Blue Diamond did a terrific job. We had spoken to many contractors, but too many either did not return calls, or wanted to make cosmetic changes but not fix the basics, or wanted to do work without city permits and inspections. Our small 1958 house needed all the basics. Sewer lines needed replacement, water line needed replacement, interior galvanized plumbing lines needed replacement. Unsafe ungrounded electrical wiring needed replacement. We needed more outlets, better lighting, outside outlets. HVAC was in attic, old, not up to code and ripped ducting. Needed to be replaced and relocated. Roof needed replacement, old aluminum single glazed windows needed to go. Cream shag carpet and ugly hard to clean floor tile (which was on counter and backsplash too) had to go. We needed insulation. A proper vent for the stove. New backsplash and counters, new toilet and sinks. We left our fifties single bath and cupboards to save money. In only a little over two months from start of work, working with city inspectors and all up to code, they took our house down to the bare concrete floors, the ceilings down, the bare bones exposed, and built it back up, new, improved, everything safe and working, and much more beautiful. With a working kitchen and finally a dishwasher and disposal and washer dryer! The bones are 1958 but the house is 2020. Shout outs to Hayk the electricIan, Zach the plumber, David the carpenter, all the drywall guys and everyone else for doing a great job. Max addressed any issues promptly, and was very responsive. The team accommodated us staying on site with the cats, and there were no escapes. Having the in-house Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing made all the difference. Sometimes we had multiple crews working simultaneously. Everyone was courteous and wonderful to work with. The whole house was brought up to code and passed all the needed inspections. and even the inspectors commented on the quality work that was being done. We still have a small, three bedroom one bath house, but it's now the house we dreamed it could be. In fact, we had everyone sign the house as they finished! Quality craftsmanship is an art form, and we are delighted with the results. Blue Diamond worked well with outside contractors, too. To save some bucks, we had Window World do the windows and a neighbor did a great job paintIng. This caused no problems. On time, at budget (yes there were a few unforeseen items that brought it up but nothing serious)). And now we have a beautiful home we can retire in. Kudos to Blue Diamond, one and all! We purchased a 1990's house after falling in love with a 300 yr old oak tree in the backyard -- nothing about the home worked for us until we hired Blue Diamond to do a $200k total remodel! We move the back of the house out 20' and replaced it with glass walls, built our dream bathroom, and everyone loves the kitchen! No room was untouched - only two of the original interior doors remained! The improvements inspired us to have Blue Diamond return to add a 1,500 square foot elevated deck a month after we moved in. We could not be happier with our home and the quality of the workmanship of the Blue Diamond team -- they are professional and highly skilled. *BANKRUPT* look it up filed June of 2023 long after COVID. Our project took 50% longer than we were assured. Roof leaked, 3 times same place. Water damage. Mold remediation. Wrong AC unit. Roof framed wrong and redone. Paint and texture took two different crews multiple attempts. Windows don't work. Flooring damage. I could go on. If you want to see their true nature just watch how they respond to this. They will either not respond which is similar to once they start your job. Or they will probably somehow try to attack us, say it's our fault, and blame us which they will also do to you. Long overdue but better late than never. I contacted BDR around September 2020 and they immediately responded, came to my house (COVID precautions) and did their measurements for my estimate. Within a couple of months we accepted their proposal and were finally able to start kitchen renovations in March 2021. They took on my outdated kitchen and upgraded us to exactly what we needed. The crew was awesome and the project manager was very informative and responsive. My only complaint is the messiness, but it is what's to be expected with a complete gut out removal. I am very happy with results and all my new cabinet space. They also came back for final walkthrough and installed my cabinet pulls and made small adjustments needed. We have worked with Blue Diamond for renovations on our master bathroom and kitchen/dining/living area. We have been impressed with their attention to detail and the end results. We have received so many compliments on our kitchen and the first floor layout (from home built in 80s, compartmentalized to open layout), and with our updated restroom that it's easy to write this review. Maxwell and Blue Diamond have lost my trust and they have probably stolen my money. We signed a contract on May 5th, 2022 with Blue Diamond Remodeling to build an addition onto my existing home. I've given them $22,000. The current date is August 10th, 2022 (13 weeks) and the only thing they have done is a rough design. No engineering, no blueprints, and no permits. Today (8/10/22) I received a text from my project manager informing me that he had been FIRED 6 days ago (8/4/22)!!!! They only thing I have received from Blue Diamond is an email from Maxwell asking to set up a meeting, which I responded to the same day and I haven't heard anything back. We didn't want to just update the kitchen, we wanted to find the best layout and innovations that would make the room work better for us. Blue Diamond did a fantastic job, paying attention to details and following through on the vision. Their cabinet maker, Guiseppe, did a fantastic job, making custom cabinets that fit our needs. We selected Blue Diamond Remodeling (BDR) from three competitive bids. BDR were excellent at doing the scope of work that we needed done. We had prepared a 13 page detailed scope of work document that listed everything that we wanted done as part of the Bid Package. BDR were responsible for demolition of the existing kitchen, internal walls, old electrical and old plumbing, flooring and kitchen ceiling. They installed 4 new beams where we opened up walls to make a more modern open architecture house inside. Their Structural/framing subcontractor was exceedingly great and experienced. Once the walls were opened up BDR installed a new sub-electrical power panel to power all of the appliances per City of Austin Codes. We moved the location of the sink some 10 feet so BDR's plumbing sub had to open up the slab and route the hot & cold water and drain lines under the slab to the new location. Their electrician also installed new LED ceiling lights in the expanded kitchen. BDR supplied and installed all new floor tiles, backsplash and also refinished our existing hardwood flooring. They also insulated the open exterior walls and blew in new attic insulation ( this 1965 house barely had any). Overall, BDR gave us an excellent project manager who was here on site nearly every day. I strongly and whole-heartedly recommend BDR, we had an excellent experience. We got our own cabinets and countertops ourselves, and our supplier caused multiple delays, not in BDR's scope of responsibility, but BDR still got their scope done regardless of my scope. The whole project was done under the City of Austin Inspections and permitting process. read more

Blue Diamond helped us with some interior work (new kitchen back splash, pendant lights and ceiling fans), convert our garage into a living room, office and mudroom and build a new utility room and carport. There were hiccups throughout, but ownership/management was responsive to feedback and resolved issues to ensure the finished project was in line with the contract and our standards. We are very happy with the end result. Pros: professional, timely communication, knowledgeable management, friendly staff/subcontractors, came in on budget. We hired Blue Diamond for a major interior remodel. Their project managers were extremely inattentive, frequently not supervising the work and not giving instructions to subs, and their workers and subs did poor quality work. When we were dissatisfied with the quality, instead of repairing the shoddy installations under warranty they offered us a discount in exchange for signing a settlement agreement which would relinquish our rights to posting negative reviews online. They appeared to have this agreement readily available as a form-letter as it was quickly sent to us when we started sending complaints. You may wish to consider that fact when looking at the total negative and positive reviews you can find on this company. read more

I saw a bad review of Blue Diamond Remodeling on Yelp so I thought I would throw in my own experience. Richard has helped me with a kitchen remodel, then a bathroom remodel, and new roof -- all three separate projects. I would not have re-used his services if he didn't do a great job. Three years later I still love my kitchen which had the most decision-making and work. Richard is an experienced contractor who has been in Austin for many years. I am sorry to read about the other bad experience on this. That is not the experience I had. He was always honest with how much he was going to charge for each step, and we did payments routinely as we had agreed in the contract. We did a total gut of an outdated kitchen and replaced it with brand new cabinetry (subcontractor Guiseppe was awesome), new sink and some plumbing updates, new absolute black granite counter and backsplash with white subway tiles. the cabinets had task lighting directly underneath. Thankfully he did bring in a designer to help with the decisions. We went to the granite yard together and looked around for used pieces so that we could keep prices down. the first tile guy did a terrible job of the first backsplash and richard saw to it that it was re-tiled when I complained. hugh relief and it looked great the second time. the bathroom -- all new tile in the shower/bath area, new tub, new chrome faucet and shower head. it looks great! no problems there. new roof- we walked around the neighborhood and looked at other roofs to get a feel for what kind we wanted. we looked at samples. he made recommendations. he brought his crew in and they replaced it. no problems there either. What an awful experience. We had high hopes of working with Blue Diamond Remodeling and Richard Rucker and were extremely disappointed. Richard was great until the contract was signed and permits were issued. Then everything went downhill. Keep good records throughout the project and document all conversations if you work with them. It helped us. Blue Diamond Remodeling does not appear to have trades "in house" as their website claims. As far as I could tell the folks working on our project were all affiliated with other companies. Blue Diamonds flooring sub(J & H Hardwood floors) and cabinet sub(Giuseppe Maccagnan) were good. Their other subs....no thanks. The repair bills keep piling up. Roof leaks, improperly installed skylights, incorrect wiring of outlets, the list goes on. In my last phone conversation with Richard Rucker he cussed me out and called my wife a name that no one deserves to be called. Unprofessional and Unacceptable. Roughly two weeks passed before we heard from anyone with Blue Diamond Remodeling again. During that time our neighbor put us in contact with Doug McAfee of the City of Austin and he helped us navigate the process/scheduling of needed inspections to be in compliance with the City of Austin. That was after we had to pay for unpaid re-inspection fees left by Blue Diamond Remodeling and their subs. During this time Blue Diamond Remodeling's electrical contractor started contacting us 5+ times per day threatening to place a lien on our home for non payment. He said he could not get in touched with Richard or anyone else from Blue Diamond Remodeling so had no option but to come after us. I reached out to Richard directly via phone several times regarding this and did not hear back. At that time I filed a complaint with the BBB on Blue Diamond Remodeling. Richard replied through the BBB and said we could take their electrician to mediation. Really? Thanks Richard. These were items I had already paid Blue Diamond Remodeling for so I was not sure why this was now our issue to resolve. After filing the complaint with the BBB Marianne Rucker responded as well. She stepped in and resolved the issue with their electrician(see ***Revision**** below) and credited us for the city fees paid. Unfortunately she did not reimburse us for the time spent cleaning up their issues. Time is money and working with the city and fielding calls from their electrician was very time consuming and draining. Marianne was the only "highlight" in our experience with Blue Diamond Remodeling. Marianne and her son Maxwell stepped in and finished the project for Richard. What a mess. We would not use Blue Diamond Remodeling or Richard Rucker again. We do not recommend them to friends and family. read more

I procrastinated for over 3 months before I signed a contract because I have hear too many horror stories of bad experience with contractors. My best friend has been involved in protracted legal battles in court with contractors due to water leaks from remodeling her kitchen. Besides, I didn't know anything about remodeling and I was so naturally very nervous about the possibility of the process going wrong. All my worries turned out to be unnecessary. First, Richard, with whom I signed the contract, has been extremely helpful. Since I didn't know much about remodeling, he was very patient in explaining what would be involved. Moreover, he offered to help me select the plumbing fixtures. This was extremely important to someone like myself. I would be completely lost as to what to purchase and which brand is a quality brand. Richard went with me to two different stores in one afternoon and helped me pick out all the plumbing fixtures, while also helping me with negotiating a good price with the vendors. He didn't have to do this at all (this was not part of the contract). I really appreciate his generosity in sharing his knowledge with me. Second, the contract with Blue Diamond included 2 hours with an interior designer, which turned out to be indispensable for my remodel. Other contractors did not offer this help at all. The feature of the contract makes the whole process easier. Third, the project manager, Rex, is an absolutely delightful person to work with, extremely professional, very responsive, always punctual, very knowledgeable about all aspects of remodeling, and always on top of things. He always responded right away if I sent him an inquiry. His is also very respectful of the fact that I may not be able to talk during work days, so he always sent a text message first to see if I could give him a call instead of just calling me. I really appreciate his patience and responsiveness throughout the whole remodeling process. I am recommending this company to all my friends. The hardest part about signing a contract for remodeling is the ex ante uncertainty - after signing the contract, will the contractor perform a good job? Will they be punctual? Will they procrastinate? Will they respond should an issue arise? Will they clean up after each work day? These, and many other such questions, gave me cold feet for three months. With Blue Diamond remodeling, the answers to all the above questions are yes. One last thing: I have always been a free ride on other people's reviews. But with my remodeling job, I feel compelled to write a responsible review, for homeowners like myself, who are looking to remodel but are concerned about various potential negative outcomes. I feel compelled also because Richard, Rex and their staff did such an outstanding job. They deserve absolutely the highest rating. read more

Blue Diamond did a great job of updating our master suite. The bathroom was gutted and completely redone and the bedroom was updated. There were several things I really liked about working with them. They listened to me and got everything I said. I felt totally in control of the project. They also consistently arrived when they said they would. I've never experienced that with other contracted workers. Giuseppe is extremely talented and did fabulous cabinet work. He also worked with me to custom design a door. I had worked with Richard a few years ago regarding a kitchen remodel but chose another contractor. This year I wanted to screen in my back patio and selected Richard to do the project. Evidently Richard is phasing out because I saw him twice during the whole painful project. Cody and then Maxwell were the on-going project managers. Starting with the concrete crew (first week they went to the wrong job, second week their truck broke down, then I am not sure what happened), through installing gutters that leaked (they replaced at my request), etc., this project did not go well. Instead of moving the data line attached to the house, the crew cut it. Since I work from home, this was an unpleasant surprise. A crew of workers would show up at the house maybe once a week for a few hours. A project that was estimated to be completed in mid-July was finally signed off on in the middle of October. If it had been finished in mid-July, the unseasonable rain would not have been a problem, but when that started, it added to the delays. I could list some other details, but anyone reading this can get the general idea. read more

We do not recommend using this company for your remodel. There were red flags before we signed on but we hired them anyway - our mistake. This is our two cents: It took them three times as long as promised to finish. The contract was unclear and favored them over the client. *If you hire them, get EVERY WORD written down in that contract and sign nothing until it says exactly what you mean, with timelines and exact costs* The Project manager Court was not capable of handling his work. We had to manage him to get this project done and he complained every step along the way about his boss. The owner Richard told us he was an architect and he is not an architect. His son and his son's roommate do a lot of the work themselves...to save money on their end? One saving grace is their sub-contractor Aubrey did detail-oriented work. Overall, it was a headache and other contractors we have hired were easier and more fair to work with. read more
