduate. Honestly a pretty great fade and cut for $6! But, they didn't clean the equipment at all after a haircut right before me and that's quite unsanitary. Cheap cut, but run the risk of unsanitary equipment being used on you. Won't be coming back unfortunately for that reason. read more

Good place to get a fast and cheap haircut. I don't think I've ever waited longer than about 5 mins to get a haircut. The barbers don't speak English and I don't speak Chinese, so I have to use sign language to tell the barber how I want my haircut. The haircut is also very fast. I'm in and out of here in about 15 mins or so. My hair is relatively simple to cut and I get a pretty standard haircut. That said, the barbers here do a pretty good job. $4 for the cut and I tip $2. read more
